  1. I guess you mean from the Editorial Panel as opposed to old-style "The Editor" Times. A couple of those were so controversial that Andrew Gower personally posted a response on TIF. :D A January 2007 Times article on Emergent Gameplay viewtopic.php?p=4175691#p4175691 (and again a few posts down.) Note that several of his claims to emergent game play (drop parties and wilderness) have been removed since then, lol, although clan wars in theory does help replace one. Gower had a valid point about balance though - the WOW forums are *constantly* full of balance issues, and WOW updates to classes (for balancing) always cause a huge outcry. Shamans were once so powerful it was ludicrous. Then Rogues were outrageous, etc. RS is FAR more balanced (I think rangers and mages have a harder time training, but that may just be me personally.) I also don't think the Durial thing could have been avoided. The alignment of events was kind of like a train wreck - several things had to happen together. There's just no way to test every combination before a release. Construction was a HUGE release, YEARS in the making, and it was amazingly awesome. I do feel bad for the party hat guy. But I also remember reading that another guy started stripping as soon as he got ice blocked, dropping every bit of his armour, whip and all, so that his phat would be protected. Fast thinking on his part. Basically nobody can hire millions of teens to completely exercise software - it's just not possible. I don't know how they decide who is an abuser and who is not. Basically I agree with Ravenkana and the Jan 2007 article about control: sometimes Jagex exercises their need for it a bit too harshly.
  2. We take pictures in game, in our inventory, with the brightness turned all the way up. Then crop them to 40x40, then remove the bank background and make it transparent. When you submit a pic here, we assume that you have done likewise. While any image in the game is still (always) the property of Jagex, going to the above effort is not the same as lifting an image off their website. Their website is copyrighted - it would be like copying a story out of someone's book and turning it in as your own work at school. Fansites exist only as long as the original property owner tolerates them. As the very first Runescape fansite, Tip.It has always tried to maintain good relations with Jagex. We want to stay on their good side. ;)
  3. user MEDICALOMI posted that the shortcut to the smoke dungeon is actually 2 way. Laikrob confirms. Needs to be changed on the graphic. http://tip.it/runescape/?page=pollnivne ... ungeon.htm
  4. It's ok to notify us that Jagex has updated a pic - but if you post their pic here, we might assume it was your own pic. We cannot use pics straight off the Jagex website, and we can't credit you for them, either. Feel free to post pictures that you take yourself in game. Thanks though for letting us know about the pic change - I was just at the Legends shop yesterday and thought I was imagining it lol!
  5. wow interesting! if you could visit again and get a screenie of it that would be awesome!! [crew]
  6. thanks for letting us know, our tech folks are looking into this. sorry for the inconvenience.
  7. Yours is better than the old guide, I'll green light this to be added to ours. [hide=existing guide text]Difficulty level: Easy Start location: Go to Rimmington and talk to Hetty. She tells you that she needs some items. Become one with your darker side. Tap into your hidden depths of magical potential by making a potion with the help of Hetty, the Rimmington witch. NPC: Hetty Walkthrough Hide/Show: * Burnt meat: Go kill a giant rat, a bear, or a cow and take the meat. There are giant rats to the east, so kill one for its meat then go back to Rimmington and cook it on the range. If it didn't burn, use the cooked meat on a range again and it should burn. * Eye of Newt: Go to Port Sarim and buy one from the Magic Shop. * Onion: Go north of Rimmington and you should you see an onion farm. Pick an onion. * Rat's Tail: There are some small rats around RuneScape. Kill one and take the tail. * Hetty: Bring all the items to her and she tells you to drink from the cauldron. Note: You need to start this quest before you can get the rat's tail. Reward: * 325 magic exp[/hide]
  8. I hate training range. (1) it's interminably slow and (2) there weren't enough safe spots *before* Jagex started removing them. If not for Fubai's guide, I would never range at all. It feels easier to acquire food (fishing) to supplement melee than it is to mine ore, smith bolt tips and fletch arrows for the ~25% loss rate. Ranger armour doesn't protect well, and the whole point of ranging is to attack from a distance. How does that work if the monster walks right up to you? A Jagex poll showed that some people dislike training magic due to the expense of consumables (runes). Both rangers and mages need safe spots. If they don't want to neglect these parts of the combat triangle, Jagex needs to provide a reasonable amount of places to train them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Disclaimer: This post represents only my personal opinions and not Tip.It *** I don't want to keep this conflict going, but ... some people have stated that it's only TET and staff that object to opinions. You may not be perceiving the big picture. The people objecting to the pointless and unproductive criticism HAVE VOLUNTEERED and given up their own personal RL time to entertain you, or to provide events, or to keep this forum and website going, and have gotten complaints and crap for it, lol. If you don't like the writing styles seen in the Times - don't read it. It's already hard to find writers for the Times, and you lot persecuting them doesn't make it better. People write for a while and then quit. It's *hard* to write an article - try it yourself and see. Submit your own article and find out what it's like to put up with armchair quarterbacks who don't take risks themselves. Would you be happier if the Times feature was discontinued? It's not my department in any way - I'm speaking as a user only. But frankly I don't know why the involved staff hasn't gotten tired of putting up with this kind of "cabbage". Nobody asked for critiques of the article. The intent is to discuss Runescape - that's the purpose of our General forum. Maybe in the Varrock Library they want literary critiques (I don't know), but I see no productive purpose for them here. Discuss the subject of the article - safe spots and Jagex. That's where the focus should be. *** Disclaimer: This post represents only my personal opinions and not Tip.It ***
  9. I am intrigued by your info. I myself fought Koschei 16 times (died at the end of the 4th round lol). My question here is - is this what you actually DID in the quest? or just what "You should also be able to" do? cos that makes a difference - Jagex may have a restriction and there's no way to know until/unless someone tries it while doing the quest. Please post exactly what you did successfully during the quest, we welcome this information. (And for me - did you manage to kill him on the 4th round? lol)
  10. sorry, same as the other post of quest pics ... these pics total over 600Kb and are just too big to use in a quest guide. If you'd like to do it, I *would* rather have a small map pic that shows the Ectofuntus and where Pirate Pete is in relation to it. That would be great.
  11. When the quest was released, every one had different chat options and thus there was no way to track what worked. I don't think we can add these unless someone doing the quest after you can confirm them. Thanks tho for wanting to help.
  12. sorry for not responding felix. I LOVE the sheep herder map, it's awesome! If you can make some adjustments I'd like to use it on the site. 1 - make the non-map part (where the lettering will be) black. 2 - make the lettering much smaller, like smaller than the East Ardougne words. 3 - write www.Tip.It at the bottom of the black area 4 - remove your name, we will credit you in the quest guide The high def pics are pretty, but the file size gets kind of large. I'm not sure about the long term policy, but for now we aren't replacing quest pictures. Thanks though for thinking of it - they do look great. I love, Love, LOVE maps that show where things are, I think they are the best addition to any guide. Make more of them (after we work this one out) and I will happily use them!!
  13. Moving topic from Website Discussion to Forum Discussion since it's about forums.
  14. We need pics of Grimy Ardrigal, Rogue's purse, Sito foil, Snake weed, and Volencia moss. These herbs are unlocked during the Jungle Potion quest, and info on how to find them is included in that guide. http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2quest_id=38 They can be collected after the quest. 40x40 transparent GIFs would be ideal. 40x40 transparent PNGs would be second best, we can convert them. PNGs of the items would be third best, we can work from them. Thanks to anyone who can help!
  15. Did a major run through the items db today and these were fixed along with many others. Thanks to everyone for letting us know about this missing flags. Please make a new post if you find more so we can make it work!!
  16. That's perfect lizzywizzy! Beethoven if you can give us the Name and the Examine for your items that would be awesome. We also still need names and examines on clown items (we have the hat only) and ringmaster items (again we have the hat only). However we do have all of the pictures so it's just text that we need to finish these!
  17. We try not to work from the KB, they can and do make mistakes. If you have the item yourself, please check the stats in game and let us know - that would be great!!
  18. Yeah somebody grabbed me in IRC about this (probably Hell_S_Judge) and we worked on it a bit. Here's what I have: My problem is I want to mark off that corner of the minimap to indicate the boundaries of Shilo Village is (the white stripe at the bottom of the pic is just there to remind me about it, lol.) I couldn't come up with a great way to do that. Image specialists welcome to tweak this and come up with something - just try to keep the image crisp.
  19. Please try again and let us know if you are still experiencing the problem.
  20. Lol on 7 posts. Thanks for all of the inputs. I wish that I'd known ahead of time that you were going to be doing a bunch of quests though, lol! Our problem with quest submissions is that Crewbies can't go back and re-do the quest to confirm your information. So, as stated in the sticky, we need screenshots to confirm whatever info you are asking us to add. (Obviously that doesn't apply for things like charter boats etc ... but I don't think you can use a charter to Oo'glog until you've completed the quest. Lots of tricky things like that.) And yes you are correct about the mining site info being wrong. We need a mapper to fix that.
  21. We already have pictures of all of the new circus clothing rewards, and they have been uploaded to the website: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?page= ... tm#rewards What we NEED is Names and Examines for each item. If you can provide these, that would be great. Then we can get an items Crewbie to finish loading them into the items database.
  22. wereta - the pics are gorgeous - the problem is that loading hi detail pictures to a guide would make it very large. Vhellcat - I was not aware of that change (nor the torch change wereta mentioned). Hopefully a crewbie will get to this soon. Thanks for submitting the info and ESPECIALLY the proof pics - that's AWESOME!
  23. [hide=fixed]if you can post for us the next time you get the request to pay - that would be awesome. I've never had to pay since finishing the quest. Wonder if it's dependent on clicking the obstacle or a guard instead? Anyway - let us know.[/hide]
  24. thanks, yeah that was my bad . I've adjusted the wording and credited you all. If you find new corrections please feel free to start a new topic anytime!
