  1. And the game thinks you're a girl
  2. Well nowadays you can do flyfishing at barb village and drop w/ the action bar. Not too intense. I took the really easy and fun (yet incredibly inefficient) method of fishing swordfish/tuna at the fishing guild w/ clay harpoon and swordfish gloves. I think it was around 100k xp/hr, excluding time spent on minigames.
  3. I'm the opposite-- I'd rather watch a movie or play video games than read a fiction book. But I really enjoy reading non-fiction if it's something that will directly benefit me. Easy for me to maintain interest when I can imagine the perks of learning whatever I'm reading about
  4. Yeah dude Goku's pretty awesome
  5. When I solo, I usually use momentum because I'm lazy. While maging with momentum, which has better DPS: Blitzer or Blazer? Assume Tier 8 for each ring.
  6. Yeah, but Goku is the strongest...
  7. I think this sort of thing is, unfortunately, inevitable in modern society. People like to blame gun control, or mental health, or religion, or the media, etc., but at the end of the day, when you're on a planet with 7 billion people, stuff like this is going to happen regardless of what preventative measures you take. Yes, you can make legislative amendments to reduce the likelihood and frequency of such tragedies, however there's nothing you can do to prevent such tragedies from happening. And I think that's what really scares the shit out of some people-- that this kind of thing could happen at any time, to anyone, and there doesn't even have to be a reason for it. It's a lot easier to say "he did that because guns are so accessible!" or "he did that because he's suffering from a mental disorder!" than it is to say, "he did it... just because." In other words, I think it's a lot easier to blame gun control, or mental health, or religion, or the media, than it is to accept that sometimes really bad things happen, for no reason, and there's absolutely nothing you can do to prevent it from happening to you or to the people you love. But that's not to say the things we blame can't still be changed to lower the likelihood of such things from happening again in the future... Think about it. Do you really think we'll ever reach a point where things like this will never happen again? No. Regardless of how "rare" events like these are, people will always look for something to blame for it happening because they don't want to experience such a tragedy again.
  8. I think RS has sort of gone past the point of no return. The general "play style" towards the game has changed too much, in a negative direction IMO. There isn't much to do for "fun" anymore. It's not like you can get rich, get the best gear, and "retire" by playing Castle Wars all day like you could in the past. Like I said, regardless of how fun something is-- if it doesn't offer some sort of useful reward or if it's an "XP Waste," then it's instantly dead content. A friend asked me, "What would you do if you got a comp cape?" I told him I'd probably quit. I think most people who max out suffer similar feelings-- they realize that all the "fun" is the journey towards the goals, and not the goals themselves. Which is the opposite of what it was in the past, or at least the goals were so vastly out of reach (read: maxing), that they never actually finished the journey and therefore either gave up out of boredom, or never quit having fun. But we probably wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place if the game wasn't entirely based on grinding and the principle of "you can't have fun until you bore yourself to tears for X hours!"
  9. Kind of surprised Jagex doesn't have high scores listed by XP instead of total level
  10. Reading 1 nonfiction book a week for an entire year is the equivalent of earning a PhD in that field btw
  11. Got 2 scrolls now :D LIKE A BOSS
  12. I think he was suggesting that Aspergers -> difficulty socializing -> frustration/anger -> shooting
  13. Did the scroll mission. Joint mission transformed into occultist mission.
  14. Joint special mission, occultist and missionary for 700 chimes and 350 gunpowder, 4k morale req. Also got a scroll mission, not sure if the joint mission will remove the scroll mission :\
  15. Ok thanks. Is there any known benefit to advancing an adventurer's story?
  16. Question regarding special voyages... Right now I've got 4 special voyages available... Missionary: Story reward Missionary: Chimes/gunpowder reward Biologist: Story reward Biologist: Chimes/gunpowder reward If I do the biologist's story voyage, does that remove the biologist's chimes/gunpowder one afterwards? If I do her chimes/gunpowder one first, will that remove the story voyage? Do the biologist's voyages have any effect on the missionary's? In other words... what order should I do those special voyages in?
  17. Failed the siren quest and my cyclops died. I'm going to be pretty much inconsolable for the next 3 minutes or so
  18. Do you get annoyed every time people are surprised to get rare PvM drops too? :P
  19. Pretty sure it's not going to get any harder until you unlock the next region. In other words, once you lvl up your ship/crew enough to handle these tasks, it'll be pretty easy till you're done with The Skull
  20. You can't pretend that Nex gear doesn't exist when you're engaging in PvP against a person with Nex gear, or competing against someone w/ Nex gear in PvM. And yes I'm sure more people quit over free trade/SoF, however whether or not people quit is irrelevant if they're still playing w/o having fun (or having less fun than prior to the updates). Start another topic about this or PM me if you want to discuss this further, though. I don't want to get off-topic again.
  21. Mutiny? You mean morale?
  22. Everyone learns differently, but if reading is your strong point, it was more than adequate on explaining how different ratings affect your success rates. The only thing I think it failed on was explaining how even though your voyages depend on a certain trait/combination of traits, that morality/seafaring still affect your ability to return with your goal accomplished & treasure in-hand. What aren't you understanding about PoP? Wait, so if something requires 1k combat and nothing else, I'll get less rewards if I max combat but don't bother to raise my morale/seafaring?
  23. Top three choices, in no particular order: 1. Online dating 2. Dancing classes 3. Morning running groups
  24. The "thing" in the bottom left corner looks like Anima from Final Fantasy X >_>
  25. This is entirely Jagex's fault. Server and bandwidth fees decrease every year, and the number of shards possible per server increases every year. One or two solid updates a month like was done years and years ago could easily maintain the game. IVP is greedy, plain and simple. There's a lot more to it than that. Without going too off-topic (again lol), consider RS in its "prime" which many would agree was around 2005-2006. A lot of the "best" updates at the time damaged the game in the long-run, but the damage wouldn't be notice until it had already been done. If Jagex quit making "game-changing" updates, then people would eventually get bored and move on to another game. Examples include: -"Choose the best world for me" feature, and sorting worlds by Ping: less people had "homeworlds," and instead hopped onto random worlds. Less "familiarity" and "community" feel at banks and popular training spots since you'd no longer bump into the same people every day while training -Skill capes: People used to train skills to ~85 and quit. 99s became common and everyone wanted a fancy cape to show off. "High-leveled" content has lots its significance because so many people are maxed when high leveled updates are released now. As opposed to in the past where having 90+ in a skill such as runecrafting or slayer was pretty uncommon -GWD/Nex: There used to be a small gap between the rich and the middle class. Rich items were generally cosmetic (dragon gear; rares), while the best gear was reasonably obtainable. You only had to work for about 15 hours with a modest income to get a whip or barrows. After GWD/Nex, PvM basically made skilling for cash obsolete. Nex exacerbated the problem by creating an incredibly overpowered set of equipment that required the same amount of time to "legitimately" obtain as training a skill 99 With more people wanting the best, out-of-reach gear and with maxing becoming a goal for the average scaper, rather than a tiny minority, people began obsessing over efficiency in order to make that goal as tolerable as possible. Spreadsheets and formulae become common knowledge. Every piece of existing content is heavily scrutinized and if it's not the best DPS or the best XP/hr, then it's immediately cast aside and considered useless or a waste of time. The game's variety and options are quickly narrowed down to only the "best." ...just my two cents on some of the more subtle changes over time in the RS community since the 2006ish. There's a whole lot more, but that should give you a good idea of what I'm saying. Feel free to reply to this in a new topic if you'd like to discuss it more in-depth though. I thought about writing a topic about this earlier, except without my own commentary, but I guess this'll do for now :P tl;dr: "Solid updates" aren't always a good thing.
