Non-Ulserated-Kinetic-Eggs To be honest I think the non-ulserated part of it is over powered, but firing eggs in a catapult is perfectly fine.

Creative writing block thanks to the vastness of things. I have diverted my attentions to writing a galactic history instead. Have come up with a general plan and am in the process of writing that in full. Basically the Sentient Universe 'began' 3 million years ago, humanity evolved and broken into space in 2050, were killed off in 2202 by a massive Sentient Computer known as 'Mechos'. The only surviving humans were on Teferren. In late 3850 an undisclosed race found another undisclosed race's cache, which contained a DNA profile for a minimally sentient species that evolved on Earth, the Cro Magnon. This DNA was used to create a new race of servents, but, while on a merchant mission through the Sol Nebula, residual DNA activated dormant DNA within the Cro Magnons, 'Flash-Evolving' them. The New Humans overpowered the crew of the ship and filled the cargohold with Nebula. They then flew to the capital system of the undisclosed spieces and liberally sprayed the capital planet with Nebula. There was not enough for total conversion, but enough to overpower the peaceful race that lived there. Standing on the race, which were now slaves themselves, the humans grasped at their second chance, conquering a swath of space under the United Federation of Worlds. The UFW fell apart in and around 4000 AD, resulting in scattered colonies. As part of the break up a number of the aliens escaped and the rest were exterminated. Ect, ect.

How can you blame something so innocent looking. Crete begins herding and breeding rats BEFORE they are infected by plague. An arsnal of rats are kept and then the Holy Order of the Banhammer declares that all other rats of infidels, and national rat killing week is begun, as much as 5% of the budget is spent per year on rat catchers, with 15% set aside as a bonus to be split between all the rat catchers after the first year that there are no rats anywhere on the island, except the arsnal. Extermination is expected to take three or four years. Cretian Shepard Cats are being bred to.

Sorry for delays, Mum's work in full swing, so I am obviously busy assisting her. Have completed the matter gate map, though is secret  and have begun composing the history of the universe. Will work on Dusty, Paul and the Zygotes tommorow during breaks. [hide] Tefarrens(Doom) Physiology: Tefarrens are, save for some minor genetic modifications, first evolution Humans, theoretically the last in existence. The physiological abnormality, when compared with DNA fragments recovered from the Sol Nebula, is an absences of any of the gene sequences that normally control eye colour. Records from the Tefarren Databases indicate that, after contact was lost with Sol in Earth Calandar year 2200, the Tefarren base remained the last bastion of the Human Empire until 2292, when the colony was beset by an unknown entity of unimaginable psionic power. Over 90% of the colony's inhabitance was killed within the first year. Records indicate that those with high psionic potentials were the most vunerable, while those with high psionic defences were least vunerable. Over the next two millenia the Tefarren were slowly culled as the alien being grew in power until plateauing in the early four thousands. The true reason for this is debated, had the alien had its fill, or was the psionic defences of the surviours too much for the alien to handle? Whatever the case the alien had reduced the billion strong colony to a mere nine hundred thousand, and to a pre-industrial level of technology. However no one was sure how long the alien would be away for, or indeed if the alien was truely gone, and thus over the next twenty years the Tefarrens bootstrapped themselves into space, completing their giant flotilla in 4120. Upon completion the Tefarrens put themselves in a cryogenic fudge and pointed the ship into deep space. The exact time spent in fudge is unknown, the lower estimate is 40,000 years, the upper estimate is closer to one million years. Psychology: In standard Psionic tests the results for the Tefarren show two extremes, the first is a lack of any active psionic abilities, even basic ESP associated with predicting probability. The second is a resistance to all but the most intense psionic stimuli. Both of these attributes have been traced to the evolution of an anti-psi organ. Outside of these Psychological anomolies the Tefarren have a somewhat backward view of the universe, having a harder time understanding scientific concepts. Genetic engineering has kept the Tefarrens' immune system, agility and strength roughly inline with current norms. Advantages: Human: Double Morale bonus from Civil Technologies Anti-Psi: Immune to all but the most Intense Psionics, and even then the Psionics used only have a basic influence. Race 3.0: Historical research speed is doubled. Ruins are processed faster. Genetic Modification: Small Combat Bonus. Nomadic: No morale loss for abandoning planets. City Flotilla: Any ship can found an outpost of size equal to its crew, including in crash landings. Ancient Race: Extra Advanced Start Research points(Amount to be worked out) Disadvantages: Organic: Morale Penalty for planets not of type M and/or the capital planet's type. Anti-Psi: Cannot use Psionics in any capacity. Race 3.0: Research speed is slowed by 10% Genetic Modification: Growth rate is reduced. Low population count: Population costs double Advanced Start Points. Nomadic: Colonies over one hundred million people cost double in maintainance. Psi-Phobia: Morale is negatively effected by any diplomacy with Psionic races. Biological Isolation: Teferran are more at risk from bioweapons. [/hide]

Happy July the 4th!
The war was fought against taxation, not against injusticies of civil rights, that was the civil war... Also, the Bill of Rights was published after such 'crimes' were commited, and thus any breach cannot be legally taken as breaches of the law. The Declaration of Independence was a treasonous document(as per the laws prevailing at the time), so that could not be legally taken as breaches of the law either. Furthermore, under British law taxation without represenation was perfectly legal, and continues to occur to this day, albeit only for those below the age of 18, while the age that you can start paying tax is around 13. I am not sure about the American laws of taxation, but I am reasonably sure that women worked before they were given the right to vote in the 20th century. I am not trying to detract from the good that has been done since the war of Independence, but I think that the forth of July should only be celebrated for what it is... One group of British people killing another group of British people. Vae Victis

Basically impossible. I can think of a way to do it because I know how it all fits together, but it would require a tonne of research and a few leaps of logic. Easier way would be to create harvesting module and wormhole and feed power from the harvesting module, through the zero-width wormhole, to wherever it is needed. Which has the same basic effect, but would require a fair amount of power to run, and a hell of alot of research. You make it sound so simple. I would probably go with a Starship about 3 Solar masses in size and just use the star as a Fusion Core for the laser, hitting two birds with one stone. Also, if the diamond ever cracked it could be replaced fairly easily. Course the research of Heat Sinks, gravity resistant armour, heat dissipators, solar manipulation, the gathering of 3 stars worth of mateial to build the ship and then actual building may slow that down a little. The death star laser research project would also take some time.

Yup. If you build Zero-Point Energy Harvesting Modules and Wormholes to connect the energy lines together, you could produce masses of energy. Or if you pure researched Zero-Point Energy Harvesting or something you could produces masses of power from one cluster. You can't move them. But there are various researchable dangers to harvesting them. @Lucy, if only there was a way of extracting the planet from the star, building a planet sized mounting system and power generator, and then moving the whole thing across space without getting a proton torpedo in your exaust vent.

Rogue Planets: Planets without a Star Sub-Spacial Zones: Areas where other space(Sub-space, Hyper-Space, whatever) have spilled into our space Voids: Space that bleeds energy out of the surroundings. Cosmic Strings: 1 Dimentional fissures in space, exhibiting a 2D gravational field Dark Matter Asteroids: Asteroids that are attracted to Anti-Matter and are invisible to most scanners. Zero-Point Clusters: Areas of limitless, though marginal energy. Like a battery that would last forever but was only capable of powering an LED.

Supergiants tend to have shorter lifespans than dwarfs, since they burn hotter and faster. Hence why 76% of stars in the real universe are red and less than half the size of our sun. There is a bunch of sciencey stuff to do with the Chandrasekhar limit, Carbon Fusion and other stuff that I will avoid going into because it is fairly dull to anyone who isn't interested. Pulstars, Magnetars, Wormholes, Rogue Planets, Nebulaes, Blackholes, Sub-Spacial Zones, Voids, Cosmic Strings, Solar Nursaries, Comets, Dark Matter Asteroids, Zero-Point Clusters and other stuff will all be included, though will not be on the map because it would be overloaded...plus searching/accidently running into that stuff will be considerably more entertaining than pointing a ship at a destination. All the stars on the map are Between type O and M though.

So...If I understand this correctly, your system is: Lumosity, Size, Number of Planets. Which would either mean names were only revealed after discovery, or people could just bypass the systems with low planet counts. And you still have not addressed any of the other concerns mentioned. Not to mention that Y-10-10-X is pretty unlikely, since Yellow stars are meant to be fairly small and less luminous...so really you are looking at maybe 3 or 4 numbers per colour, which would mean between 9 and 14 stars of each. Which can then lead to between 48 and 144 different designations, based on the number of planet(Which, again would have likely ranges, finding twenty planets orbiting a red dwarf seems very unlikely, just as one planet orbiting a Blue Supergiant seems very unlikey)...but there would be repeats, which makes the system wholely worthless. At present I can see no benefit to this system. It takes longer, its harder to remember and is more complicated to use. If you want to do a sample case on four or five sectors then please do and maybe it will look better than I think it will.

Hegemony Argument Thread
Yes....So Y-1-1-5 is in one system and Y-1-1-6 is in another system on the other side of the universe. That is just gonna lead to confusion. Not to mention the existance of between 3 and 12 thousand planets, so 750 designations wouldn't help... Furthermore it doesn't address the five or six hours of me assigning designations based on a 10 by 10 pixal image, over taxing my brain with something needlessly complicated. Nor does it help people in any manner Nor is it rememberable It is, however, easily mistypable, overly numberly and relatively ugly to look at.

@Rocco: Yeah, sure, I will just use the Formis as an NPC race somewhere. @Mather: I send ships from Y-2-8-3 to Y-2-8-3... Lumosity and size would have to be on a sliding scale between 1 and 10 - else you would get B-325-324 - Which would mean less than 100 of each star colour to avoid renames....it would also complicate things because people would argue that Y-5-5 needs a bonus over Y-5-4. I am probably gonna go with(probably too many so some may be cut) [hide] Altair Andromeda Antares Antlia Apis Apus Aquapois Aquarius Aquila Ara Aranea Arcturis Argo Aries Auriga Australe Australis Austrinus Bellatrix Berenices Betelgeuse Bootes Borealis Brahe Bufo Caeli Caelum Camelopardalis Cancer Canes Canis Canopus Capella Capricornus Carina Cassiopeia Centaurus Cepheus Cerberus Ceti Cetus Chamaelon Chernkov Circinus Columba Coma Copernicus Corona Corvus Crater Crux Cygnus Delphinus Deneb Dorado Draco Dubhe Equuuleus Eridanus Felis Formalhaut Fornax Gallus Gemini Gorno Groombridge Grus Hercules Hirudo Horilogium Hydra Hydrus Hyperion Illuminati Indi Indus Jordanus Kepler Klystron Kruger Lacaille Lacerta Lalanda Leo Leonis Lepus Libra Librae Lilium Limax Lipi Lumbridge Lupus Luyten Lyncis Lynx Lyra Malus Manis Mensa Merak Metis Microscorpium Mira Mizar Monoceros Muralis Musca Navis Noctua Norma Octans Olber Ophiuchus Orion Patella Pavo Pegasus Perseus Phoenix Phylax Pictor Pinna Pisces Pollux Procyon Ptolemae Puppis Pyxis Quadrans Ramus Raynet Regulus Reticulum Rigel Robur Sagitta Sagittarius Scorpia Scorpius Sculptor Scuti Scutum Serpens Sextans Solarium Tatus Telescorpium Terebellum Testudo Tigris Triangulum Tucana Ursa Vega Vela Velorum Vespa Virgo Volans Volantis Vulpecula Wolf Zeeman [/hide]

Orbital bombardment will, in small amounts, reduce the amount of resource on a planet, making the planet less useful. In larger amounts it will reduce the habitability of a planet, meaning less population, making the planet less useful again, as well as spawning higher risk from virus/plague/other effect. Not to mention E2S missles/lasers will have a significant advantange. So, unless someone wants total destruction and has built ships capable of taking massive amounts of damage, orbitable bombardment will not be the 'best' way of taking control of a planet. Though obvouisly blowing up various cities from space will force more primative cultures to surrender or negotiate at least. More advanced cultures will recieve a bonus on building E2S weapons. On the flipside, each planet will need an army and defences built. Still working on a good space combat system. Oh, constellations are pretty useful, rather than twenty of thirty difficult to remember names for your own little empire, plus planet names, not to mention the almost 600 systems there are, totaling between 3 and 12 thousand planets...rather than that there are only around 100-150 constellations, and your empire will probably be spread over less than 5 of them. Alpha, Beta and Gamma Lyra is considerably easier than remembering Xi Lipticum, Shan Trogan and Dendexicoft. Easier to type too... But if it hurts your eyes the standard map will be the standard map, and the constellation map is an auxillary, and I will just use it for system namings. Race wise: So physically weak to offset mental prowess. I think that is ok, though I will need to work on it in more detail when I am less exausted
