  1. Sorry, but I prefer the actual Veteran Cape. Yours is just too garish/sci-fi to fit in in the game, though for the record it's a very nice design.
  2. Yes, I do understand the concept of the wilderness, but my point is how pathetic it was, that he was trying to PK me with around 10k gear on, It's just an unwanted annoyance. Before the regression, a revenant could have done the same to you anyway. Players are no different.

:wall: RS is an MMO. A majority of people use abbreviations wherever possible; it's always been the case. They know the difference between "Your" and "You're", for example, but they're indifferent. This said, MMOs are bad places for Grammar Nazis.
  4. I absolutely agree with this. In my opinion, the last good skill was Construction, and that's five years old now. Please add me to the list. HOWEVER: if this is going to be a popular skill, I think a few aspects of it may hinder it. Nice idea, but since this was made Dungeoneering has done that and if Jagex add another skill which incorporates many skills it won't be looked upon too kindly by an already angry playerbase. I think another skill that relies on others would be seen as a cop-out; I think that making brushes and so on should rely only on Archaeology levels. This would make it far more popular and viable. This too would not be popular. One of today's big issues is botting, and people would rant incessantly if bots started getting rock samples over them at fissures. Such a system would anger people and simply cannot be implemented in today's game environment if the archaeology skill ever makes it. I must affirm once more, however, that I am 100% in support of the skill. Very well thought out, detailed, and imaginative.
  5. Don't you think they're trying? Please try not to reiterate what's been said countless times before - by saturating the forum in bot rants, many of us are less inclined to bother with them. I only clicked on this because of the attractive title. Foolishly, I did not anticipate it would be a rant like most others.
  6. Plato's Republic is by far the greatest work in the entire Platonic canon. Before I read it, I'd read the Timaeus and Protagoras dialogues, so I thought I knew what to expect from Plato... turns out it superseded everything I expected from it. I think that it is probably the book of political science. If you've read Aristotle's Politics, which is amazing, then Republic is better. Penguin do the best translation. I also used to own a version of The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, originally printed at the turn of the 20th century, but I never read it before I lent it to my moronic cousin who dropped it in a bath 'without realising' (so she says) and completely ruined it. I'm not so interested in it as to buy a new version. If you're into politcal literature, I'd also recommend 'Hiero' by Xenophon (which can be bought in a wonderful book by Penguin called Hiero the Tyrant and Other Treatises), which is about the nature of tyranny (which is, of course, a Greek concept - tyrannos being the Greek term for a ruler who gains power illegaly. Interestingly, it wasn't originally a derogative term. The common behaviours of tyrants, discussed in the Hiero, are what gave the term its negative connotation. Tyrants also played a fascinating role in the political landscape of the polis' of classical Greece, in case you wanted to look at that aspect of it.), and a book from Oxford's World Classics called simply 'Political Speeches', by Cicero, irrevocably greatest orator of ancient Rome. Generally, the fractuous and unstable politics of the Roman Senate before its transition to Empire and of classical Greece before it was unified by the Macedonians make for fascinating reading, and any book on these topics by a contemporary historian would in all certainity be a brilliant read if you're not into older books. Personally, I haven't read any thought, so I'd have a little browse on Amazon to find the best in these categories. I hope my advice has been helpful. Please say if you want me to say more on Plato; it would make a long post and I have tried to be brief.
  7. You could not be more wrong, Sy. You're just making assumptions from what you've heard about aloof, literarily prodigious people and you assume that it applies to all of them and all of their communities. In the real world, this does happen, though not as often as everyone makes out. My personal experience of the Stories community on the RS Official Forums is not like this at all. There were essentially three types of writer; the literary, mainstream and middle. The literary people wrote works which fitted in only loosely with the setting of the game, with rich language and imaginative, unorthodox character development and a myriad of ingenious literary devices. The mainstream work adhered closely to the setting of the game and was often poorly written and dull. The middle was essentially a middle ground between these two extremes. I'd say 5% of works were literary, 40% were mainstream, and 55% in the middle. Now, despite all of this, the poor writers were almost never flamed. True, more often than not the literary would read and critique mainly each other's work, for it stimulated them more, but in general there has always been a sense of community. The literary writers did help the mainstream, as did the middle, and flaming was very rare. In all my time and over a thousand posts in the RSOF Stories community, I only ever saw one writer flamed. I will not name them, but I will quote their best written work of an oeuvre of five. Before I quote the opening to give an idea of the standard of the writing, please bear in mind that this author was offered constructive feedback many a time, which he rudely ridiculed and was therefore flamed by the middle, and some literary, sector of the community. Without further ado, here's the opening of the only work I've ever seen flamed.
  8. For the sake of common sense, I'm going to try and talk a bit of sense (seemingly impossible on this thread) by stating some facts: 1. Jagex does not encourage botting to make money. They try and do the opposite in order to keep members paying and get money. 2. It's not possible to sue Jagex, botters, or people who encourage botting. For those Americans out there, Jagex is based in the UK, meaning they adhere to a legal system where you can't sue people vast sums for petty reasons. 3. However, it is unfortunate that some encourage botting, and I think Jagex ought to ban any who do so on RSOF.
  9. It's a nice idea, but I'm pretty sure that Warden can't be used on browser based games. Let's face it, RS would need to be drastically revamped to be able to justify moving into WoW territory.

 It's time people stopped ranting impulsively and actually thought a little about what they're ranting about. The cynical people don't help either.
  11. Thanks for the comments, meili. Much appreciated as always. ;)
  12. Another Yes from me.
  13. I agree with your proposal. Reporting abuse in busy places like the GE is indeed difficult.
  14. That's where your problem lies, not with the settings. May I ask what the point is of having a clan if you don't care for those in it? I want to allow more people to recruit, yet at the same time, not allow them to do other actions such as changing the motto or motif. Also, I do care for the people that are in it, but having more people in my clan allows me to have more flexibility since my clan is mainly for socializing and holding events. However, with only a few people attending events, it can become a bit dull and I am not even able to challenge in a rated clan war due to the 10 player minimum. What's the point of having a social clan with only a few people? With the ability to lower the minimum rank to invite, I can let my clanmates have more power and also rank them based on merit instead of making them all admins. Apologies for sounding like a greedy, selfish bastard in the beginning, but this would increase the freedoms of my clanmates and allow my clan to be more fun. It seems to me that you're too eager for your clan to be big and successful. The big, famous clans of today became so only through gradual, measured growth and expansion with the primary aim of making their clan a nice place to be for its members. Your clan, with this expansion plan, will only have power struggles, arguments, resignations due to the lack of a true social atmosphere (because of the cultivation of a purely expansion-based mentality) and, as a result, isn't likely to last long. I strongly suggest a more mild approach with a better balance of ranks and time spent fostering an actual communal feel.
  15. Source please. The NO Campaign flyers state that Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Australia are the only countries in the world with AV and that, of these countries, Fiji is "planning to get rid of it" and "6 out of 10" Australians don't like the system. Naturally, as with all persuasive material, it's manipulated nonsense.
  16. Tactical voting damaging hopes for smaller parties, regardless of the voters' actual preference, means that the current system is rather inflexible. Smaller parties have little chance, because people feel their only vote "doesn't count". Someone with Lib Dem leanings may vote Labour instead, simply because it's more likely Labour will get in. This is the most obvious flaw in modern democracy, and AV presents a good solution to this.
  17. I had no problems with bank slots, personally. I sit just above the 70 mark with all items deposited in, I bank a lot of skilling items and random event items take up ~20 spaces too. I say it's fine as is. It's a matter of organization. My point was not that people need more slots necessarily, though free players who aren't as organised as yourslef are unfairly burdened with the restrictions and need for organisation, which leads to many I know doing regular bank clear outs - arguably a relatively boring task. Instead, I believe that the ratio of bank slots for F2P and P2P should be a little more balanced; the current ratio of 39:219 is massively disproportionate, regardless of whether or not it is enough for some people, and personally I think it really does need balancing. Now, aside from random event items and necessities for skilling, there are other things to be taken into consideration. One example would be holiday items; though they can be effectively stored with Diango to save space, anyone using them regularly will want them in their bank. On my old account, which I owned from 2005 until 2010, when it was hacked, I had at least 30 holiday items from five years of Easters, Christmas' and so on. Storing with Diango is a pain with things you use regularly, and so I opted not to. Bank slots are, in short, also quite inadequate for many, as well as unfairly proportioned.
  18. Bank slots are hugely, hugely imbalanced. Granted those who pay deserve to have more, but the current situation is just disproportionate. Free players have 78 slots, members have 438. Personally, I think free players deserve around 150 to balance this issue a little.
  19. I strongly disagree with this. Personally, I think these tutors (or whatever they were called) hanging around Lumbridge were among Jagex's most needless updates. Their tasks were only of use to new players in terms of the money they gave, but they were also incredibly monotonous and therefore gave an awful impression of the game to new players. For the rest of us, they just filled up the world map with pointless symbols. Definitely restoring them would be a mistake.
  20. Nice sentiments. However, it is more than anything an idealistic approach. It's human nature to be offended. Accordingly, people object to being mocked. Especially if the troll is stalking them, for example. Personally, I've seen some of my friends flip completely at being continually mocked in this way. To the guy that started the rant, I'd try to apply what Silvertaler said and, when you can't because it's too hard, rant.
  21. Thanks everyone who took the time to respond to my article. As always the feedback is much appreciated, and will be taken into consideration next time I write an article for the Times (though I think it may not be for a while, after three consecutive weeks). That is a brilliant way of phrasing the sort of quests I had in mind when I wrote that. Good to see someone shares my approach.

This is a good start, however, I think the vocabulary is a little dry and lacks the poeticism and eloquence of truly good poetry. Furthermore, the style is a little dry.
  24. I 100% agree. "ZoMG he must be a b0t he is wearing dragon plateskirt. R3port Rep0rt!!" Both of you are spot on.
