  1. Agreed. For me, though, the crux of the game was the friends, so that's why I'd say that old was more fun, though by no means a better game.

    132 grrr
  3. That's a very single-minded way of viewing it. Every update has its detractors, and generally people condemn Jagex when they feel the need to and, if they are pleased with Jagex, they praise them or stay quiet. True, there are some that moan about everything, but that's not an RS issue - you find those sort of people in life. Telling them things like "stop moaning" isn't going to work. Similarly, there are the opposite types, who think that Jagex virtually walk on water and everything they do is perfect. I think, on the whole, most of us are balanced critics of Jagex. On the topic of this loyalty programme, though; it is pretty useless. Total and utter waste of time for everyone. There's little need to "wait and see"; I've been to Starbucks, and the principle here is identical. The difference is: the expectation is that Jagex will improve the game to give people the incentive to pay, rather than just chuck in some silly gimmicks. People go to Starbucks because they like lukewarm milk.
  4. Very well said indeed. It irritates me no end when people try to label the Times as a news outlet, usually to use it as a flimsy basis for expressing their discontent with an article that does not fit in to their view of the game. Ironically, I often see the very same people on this thread lauding these evil opinion articles if and when they agree with the opinions expressed by the authors. Only because you chose to approach and interpret the article as such, Silver.
  5. That's not surprising when you live in Estonia  It's only got like a million people and RS is centred on English speakers, followed by Germans and other west European countries. That said, I hear Estonia's fairly good to live in and so on. Certainly better than Latvia.
  6. Looking at it from a more calm perspective, that is true, but the message I intended to give, but I think forgot to express properly, was that Jagex could be doing far better things than spending their efforts on such nonsense updates as a loyalty programme.
  7. Apologies if that is what I implied. I do not think that at all - as previously mentioned on the thread, I wrote a very positive article on the clan camp update back in April -, but I do feel that Jagex is doing more and more of these silly little tricks in order to try and increase membership, and it's a pattern I'd rather they stopped before it gets out of hand. I am also very interested in this upcoming clan citadels update, and I've high hopes for Jagex in this sense. It's just unfortunate that they couple good updates with such transparent nonsense tricks as the MLP.

125 votes is still an incredibly narrow cross section of Tip.It users <_<
  9. I'd recommend abandoning rhyme schemes altogether, mon amis. Only people with incredible command of language and wide vocabularies can pull it off. I gave up long ago. For the rest of us, these artificial rhyme schemes (such as your AABB) sound forced and distinctly unpoetic. Otherwise, some pretty nice sentiments in your poem.
  10. Fernando Rey, even though he's dead.
  11. I'd live in the Bedabin Camp, if that counts as a 'house'. If not, East Ardougne, just for the thieving (which I imagine being so much more fun irl).
  12. I've never been addicted to RS. I was 'addicted' to Pokémon as a small child over a decade ago, but since then my I've never been addicted to anything else... except skunk.
  13. Shouldn't Ellen, as a woman, be doing that anyway? ... Disclaimer: This is a pseudo-sexist joke. It is does not reflect the author's opinion, in part or in whole, and should not be interpreted as such.
  14. Very interesting - if the offer stills stands, "I volunteer".
  15. Clans getting an overhaul is a genuinely good update, and I wrote an article in favour of that in the Times sometime back in April. It's called "The Clan Camp" (boring name, I know) in case you wanna check it out. It was a solid update that the entire community can benefit from. But that's pretty much the only change of note in my books. All the new weapons and so on are fine, but they are commonplace and do not warrant either praise or derision in my mind. I don't personally think catering to the roleplaying community is going to do Jagex much good. The roleplaying community consists of like 7 people. Surely adding some innovation to cater to the Stories community from RSOF - which is, by the way, massive - would be far more welcome; e.g. the ability to get published in RS if you write a good enough, complete story. That's something I heard a few times back when I was there, and as far as originality goes it's a far less lazy update than a loyalty scheme.
  16. Congratulations on your independence, America. Rest assured, if Europe doesn't reconquer you one day, China will conquer the both of us.
  17. At the end of the day, my opinion boils down to this: Jagex is a games company. The company part means that they are of course entitled to make money. But the games part means that they really should be doing it by making the game - the crux of their business, after all - a good quality product. This means ensuring that it is engaging, fun and so on. Instead, they are trying to get people to play by offering lots of superficial rewards, none of which make any substantial difference to the game. Cramming a game with stuff does not make it a better game, and encouraging people to get these rewards quicker by not ending their subscription, even, as some do, putting it on hiatus, is a sly trick indeed. Coupled with the examples of devaluing the free game that I've mentioned in the article, none can deny that all of this is as transparent as it is lazy.
  18. More people go to my old high school... By the way, that's where I put my marker. Street view to see Indiana's largest high school by student enrollment. When I was in high school, there were only 400 students in the school and my class was the last to graduate with under 100. We walked 89 on graduation day. Small town fo' life! Though my school was bigger than yours Range, you might be interested to know that a friend of mine went to a school with just 3 people (himself included) in his yeargroup (I think you call it a 'grade' in America). Overall, there were less than 89 people in the school. I think there were under 40.

True dat. At the end of the day, so many academic disciplines were created in the 20th century that most of them were a pile of tosh. Research into uniqueness sounds like a waste of time, just like those scientists that make blue strawberries. Perhaps this census could be the beginning of the end for psychological research as a whole... :ohnoes:
  20. The guy who killed you wasn't stupid. You made the mistake of trusting that a total stranger wouldn't kill you.
  21. I see what you mean about some of the changes that would have to be made in the wake of Dungeoneering. I think I posted them here somewhere.
  22. Finally got round to placing my marker.
  23. Being a bit sarcastic and failing to qualify anything you say does not constitute a response, Gabe. At least bother to answer me properly.
