I think it's a very bad thing if a person doesn't feel bad about taking someone else's life. More importantly, I think it's a very bad thing if a person feels good about taking someone's life in the name of research. The above is assuming that you believe a fetus is 'someone'. And again, if the research can be done another way, why not utilize this way instead? At this point, potential treatment of others is not taken away with the 'illegalization' of embryonic stem cell research, because adult stem cell research has been more successful/less potentially harmful.
  3. I haven't opened the envelope yet, just in case I want to return it. But he said it would come in the original case, which it didn't (unless he considers this envelope the original case).
  4. I was told a video game I bought would come in its original packaging. I'm expecting a Halo 3 case. I receive the package, and it's the disk in one of those square envelopes with the clear plastic circle on the front. Should I send it back?
  5. My Halo 3 came today. It isn't in the case, though. It's just in a paper envelope with the clear circular plastic around the front. The description of the product said it would be in it's original case. I don't know if I should send it back or email the dude about it...
  6. My ex girlfriend texts me like that. A big one is, "ya knooooooooow????" So annoying. The only instance in which that doesn't annoy me is when people use it on here, specifically "'soooo' annoying." It adds, so it's perfectly fine. :P

I have a feeling most people who look to get abortions wouldn't be told that/have the decency to research it.
  8. Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms - Frightened Rabbit. Such a distinct sound. The guy's voice grows on you so much. One of my all time favorite bands.
  9. Fit girls... She's cute, too. Seriously, I should have stuck with cross country, because those girls are my type.

Embryonic stem cell research involves abortion. I'm not addressing abortion, but rather stem cell research in relation to abortion, and that's perfectly on topic.
  11. @Rpg: That's great and all, but I hope you're not in it just to have sex with her. Like Dexek said, many girls get attached to the person whom they lost their virginity to. So if you aren't entirely sure about her, don't jump the gun. Fool around all you want, but until you're sure what you want (and you make sure it's what she wants), don't go near sex. We wouldn't want you to have another crazy ex, right? (If I am recalling correctly that you had a pretty crazy one in the past).

Okay, maybe it was a jump to say that abortion rates would increase if embryonic stem cell research was legalized (if it isn't already). My main buff against it is that it'll be used as a means of convincing people that their actions were okay. Justifying the killing of an innocent with 'unstable' research such as embryonic stem cell research is morally wrong. And I'd hate for people to not feel any remorse/convince themselves it was okay because of this research. It's funny, this talk about cloning and everything relates perfectly to the book I'm reading (Frankenstein). :P

    Today...

Had to wake up early to get trained in this new method for turning in time sheets (electronic ones, now). Usually I don't have to wake up until 10 on Thursdays, but I had to wake up at 7:30 today to go there, only to be given a handout that literally explained exactly how to do it. There was no need for a presentation. Then they feel like they have to hold a mandatory interactive 'lab' where you practice turning them in later today. Talk about a waste of my time. :\

Literally exactly what happens. Except the clones break out!

The dead decide ahead of time whether they will allow their organs to be harvested. I see no decision being given to these unborn children (or simple fetuses, whichever). Say all people's organs were harvested, and they were not given a choice, yet we could get organs from other means (just assume there is another means). I'd think many people would be way less supportive of harvesting than this other means of attaining the organs. @Rob: To me, word would get out really fast; word that simply "aborted fetuses can be used to help research methods of curing AIDS and cancer". The details of the research wouldn't get out/be understood by most of the public having abortions, but I think eventually all people would know that generalized 'fact' in quotes above. Why would a young adult have need to understand embryonic stem cell research when all they need to tell his/herself is that it's okay cause it's furthering research (in order to make them feel better about it/justify it)?

From what's been said, it sounds like there are other options for researching the exact same things. I'm all for using those other means. But if we can do the same research without killing a human (or fetus, whatever), I don't see why we wouldn't. I know you do not agree, but I see a fetus as a human being. Therefore, I am against embryonic stem cell research because many people will justify their actions (killing a child), since it might be contributing to said research. It doesn't matter if you believe they shouldn't and that doing so is wrong; people will convince themselves of it being okay. And personally, I think it's awful if anyone justifies killing another person with something as unsure as embryonic stem cell research.

Honestly, what is going to prevent irresponsible kids who are willing to have abortions from continuing to have sex and abortions if they can tell people that the fetus isn't going to waste?

I have a feeling abortion counts would increase greatly if embryonic stem cell research was legalized. You cannot deny that a person would feel a lot better about killing someone (thus more inclined to do it) if they knew it could possibly aid in the effort to save other lives. EDIT: @Sprint: Why do you think law enforcement exists? People do try to prevent others from killing each other.

    Stem Cells

I understand that. But honestly, the rationalization of abortion being okay will happen if they are told constantly that their aborted fetus will be used to further research that could save lives. Just how I see it.

I never liked the idea of using an aborted fetus for stem cell research because of my views on abortion. But furthermore, people will begin to start saying, "Abortion isn't a big deal, because you're contributing to stem cell research." It's a long way down the slippery slope.
  22. Complaining about other people's complaining on this thread is duuumb. :\ I have this thing where I'll be talking during class (to get participation points; after three contributions, I shut up the rest of class) and my body forces me to swallow mid word. Makes me look like an idiot. Might as well say: professors who grade you on your participation. I like lecture classes, tbh.
  23. It's always a good feeling when you find out someone genuinely misses you in their life. Not the whole fake, "Yah, I miss you too, you should come visit" thing.
