Need advice - Considering buying a graphic tablet
Black_Flat replied to jak722's topic in Art and Media
WACOM!!!!! I have one (its only an a5 one its all i could afford at them time after impulse buying heaps of sh*t for my room) i love it. You do have to do some tweaking to the sensitivity because the standard is a bit bodge i think, but after some tweaking to get it set up right for you it is one of the best tools that i have for my computer. Wacom +1 Black flat -
Ever since i first saw the hawkeye one ive thought, thats an awesome sig, i wish i had one like that... Seriously its just so different from every other style on tip.it, i think its fantastic. Black flat

Another great sig, but personally i like the hawkeye one that you've got atm, so i would keep your current sig over that one. My personal thoughts... Black flat

you are a truely amazing artist, i love the detail that goes in to your pictures, but somehow dispite the detail they look so simple and thats what i think i love the most. Art should never be difficult to look at, having to look ever so closely to pick out the most minor of details, somehow your art is easy to look at, but everytime i look back at one of your pictures i can notice something different that i like, i dont know many artists that can do this well. I love this peice, keep up the great work. Of your artworks (on deviantart) my favorites are Elf Girl, Vincent Vallentine and Benjamin, all fantastic artworks. One question though, how long does it take you to make one of these artworks that you do so well? I would be very interested in watching a blog of you making one from start to finish. Black Flat

When you're working, do you like being watched by others?
Black_Flat replied to jak722's topic in Art and Media
I can't believe that people dont like it when people look over their shoulders, i love it. If you ask me art is all about expressing yourself and thats exactly what i do, weather im painting, sketching, taking a photo or doing something on my computer i love it when someone comes up and watches me work for the following reasons - An extra pair of eyes always helps, weather you drew an arm too big or a nose too small. - I like to show people that may not know how to do what im doing how to do it, hopefully if they're doing something i can't do, they'll return the favor. - It puts a bit of pressure on you, and thats when you work your best (well i do anyway). Pressure add's importance to what your doing, you want them to see that your good at what you do so you try that bit harder. Art is an important part of my life, and because i have alot of people that are important to me i like them to be a part of it, wether its me drawing a friend, doing a painting of one of them or just showing them how to do something, it makes me feel good. I disagree, hair is the most difficult thing to draw on people to make look realistic (imo) the trick i use when sketching is to lightly draw hair, smudge it with my finger (to fill it out) then draw over the smudging slightly harder (not too hard mind you). Very nice drawing, in future i would do the following though, - Remember the key points to drawing is highlights and lowlights, contrast in always important so keep some of that ever important white in the picture. - The eyes look as though you drew them upside down, eye lashes are far less noticable from the bottom (the look more like a shadow) on the top however you didnt draw a eyelid (even when your eyes are open you have an eyelid) and there are no lashes on the top. - Ears, a good way to draw ears is to have them starting at the ends of the eyes (the top of the ear to the point on the eye<) to the bottom of the nose (the bottom of the ear to the bottom of the nose) - Unless someone has an under/over bite, the lips usually join up at the ends again like a point But that is a great drawing, keep up the work. I look forwards to seeing more drawings on tip it, but other users as well as yourself. Black Flat

Love the sig, prolly cuz i love the movie, so twisted that you have to love it... You've incorporated the screens well, very nice. Oh and btw sebbeberg, i wouldn't be at all supprised if that did tkae over an hour, sig making can be alot harder than it seems, and i dont see why but for some reason alot of people think that doing black and white is easier, when infact it is only ever so slightly easier but so much more effective. A render on these forums for some reason has been mis-interperated as an image, not an actual render. And so the image that you have in the bg with the low opacity between the abstract bg and the radial gradient. Im not saying add one in, im commenting on how much i like the use of the image (not render, i just dont want to confuse people that wouldnt understand image even though its easier to say) in the sig, it reminds me of the old school way it was done 5 and 6 years ago (not so old school but thats when i got into photography and photoshop...) Lol, come on kids eat your cereal its good for you... Thorpy says it's fully sick. I really like this sig, good mixture of colours, contrast, great text choice, again about the 2d effects tho, they take away from the image rather then adding to it, i would try replacing them with a over brush or something. Very nice tho, i like it, i havn't seen one done in that style for a while (1 px black border, abstract bg with a radial gradient with a render... Very old school. Black flat

I wish i could show some pictures on here, Honestly you have no idea how great a picture can look when you get a model. Try it, if you have a few mates that love taking photos chip in together and hire a model for say 3 hours, normally costs about 50 bucks (AUD) an hour for a decent model. But get 4 mates who love taking photos and if 30 bucks, not bad and you'll get some amazing shots. I love the simplicity of the pictures, they look very natural. Keep up the great work. Black flat -
Excuse me if you take this as rude but personally i dont think that the dragon looks very realistic (if that is the look your going for) and i also think it looks mis-shaped. I took the liberty (excuse me if you think its rude again, if you want me to i'll delete my post) of doing a 5 min sketch.. i did screw up the left (on your right) wing majorly but again i did this rushed... Things that i can see that i didnt like - The eyes look very fake - The body, there is no body - The Neckline is skewed in an awkward position - There are several bones in the wing that are conected like joints, while there would be a few the main bone (horizontal one) imo would be a singular bone as it would be far stronger - Dragon is facing one way, and yet the wings are positioned as though he is facing the other way - Horns are far too perfect, dragons are rough creatures, they will have chipped bones and teeth (teeth also too perfect) - You gave the dragon a kind of beart and hair thing, dragons have scales not hair. Again i am very sorry if this is seen as offencive and if you request it my post will be removed Black flat

thanks cadburys, i appriciate it. again very nice tut's, although i dont use ur methods of using the top menu's (I LOVE HOTKEYS, seriously they cut the time it takes in half...) Black flat

I thought that i may be able to make it alot smaller by cutting out some frames... i had it going from blue, to red to green and back to blue, alot smoother transitions between and far more frames making it look alot better... and in its original format it actually looks quite good (not as blocky) Unfortuantly this was 7.7 megs (YIKES) so i still believe that getting it down to 180 isnt so bad... And i do actually like the 'tire tracks' as you said (although its actually meant to look like corrigated steel...) I felt as though it gave the image a bit of depth, but i will take your comments into consideration. I dont think i will do any 3d animation sigs, as that is what i wanted to get into next, which is unfortunant but i suppose if i have a 1meg sig then that doesnt really work... I may work on getting down the compression and then try again, but i think that this will be my last animated sig for a while (next however i will be doing a few slightly animated bg's, i may post them up here once completed, but i have a few sketches and idea that i'd like to put into action) Black flat

Just one of those movies that i truely did not enjoy, i felt as though everything lacked from the movie. Plot was just stupid, acting was terrible... It just seems like a very amaturish movie that could have been done by any film student, i mean it had a 6 million dollar budget, where did it go? I realize that its expencive to make movies but i just dont see any part of the film that would be expencive to make, no elaborate sets that needed to be made, every location was already built, basic props.... Donnie Darko flopped in the box office for a reason. Black flat

Actually: Yes. Explanation is needed. I don't really see how he cuold be your favorite, with the few movies he has made. He directed the first Star Wars movie, American Graffity and THX 1138. And there's the three new Star Wars movies, which aren't that great. Sure, Lucas has been a very influential man in the history of cinema. But from all the things he did, direction is the thing he's least famous for, and that's not for nothing. And tarantino didn't direct From Dusk 'Till Dawn. And I don't get your comment on Kill Bill? + Writing, producing, directing and taking a role in your movie really isn't something new, rare or special. I don't see why you're cheering so much for it. If you want an explination of why George Lucas is a great director thats easy, every star wars, and American Graffity (cants say ive ever actually watched THX 1138). The only reason people dont appricate the direction of star wars 1,2 and 3 is because of the guy who played anikan did a [cabbage] job, also star wars was loved world wide, people were disapointed because they expected too much, get someone who's never watched a star wars or heard much of the hype (someone who's lived under a rock for 35 years) and get them to watch the first 3, they are great movies in their own right. I am a Tarrantino lover (not in the bad way) i love his films and i believe that they should be viewed the way that he intended them to be viewed, would you be annoyed if the Godfather part 1 was split in 2 parts, how about The usual suspects? Watching Kill bill in 2 parts for me is just plain wrong, i actually put both on my computer chopped them together and took out the middle (where uma thurman explains what happened in the last kill bill)... Thats how the movie was meant to be viewed and it is incredible. The reason i applaude Kevin Smith so much is because he is my favorite actor and i have so much respect for him, how many directors would help their actors through drug addictions throughout the course of making a movie and not sack them instantly, Kevin Smith is a stand up great man. That is why i applaude him as i do. Tarrantino is in fact an aweful actor and i admit so, but you've gotta admit his attempts at acting adds some great comic relief. And Donnie Darko is a terrible movie, it one of those Film noir movies that belongs at the bottom of a $4.99 bin in your local convenience store... Black flat

This is my latest basic sig, i decided to dabble a little in animation without avail as it is 6 times the allowed limit. Anyway i was going to do alot more to it until i realised the size it would be and so its still just a very basic no render or even text sig. Hopefully soon ill figure out a way to make the quality remain while the file size drops dramatically. Black flat

wait.. whats a render? A render is an image made up of wireframes that has been 'rendered' after being, (without knowledge atm of the proper word) coloured. Jenifer Lopez in real life not a render A photo of Jenifer Lopez not a render Jenifer Lopez doing anything remotely sexy is a render A render is a fake, a computer generated graphic normally. Sorry for being a noob but ive heard it many times and never actually figured out where it is.. In number 2 part 5 you mention the tween tool, where is this in photoshop? Very nice tuts black flat

Robert Zemeckis - His attention to the most minor of details is incredible as well as his writing of the back to the future trilogy. As well as whenever he teams up with a big name, his movies seem to be great. Favorites Forrest Gump Contact What lies beneath Cast Away and of course the back to the future trilogy The Wachowski Brothers Ok so the matrix 2 and 3 wern't all that good, but you're not asking who writes the best sequals your asking who is the best directors. Direction in the first matrix is good, Direction in the 2nd and 3rd matrix is brilliance. Favorites Matrix (screenplay more so than direction) Matrix 2 (direction) Matrix 3 (direction) Quinten Tarrantino THIS MAN IS A GOD, anyone thats as messed up as Quinten Tarrantino with as much money as he has, frankly scares me. By know im suprised that he hasn't saw'n off his own arm and had it surgicaly attached to his skull... Favorites Kill bill (ITS ONE MOVIE IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SPLIT INTO 2) Pulp Fiction Resvour Dogs From dusk til dawn (just disturbing) Kevin Smith - Truely one of my idols (and the only idol i have that has nothing to do with motorsports... but thats a whole other bag of worms) his hillarity and direction is second to none, i've never heard of any one before him being able to : produce, direct and act while managing his best friend though a drug adiction WHO IS ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTORS IN THE MOVIE... how he does what he does, i don't know, the only man to ever make a movie that i've had to stop half way through because my jaw hurts so much from laughing so hard. Favorites all of them... Clerks Chasing Amy Mallrats Dogma Jay and silent bob strike back Jersey Girl (a romance movie that i like...) Clerks 2 George lucas... nothing has to be said thats about it... by far Kevin smith is my favorite director, but there are just so many greats... Black flat

IMO a seriosuly ugly pic of jessica alba... if the picture was nicer then i would rate higher but... 6/10 Black flat

you didn't make this; did you? because the way you said it sounds like you're just posting up someone else's sig and saying that it's cool. I tend to agree, especially since the name on the bottom right corner is Lexisae btw i gotta say bottom one looks better, but the BG looks alot like a desktop BG i saw a while back on another forum. Without meaning to offend, bryce isnt exactly the most complex of tools. None of those images were really made by you they were more so slight adjustments of stock images made by professionals. The scene does look good but im sorry but i feel as though using programs such as Bryce, Poser and DAZstudio is simply taking credit from other peoples work. If you want to impress me, make those pictures in CAD. (don't take too much offence, i havn't had any coffee all morning and im just ranting a bit) Black flat
