I'm not sure where you got this information, but it is quite wrong. XviD is comparable in speed to DivX, and often produces smaller files. I don't use DivX because of their questionable ethics: Personal experiance.. iu had a 1 ghz chip that could run the SAME file encoded in DIVX normal speed... however this SAME file encoded in XVID had many.. i mean MANY blips artifacts and picture skips... it was not till i got a 1.8ghz chip that i could play Xvid in there decfault codec.. but shortly after that i installed divx 5.X and it played Xvid without Xvid installed... and IT RAN AS FAST AS NORMAL DIVX? so.. is Xvid better? honestly no... i don't archive to CD anymore so i don't have to fit to a 350/45 minutes format for most hour long TV shows.... 400megs is fine to get the SAME quality.. :) have fun

don't know man try reinstalling windows media player? (might be a fault there) also don't use Xvid (if you can help it) it takes longer to encode and uses more CPU to use there built in Codec (and divx decodes it with less cpu used to decode)

Its not all about the ghz, you dont need insanely high clock speeds to get performance like Intel has been showing for years. With the 3000+, 3200+, ect, what amd have been trying to say is that despite lower clock speeds, you can expect the same performance from a 3000+ athlon as what you would get in a 3ghz pentium 4. It might have lower clock speeds, but it can still offer as good or better performance than its Intel equivelant. If any of this is wrong, misleading or other what ever, feel free to correct me. i agree.. its about the operations per second not the speed... belive it or not your brain runs on a 14 mhz speed clock... but its the massive processing power of billions of the brain celsl that makes it able to work :)

no we are not going to format your drive unless you have other viruses (not going into that just telling oyu how to fix the boot sector virus here) ok is your computer hard drive a fat32 or a ntfs drive? if its fat 32 find a friend that has a CLEAN comptuer... make a boot disk that bood disk put the format program on (format.com if i remember) move the write protect tab on the disk so your computer can't write to it reboot your computer and boot with the disk you made you should be in DOS... now type format c: /mbr this will erase your boot record and rewrite it with the disks and allow it to have a clean one.. reboot and your done

i will say this though... linux's main problem to being a adoption is that its still too geeky to be mainstream it still does not have all the api calls.... it needs to feel like windows out of the box... no multiple desktops.. no power user setup Also they need to get together and settle on one MAJOR kernel update ever 5 years... make patches and the like but make one MAJOR version of linux and you can have all the flavors you want in the background but have ONE JUST ONE "linux" install.. this would be a base code setup for the [wagon]es (like most of us are) and have a basic update system setup make it easy to use easy to manage but have the power user options just put in the back for those that want to learn ..... it needs to be simple boot up and run ........... i think its almost there.. its just lacking something that can make it easy to adopt

WINE an run just about anything that can run on windows 98 wich is just about any program out there.. wine stands for Wine Is Not a Emulator it takes the program calls that the programs would use for windows and interprestes them to linux calls.. almsot no extra cpu or processing needed
