That happens to me all the time. It's one of the reasons I haven't changed my avatar in three years. You might think I disappeared. :shock: I don't know what my reputation is in real life. The words I hear are "smart" and "genuine." That's not much of a reputation, but I don't know what else people think of me. :?

i don't set major goals, i don't go online for social interaction...it's just fun in my free time. not all people take it too seriously. your second paragraph is much more applicable to most of the RS population. Yeah, the second paragraph describes most adult rs players, and that's why I don't make fun of adult rs players, and I don't think there's any age limit. I know they're not taking it too seriously. :D And since we're playing with new smileys... :^o #-o :-w :-#

I am becoming more and more against role playing games as I grow older. I played runescape for a while before deciding that it was a pretty cheap substitute for real life. When someone goes online for social interaction and has digital goals that they take as seriously as real-life pursuits, I think that's pretty sad. For an adolescent going through a typical identity crisis, I can understand it, but for an older person, I would think it sad if someone who is supposed to have a mature life is just living an online life. That said, that's not why everyone plays. Many adults have fine jobs, fine families, and they play runescape (or other MMORPGs) purely recreationally. Runescape is not their life; it's a relaxation. I have absolutely no problem with that. It's just another hobby for their free time, like fishing or model building or something. Sounds good to me. And of course, I plan on playing first person shooters or N64 super smash brothers well into middle age. :P Bottom line: no age limit, as long as the game you play is not your life. That's okay as a teenager, not as a functioning adult.

That's a very good point. Although Lincoln was not the genius history's made him out to be. He was actually a very poor leader, and would probably have been forgotten if not for the war and the asassination. I disagree with all of that. :D First, President Bush did get a challenge. September 11th and all that is challenging stuff. However, I would say almost every other American president would have done a better job in his position. It's not really an argument I'm interested in pursuing, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Second, Lincoln was one of the single most extraordinary men America has been lucky enough to elect. For his cabinet, he deliberately selected several people that he regularly disagreed with. For most Presidents, this would be an unworkable situation. But by force of character, intelligence, and charisma, he unified his office and then the nation. There are other examples of his genius that I could provide if you want, but I'm getting off-topic. Anyway, cool topic. I am fairly liberal, but I consider myself an independent. I'm not with or against any political party. BTW, I'm American, so when I argue politics, assume I'm arguing American politics. As for religion, I have to say I'm pretty much an atheist. I don't practice atheism or anything; I just don't believe that there is a God. This does not make me a better or worse person than a devout religious man. Since the title of this thread is "Politics and Religion," I think it mandatory that someone bring up the issue of seperation of church and state. So, allow me to be the first to voice my opinion: I believe that the seperation of church and state is one of the fundamental and vital principles of democracy. As an abstract principle, it is easy to defend. Government must be seperate from religion or else we will end up with laws that force us to believe something we don't want to. This violates our freedom of religion - obviously unthinkable. Most people agree with me to this point. So, democracy demands seperation of church and state. Therefore, using religious justification for political arguments is not acceptable in democracy. For example, if you are talking about banning gay marriage, you need a better reason than "because God condemns homosexuality." If you ban homosexual marriage because the Christian God says homosexuality is wrong, then you are in effect enforcing a religious belief on the entire country. I am not Christian; I do not believe that homosexuality is wrong; my freedom cannot be restricted by the Christian God, therefore you cannot ban gay marriage just because God says its wrong. You can still ban gay marriage, you just need good enough secular (non-religious) reasons. Maybe you think that homosexual couples damage society somehow. Maybe they're more prone to crime, or they can't raise healthy children. Those would be good reasons to ban homosexual marriage. They're not true, but hypothetically, they could be good reasons. This principle of complete seperation of church and state applies to all political arguments. I don't care if you are in favor of the death penalty or not, so long as you don't justify your opinion with the Bible or God. Making laws with religious justification is a violation of my Constitutional right to freedom of religion. There's my opinion. Argue if you want, I have a fair amount of free time at the moment. :D

Like others have said, Brian Regan and Jim Carrey are awesome. I'm not a huge fan of Chris Rock. Don't really like his style for some reason :? And why has no one yet mentioned JERRY SEINFELD? I have a live recording of him doing stand-up comedy... it's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. :lol:

Well, I wouldn't say I'm against anything it stands for, but you're right. The plot is a little thin. I personally think that the music makes up for it, though, especially live. Some lines, some harmonies... incredible. I would say it's better than Wicked for just that reason, but I've only listened to the Wicked soundtrack a couple of times (my sister saw it live, but I was working :evil: ), so I don't really know.

I just did a quick search and didn't find anything like this subject, so here goes. How many people like RENT the musical, whether you've seen the movie, seen the show live, or just listened to the soundtrack? I recently went to see it live in Boston, and it was awesome. I didn't really like Mimi's performance, but everyone else did an incredible job, especially Roger, Mark, and Collins. Comments? Favorite characters or favorite songs?

I have to say, I agree. The author is just a little too self-righteous about all this. Yeah, he lost his sidekick. Obviously he has a right to have it back. But there is no reason whatsoever for him to make the issue public on the internet. His statement to the thieves that he "just wanted you to learn what's right" is directly contradicted by his desire to bring them "GLOBAL humiliation" (his own words). He's just grandstanding, making a point to be as virtuous and pious as he can be. But in fact he's just pursuing petty, small-minded revenge. Building himself up by tearing others down. He's too self-righteous and self-important. But then again, look at me. I'm taking time out of my day to criticize someone I've never met :lol: :oops:

Well, if everyone really outright hates you, that kind of defeats the point of being beautiful, doesn't it? So I'd rather be ugly and friends with everyone. But really, why make the choice when I'm already beautiful and everyone loves me? I'm modest, too. Really quite a great guy. :wink:

Oh man... that's hilarious. :lol: I don't think that we can call any death technically "death by old age." As you get older, you are more prone to medical conditions and heart failure. Passing away peacefully in your sleep could be a stroke or heart attack or something. Even preprogrammed cell death just causes other problems which can't really be called simply "old age."

I'm an old fan. Trogdor and guitar (SBemails) are my favorites. One of my other favorites, although I don't really know why, is that e-mail that asks if Strongbad has a car that is pimpED oUT? Then homestar comes in to display his new "twicked out" propeller beanie. I nearly died the first time I saw homestar demonstrating his "hydwaulics" :lol:

If we're talking about Disney's animation movies, I would say Robin Hood and The Lion King. Pocahontas was pretty good, too. Just don't watch the sequel :? Other than animated films, whoever said that Remember the Titans is the best movie of all time hit the nail right on the head. I love that movie :D
