Airplane on a treadmill
I think you are being sarcastic, but at the end there it kind of sounds like you weren't. Ignore this next part if you were being sarcastic. A person walking forward on a treadmill doesn't go anywhere, just like if you were driving a car on a treadmill, it wouldn't go anywhere. Airplanes are different though, their jets are their means of movement. The jets don't move with relation to the ground, they move with relation to the air.

superheroes
Should just be a topic over comic books in general, I have been meaning to make one for quite a long time now. Marvel>DC, and I am assuming the OP feels the same way, since both characters he chose are Marvel. Favourite male super-hero would be Jaime Madrox, aka Multiple Man. He is currently the leader of X-Factor. There are different versions of him, some of which he is evil (like in the movie X-Men 3). I like the current version in X-Factor. Favourite female is a super-villain, Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch (Magneto's daughter). House of M/Decimation was awesome, showed how much she could do.

Most pointless game you ever played
Also I think there is something weird where you can't just hold get something to hold down the gas button for you, it curves slightly right so you have to be there the whole time.

Anyone watch the new LOST(spoiler)?
Possible they are the descendants, but that means something with the child births killing both the child and the mother is different now. Richard not aging is just Richard looking the same now as he did 20 years ago. A stretch, but I don't think there is anything special about it. If next week's is Charlie's then the finale is Jack's.

Nah, I don't think they will kill him off.

Anyone watch the new LOST(spoiler)?
I've been much happier with season 3 than I was with season 2. Not a lot has been answered as you said, but I think they are doing better lately. Only two more episodes to go this season, I know one is centered on Jack, but I don't know about the other one.

Anyone watch the new LOST(spoiler)?
Neither can I, the search function sucks (sometimes, it randomly works for me). I guess we can just use this thread for the end of this season (two more episodes I think, maybe just one). The Jacob part totally creeped me out. Much like "The Others" and "The Monster" in season 1, we had no idea what they were and it was pretty scary. That is what is kind of making me worried about this Jacob thing, it is going to be anti-climatic. The Monster is weird and kind of cool, but not scary, and "The Others" weren't nearly as scary and crazy as they were portrayed in season 1. Jacob.

Also there is already a thread about season 3 of Lost.

What movie(s) did you last see?
The New Guy - Generic high school movie. Some funny parts. Coffee and Cigarettes - Different, and OK. Not great, but by the end I was enjoying it a decent amount. Empire Records - I enjoyed it somewhat. Can be pretty funny, the humour is a little different. There are some pretty stupid parts (not stupid-funny) though.

Wats your real life inventory?
The U.S. doesn't have a knife law. It is delegated to the states, and every state is different.

You know, if everyone just completely ignored it rather than complain about it, it wouldn't have as much news time.

Airplane on a treadmill
The person on a treadmill, or even a car if you want an example with wheels, doesn't have any other force moving them forward besides for the contact with the treadmill. A plane has engines, the wheels make no difference at all.

Wats your real life inventory?
Depends where you are and what kind of knife.

Airplane on a treadmill
The answer is: it's a loaded question. If you use the logic that I used above your post, then you'd have to assume the wheel and conveyor can go infinite speeds. I'm not sure, I just know it's a loaded question and can be interpeted in a few ways. In my head, it takes off. Yep, in mine it does too. I can think of the question as being regarded three different ways, one it will take off no matter what, the next it will almost definitely take off, and the last it won't take off (but the treadmill is going at incredible [10,000mph+ speeds]). It really screwed up my mind, all the sudden going from "lol of course it won't take off" to "wow, the last 100 times I looked at this and brushed the question aside I could have been wrong?" Just was a weird feeling.

Airplane on a treadmill
If the velocity of the plane is zero, the plane will not lift off.

Airplane on a treadmill
Oh come on, not another one... Indy, it just doesn't work. It can work. I was in the exact same position as you the first 100 times I saw this topic. Couldn't believe anyone actually thinks the plane would take off. Now I am on the fence, sometimes it would take off and sometimes it wouldn't. It really depends on the interpretation of the question, thus there is no right answer.

Airplane on a treadmill
You'll have to excuse me, but after trying to explain it over 2 pages... But your explanation is wrong, the plane will take off.

Airplane on a treadmill
This is a pretty common question asked, and I usually just ignore it. It seemed so obvious that the answer is no, it wouldn't take off. Now it seems so obvious the answer is it is possible, it depends entirely on how much friction is in the wheels. A stationary plane on a treadmill moving 50mph will move with the treadmill at 50 mph. The plane turns on its engines, and it will appear as if it is stationary, and the treadmill is just spinning the wheels. Throttle up, and it will be moving against the treadmill. The treadmill at this point makes little difference how fast it is going, depending on the friction of the planes wheels. The plane will move forward.

Help!!
I don't like not being able to post again after reporting a post, I can't make a snarky comment after I report it. I've spilled many an items on the keyboard, eventually it will work itself out. A lot of my keys used to stick together (from lemonade you sick minded people) and eventually it just wore itself down.

Favorite opening scenes.
I was thinking DD, but the fact that it's my favourite movie may have skewed my view, so I didn't mention it.

Photographic Proof of a Black Hole?
I don't think you used the word "crap," I was just giving a short summary of your post. Also, I wasn't try to insult you as much as point out my feelings on the subject.

Favorite opening scenes.
For some reason I am having trouble remembering what the open scene of a lot of movies are  . If I am remembering it right, Emir Kusturica's Underground has a pretty fun opening scene. Also Daan you have mentioned that movie before, right? I recognize the name, I think you mentioned it in a discussion about long camera shots. Had it on my movies to watch list, but I accidentally deleted the list, and can't remember too many of the movies on it.
