  1. TD's are so much different now from when I used to kill them pre-EOC :o Seems like 40-50 kills per hour was considered "good" back then IIRC

This generally seems like an underinvestigated aspect of things, at any rate, and it's also probably something that could confound the experiment itself. Going to have to remember to look for this one next time I have a sizable block of time. Even with the study's findings I'm not sure if that justifies the extent of sexism that tends to come up in these sorts of arguments at all, especially since those details still tend to be used to override the way people actually behave, or overrule actual rational decisions. That's more of what I'm arguing against than averages: the idea that individuals are not allowed to exist beyond their stereotypes :v I'll admit I'm a bit leery about how we've gone from "the wage gap is overstated" to "if there was a significant wage gap - which there isn't - it would be because of these factors". also kind of funny since risk-taking is generally not associated with rational decision-making, is it? or at least it's something I find amusing Testosterone increases risk-taking behaviors however I don't think I've heard anything about T increasing rationality or anything. Risk exists on a spectrum-- I know many people who avoid taking any risks in their lives because they worry so much. I also know many people who recklessly take too many risks and end up with lots of trouble and drama in their lives. The key is to find a middle ground and take calculated risks. That's what top business professionals usually do.

When it comes to complex issues like this it's often a mixture of both nature and nurture. It's silly to deny that men and women are, from a young age, conditioned to conform to their gender roles. But it's also silly to deny that men and women simply view life through different lenses due to their differing genetic makeup and therefore will often make different decisions when faced with similar problems

This came up with a quick Google search on the impact of hormones in the workplace http://web.stanford.edu/~niederle/The%20impact%20of%20sex%20hormones%20on%20competitiveness3.pdf tl;dr men tend to seek competition, women tend to deliberately avoid it

[citation needed] Well most men have penises whilst women have vaginas, for starters >_> If your penis is all that makes you a better executive, then one of us is doing our job wrong :v It's more a matter of hormones, such as men having higher testosterone on average. You should know better than anyone that changes in hormones can cause significant changes in one's behavior and decision-making, for better or worse

The BLS, for one: http://www.bls.gov/opub/reports/womens-earnings/archive/womensearnings_2009.pdf See pages 9 through 34. There will be variance within each category, of course, but it's not like comparing a teacher in a rural Alabama public school alongside oil workers in the Dakotas or hedge funds managers in New York... That page doesn't load for me >_>

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. >_> Are you trying to argue that there's an equal number of women in STEM fields than men? That there's an equal number of male teachers as female teachers? That women working the exact same jobs as their male coworkers are getting paid less for doing the exact same work? The data compares jobs with the same 'category'. It is not comparing teachers to STEM. What data?

You probably would've been good at it. You're used to working long hours-- I worked about 80 hours per week my first month till I could sell consistently, then I cut back to normal hours (~55 hours/week). The only sales jobs I'd avoid would be stuff like Herbalife and Amway. At least my MLM-esque company sold legit products and paid well given its low barrier to entry and long hours :P TIL 55 hours a week is "normal" 40-45 hours a week is normal. 55 was the norm at that job

My first sales job was at a marketing firm where I was cold approaching Walmart customers to sell them DirecTV. Now I'm in real estate. The DirecTV job hired anyone who applied since it had an MLM-esque business model and paid 100% commission at around $115 per sale. You were expected to earn 6-7 sales/week. It was very easy to earn $30-40k/yr for the average salesman. The best salesman in our office (who was also the best in the country, conveniently for an eager student like me lol) made around $75k. A lot of people switched jobs to sell cars, real estate, phones, etc. since the only way to earn more money at that job was to quit selling and start your own branch and become a manager. Those who switched to management make around $200-400k/yr The marketing company I worked for has several offices in most major US cities, always hiring anyone. They have different campaigns but they're almost all cold approach 100% commission with a high turnover rate, which is perfect for sales newbies. There's a residential door-to-door solar panel campaign, residential door-to-door AT&T campaign, commercial door-to-door office supplies campaign, cold approach Walmart customer DirecTV and Verizon campaigns... the list goes on.

It takes a certain kind of person to be a salesman which, stereotypically, this kind of forum doesn't have. More importantly, it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy sales long term, which this kind of forum stereotypically doesn't have. I disagree. Just about anyone can learn sales. There's tons of great sales books out there in every bookstore, library, and free on the web. Most of the people at my first sales job started consistently making sales within about a week since they were naturally much more extroverted and social-savvy than I was. It took me about 4-6 weeks before I started seeing consistent results. Before that, I was struggling to make sales and I was on the verge of getting fired before things finally clicked. Similar to the person who doesn't go to the gym because they're self-conscious about their body, and consequently remains self-conscious about their body because they don't go to the gym... A big reason I wanted to learn sales was because I knew it'd force me to develop really strong social and communication skills which I still lacked back then. If you feel that you'd be bad at sales, then that's why you should learn sales! I agree that not everyone is fit for long-term sales though. And for those people, there's marketing :P Sure because America is a youth-oriented culture. But after some number of years that job will inevitable end or the store will close, and it might be substantially harder to get the next job without some professional skills. I mean you can always go and acquire them if you save and spend money wisely but...society isn't exactly encouraging that. Sales and marketing are probably the safest, most stable careers there are. Sure you might have to switch jobs more frequently than other careers, however it will always be very easy to find a new job and very easy to match your previous income. If you don't work in sales at a company for over a decade, you'll get a lot of money from loyalty to the company, however you're going to have a very difficult time making that much money at a new job if something happens to you at your current company. Additionally, you have a massive advantage over everyone else if you choose to start your own business, as you already have the #1 skillset required for starting your own company (marketing and making sales) mastered by then. Nothing happens until a sale is made. Salesmen and marketers are always in-demand and always given priority over other employees at every company because employees in other departments cost companies money; salesmen and marketers make companies money.

Nobody realises how OP sales is. Tons of companies will hire you at age 18 without any experience, and tons of companies will pay you six figures after only about a years' worth of experience in sales
  19. the turkey coup may have failed, but the great TIF OT coup of 2016 has been a resounding success! In our benevolent mercy, former dictator Randox will not be put to death; but will instead be sent to exile in General Discussion, to live out her days on the "200mil in all skills" thread Boris5000, aka the subforum apologist, is also exiled :P
