  1. I actually really like that idea! The issue is probably technical though - back when citadels were released, the reason given in the FAQ why they were not partly F2P was that Jagex said they could only make it fully F2p or fully P2P, everything else wouldn't be possible for them. This idea sounds like a bigger engine rewrite, and engine writers' time is always precious. But if it's possible to do, I think it could be a great addition. I hate trolling and intentionally being rude, but this is one of the worst Ideas I have ever heard. If we remember when Mark Gerhard first became the CEO, one of his first posts was regarding his plans and treatment for the F2P "version" of the game. He didn't beat around the bush- he clearly stated that he was going to remove the P2P advertisements from the F2P game. This announcement was probably my happiest RuneScape playing moment. Jagex was ackowledgeing that F2P was its own game, and Gerhard stated that too. (Do not comment and say I'm a tax on them and don't pay my way. Charts have shown Jagex's revenue from ads being in the millions of USD. In addition, I usually have a P2P account) By going against this, or rather, their inconsistency, they are continually pushing me to other MMOs and certainly other people to the same ends (or Console games ofc). I suppose I would be fine with this update if Jagex posts an update on the front page taking back their statement and promising to consistently advertise P2P in F2P. As I've said, I want consistency. I'll even add membership back to my classic account (which I play on maybe 5hours a month) to show my support for the company. P.S. I think the F2P areas will be far more crowded than we are crediting, especially if they remove an additional 50 servers (which is a guarantee with this style of update). First of all, they're not inconsistent. They did say their stance has changed - they still think F2P is a game of it's own, but they no longer believe in having absolutely no marketing there. They have decided that they need marketing stuff in order for this game to survive. Now, how exactly a merging of F2P/P2P worlds will look like is a design question, but as long as it doesn't harm F2P in it's gameplay, I don't see the problem with it. When I was F2P, I still saw all the pickpocket options etc. - and while they were bothering me at times, they never really made my gameplay worse.
  2. Do you "power" to 99? Definitely not. My first (and currently only) 99 I got for an event for the celebration of 100 weeks of Penguins. I had about 1 and a half months I think to train thieving and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I'll probably go back to some more Pyramid plunder...but I'd want to get 75 rc for the sceptre of the gods :/ Since then, only once have I thought about getting a 99, in this case magic. Again for an event, Runefest :P. I stopped at 96 because what I really wanted(spellbook swap) I did have, and I was bored with training. I normally don't train my skills very much, just occasionally for a quest or if I feel like it. Most often I'll just be doing quests when I have one to do, or help with penguins :D Do you vary your gameplay? If it comes to training skills, then yes. I can't keep training one skill, it's not possible for me.
  3. If you're an immensily rich guy, be careful when selling shards back to the pet shop - apparently the money pouch does not check if the money you would get is over the max integer value and anything above is lost. As for the update itself - it's pretty neat. Really useful in some places, and most of the issues that have popped up can be fixed easily. I'm just afraid to put all my money in the pouch...I know it's not lost on death and I tested it...but I'll definitely wait a bit to make sure there's no bug. Also I hate the loyalty programme. I can't stand having so many things that I can't buy. And honestly, I think a lot of stuff is overpriced. Any of the skiller areas - Tier 3, you pay 69k points for a 7% bonus that's not even permanent? Seriously?
  4. I just finished "Dawn of the Gods"(roughly translated title, read it in German :P) by Tanja Kinkel. A thriller about genetic engineering and how unsupervised research might be done with as few remose as and lead to similar devastating results as e.g. the surficial atomic bomb tests in the 50s.
  5. Same here...I used to use guides when I first decided I eventually wanted to have all quests done(There were still over 100 left at that point). Eventually, I left out the walkthroughs and just looked up the required items, because it was often so frustrating to run back to a bank just to get a spade etc. But then I found those items often gave me too big hints about how some puzzle had to be solved and eventually I didn't use any guides anymore. Don't regret it - Especially after EWIII and MEPII, having those puzzles solved for myself felt great :) I can say I'm very disappointed Jagex got rid of the questhelp system - Imo it was the perfect system for a quest guide without spoiling much of the quest. If you were really stuck, you could use it and would know what to do...but you couldn't use it to get through the entire quest, and there would be nothing that would be accidentally spoiled to you. Shame they didn't go on with that, but I guess it wasn't used enough. I wonder how the quest guides on JagexWiki look like....*shudder*

  7. The problem is not that F2P is suddenly bad. The essential problem is that it just has a lot more concurrence now. Just as an example, League of Legends got quite big. If Jagex wants to compete in the long run, they'll have to offer more stuff to attract new players. I can understand the sentiment, since there have been several articles on this recently. Also, as I've said - this is my opinion. This is what I believe, but alas, I don't have access to the statistics Jagex would have. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. But I feel like Runescape is becoming increasingly unknown in those ages where they would probably get most of their members(So somewhere later in school). Two years ago or so, it would still get mentioned here and there(Though quietly of course, no one wants to have that overheard :P). Now, I can't remember having it heard in the last 6 months. My essential point is that F2P is not the represantative of the P2P game that it should be. I'm not asking for content to keep long-term f2pers playing. I merely think that making the game more engaging and interesting for new players would be smart. And not only stuff that is fun it itself - I still think most new players probably enjoy their first weeks a lot. I'm more talking about stuff that you could show off in an advertisement. Something that gets people playing. Like having a low-level boss that someone can show his friend and say: "You can access that boss in just 5 hours, isn't that awesome" or whatever instead of "yeah, this game is basically just clicking but you'll enjoy it". Do you know what I mean? One thing that I would have done for example, is making "A piercing note" f2p. Now THAT would be a piece of content to show off. And you can still keep the members activity and say "hey, if you subscribe you can train your prayer faster" for all that I care.
  8. That's fine for you...but there are too many people out there who do that and then complain how bad the quest was or that they're stuck somewhere. Skipping dialogues is fast enough atm, no need to make it faster.
  9. 99.97% of bots being f2p is definitely a lie, or an intentionally misleading figure. Just think about...let's calculate 100k member bots, that would mean over 333 milion bot accounts in general. Ridiculous...
  10. Well, he used to have some good videos in his reviews and his jokes were low, but at least not stale yet. But now, it's just...meh.
  11. Huh? There was music in the abbey. It was just more of a background track compared to a song. When the second murder occurs, that music takes a turn in another direction. I'm surprised you didn't notice it. I don't know, I noticed several gaps in the music...maybe my music was too quiet, but I heard the choral singing and the troubadour stuff just right :/ Would be sound settings. Choir and troubadour was on ambient sounds, in between is filled by music. This area jsut has a slightly unique mechanic in that the ambient sounds mute/quieted the music when you go near them. (So you didn't get like u do in say karmja where jungle noises play over the music) I've checked again...I can't hear any of the regular music in the abbey. I have to manually click it and even then it takes several tries it will only play once and then stop again. Guess I'll submit a bug report.
  12. It's not faster than repeatedly clicking "Click to continue"...and a good thing it is. Quests live through their storyline, I'm happy Jagex doesn't give an option to skip through all the dialogue. A lot of the people that I know who don't like quests never even tried to read the dialogue. I will be using the spacebar though, it will avoid some annoying misclicks :)
  13. True, and the two classes can overlap a lot. But the way history is taught in my area at least stresses the MEMORIZE THE EXACT DATE THIS HAPPENNED AND THIS TOO AND THIS part far more than the examination and looking for bias parts of history. Which is totally backwards in my opinion. Since knowing the exact date of an occurance makes you look smart and does nothing else. Knowing why it happened and how and how it could again is how you avoid tragedy. I have to disagree with the dates. Knowing the year, you can understand what the event/person's world was like. With that you can understand some parts of the event. But you're still right though, generally understanding the event itself is the most important part. But yeah, history is taught with too much memorization of facts and not enough actual critical thinking. Sorta like my English class, where the teacher did most of the critical thinking... (all in high school, of course) This. Had history class today, will be writing a test soon. Our teacher literally told us to "learn all that useless stuff". It's only memorization and not a bit of thinking yourself. Makes me mad, history can be such an interesting subject, especially if you compare it to modern times or analyse the consequences of history for modern times. But no... I know that feeling...but it either means that your teacher or the author has done something wrong. If symbolism by a good author is analysed, it makes sense and it really helps you understand what the author wanted to express.
  14. Probably has been posted before too, but I just love her :P Though I find her better in movies than on the photos...
  15. I'm also looking forward to the Hunger Games movie, but i can't say i agree with the actors they've chosen. [spoiler=Spoiler]Of the actors that tried out to play Katniss, i would have either liked Hailee Steinfeld or Lindsy Fonseca. And that's not because i've ever heard of them before, but just by looking at their picture they are closer to the mental image i had of Katniss. Hey maybe Jennifer Lawrence won't do that badly, but from the trailer she didn't struck me as a Katniss. The trailer i saw first was linked on tip.it (can't find the thread nor the trailer i saw at first) but that's the one i really didn't like. The trailer with them going through the woods, saying stuff about the Capitol also didn't impress me much. I don't know exactly why, it's just wasn't the way i had pictures them. Neither Prim, Katniss, Peeta or others i've seen in the trailer struck me as even up to the characters in the book. They just hit me as wanna-be-cool pretty-boys, meh. Maybe it's just me. Well, actors never have bothered me that much, but I've already seen a few things that I didn't like in the trailer...so I kind of think that the movie won't really do the books honor. [spoiler=Spoiler] First thing I immediately noticed - why does Katniss have make up on even in district 12 and in the arena? What's the preparation before she goes to the arena if she already has make up an everything? It just doesn't make thing believable - they're dirt poor, and in the arena she hardly has time to check herself in a mirror either. If it's more important to make her look pretty than to portray the situation well, I kind of doubt that the rest of the film will do that job that good. The arena was also a bit strange - the starting circle was really small. What would stop the tributes from district 1 and 2 from setting after the others immediately and killing half of them already? I already am a bit concernced of how they'll deal with the brutal scenes. I assume the movies will be for ages 12 and above...so there might be some issues with including more brutal scenes. Not that they have to be in such a movie...but often cutting such stuff out is done badly and just feels wrong. And I hope there won't be "Team Peeta" and "Team Gale" being created

  18. Loved the quest - but I think there are still some design issues that the audio team has to overcome. First of all, player names in voice acting. Having the account name is obviously not possible...but I felt being called adventurer the whole time was a real stretch. It didn't seem to be very realistic. Maybe a system such as the vyrelord names or fremmenik names could work - you can choose between a limited amount of names, all of which could be voice acted. Idk, but I feel something would have to be done there. Next question is voicing the characters themselves....though it didn't bother me that much that my character wasn't voiced. Not sure if there's a better solution available. One thing I really think they have to rework are the area triggers for the audio, and having places where there is no music. This was one of the biggest problems I had with ritual of the mahjarrat, and to an extent with this quest too, the complete lack of music in certain areas. Troubador camp, the choir - very good tracks. And in between, there's nothing. Really makes you feel that there's something missing.
  19. Have we found another source for petroleum based plastics and other goods? We could probably live without oil as a fuel in a few years, but I'm not sure we could live without plastics. There are biobased alternatives for most kinds of plastics.(All the commonly used ones, PET, PE, PA etc.) They cannot replace all of the heavily specialed plastics, but they don't need to, since the volume of production of those plastics is so small that there will be enough oil available for centuries to come basically. There are already biobased plastics being sold, they're just still a bit more expensive, and there's the same problem associated as with bio-fuel, the destruction of food-producing farmland in favor of farmland producing raw materials for plastics, fuels etc.
  20. I've been meaning to learn French, along with German for a long time now. My spanish used to be pretty great, I need to get back into it. And English is hard because it doesn't necessarily follow grammatical rules that it infers it follows. My spanish teacher in high school had a story of how when she was in a class in Puerto Rico learning English, they were teaching the vowel sounds. The instructor actually made a mistake I guess, and stated a "ee" word made an "i" sound. So when she came to America I guess she pronounced everything like that. Then she saw a sale at Linens and Things, for bed sheets. So she went, and but she couldn't find any, so she went to the counter and asked where they kept the shits. She said I know you have red shits, yellow shits, and the shits with the high thread count..... Where are the shits? She was asked to leave the store. English might have a lot more exceptions than other languages, but it also has simpler rules in general. I've learnt(well, tried to learn :P) both english and french and I've found english to be MUCH easier. In french, I constantly had to think about which order I had to put the words in that context etc. - in English, you used the few basic rules that you know and it would be mostly correct. Everything incorrect you would learn through trial&error and by getting a feel for the language, which proved to be impossible for me in french.
  21. A common misconception - Most popular F2P game has nothing to do with the golden Joystick. It's a guinness world record, and only dependant on the number of free accounts(not sure if registered or active, too lazy to check)
  22. Now now, we don't need to throw that stale argument around. :shame: F2Pers have a say in the game too, even if they don't pay. And while the article may not feel like feedback to some of us, it hopefully will give some insight on what some of the community is feeling right now. In the end we're all players of the game. Ya know, Id like to think that I am probably far more liberal than the average poster on these forums, although one never knows, but I am becoming literally sick and tired of listening to the welfare cases [bleep], beef and moan about the quality of the free hand outs that they are given -- time and again. Theyve been given a free game to play. It costs them nothing. They put nothing into it financially. They play it "irregularly" or "only occasionally" or they make up various reasons to otherwise not pay for it or claim that its more challenging to play a limited free game than it is to play an unlimited full game. Yeah yeah. Whatever their reason, they feel entitled to [bleep] about the game despite the fact that theyve contributed nothing to it financially. What they don't see is that theyve been leeching off the good intentions of the manufacturers for some 10 years now, and yet still cannot find it within themselves to pony up sufficient funds to pay for the service being provided to them. No instead theyd rather sit pretty and let things be given to them because theyve sat there, forever, making demands like spoiled children, expecting the world to doll out another hand out to them because screaming for one has always worked for them in the past -- and it should continue to work for them now. Frankly, I cannot understand why, ten years later, the free game even exists any more. It was originally offered through Newgrounds and other similar gaming sites as a means of getting attention for the game. Now that the game has been established, there is, IMO, no need for the free game whatsoever. Its time that people realized that this isnt "Andrew Gowers Runescape" anymore. Its no longer his labour of love. Its no longer his free game. Its a BUSINESS with employees and it is run by businessmen who have shareholders to answer to, and peoples jobs to pay for. The people playing the free game arent paying anyones salary. Theyre not adding to the coffers of the shareholders. What makes any of them think theyre more deserving of anything they've already received? What makes them think theyre so entitled? Its fine for them to free-load off the labours of others, I suppose but be fricken grateful for what they're being given. /rant I don't think F2Pers are entitled for anything. They can have their say, of course and personally, I am disappointed when they get messed with by Jagex, but I do agree that they don't deserve anything per se. That said, I still think that F2P is far more important to Runescape than one might think, and that the current updates are detrimental to the whole game. Simply because I don't think that Runescape is a game that can quickly charm people into paying membership. It's a game that has hidden values, but on the outside it looks bleak. I, personally, don't think Runescape would be able to survive very long without f2p.
  23. Tbh, that's something I find incredibly stupid. Sure there are more derogatory words for women or black people, but what does it matter? It's something that is in indicator for history and society, but it's in no way the problem itself. Should we think of swearwords for men just so have the same amount of swearwords for both genders? The same thing for mankind - it's not derogatory to women today, only if you let it be. It's something that is that way because of history, so what does it matter today?
  24. Yeah, the picture is too big, that's why I - mostly - agree with the article about F2P, it's something I've always believed in - but I'm not sure if it's also really true. Keep in mind that Jagex has access to a lot more statistics than we do - there might be a reason for them doing this. Also, the argument about the 99.97% bots in f2p was a bit skewed, as the main factor of the price rise for sharks after the bot update is how the ratio of players:bots fishing sharks is, not how many bots there are in f2p. The number is still a lie(Just imagine it - with only 100k member bots, that would mean 333 million f2p bots), but the argument wasn't that sound. Article about firemaking - I agree that firemaking would need a revamp that goes beyond just a new skilling method. The question however is how easy it is to do that with the whole skill already being in-game. The article about the favourite updates was an interesting read :)
  25. What I find interesting is the fact that those who are upset about the demodding in a way actually support Jagex's argument for doing it. As several Jmods said, every Fmod is allowed to voice his opinion. Their guidelines only state that if it's extremely negative, they should post it on an alternate account. The fact that people are upset so much over fmods not being able to post negative criticism on their fmod account only shows that fmods are not perceived as absolutely regular players. They do represent Jagex, and (what I find more important) they also represent other Fmods. Now, the Jiblix affaire can be called controversial as he got demodded over a youtube video, and we don't know if that was made clear in the guidelines(Or at least, I don't know) The demodding of Ken genosis though, I don't see the issue. He was(or should have been) fully aware of the consequences, his thread was very negative and not really constructive.
