Protect Item in EoC?
You can, except in high risk wilderness worlds.

Games of chance now against 07 rules.
Or they buy it from a gold farmer. I've had parents contact me through my website with stories about how their kid either stole their credit card, or tried to, to purchase RS gold so they could continue gambling it with clans after they got cleaned out. Given that so many gambling clans were selling gold, they were probably buying their own gold back. The only positive aspect that comes out of it is that they've identified an addiction very early on in the child's life and can get them treated for it before it becomes a problem. Gambling is an addiction, it is a disorder. Like any other impulse-control disorder, it doesn't manifest because the person is "stupid," and it doesn't go away just because you ask it to, and it certainly doesn't justify someone taking advantage of the addict. It must be monitored for the rest of the addict's life because, regardless of what steps they take to rehabilitate, the impulse will never go away and the addict can fall right back into their habit at any point. And shame on you for thinking that "stupid" people are open season to be taken advantage of. Any person who was raised halfway decently would tell you that a person doesn't have it coming because they are "stupid" or trusting of others.

18-March-2013: Dealing with games of chance
Its a video game. You're on private property, you follow the rules of the property owner. It is that black and white.

You have the freedom to choose to follow the rules or be banned.

Let's debate my boredom. Or we could go and throw rocks at a dumpster.

I thought you were calling RuneScape kindergarten, in which case I disagree with your conclusion that it is boring.

On the contrary, reporting people for advertising gambling clans can be a very good time.

Terrorist Player Moderators and Runescape's Mafia
I'd rather you be permanently banned for contributing to the gambling cancer that is ruining this game, but I'll take perpetual mutes if you can't learn your lesson.

Poll #1 now live
Here's a guy who wasn't playing in 2007. A lot of members pk'ed with f2p rules because they preferred it. And your bit about complaining isn't a point, considering Jagex set up oldscape with the explicit instruction that players would be allowed to vote on further content updates to the game, with those updates tailored based on feedback in the forums. But you thought the server was a dumb idea, so really nothing here concerns you anyway.

Wilderness Ditch?
Except for the fact that the pop up physically STOPS your character from moving 10 STEPS BEFORE you even reach the wilderness. Nope. There was a lure I distinctly remember back in 2007 where your character would continue running despite the popup.
-
Wilderness Ditch?
Good to see the "blame the victim" community never left. Of course you conveniently forget that the wilderness popup box often didn't stop the person from entering the wilderness, in fact it wound up several times being a detriment to the victim of a luring attempt because it prevented them from being able to properly move until the window went away, allowing them to be bound and dogpiled while helpless. I also remember a string of exploits where players could force a player following them to run forward into the wilderness, thus killing them. This coffee I'm drinking is chilled. Wrong again.

What's wrong with playing RuneScape, honestly?
As a matter of fact, economists are very interested in MMOs because collecting data is much easier in that context and it's a pretty good way to get closer to ceteris paribus conditions. I know Valve hired Yanis Varoufakis for this. A friend of mine used his knowledge of economics he gained from RuneScape to play the stock market. He does quite well for himself, although he stopped not because the money wasn't that great but because he got bored doing it.

RuneScape can be very educational. People have talked in the past about learning conversational English through playing RuneScape, the economy is a great way to learn supply/demand economics (and with the Grand Exchange, you could argue, giving tips on how to play the actual stock market), and how to interact with other people. As for how people are focusing on the OP, it's basically because the premise of his argument started off with how RuneScape wasn't a bad thing, followed up with a laundry list of how badly RuneScape was an unhealthy detriment on his life.
-
What Runescape videos attract you?
None. RuneScape is one of those games that is insanely boring to watch others play. Unless you want to start up a retsuprae where you make fun of other's lets plays, but that might not be enough to make them interesting.
-
What's wrong with playing RuneScape, honestly?
Clearly you've never seen two men have sex. Only thing the OP has proven is how unhealthy addiction is, and that he is certifiably insane and has zero basic understanding of the world outside of his house.

Yes it is. You do not own the account, nor do you own the items on it. Selling the virtual items on your account is intellectual property theft because you have no ownership of it. No it's an understanding that you can believe all you want that players should have the right to do whatever they want in the game, ultimately this is Jagex's game and they set the rules. Don't like it? There's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out.
-
Wilderness Ditch?
Removing it would only be a detriment. I remember back in 2007 before the ditch, just trying to sell stuff on the forums was a pain in the arse because every other guy was a wannbe lurer. The less time I have to spend dealing with chucklenuts private messaging me "I'll buy ur whip, meet me north of Edgeville," the better.

Jagex, Zynga, Blizzard, and a few other developers have successfully won lawsuits against gold farmers. The opinion of one lawyer means nothing against actual legal precedent. No, it's not "just a game." It's a business, one that real people work real hours in order to feed their real families. Jagex have said for a very long time, as I've already said, that they don't like gambling and that they would be implementing updates to get rid of not only the gambling methods but the casino operators. It's a simple case of these people were playing with fire, despite being repeatedly warned that something would be done if they got out of hand, and now they got burned. They have no one to blame but their own egos. Then find another game, because like or not that's not how it works here. That is why it's called a warning shot. Judging by the response to the RSOF thread, bans will be coming next.
