Behind the Scenes 18: New Challenges, New Security
I'd say it's likely to be option 3 purely on the basis that the BTS video for Botany Bay was released last week and the challenge system's BTS video was this week. I would have thought if it was any other way the BTS video's would be ordered differently.

Behind the Scenes 18: New Challenges, New Security
I'm surprised nobodies mentioned that one of the rewards for the challenge in the video is a free spin on SoF. Also, this is a minor gripe but it irritates me that all the new interfaces Jagex are rolling out take up the whole playing screen.

9th of September: Live Q&A with CEO Mark Gerhard & VP Daniel Clough
[hide] Another classic example of someone coming to completely unsubstantiated and highly dramatised conclusions. I see only one "highly dramatised conclusion" about the milking and death of RS. Everything else he said (bar [bleep]ing about audio) were fairly reasonable conclusions to make. We must analyze even small things like backtracking and pauses because typically there isn't that much we have to go on. If MMG felt he needed to correct that particular statement, it's reasonable to conclude that the added revenues aren't going directly into the game. However, if they're going to the studio, we can at least assume that the game will benefit indirectly. _______ It's nice to hear that they might allow us to earn our items and XP again. I'd like that, especially if it included the various limited time offers I've missed. EDIT oh wait... still coming from loyalty points. Far from ideal. Far from being able to earn them through playing the damn game. [/hide] I was over generalising by quoting his whole post. I was specifically referring to the part of his post you mentioned but it was late and I was too tired to edit the post. /laziness

Maybe now all the SoF and Solomon haters will stop whining. It's quite obvious micro transactions were introduced for a reason. Like I said before in another thread, I doubt RS would still even be receiving regular content updates if they weren't generating different forms of income other than membership fees.

Squeal of Fortune "Updates" was: Spin Results (970 spins)
Just got on and used my free spins. Got two amulet fragments from 4 spins. I was probably just lucky but every spin had at least one fragment on a slot.

05 Sept 2012 - GWD Remastered
Not entirely. It'll probably be a while before EoC comes out. My point is, there isn't massive in depth discussion about the usefulness of each new item like there normally would be because the stats will change on them at some point anyway.

05 Sept 2012 - GWD Remastered
It's kind of redundant to discuss the stats of the new items when the EoC is on its way.

05 Sept 2012 - GWD Remastered
For some reason, when they mentioned a magical rift in the swamp I immediately thought of the hidden entrance to Zanaris. Could it be possible that was the source of his magic and not the water altar? Edit: Sy beat me to it >.>

If anything, once the initial hype dies down it'll mean the bottle necking we had at Graar will severely diminish, which is a good thing. All the bosses now have worthwhile drops so the amount of people camping a single boss should be more evenly spread out. Anyway, I tried Zammy as well and managed to get like 5 solo kills in 20 minutes. Unless you're going there with a large team it probably isn't worth it.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
I'm interested in this as well. Considering the gap between Bandos and Torva (and the rest of the armours) has been considerably shortened, wouldn't Nex's difficulty be way out of proportion with her drops? Graardor, or any of the four main bosses are infinitely easier to kill than Nex is. It just seems crazy that for such a small boost in stats (in comparison to before) you have to fight a considerably harder boss.

Except it's "high level" because it was made 5 years ago when the amount of maxed players was a fraction of what it is today, not because it's challenging. There's a difference between outdated and difficult. How does it matter that it's not challenging? You need to be a high level to do it effectively. So just train you stats like everything else. Stop feeling entitled. But mid level players can do it just fine if they didn't have to out-compete high level players. That's the issue. High level players have the ability to lock mid level players out (instead of simply doing higher level content like nex etc) At the same time, high level players have every right to be there and use their maxed account to profit from it. It's a predicament, to be sure. There's always going to be elitists who believe if you can't hold a spot you don't deserve the drops but that's just the way it is. Instanced worlds WOULD devalue drops beyond a doubt. A better system would be to implement a select few worlds where certain bosses can only be fought at certain combat levels.

You are forgetting how old gwd is, five years now. When it was released, and for a good while after, it was end game content. There were no overloads, no chaotics, no nex gear, no familiars (summoning came out 3 months later, and many players had no familiars/low level familiars for awhile, obviously). Considering the best armour before bandos/arma was barrows, few had access to bandos/arma for some time as well. So for a long time, gwd was pretty difficult. It took years for people to be able to solo over a hundred kills (safe spots aside). I do agree that at this point, gwd bosses are stupidly easy, however. And hopefully that will be changed at least slightly, as refrenced in the bts. Yes, but it is mid level content now. Would just be nice if people who are mid level could kill the now mid level bosses. Bosses as of now are... Giant Mole King Black Dragon Kalphite Queen Tormented Demons Glacors Dagannoth Kings 4 Gwd generals Corporeal Beast Nex Queen Black Dragon Fight Kiln (debatable if boss or not) Anything above Tds and Glacors you need to be maxed or near maxed in the respective stats to keep your spot/get the kill. Anything below and it's not worth killing. Tds and Glacors themselves require hard quests. I don't understand why everyone is so adverse to having a now mid level part of the game opened to mid level players. It's not so much people being against previous end-game content being accessible to mid-level players, it's about devaluation. Instancing the Gwars bosses would have such a huge impact on the prices of any item that drops there that it wouldn't be worth killing them in the first place.

One of the best looking months for a long time. Looking forward to pretty much all this months content. Also, lol at Botany Bay, it sounds like a reimagining of Thordur's black hole.

Let's assume the rate is 100k xp for every 50 spins which is roughly 10$ if you buy in chunks of 450. so 10$ buys you 100k xp. (on average, sure). Now, if jagex sold xp lamps at 10$ for a 100k xp lamp, the net result is almost the same. Yes, they aren't directly selling xp, but aside from semantics it has the same result predictably even at a low number such as 50 spins. It only gets more predictable the more people you average together. Why is the semantics of "directly" so important to you when the result is the same? I never said it was important to me. I was simply stating that they aren't directly selling experience. Semantics or not, regardless of averages, it isnt a direct sale.

BTS 16 - God Wars Remake (UNLISTED)!!
@Sy I don't agree with Draynor, I think it's one of the better looking areas in the game. Yanille and everything south of it is what needs to be updated first imo

Except it isn't directly selling EXP. Regardless of the law of averages, you don't get an EXP reward every time you spin the wheel.

That goes both ways you know... Sure it does, the people that blindly defend any and everything that is perceived to be bad by the mass majority are just as ignorant and misinformed as the people that relentlessly spew hatred. The trick is to keep level headed and open minded. Sadly, a lot of people only hear what they want to hear. I am actually pretty familiar with Gameguard, not from MapleStory (it's not the only game that uses it) but from other MMO's I have played. It's also notoriously bad at preventing cheaters and is despised by a large population of players that are forced to use it for certain software. If Jagex actually do use Gameguard I can't see it being particularly useful in the long run. ------------------------- I'm not going to claim I know a lot about business economics or structure because I don't but it seems pretty clear to me the reason why the SoF and SGS exist. Runescape isn't the crappy F2P game built and coded in a university dorm anymore; it's a commercial business. Marketing, extra employees, new tech and R&D all cost money. If membership fees arent adequate income then they need new ways to increase revenue. I honestly believe that if the SoF and SGS didn't exist then Runescape would be in an even bigger decline than it is now. Anyway, this thread has pretty much extracted all the discussion value it's going to get at this point, all that's really left is people voicing the same discontent as usual. I'd really like someone to point out the lies that are apparently so prevalent in MMG's post by the way, that would be really helpful.

There are so many people on this forum that just want to hate Jagex regardless of what happens. I swear even if they were to remove the SoF and SGS tomorrow people would still be throwing nonsensical and presumptuous bullshit all over the place.
