... Either the dice hate you, Mather, or Karma does. Draugen: As you approach the child, sword held high, a searing pain manifests under your arm. A young, armored soldier, eyes fearful but determined, has imbedded his spear into your armpit. As he draws the weapon back out you drop your sword and blood gushes forth from the wound. The child runs away, and you see several more men running towards you. Jen: It's dark, and you seem to be relatively lost. However, you spot a fire in the distance and begin walking toward it, as it is likely your campsite. You hold your chain at the ready, in case further danger should approach. Earthsage: You send a message, a rustling of the leaves and bending of the branches in the grove, but the knight seems not to understand the language of flora. However, he calls "Fiend, he who engulfed my land and slaughtered my people, face me! I swear by the graves of the lost, you shall burn as my sadness and rage burns me!" He shoulders his claymore, and grabs one of several clay pots hanging from his belt.

Quick question, would you rather have Dungeoneering style skill progression or just a sort of unmentioned proficiency increase? And Retech, the scorpion is about as big as your upper torso, its head ends around shoulder level and the base of the tail is near the bottom of your spine. It's not very heavy, so it doesn't really encumber you. And now I must go for a little while.

Uh-oh... Erm, Retech? You made a character for their weapon? Retech: As you run off into the darkness, you hear a mad chittering ahead. Following it, you suddenly trip over a chain and faceplant next to an agitated scorpion. The scorpion chitters in a "tsk-tsk" fashion and lightly pinches your shoulder before once more climbing onto your back. Earthsage: You feel the heat on the grove's distant vegetation dim, and arrive at the edge of the grove. On the dark stone bordering the grove stands a humanoid figure clad in shining plate armour and wielding a claymore. He seems to understand that the terrain of the grove would only hinder him, and waits as a grim challenge just outside your reach. Do you show yourself and enter combat? Draugen: Your wrath is palpable as you challenge the light of the sun and the steel of the living. Entering the village, the children playing at the border flee, save for one young boy who had been sitting away from the others. He lifts his head, his eyes tearful and questioning. "Father?"

Kewl. A good editor would probably be called for, I could help with that! I've been wanting to write a book as well, unfortunately I'm just too lazy and my mind often shuts itself down mid-thought.

Thankfully, I put this in a word document before trying to publish it last night when the forum shut down. All was not lost! Earthsage: As you pull yourself towards the intruder, following the wooden beatles, you feel a fire start in another part of the grove. The beatles seem confused, they don't know whether to go after the intruder or the fire. Choose what problem you will see to, and if the beatles will help you or try to solve the other threat. Tekrer: You reach for your crossbow, but one thief whips his knife at you and it slices into your hand. You instead charge, cutting one of the thieves' shins to the bone and giving him a limp. The other is winded by your punch, but manages to nick your cheek with his knife. Your loud singing seems to disgruntle them, and they look to be close to fleeing. Ieyfura: You latch on to the lizard and drag it into the sky, then notice that it's still clinging to the Drow. The combined weight causes you to drop both lizard and Drow. As they plummet, the Drow twists about so that she lands on top of the lizard. There is a loud crack as it's spine snaps and it goes limp. You land on your feet a short ways away, unharmed. Stork: As you near the river, tendrils lash out of the darkness. Four of your crabs quickly scuttle away, and two hide themselves in their shells. The one you're riding jumps back from the flailing limbs, and you pitch forward off of it's back. Your cat hisses as a vaguely humanoid figure steps out from the shadows. Iapetos: You stretch regally, your chain sword lifting off of the ground as your arm is raised. You grab it in your hand, and stride to the cliff where, far below and far away you can barely see the glow of a campfire. -------------------------- Never mind, it didn't break, you just lost hold of it. You rolled a one twice in a row, for both aim and weapon technique. On a d100. I'm going to start using a normal d20 instead, but you have to admit that you couldn't have expected a good result. I was generally going to make you a badass adventurer, Retech, to make up for the slightly average start. I'd make the penalties against you less severe when you failed too badly, and you would be more versatile than the non-humans. I'm sorry for your bad luck, you'll be able to find the chain a bit later (not that the chains are even that rare, just extremely difficult for non-Drow to use).

You might think so, Stork. You'd be wrong. You can't see in the dark, though your crabs can, so you generally have to light your little herd like a beacon to get around. And I wouldn't let this game get boring, there are always a few twists to throw in. And Iey, something about that post made me giggle hysterically.

I'm thinking of it more as a kind of fang-shaped hook at the end of the chain. Anyways, moving on. Ieyfura: You see a Drow warrior engaged in combat with a rather weak-looking lizard. The Drow's chain weapon is broken and the lizard is clamped onto them, trying to get at their neck. Tekrer: As your seemingly futile search for mercenary contracts takes you into the main city, you are ambushed in a dark street by two humanoid figures. They each hold a dagger, and yell for you to give them your money (you've got two silver pieces, a fair amount). Earthsage: You twist your limbs about, but can't seem to mimic the shape of the cold, rigid metal with your vinelike limbs. Suddenly, all the wooden beetles fly off to the north of the grove! You can sense it through the roots that pervade the grove, a human has entered! Stork: The crab shuffles happily, and leads the six others at a fair pace along the dark landscape. You have plenty of food in your bags, and in the distance you see a small village next to a creek. The village shines brightly with the light of the sun spilling through a crack to the Upperworld far above. Draugen: You slowly drift out of the void that has engulfed your mind for what seemed like eternity. You were never buried, and still carry the sword they buried you with. Them... those of the nearby village, you despise them so. They cast you away as soon as you were of no use to them, dead from a fierce battle against invaders. You stand, and walk towards the horrible, infernal light that pours onto the living souls running about your old village. Retech (are you a boy or a girl ingame?): As you whip out your chain, it is snapped by the weight of the large scorpion on the other end. The scorpion's angry chitters fade into the distance as it is thrown out of sight, and the lizard takes this opportunity to lunge at you with claws bared. You hear the distant flapping of wings.

It'll be a bit before I reply, dinner's almost ready. Sorry, I'll try to keep a god pace afterwards. :) Retech, not that I'm going to go against any use of that chain, but you know how you'd have to swing it in combat normally, right? Figure-eights, circles, wraps, rebounds, and slams (none of these are actual terms for fighting with one, of course, just practical concepts)?
  22. The Wall is mobbed by goblins, gets venom spit in it's mouth by a snake, blows up after poking a treasure chest with a stick, blows up even more when a dungeon explodes with him inside, and then falls down a chute, painfully crashes through a rusted metal grate, and lands in magma. You are dead, choose 5.0 points of experience to lose. 17 HP.
  23. You get suffocated by old gymsocks. *inserts orange juice*
  24. I consider you as more of a cousin of sorts than the sort of person I'm friends with. I don't mind you, and I can't help but like you to some degree because you're generally fun to be around, but you're annoying sometimes and could easily start an argument. Honestly, I'm glad you're here, and wouldn't wish you away regardless of your actions.

Mather: You're blinded and subsequently incinerated by your unparalleled, Norwegian awesomeness. Please make a new character. Earthsage: You are strong, having been able to snap the metal tools and weak bones of the humans who once tried to destroy your precious home. The other tenders of the garden are small beetles with wooden carapaces, flitting about in small groups and removing pests from the grove. Stork: You awake with a snort, finding your pet cat resting on your chest. You shove it off, and sit up on the back of the giant crab carrying you and your supplies. You rub your eyes and yawn, then set about unpacking something for breakfast. Ieyfura: You leap majestically off of the small cliff in front of the cave, unfurling your wings midair. You then get a cramp, and plummet headfirst into a pond. Floating to the surface, you angrily walk onto land and flap your wings dry before once more jumping into the air and flying into the dark. Grim: You stride with swagger out of your dormitory in the temple of Armok, grabbing your equipment and affixing it to your person. Finding yourself on the main street of the noble district, you head towards the gate leading into the main town. Retech: As you trek away from your camp you come across a quadrupedal lizard about a third your height. It looks rather hungry, and desperately runs towards you.
