  1. I've been looking into that as well, I'll be e-mailing him when I get back from school today. Heh and I'll only be missed in rs, I intend on haunting the rants board here for the rest of eternity
  2. I've quit runescape. I am now playing another game called eve-online (along with a couple of my friends who were converted to it from wow) and I'm paying 15$ a month for it (and I've still yet to set foot in a members world :P ) In case I ever decide to come back I'm going to keep my mask (sorry guys no drop party :P ) I'll still be here fairly often, and I will show up in runescape every once in a while (currently trying to track down rai because someone wanted to take some screenies of the old rants board regulars), mainly saying goodbye to friends who aren't tipiters. Why I'm quitting: Well there are a couple resons, one being my clan: On feb 6th of last year I joined a clan called the Holy White Council. It was my first real clan and I made several friends. We didn't have many members (and it was fairly rare for new ones to show up) so we all got to know each other fairly well. Eventually the clan was disbanded, but one of the members decided to make a new clan, so not much changed there. Then that clan was also disbanded. At this point rs started going downhill for me. See, one of the things I enjoyed most about rs was the weekly meeting my clan had. That was my motivation to try and level up, as we'd each talk about what we'd achieved that week. It was also a chance to meet up with what had soon become my closest group of rs friends. After the second clan disbanded most of them rarely logged on, and rs became less and less enjoyable. At that point I tried to find a new clan, and I think I've gone through 6 since July. But it wasn't the same. These weren't my friends, and I just couldn't enjoy myself with them like I could with the HWC (and later on the UC). Reason 2:The monotony Click, click, click, click etc. At one point I had goals that were fairly easy to achieve (compared to the ones I'd set for myself at this point). 85 mining, owning a rare, getting 43 prayer etc. Now however (also partially because I no longer have anyone to talk to about it on a weekly basis) every level I gain seems meaningless. It's just pointless clicking. Reason 3: EVE This was the straw that broke the camel's back. Nicer people, better graphics, bigger world, better clan support, better market system, better gameplay... The list goes on. A friend introduced me to eve like 3 weeks ago, and not a day has gone by where I've spent less then 3 hours on this game :P (if anyone else here plays it feel free to send me an eve-mail, my game name is cambarus) I needed something to replace runesdcape before I could actually quit it, and now I've found it. Anyway, I made a rant where I announced that I'd quit, but practically no one saw it, so I figured I'd post here.
  3. Tradeable rares: Pumpkins and eggs:3/10 These serve no holiday purpose. They are ONLY useful as rares, but since they do help curb inflation and whatnot I'm giving them a 3. Santas:7/10 Oh how I wish I still had my santa hat. They look awesome, and like eggs and pumpkins help with inflation. Not only that, but unlike edible rares they're something that you can actually wear. At this point they're so expensive that they're pretty much always impressive, and needn't sit in a bank like edible rares. Green mask:9/10 If someone gave me a phat right now, I'd sell it and buy a mask set (or however many I could afford with the cash) I like to range and NOTHING looks quite as good on me as my green mask and dhide. See also what I wrote about the santa (minus the whole wishing I still had it thing :P) Blue mask:6/10 Same reasons as the santa and green mask, exept it'd look better on a mage. I'm no mage so it gets a slightly lower rating then the santa. Red mask:6/10 Same as blue, except it'd only look good in p2p (IMO). It could be worn with zammy, but I don't like zammy :P Party hats: Red/white/yellow/green:8/10 Amazing wealth symbol, and they match the god armors (with the exception of yellow, but it looks like an actual crown so that automatically qualifies it as being cool) purple:5/10 Doesn't go with anything, only useful as a sign of wealth blue:5/10 Doesn't look good with mage robes, doesn't look good period. Were it not the most expensive item in the game it'd be getting a 3. Christmas cracker:5/10 No real purpose, but it is pretty cool that some people actually kept the crackers rather then oppening them. Non tradeable rares: Bunny ears:1/10 I don't like them, I think they're ugly. Just my oppinion. Scythe:7/10 This was an exellent drop, I soooooooooo wish I'd been there to get it. YoYo: 3/10 Don't like this one, don't know why. Rubber chicken:10/10 The only 10/10 holiday item. The chicken dance is monstrously amusing, and you can slap people with it. I'd really hoped as I did the halloween event that I'd be able to use the ghostbuster thing to spray people... oh well :( Zombie head: 0/10 I got this on my pure, and thought it to be so stupid I didn't even bother getting it on my main. Hats and scarves:1/10 Not much goes well with these, and there are too many things to be worn on the head as it is (cough allthewearablerares cough) Scarves just seem too out of place in runescape, regardless of what you wear to go with it. Puppet:5/10 Moderately entertaining, mainly only fun when used with the egg ring Egg ring:7/10 Not only is this one fun, but it fits well with the easter theme. Clan meetings were fun when we could all come as eggs  Skelle suit:7/10 Very halloweeny, though it acts as a constant reminder that I don't have a scythe Pumpkin head:2/10 We have too many holiday items to put on our heads.
  4. Not sure which one's older, but they were both back when my combat was lvl 62. Heh the first one I took because I didn't want to write down the info my friend had given me, but that pic is what got me started on merchanting, which eventually got me my mask.
  5. I have always preferred duke's articles to others  As always, it was an exellent read.
  6. When you start seeing quotes like this: and and and
  7. WE HAVE JELLY BEANS!?! Why wasn't I informed? :P Welcome to tip.it
  8. Oo a raffle! I'm in, rsn:121dragon121 Edit: I'm F2P, sorry I hadn't checked back on this page since you included that as part of the entry thingymawhat I think I had 50 posts before I even left the rants board. :P Anyway, win or lose I'm gonna say thank you, it's nice to see generous people on rs (as well as here on tipit :) )
  9. I'd buy a ton if death and air runes and fire blast for mage xp.
  10. If memory serves the jadex thing was started when someone wrote a rant several months ago about how jagex is out to get him, but he misspelled jagex and wrote jadex. Ever since anything even remotely jagex-conspiracy oriented has merited the use of "jadex". Anyway, if my rs character knew I was watching him, he'd probably do poses for the sexy hunk of man sitting at the comp. :P
  11. I've noticed that as well. I think maybe rs may have stopped being the cool game among the 10-year-olds \ and they're trying to add more to the game to bring them back, because yes, even f2p can generate revenue if enough people show up on each server.
  12. I tried out the arrows. I hit 10's with then on rapid. That puts them in the same league as iron arrows. I went to lumby w1, and was amazed to see that I was nowhere near the highest level there (and I'm lvl 87) I'm about to go see if I can buy the training arrows from the range shop, I'd prefer that since i like the look of the new bow enough to train with it
  13. Personally I prefer green masks. I don't have mine because of it's monetary value, I keep it because I like it. I used to have a santa, but I decided that the mask was much nicer, so the santa was sold in order to purchase it. Had I really wanted to (and if I really wanted to now) I could merchant/mine rune until I had enough cash to cover the gap between green and blue, however out of all the rares the green mask is my favorite (though were I a p2per it'd probably be red, as I wouldn't have my rs guy living in green dhide). As far as prices go, I have something of a theory on how that works (I'm no expert, so this may be way off): Around halloween, and even a bit earlier, masks seem to come almost to the price of santas. I believe this is caused mainly by 2 things: 1)People trying to buy santas in order to sell them come christmas 2)People trying to sell masks, convinced that people will snap them up as halloween is just around the corner Actually I wouldn't be even remotely surprised if the price gap between masks and santas grew immensely come christmas (with santas being at the bottom) as the supply shoots up from long term (that phrase used lightly) merchants flooding the market with santas, while the same types of people buy masks, convinced that the price will go up come halloween, repeating the cycle.
  14. Lol I thought someone had been on my tipit account... I looked at the list of topics I've posted in, saw this one, and was positive that I'd never posted in it... The moral of the story is: don't change the title of a topic or you might give zubeedoo a heart attack :P
  15. I myself do not believe in karma. If I'm going to do something nice for someone, it's because I'm a nice person, not because I think I'll eventually get something out of it.
  16. I took one look at your title, prepared myself to start one of my 2-page rant-inside-a-rants and found...this... Please don't confuse rares and holiday items. Though it is true that rares are holiday drops, not all holiday drops are rares. The term rare in rs refers to the tradeable holiday drops only. Let me put it this way: If jagex made it so that you didn't have to be on for a certain day (though it is now a WEEK, more then enough time to get on rs if you really wanted to) in order to get the item, the people who actually come at that time to get it would be annoyed, just as you are now. This is almost exactly like p2p vs f2p. The f2pers want more stuff. The p2pers don't think that it would be fair to give it to them. People who miss holiday drops want them. The people who didn't think that this woudn't be fair. In both cases, it wouldn't actually hurt the more privileged side to let the less-privileged have what they want. However, they're not wrong for thinking that they shouldn't get it. As it stands holiday drops are there for the people who are in to rs enough to showup to collect them. Were my comp not working, I'd use a friend's to get to rs for the drop. Failing that, I'd head over to the public library (as I know people who use it to play). Then again, that's just me. If you can't be bothered to get on to rs for a whole whopping week, then you shouldn't blame jagex for not giving you the holiday drops. They did give it to you, you just weren't there to take it. Your fault, not theirs.
  17. Find someone trying to buy their first rare (preferrably a santa) Offer to sell it to them. Decline the trade, then give it for free. NO ONE will appreciate your act of generosity as much as someone who's been working their butts off to get the very thing you'd be giving them.
  18. Heh striker yours was the first name I looked up when I read that announcement about the mass unbanning :P IMO most games shouldn't have perm bans at all. It should be like 4 months tops. If a scammer gets banned, he'll just make a new account and start all over. 4 months later he won't even remember that he had an old account. Ditto for a bot user. The ones really getting hurt by the perm bans are the ones who either made an honest mistake or who're the victims of a mistake at jagex' end. Just like pure ess, the only ones being hurt by perm bans are the legit players.
  19. If they improved the way the scythe, I'd take that. Otherwise I'd take the phat (so add me to the list of phat votes). Not so much for the money (I'd not sell it anyway), but because I like the way they look
  20. Then what the hell are you arguing? The only argument I've seen from you is that it would lessen the desire to scam (which I will deal with in a moment). Well, removing the gp would also lessen the desire to scam, so why don't we do that while we're at it? I honestly don't care what you think of rares. To each his own. Unless, of course, his own affects the way that others play. Yet your statement totally misinterprets what I said: No, you're not going to stop scammers. This scourge will continue as long as the game exists. If you remember my tip.it times article a few weeks ago, I explored some possible reasons why people scam. For example: The point is, you take away the stuff they want, you take away one of the motivations to scam. Rares only constitutes a small portion of the things they want, but because rares are comparitively so expensive, the damage and hurt caused by such a scam is greater. If I lose 10k or 100k to scam, I can go on because I know I can replace it in a matter of hours. However, if I lose 500m to a scam, I might get a little emotional about it because I've probably worked my tail off for a couple months to get that much. Pickpockets don't pickpocket to get a porche. Period. As I said before, the effect this would have on scammers would be minimal. I myself have never even SEEN a rare-scammer, as most people who scam don't have/wouldn't risk losing that much money were they to be banned. Yes, there would be some people who'd no longer be able to scam, but you'd get just as many scammers stopped were you to send in a jmod (-the gold crown) into world 1 for an hour or so. Also, you have some of the most interesting "logic" I've ever seen. You say the solution, meant to stop people from being scammed out of hundreds of millions of gp, is to steal from them hundreds of millions of gp. "Hey, nice car, but you might get it into an accident and ruin it, so I guess I'll just have to take it." I use this quote as a seque into a "project" I have been working on. It's a new skill idea that introduces the ability to create tradeble "Player-made unique items" Unique in that they are "signed" by the player who made them. I'll have this up and posted in the suggestions forum later today. (Unfortunately, due to the length and detail of the suggestion, I actually had to set up a special web page and post it there!) I look forward to your comments about this idea. - Sligo DII had signed items, they sucked. The idea behind player made unique items isn't the same as current rares. I'll be sure to check out your suggestion, but it'll be a cold day in hell before jagex tries to replace rares with player made unique items...
  21. Ah yes, the ever-popular "it's just a game" argument... Let me explain something: If you went back and read my first post, you'd notice that I said I myself wouldn't be all that bothered were rares made untradeable (as I never intend on selling mine). The game doesn't upset me, it's the people that play it. Anyone who says that rares should be removed from the game, but can't provide a logical reason for doing so, is a jerk. (since they basically want to ruin the game for others, for no real reason) You said you wanted rares removed, and then did not provide a reason for it, other then the fact that it's not something you like to do (and as such would not change the fun you get out of the game in any way were it to be removed). This is what makes me mad, not the thought of rares being removed, but that people would be so self centered to actually suggest it. Now, jagex has said that rares did not turn out as intended, but actually they are what make rs unique. Most games have discontinued items, but unlike runescape, they have many different types of these items. Jagex dropped the ball not once, but twice, in that they stopped making tradeable rares, insuring that the ones that already existed would be that much more valuable. As far as what they'll do goes, don't expect much. Were jagex going to remove rares from the game, they would have done so a long time ago. The supply is slowly decreasing though, so don't get too worried about that. Even still, you yourself stated that rares are not your cup of tea, and as such they do not affect you, so you have NO buisness suggesting that the "benifits" would outweigh the consequences of removing them from the game.
  22. First let's deal with the facts you argued: You claim that removing them from the game would drastically change scammers. This is 100% bull. Do you really think some guy offering to trim some newb's full black is really thinking that it'll get him a phat? Scammers, for the most part, work on a smaller scale. The only type of scammer that would cease to exist is the type that scams rares, but if you think that justifies removing them from the game then you must also think that all items/gp should be removed, as any scammer could simply move to a different item. Rares are no more worthless then anything else in runescape. I like rares because I like rares. You like stats because you like stats. I decided (for a while) not to think about stats because I wanted a rare, you avoid rares because you'd rather work on your stats. How is having better stats any better (or even different) from having expensive items? To me, having a rare is fun. To you, having high stats is fun. You ignored this last time, so I'll make it bigger: WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TELL ME HOW TO HAVE FUN? also, WHAT MAKES YOUR FUN BETTER THEN MINE? See, I get mad whenever I see posts about why rares "need" to be removed. I have NEVER,EVER seen one actual logical argument behind any of them. It's just random jerks who decide that I (and all rare owners) need to have fun THEIR way. I don't force you not to train stats, why would you try to force me not to buy rares? Look me up in the highscores. You'll notice that my range is at lvl 77, and is my second highest skill. I used to HATE range, it was one of my lowest skills (second only to rc). I started ranging again after I bought my mask and ya know what? I enjoyed it! Just wearing the mask while ranging made it fun. I've kept my mask not to show off, not as an investment, but because I LIKE IT. Why the hell would you want to ruin the game for people like me? You wouldn't be gaining anything out of it. Quite frankly I now strongly dislike you. You want rares removed because you don't see what's so fun about them, not realizing that something that would not, in any way, affect you would ruin the game for others.
  23. This is probably gonna take a while, but now I REALLY feel the need to throw my 2 cents in here: Dealing with sligo's first post: I half agree on this, the market would not crash. However, prices of pretty much everything would skyrocket. Go back and read duke-freedom's article on rares (the most recent one). You'll notice that the value of rares exeeds 50% of the total gp in runescape. Let's say that there's 500bil gp in the game. And that there's 250bil worth of rares (numbers being made up to make a point) That would mean the remaining items have a total worth of 250bil. That means, the prices of items can only go so high, because the total worth of items on the market cannot exeed the total amount of cash (which is how the value of a gp can change). If you (at least) double the amount of money that all the non rares in rs are worth, they will, for the most part, shoot up in price. All the items in the game put together=all thegp in the game. You simply can't change this. Oo here's one of my favorite things to argue. Rs is essentially centered around 3 things:people, skills and gp. Take away any one of these three things and the game would suck. We'll ignore the people side of this, as you can't really compare it to the other 2. Skills and money are virtually inter-changeable. Skills make you money, money gets you skills. The fact that the 2 exist, and are equally important, is what allows people to play the game they enjoy without having to work on their less-then-favorite skills. A phat is just as hard(if not harder ) to get then 99 in a skill. WHY THE HELL WOULD JAGEX TAKE THAT AWAY FROM PEOPLE? Forcing rares to become untradeable would be like erasing the skills from the people with the top 1000 total lvls in the game. And for what? Rares hurt you no more then zezima's total lvl hurts me. (which is not at all) These people (for the most part) earned their rares. They deserve what they have, much like you deserve your skills. Now THIS is laughable. Tell me something, what exactly ARE the "benifits" of removing rares? Let's look shall we? Bad:people who've put as much time and effort into their banks as the best people in rs have put into their accounts have everything taken from them. (ignoring other things, I'm only dealing with what people would lose) Good:er...you'd be happy? I fail to see how rares affect you. At no point is your fun lessened by someone having a rare. I've yet to see even one argument made where someone actually says WHY rares are a bad thing. "Oh well people get money for doing nothing" And that hurts you how? If you're not in the rares market, then removing it isn't going to get you anything. You'll still NOT be making money without doing anything. Jealousy is not a pretty thing. "He has something I don't so it should be taken away from him" He's not hurting you with it, so get over it. Here's what I don't get; why are rares worthless? See, if rares are worthless, then so is everything else in the game. People who are anti-rare are usually pro-skills, so correct me if you also think that skills and other items in rs are useless (in which case you shouldn't even be here). Rares are often labelled as "useless" because they give no stats. Tell me, what purpose do stats serve? You level up because you enjoy doing so. Many keep their rares because they like them. Some are in it for gp, but what exactly is wrong with that? Who the hell are you to tell someone else how to have fun? Billy, Bobby and Timmy all play runescape. Billy plays for skills, Bobby likes to merchant, and Timmy collects rares. Billy now decides that what Timmy is doing is "useless", so he decides to tell jagex to remove Timmy's fun from the game. Not because it's affecting Billy in any negative way, but because he just doesn't agree with what Timmy thinks is fun. Billy is a self-centered jerk. As for a warning prior to making rares untradeable: You'd still be taking millions, if not billions of gp from the rares owners, and would be removing their way of having fun from the game.Do you really not see anything wrong with this? What are rare merchants doing to hurt you? You're looking to ruin the game for a bunch of people, with no real reason... *places dunce cap on barihawk's head* (havn't done that in quite a while :P) You claim not to be offending rare owners, only to call them idiots moments later... Also, since when are phats worth 3gp? From the general store? If rare owners are idiots then so is everyone else in rs because really, how many people do YOU know who were smart enough to only pay 60k for their whips? I'd be more then happy to buy all of your valuable items for the general store price, and we'll see who the real idiot is... Also, you say that you didn't really like rares. Well, that's YOUR oppinion. I like rares, but I don't like combat. Let's remove combat from the game! (using this as an example since you have high combat stats) Again, who the hell are you to tell me how to have fun? Just because you don't find an aspect of the game fun doesn't mean that others don't, and it's not hurting you, so why remove it? That's all I got for now, though there's a good chance I'll be back some time in the future :P
