  1. okay i'm going to trust your interpretations on both accounts.
  2. Okay birds does sound kind of demeaning. i agree. i won't say that anymore. No, i wasn't expecting this thread to attract so many harpies. maybe that speaks to my lack of understanding of them.
  3. well i did vaguely know about what they were all about. but i thought it would be fun for people to explain it to me. i wasn't sure it would generate so much controversy - we better not have a harpy flapping fight or however you birds settle your disputes in here though :ohnoes:. ^ that was a salient observation. but lokie tells me harpies are generally being more discreet about their avian identities. maybe that's why.
  4. hmm okay. The art of flight is throwing yourself at the ground and missing. Harpies have to aim at the moon to achieve this<-- aww.
  5. what's the proof that it switched to roll for things like wyverns - did jagex say? hedgehog i feel like you've been so oblique at addressing one of the Big Questions of this whole thread, even with my prodding. Are people really determining the the equipment bonuses and levels of things to a good degree of accuracy? that's what I want your opinion on - thanks.
  6. Apparently there is a growing brood of harpies on tip.it. Are they avians? what do they do exactly? i just never could understand what they were all chirruping on about. explanation appreciated - thanks! :).
  7. okay i think you must jump in it . draw those noses and lips. I want to see them, no matter how loopy or whatever! i get so frustrated when people say they can't do it - i had one girl at my school literally do a project of drawing (incredibly well) everyone's bodies - but without faces :shame:! of course if was painfully disguised as being artistic, but the plain fact was they weren't there because she was afraid to draw them. i look forward to following this blog as long as you keep posting drawings :).
  8. if i was to offer my interpretation of the fps issue i would say that may have been Our Lord God intervening, so that you might unhook yourself from the computer and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus . i'm glad to hear everything is running smoothly again, though :).
  9. okay ill assume corp is 'it'. yeah hedgehog, you would have to figure that out. but i think people have done it successfully for things, or at least they claim to have, via this method i saw mentioned in the 200m xp thread - . === cb being based on rolls instead of levels would seem to imply that corp would be weaker than it is, i think.
  10. swift gloves and void deflector? that is an interesting debate. I'm not sure the swift glove's effect is worth the 20 range attack you sacrifice (especially if the OP was using a cannon). my understanding of the swift gloves based on the limiting testing i did was that there was a certain chance that if you *were* to hit 2/3+ your max hit then *instead* you fired two shots (neither of which would have to be 2/3+ your max hit). So whether or not the special happens is applied after the calculation for damage (and if you aren't going to hit for 2/3+ your max then the chance is 0 it will happen). Therefore the special effect does not equate to 200% the damage of a normal shot, but rather 150%. and that plus the low frequency of the effect makes for only a marginal increase in dps. perhaps that is not how they work, though. what is your understanding, quyneax? you know, i just read the rs wiki page and i think i've interpreted their quote from jagex about the swift gloves wrong all along - maybe they mean if you hit 2/3+ your max then on your next hit the special may activate. I find it hard to say, though, given the last part of the quote.
  11. that sounds like its part of the ice and fire song, etc. series - is it? I just read the wikipedia page of that series - had never heard of it before - and was completely astounded and engrossed for a few hours. it sounds like fantasy writing at its best. == right now one of the books i'm reading is The Spirit of Saint Louis - a memoir by charles lindbergh, whos trans-atalantic flight marked a paradigm shift in aviation.
  12. you need to know the defense level to gauge the efficacy of goliaths.
  13. it would be awesome if dragonbane bolts worked on them, but i don't think they do. The latest from rs wiki is: if you're using a cannon then void and a chaotic crossbow would likely be best i think.
  14. you're not late. okay, i understand how one would go about getting a defense roll , but of course that doesn't say anything about the defense level, which is the pertinent thing to goliaths. Maybe i misunderstood the 200m xp thread discussion, but i think they were using monster examine to see how the max hit changed when they reduced the thing's stats by an absolute amount or defined percentage of the level . Then with that information one can - i think - finally determine the variables in the defense roll calculation (i.e defense bonus and level) - because there are 3 unknowns and now you know 2 :).
  15. to me, the community is responsible for the downturn of rs in the sense that if we didn't buy spins, they would have gone away, or that option never have been implemented in the first place. Jagex offered us unhealthy cake, and people ate it. jagex is a business and we are the customers. our behavior determines their actions. unless they are regulated and incentivized to not sell unhealthy food by some even larger power which operates for The Greater Good jagex will cater to their customer's most warped, self-harming desires, if they are sufficiently prevalent. That is how unfettered capitalism works. (i'm really sorry i didn't read this thread first. I will try to!).
  16. A lot of people like gp. I guess not enough people were willing to contribute to such a fund. and i guess there are problems with that - like people fudging data for money :P. thanks for the data powerfrog.
  17. yep that one. the way it came out just added to the intimidation for me.
  18. okay quyneax. yeah i thought you probably knew. but american politics can be frustrating to observe for sure. I don't see the existence and use of a death penalty as being anything like the epitome of american hypocrisy though - sure there are those for which the punishment inflicts much suffering, but then there are those wishing they could get it which can't, and there are those for who the punishment of living out their lives in jail would be worse. ideally, probably the convict should be able to choose to have a lethal injection if he wants, and it shouldn't be mandatory for anyone. i do think the death penalties' ability to make a statement is interesting. you know, there was this milk scandal in China a while back, where to get the watered-down milk though the quality insurance measures it was doped with this toxic, nitrogenous compound, which simulated the protein content of pure milk. And 1000's of kids got sick, and a handful died, and there was public outcry, and so on. and what did the chinese government do? They ended up sentencing a number of the people involved to death. I feel that is probably a much better anti-corruption measure then sentencing them to life would have been. of course, one has to wonder how much it was done to appease the public, and how much it was done to prevent such atrocities from happening in the future. nonetheless my immediate reaction to hearing that was - yeah! they got what they deserved. way to go!
  19. i do think very much that the government and politicians and officials care about the persistence of their countries, and would not do something knowing that it would doom them. I believe those are the conclusions that must be drawn from the way their governments operate, from what it does. if they operated with a suicide-bomber mentality, then perhaps one could argue differently. But I believe wealth and being alive is very important to the people who control the region - more important than sacrificing everything to wipe out a country. Here's a quote from an A.I researcher which i like: it is true that there are exceptions. but those exceptions tend to be people without much capacity to destroy the world anyway, i think. I'm realizing this quote isn't 100% relevant, but meh.
  20. just because they don't campaign for those things doesn't mean they don't strongly believe in them. there are just certain things it's not politically viable to talk about in america (yet). so if you want to be a politician and try to do some good things, then you might end up having to compromise about what you talk about - but that's a compromise many politicians are willing to make, and a compromise which i applaud them for - because it is a compromise that must be made (for now) if we are to eventually reshape politics here (make it more accommodating to scientists, and so on). The reason why some things are not viable to campaign about is more due to the powers that control large potions of the political sphere - and the way they brainwash the electorate - than with your average politician, mayor, presidential candidate, etc. But those people are dieing and younger people have more and more money and influence, so things are going in the right direction i think. I suspect that Ron Paul, for example, would not be bothered by gay marraige rights, and that Obama might be much less religious than his compaign might want the public to believe. but there is a certain restraint with regards to gay marriage, and a certain religiosity that one must have, to campaign successfully on the national level right now. it's sad it's that way, but it's only through electing people with closeted faithlessness or support for gay marriage, that the demographics of politicians will change. Sorry I feel like i rambled a bit! I just feel it's a bit premature to write candidates off because they don't support things that they can't support to be candidates in the first place!
  21. I've never understood why people think that if Iran got a nuclear weapon they would launch it at Israel. Wouldn't they be ensuring their own destruction, then? the only would way that i see it happening is if mad men got a hold of one and everything (but we know the chances of that happening from historical precedent and simple analysis - next to nothing).
  22. when i was banned, i wanted to reply to your reply about the metagame irl. i liked it :).
  23. what happened to gamoose2? did he heed zarfot's most recent advice?
