Magic Accuracy Nerf
There definitely are problems with mage, probably a bug and not a nerf. Ancients seem to be unaffected, but especially slayer dart and partway also elemental spells hit less and less accurate. There are too many people around experiencing this for it just to be bad luck.

The large number of bots suggests two things. 1. Many people are interested in what the bots can bring - in this case, levels. Which = prestige = e-peen for 13 yr olds = make botters feel good. 2 Secondary market of gold is strong enough for many to invest in it. See above. A question to consider: What exactly is it about bots that frustrate you? The fact that they're getting stuff for free? The fact that they're leveling faster and thus, "better" than you? It's not fair that you had to "work" hard while the bots don't have to "work?" What you could do is maybe perpetuate a mindset, like the author has suggested, but it's awfully hard to do in a game designed for screaming idiots who go I PK U!!!!!!!!!!111111!!!!!. You could perhaps live in the satisfaction that you may have, I dunno, swayed five people, four of which who will quit or bot behind their mighty, steely mask's back? :P Or you could outcompete them. A bot is running, fundamentally, off of reflections. This means that it should still be slower than a person, no matter how agile it may be. Possibly ignore them. The question then becomes if you're willing to give up efficiency or not, isn't it? Until Jagex does something, you've really exhausted all your options. We can maybe give you a hug or something, but that's about it. [/hide] Many people are interested in what bots can bring because they are lazy and Jagex cannot or will not do anything about them. They cannot be "outcompeted" because their numbers are too vast, and even the places that used to be the domains of high-level players, like GWD and TD's, are now becoming botted. A bot doesn't care if it makes one kill in 20 minutes -- but a human does. It's a waste of time when the game becomes unplayable because the bots are so thick that you cannot see the targets or drops anymore. What do you suggest we do? Build a fire and sing "Kumbaya" until Jagex does something about it? It's not just a question of efficiency anymore, either -- it's a question of playability. Frankly -- I think the best idea I have seen, so far, for addressing with the botting problem, would be if a large group of people went to Runefest 2011, all dressed the same, and they all scurried around the place in a tight group occupying every spot for a few seconds. I think it would be precisely the kind of embarrassment that Jagex needs to wake up and realize just how bad this problem has become, and to get off their collectively backsides and DO something about it ... <_< I honestly doubt that would do much. First of all you'd have to find a group of people willing to do it - Before all, people going to Runefest want to have a good time and their foremost goal is not to combat for solutions to the games problem. Then the action would actually have to bother Jagex - if it annoys people at Runefest, they'll probably stop it, and if it doesn't they may address it with a few sentences but I doubt it will do more than that. I'm going to Runefest myself and while I do plan to have a talk about bots, I don't really want to devote my time on it. By now, I'm just sick and tired of bots, to the point of where I cba to make threads about them or anything like that. Idk, for me Jagex in the recent months has lost a lot of the magic spark they had to me. I'm continuing to play the game because I have my niche that I like(penguin hunting) where I'm also not bothered by bots. But I'm aware that I'm not exactly the typical RS player, and tbh for a lot of people I'm wondering why they're still playing. ....and I have no idea what that last part even has to do anything lol. Just me babbling again I guess.

lol I'm running 12GB DDR3 & two 6 core processors (12 Cores total). Time to update? Unless you want to pay the newest games on highest graphics, not worth it. I have a dualcore and 2 GB Ram, and my PC still runs any program I tried to my complete satisfaction(games like crysis too...)

However, you can basically assume that the large majority of the bots which additionally came into Runescape after the Free Trade update are RWT bots - the numbers increased a lot, so yes it looks like RWT bots are the majority. Mains botting may be annoying for you, but they're not the main problem.

14-Sept-2011 Ritual of the Mahjarrat
Tbh...It was a good quest, but overall I was disappointed. There were several times when I thought how ridiculous that certain part is, and overall I just couldn't really immerse with the storyline as in other quests. Best quest this year was BoD for me, hands down.

Tip.It Times - 11th September 2011
The reason I have not yet quit runescape is basically that I still enjoy my niche of the game. I'm a rank in the w60 peng chats, a lot of my friends in there, and it's almost always a very friendly environment. I also do some question and yes occasionally I'm training a bit too, but all of that is nothing that could keep me here. I usually don't care much about levels which means that I won't put up with much grinding unless there's a specific reasons. That leaves me to playing minigames I enjoy(but which grow old quite soon too) and quests(which are awesome but it's simply not possible to make so many it would be anywhere near keeping me playing) I'm not around that long yet so I can't really call myself a longterm player, but I think I can understand racheya pretty well. The magic just seems to be gone. Regarding the second article...I was kind of missing a point to it. Everyone is training herblore(which is kinda sad tbh - nothing against bonus xp, but when everyone is just stocking up to train the skill on the next weekend, something is awry imo), and what about it? Both extremes and the new prayer potions are nice updates I guess although I like extremes more by far.

Easier Report System (Credit to dire1)
The problem is not that players aren't reporting enough, the problem is that Jagex can't cope with the bot reports. i Zaros organized big bot hunting events. He kept track of all bots reported, and after 11k reports, 500 were resetted/banned.(His topic got locked after posting this) As annoying as the 60 second rule may be, it serves a purpose. I've heard there are already bots out there who randomly report a player from time to time, just to clog up the system. I don't know if this is true, but it would make sense I guess.

Anti-bot idea that could actually work
....Or you could just use captchas. Jagex did use captchas one, but they were at an early stage and not randomly generated. If captchas were so easily solvable, multimillion dollar companies as e.g. amazon wouldn't use them. The only problem you'd have are colorblind/seeing impaired players. "coming up with new questions" seems easy at the start, but it won't be easy for long. Bots can easily be programmed to solve "I like ____, What do I like?" questions all at once. So every new question would actually have to be unique and not use the same system as before. It would keep up for a few weeks at most, then it would be useless again.

Jagex Seizes RWT Domain -- 9/02/11
My thoughts exactly. Jagex can take down YouTube videos for copyright claims, but can't get people selling their property for profit? O_O First I'd like to say, they already have the back up domain ready. They have had their customers aware of this dispute between them and Jagex for ages. Not only that, but Jagex has not yet won the case. Their customers know that as soon, if at all, Jagex takes control of the domain, which domain the company will change to. It will not halt that company for more then 10 minutes. Secondly, the company isn't selling property that isn't theirs. They're selling their time and their resources that it took to collect the gold and items. You're technically hiring them and their resources to play RuneScape. Hell, until eBay didn't want it, people could say, "Selling funny joke - Free RuneScape account included!" Loophole. This won't phase G4RS at all. Well, I'm no lawyer, but I don't see your point. If you were hiring them to train your account or for a bot, you could say that...but account and all of its items are property to Jagex, no matter how much time you put into that. You're selling the account or the gold, you're selling Jagex's property. And that's it. I still don't see why Jagex bothers to sue for copyright infringement regarding the domain name - it's worse than useless. They have a bad chance of winning, in any case it will cost them money for lawyers etc., and the RWTers can just switch to another domain which increases their reputation as they can claim "Jagex can't touch us" basically.

The Q Word
I have taken a break for a few months because of rl calling, but I don't really see myself quitting anytime soon. I don't like Jagex's new approach to marketing, but it doesn't really affect me, even if they should introduce microtransactions. I don't give a damn about levels or money, so if other players spend their irl worth to get more pixels, they can do it. I'm happy with doing quests and helping out in Team penguin, maybe playing a minigame from time to time. It's my niche and as I don't see Jagex ruining it anytime soon, I don't see myself quitting.

Regarding NR, they confirmed multiple times that the Mahjarrat series and Nomad would not cross. Either they scrapped nomad completely or maybe his master is indeed not lucien.

31-Aug-2011 The Branches of Darkmeyer
Jagex is having a hard enough time sueing bot producers who clearly violate their terms&conditions. Trying to sue for writing a guide is an instant-lose, if any lawyer takes it then only to make money, he would never for 1 second believe he'll win. Images of the game could be copyrighted I think, but most of the pictures on here would be covered by "fair use". I wouldn't put it past the current Jagex management to try something like that - but not exactly this, they know they're going to lose. Greedy they may be, but not stupid.

The writer or this article is correct though. Nobody(or at least, not the majority) complain about there being a refer-a-friend system. The problem is that people can refer a noob account and just pay membership for it for one month - bam! 10% xp bonus. Also, of course a company is out to make money, and that's ok, that's good. The thing is that you have to walk a line between marketing and some responsibility towards your loyal customers. And if a certain marketing method is hugely unliked by your loyal customers(becaues it goes against one of the core principles this game once had), I think it's something that should be worked on and not just ignored. Jagex seemed to do pretty well the last 10 years without stunts like this. Why can't they do some other marketing method which isn't a microtransactionß

Tip.It Times - 21st August 2011
with all due respect, the second author did not really read the information too closely - the situation is actually worse. For one: "After all, itd be very easy to just make accounts from a different IP address each week to get your 10% XP boost (if Jagex are even monitoring IP addresses, that is)." Not only do Jagex not monitor IP adresses, they don't even try to discourage people referring themselves. It's actually even neatly described in the FAQ on how to do that. They are aware of it and don't care or even want it that way(as only few legit new players would sign up within two weeks) Also "People also go on about how lucky we are that there are no micro-transactions in RS, which is true." We DO have microtranscations in the game now. They don't have to be used that way, and they're limited but it's still microtransactions. People pay Money to Jagex for bonus xp - that's a micrtransaction, no talking around it.

Andrew sells Jagex.
I would have thought he would at least have tried to get someone competent and with love for the game to follow in his heels, not some investor who only cares about his short-term profit.

Refer a Friend Programme - 18 Aug 2011
tv commercials cost money. [bleep]ing up one of the core principles of your game doesn't.

Refer a Friend Programme - 18 Aug 2011
For a long time in Runescape, you couldn't buy bonus xp with money. They're changing that step by step and this was a big one. Now, I won't quit about this because I play this game for penguins and quests, not for competing on the highscores, but I still find it highly disappointing. There was a time when Jagex really honored its name "Just about the Game experience". Nowadays it doesn't anymore. Yes, every other game company does that too - but that's what was refreshing about Jagex, what made them good and likeable.

Refer a Friend Programme - 18 Aug 2011
Either way, have you any inkling of who the line-up of prospective buyers might be? Off-hand? No. I'm not close enough to the ground to know, for sure, who would be looking to this kind of purchase. There's a fair number of game manufacturers -- not to mention media empires -- who are all chomping at the bit to own a "highly successful" MMORPG. That said, I've been lobbing this theory out there since Jagex rigged set up the vote to return the Wildy and Free Trade into the game. All these little nudges and winks speak to me of an impending sale -- or at least a desire to sell -- of the Runescape franchise. That is amazingly possible, and makes more sense the more I read it. That will be interesting. [/hide] Extremely interesting, in fact. I don't really see them selling Runescape tbh. Investors fully bought Jagex just 6 months ago and right now, it's generating them a nice profit, so why sell it now? My theory is milking the cash out of it while it lasts and selling the rest when it's gone downhill.
