  1. I'm a 4th year compsci student. This is like teaching high school programming to kids (i.e. you). I'd think that a 4th year compsci student would know what shaders are, what 3d models are, and how the styles of tf2 and similar games are implemented versus how more realistic games are implemented. But apparently your college sucks.
  2. Wow... I'm out of this thread, I'm not getting trolled by this guy. These arguments are so inane that it is worthless to even try to counter-argue. Considering consoles came out 5/6 years ago, and computer hardware gets both more advanced and cheaper as time goes on, I don't think we're talking about PC back in the day vs Consoles, we're talking about PC hardware in the last couple of years vs Consoles.
  3. It's outdated, so what? A 3 year old outdated PC still has better hardware than consoles. I don't see your point. I don't need to keep my computer up to date by purchasing a gfx card every month because gaming doesn't require me to do so. You're confusing photorealism with graphics. You can apply the same technologies to a realistic game and a cartoony game. I can run tf2 with full AA just like crysis. You don't need "realistic graphics" in order to have high poly models and high res textures.
  4. That is true. I agree that it might be difficult for some to plot a PC that can play all of the new games for as long as the consoles do, but it doesn't require all that much learning, really. Consoles have a fixed hardware from nearly 6 years ago, and unless you want all the bells and whistles like x16AA, highly detailed shadows, physics and water graphics, you can get a console-like experience (with better controls and customizability) for extremely cheap. That is a very nitpicky point. Or an invalid point, if you use steam. Installing games on steam is as complicated as double clicking the game's name and waiting. In the end, most of your points come down to accessibility and knowledge. And well, all it comes down to is: how much are you willing to learn and dedicate to your hobby? You can't really call yourself a "gamer" (a term which I have come to despise) if you don't put more than the bare minimum effort in order to maximize your playing experience. Learning how to put together a decent PC isn't hard. Patching isn't hard. Pirating isn't hard. You have to learn these things, yes, but you'll get a much better experience as a reward for your efforts.
  5. That "PC gaming premium" bought him hardware that will last for the next 5 years and will most likely be superior to the next wave of consoles already.
  6. Consoles don't even get those games. So, even with lag in a single player game, having that game > not having that game. That isn't true. You can get a PC with specs above current gen consoles for 300$, if you'd care to look for it. That is also not true. A PC I bought 3 years ago for nowhere near $500 can run most games nowadays. Newsflash: These "lower graphic settings" on PC are the equivalent of console settings. So yeah, if you're willing to play with outdated parts, you might have to play with console graphics. Is that a problem? No. That's a hyperbole if I've ever seen one. Most "common" problems are fixed by patches shortly after a game is out. Don't spout opinion as fact. And don't pretend that you can only play on a PC monitor and kb/m with a PC, when you can hook it up to any display and use a controller if you so desire. No current gen game runs at 1080p. They run at 720p upscaled to fit whatever resolution your display is. Viewing distance is highly dependant on your setup, but a cheap PC running at medium graphics will easily work just as well as a console when hooked up to an HDtv, so I don't see your point. You're right, it's just your opinion. It is a fact that multiple people playing on the same console have the setback of having to sacrifice screensize in order to do so, oftentimes close to 50% of the screen, while on PC you don't have to. Most sports and party games for the pc also have the option to hook up multiple controllers (including emulators). Cool generalizations, poor point. On the other hand, I can buy 4-packs of games on steam for half the price of a console game. I'd hardly call is painful, and it feels you're just grasping at straws with this one. It's exactly the same process consoles use when installing games on the HDD to speed up loading times. //// Depends on your definition of "superior".
  7. If Iraq had a really expensive cure for cancer, I'd bet wealthy foreigners would go there too. That doesn't mean the average population benefits from the system.
  8. I feel like whoever wins, Americans lose. There needs to be an overhaul of the system in order to prevent corporations from buying out your representatives.

Maybe it's because I come from a monster hunter background.

Lots of potential wasted on poor execution. The combat would be fun if it was actually challenging, but the monsters (especially the big ones) are sluggish and easy to dodge, and having a dedicated healer pretty much removes any need to. Generic KMMO quests, go to Y and kill X mobs. On top of having to buy the game for full price AND paying a subscription fee, you have to face the cash shop too. I truly feel sorry for the potential wasted in this game.
  11. Previously, f2p could have 1v1 deathmatches uninterrupted by third parties. Now they cannot because the place they used for that is no longer single-way, and there is no replacement for it.
  12. Indeed it is. This is a decision harsher even than the f2p highscore removal, this actually removes content from f2p in order to allure them into buying p2p.
  13. That's a nice way of removing any kind of dangerous single way PvP from f2p, brilliant move Jagex.
  14. I keep in contact with some core testers, and last I've heard is that they were optimizing those two areas. They do seem to be complete. I can reserve some names from GW1, got to get some more HOM points :3
  15. I doubt they will, they wanna have some fresh begginer content for release. Plus, those areas are being tested by the core testers. Also, people who preorder get to play on the 25th.
  16. Steam does not do the same. It pauses any ongoing downloads if you boot up a game, but you can resume them just fine.
  17. He asked for a PC that is better than the consoles. I didn't even need 2Gb to acomplish that.
  18. Release date is officialy out, 28th of august. Last beta test will be 20-22 of July.
  19. It also means that anywhere that requires combat is easily overpowered by a cannon and ability spamming. Add onto this the strange new exp-gain formula, and it seems like it will almost be impossible to train slayer or even normal combat. True enough. I find combat extremely hard to level for a number of different factors. Why would they limit your training options like this? You either face something much more powerful than you, and you never hit and get crap exp, or you're restricted to the few monsters that actually fit the <30 criteria.
  20. Anyone else find that no single-way wilderness is a huge step back?
  21. Any programming language that has unsigned integers can go from 0-4,294,967,296. Unfortunately, you have to jump through hoops to get unsigned integers in java, which aren't native. So, if you cross the 2,147,483,647 boundary somehow, it'll start displaying negative numbers (most significant bit becomes 1).
  22. So, I went to kill some black demons(lvl 140, bolt weakness) with a character with lvl60ish ranged, dual rune cbows / dragon 2h crossbow. I was disappointed by the lack of accuracy and the time it took me to kill a demon. Is this because I'm used to having a max combat char, or are fights longer in general?
