  1. I have now deployed my troops to Svalbard, and have requested that they evac anybody who wishes to be evacuated, as I have plans for that island, which nobody will wish to stay for. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard Svalbard is part of Norway, sorry you can't have it. I already used it back in the first ten pages somewhere to hide my army during a revolution (if that was in continuity).
  2. Yep, Nopec is simply an economic agreement. Right now there are members from all over the world. Finland and Sweden have both signed a defense agreement with Norway, so we kind of have a Scandinavian thing going on. I'll see what they say, but I would really rather not give it a name since that implies it has power over us. It is simply an agreement to protect one another if any one of us is attacked.
  3. Yep, Denmark is open. Someone claimed it on the first page or two but never did anything else, so it is up for grabs. If you plan on conquering nations it might be a good idea to join the EC, but if you are a peaceful nation you can join a defensive pact with Norway, Sweden and Finland. The terms of the pact are that we will all go to war to defend any of the nations that are attacked. However, if one of the group decides to attack another nation Norway at least will automatically sever the alliance ties. Those are diplomatic agreements, as for economic agreements if you want to join Nopec as an oil producing nation you would be accepted. To sum it up: Nopec is an oil cartel to battle OPEC. OPEC's purpose is to keep oil prices low so people buy more, and are less likely to switch to alternative fuels. Nopec's purpose is to charge higher than market prices (OPEC prices), and steadily increase how much higher we go (currently 2%, increases by 2% every year) in order to sell less oil, at a higher cost. Right now because demand outstrips supply we will not be selling less oil, so we will make more money. However, people will see the need for alternative fuel, so our advantage will peak around 5 years from now. The 5 years after that oil revenue will shrink down to the level it would be at if we all followed OPEC pricing. After that it will shrink more (but there will always be a demand for oil, just not much for energy). So the benefits would be more money in the next 10 years (peaking at 5), plus you will be helping the environment. The cons are potentially less money than you would have got with all oil being OPEC pricing through these 10 years, but only after 10 years.
  4. I saw the trailer for this movie was all the way back in February and it has been available since then. You can tell viral advertising works though because most people have found out about it in the past few weeks when sites like digg started to have news about it.
  5. Yes! Timesplitters: Future Perfect to be exact.
  6. Won't you be needing that for yourself? Russia is the second biggest oil producer in the world, right behind Saudi Arabia. It produces much much more than it consumes. (produces 9.8 million barrels a day, consumes 2.9 million barrels a day)
  7. I love the Bioware RPGs :D . I actually will take my turn:
  8. The only rule I really thought of deals with war, and how to handle that when someone isn't there (work and sleep take up most of the hours of the day) Basically to expand on what rocco said, you can't conquer a nation that someone is controlling without them getting a chance to defend it. After a four day period of no response you can assume they probably aren't going to be responding, so I guess we can figure out some way to handle that. Also when taking control of your nation assume that it has what it has in real life, military, resource and government ect... Then you can spend your time getting it to how you want it. Entire systems of government/economics you can change quickly by just saying a revolution or something. You resources though are pretty much going to be what you have, you can just use them more wisely. Military takes time to build up, and a built up military costs money constantly, not just an initial investment.
  9. My country already runs on 99% hydroelectricity, in the real world. I didn't do that in one year of governing. I've actually tried to do as little as possible because according to some polls Norway is the best run country in the world, and in many specific polls it is in the top 5 or top 10. Best not to screw too much up. I am running out of things to do however though. So a few posts ago you "accidentally" mentioned something about a monster with tentacles I believe, I thought that was going to be announced today? Or is that tomorrow?
  10. FFFFUUUUU- Man, I was going to say that lol. I'm actually playing through NWN again now. :P I can't think of anything to post now, so you can have the turn if you want.
  11. Neverwinter Nights
  12. You import over 2 million barrels a day so Nopec wouldn't be good for you either. But you can still join if you want :D .
  13. I despise using controllers for FPS. The wiimote is OK. Give me mouse and keyboard any day.
  14. Nope, Nopec will cause oil to go up in price steadily. If oil stays cheap like it is now people will continue to use it until it runs out, with no regards to the environment. It is not beneficial if your country consumes more oil than it produces to join Nopec. Current demand of oil in the world is at 85 million barrels a day. Current production of oil in the world is at 82 million barrels a day. So some will have to pay the higher prices of Nopec oil (around 21% of all the oil at this point) because there are no alternatives. Steadily increasing prices will cause other forms of energy (which will be more environmentally friendly out of necessity) to be used, while making Nopec countries extra money for a few years before they come around. We will still make money on oil for a long, long time because of all the non energy uses of oil (plastic), just not as much as we could have because of getting people less dependent on it.
  15. Alright, Norway has a military alliance with Sweden and Finland now. This is purely defensive, if any of the members are aggressive then Norway will break the alliance with them. You two may want to work on an alliance between yourselves also, but through the transitive property you basically already have one :D . All will be accepted. Keep in mind that you would make more money in the long run selling oil at market prices with OPEC, since their prices are designed to keep the world dependent on oil. With Nopec our mission is to get the world off of oil eventually, through the sale of oil at higher than normal and steadily rising prices.
  16. Glad to hear that Sweden is allying with us. However I am going to have to decline putting forth money for the water based energy, seeing as how Norway has already perfected that before I came into power. As of 2009 99% of the electricity Norway uses is from hydroelectric sources. We would be willing to help fund the R&D for alternate fuel based transportation of any kind. Nopec countries (just a summary for those curious, in order of date joined) Norway Russia Venezuela Sweden Currently we can expect to make up to 2% more than market prices for oil this year, and gradually increase that amount by 2% every year. However in about 5 years I would expect that revenues would reach their highest, as around then more alternate solutions will be in play. So use your extra funding to build non oil based infrastructure fairly soon.
  17. Alright, are you joining an alliance and/or joining Nopec? Nopec is simply an oil cartel designed to wean the entire world off of oil. An alliance between us would simply be in case either of us are attacked, since it seems like the EC want's Finland I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted Sweden and Norway also. Awesome if you join both, they are both designed to promote peace and prosperity. So hedgehog, would Finland like to ally with Norway in a military defense scenario and/or join Nopec?
  18. Sorry hedgehog but Caromon already has Finland. Sweden is still open. There was a lot to catch up on in the past 8 pages, only a few things that Norway needs to deal with though. First up, I would like to form an alliance with Finland (Caromon) if he agrees, and I will be part of his peace initiative. If hedgehog would like to take another Scandinavian country (Sweden or Denmark) then I will extend an offer of alliance to him also. Terms of these alliances are just like in Civilization IV, if any of our countries are attacked we all go to war. However, if any of our countries decide to attack someone else then the alliance is broken automatically. Also, I welcome Venezuela to Nopec (not an acronym, so no need to capitalize it all). Now that Nopec consists of 3 major oil nations (Norway, Russia and Venezuela) we control 20% of the worlds oil production. I would now like to extend an invitation to all oil producing countries to join Nopec, regardless of size. I am specifically calling the US and Canada to join, since they are both large producers. The US being the third biggest producer but by far being the biggest consumer will have a lot to lose by joining, however if in this New World Order meeting coming up we pass environmental legislation you will have to cut down on oil consumption anyways.
  19. I already have Vikings, so I don't need any pirates. I guess my Vikings could use them for sport, test cutlasses vs war axes.
  20. Does that mean I get my Norwegian/African lion back? :D
  21. Okay, I wasn't sure if it was still the same situation. Works for me. Man, I'm probably gonna stay up all night watching this, because I know that if I don't, it'll be up to 30 pages in the morning. And I have stuff to do, at least on Tuesday. I'm assuming that everything is exactly as it is in real life unless said somewhere in this topic. Sadly I have to go to sleep in about 30 minutes and work tomorrow, so don't go too crazy overnight :D .
  22. Norway and Kristiansand Zoo will return one lion. Olympics are handled already by the Olympic committee, probably best just to leave that. However discussing issues of the world isn't a bad idea.
  23. You can definitely have one of them. Until further notice nobody is supposed to expand, we need to allow time for everyone who wants to join, to join. EDIT: Also either Lenticular and/or doom will have to say if you can join their SAR.
  24. Norway has the lowest :D .
  25. Japan was my third choice, after India and Norway. Mainly because of it's GDP (number 2 in the world after US) EDIT: This was open in another tab: Norway is not accepting alliances at this time.
