Tip.It Times - 7th November 2010 (Writing Contest Winners!)
Ok, we get it, there are about 5 of you regulars who don't "waste their time" reading our fictional pieces. There is no need to remind us about it every week we post one. :wall: I'm pretty sure there's a lot more than 5 people who skip the fictionals. Don't kid yourselves now ;) As for the DG Article: I completely agree, and I was genuinely surprised when I found out that f2p worlds still had the members doors. Another example of Jagex having poor communication and consistency.

You realize you're playing an MMORPG right? Hint: Break down the first three letters. If you refuse to play with other people, just stick to single player games.

Wow, didn't expect the end floors to come out this quickly.

Possible Draynor Village Update
They finally made it so that you don't have to run around all the buildings to reach the other side? Lol, it's about time. Interested to see what kind of graphics the new Draynor is gonna get. (Falador next please!)

Jagex's new bot punishment: Level resetting
This. If Jagex was serious about botting they would limit the grinding in the game as much as possible. Obviously, the subscription money means more to them.

If you could bring back one thing from the past what would it be?
Agreed. You pretty much explained my feelings to the letter. One of the reasons why i'm looking forward to Stellar Dawn is to see what Jagex can do with an MMO that has high planning and production values right off the bat.

My goodness, this is a completely different game...
I insult people because I don't tolerate morons. I don't care if i'm not nice, i'm not trying to make friends on a Runescape message board. Being politically correct might get you far in life, but on the internet it's truth vs truth. If people aren't going to give the respect of fact-checking their material, i'm not going to give the respect of being nice. At the end of the day, no one really cares anyway. If this community took debate and discussion as seriously as I do (and some other forum members that I appreciate), then we wouldn't be seeing so many idiotic posts in the first place.

Flaming
Too bad every time a dumb poster is called out, you have admins and users defending them for having a "right" to their opinion (as if anyone had ever disputed that).
-
My goodness, this is a completely different game...
Yes, you did need that, because you said stupid [cabbage] without fact-checking and now you're trying to say that it was a dignified opinion that deserved respect. What a joke. I didn't respond to anyone else in this thread for a reason. Every new update is "unheard of". That's why its NEW. Your argument makes no sense, please stop trying. Great point, your intellect is astounding. *Sigh* Message boards need an IQ test during registration.

I don't think you know what a troll is. A troll purposely provokes argument and outrage by making obviously false claims and assertions. They have no desire to "fit in" to a community. "Flaming" is when you make a heated, personal insult.

Stop [bleep]ing using WoW as an example when you've never played it. First of all, my 80 Shaman has 22,483 HP right now. If I do less than 7k damage-per-second i'm considered a scrub. Ya, definitely sounds like Runescape to me. Second, raids in WoW are nothing like Dungeoneering. Dungeoneering is classic dungeon crawling (Diablo, Torchlight, etc), while WoW has large, static raids that focus on long, epic boss battles - theres no resources, no usage of skills, no exploration, no puzzles, etc. The fact that you think Dungoneering even remotely resembles WoW is hilarious, and the fact that you don't even know Dungeoneering's true inspiration shows your ignorance and lack of gaming knowledge in general. Too many kids like you get away with publishing falsehoods that ultimately get accepted as truth because either no one here has played WoW or the ones who have are too shy to speak up. Stop posting on a forum if you cant be bothered to fact-check what you type. This isn't a chatroom. Stop treating this like your toilet, you can't just spew your feces and not expect to be accountable for it. If you're not gonna have respect for Jagex then at least have respect for yourself. Don't present yourself as an ignoramus.

The Dungeoneering grouping system was not a success for the reasons posted in this thread and the article itself. It's not very user friendly and obvious, yet it also doesn't allow for in-depth customization and control. Therefore, you have a system that isn't simple and isn't deep - bad on both sides. Jagex obviously knows this though, and they have said that a simple, universal grouping system will be released in the future. Honestly, matchmaking is rarely good for most type of games. If you have a simple yet robust party system to use, then hand-picking through survey and communication is obviously going to be the best option. For something like Dungeoneering, matchmaking should not even be available, unless you have really high-tech algorithms that match players based on playstyle and skill (which I doubt Jagex would be willing to spend the time and resources on).

LOL. Another kid who has obviously never played WoW. Runescape couldn't be more different from World of Warcraft if it tried. Even if you were joking (which I doubt), the sad truth is that most of the RS Community would agree with you. Definitely. Jagex continues to tweak the game to make it more accessible and user friendly, and new content is of very high quality - Dungeoneering especially. Although major storylines haven't been touched in a while, new quests are very playable, and from a technical standpoint the game is becoming more robust by the month (new graphics, new sound effects, engine updates, etc). The core gameplay remains the same, however.

If you could bring back one thing from the past what would it be?
tbh free trade is more realistic then automatic dropping coming back. That would make things too easy If dropping is the only thing making a skill hard i think its the skill that needs fixing. I couldn't agree more. I've been saying the exact same sentence for years, but neither Jagex nor the Runescape community will admit that it's poor game design to make a skill "difficult" simply by annoying the player and making it inconvenient to drop materials.

Runescape on xkcd
Agreed. Uhh no. Those games have their own section on the map.

Runescape on xkcd
Runescape isn't an underdog. RS is already the second most popular MMO after World of Warcraft. This is all about perception, not statistical data.
-
Runescape on xkcd
Farmland = primitive / agricultural / undeveloped. Basically reflects what the PC community thinks of the game. As always, the Runescape community is oblivious as to how they are perceived, mostly because the Runescape community only plays Runescape when they aren't playing crappy console games. It's not reflecting actual size. While Runescape actually has a very large population - as Golvellius said, it's "social commentary in comical map form."

18-Oct-2010 - Partying is Such Sweet Sorrow (Halloween 2010)
Ummm... I dont think you remember what the old sound effects were like. They seem "out of place" because Runescape has never had real sound effects. Therefore, no matter what the effect, it would have been "out of place."

New sounds are too suggestive!
wait this isnt the rsof? Judging by the immaturity and lack of reason in this thread (specifically the OP), I think this might be a copypasta from RSOF.

18-Oct-2010 - Partying is Such Sweet Sorrow (Halloween 2010)
New sounds are surprisingly good, community needs to stop being immature about the female sounds. (Most MMO's females sound exactly like this, it's not like a grunt of pain can sound any different). Cows were an amazing improvement from the awful synthesized sound effects they used to have. It's going to be great when all of the sound effects get converted... now if only music was higher quality.

DevBlog - The Big Homepage Update
Umm, the old websites looked really, really bad. Time to look at some screenshots without your nostalgia-tinted glasses. Why you hatin' on nostalgia? It's awesome. Because i've been playing since '03 yet I can realize when something is [cabbage]. The old websites were plain ugly.

Is RuneScape filling a void?
The good thing about Runescape's gameplay is that you can read a book during most of it, as it's usually clicking on different things to grind. Therefore, you get the best of both worlds.
