What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
Peronix replied to runescapeloser22's topic in Off-Topic
Playing Mass Effect 3 right now. -
This seems like a good way of coercing people into coming back every day in hopes of winning something they could never afford. Kind of like Neopets. I came back to that game every day for like a year after I stopped playing back in the day just in hopes of winning the 100m jackpot from test your strength.

I think what would be really fun is if all night mobs coordinated their efforts against the player. Like mobs forming squads, sending in creepers first, then swarming the base. Perhaps creepers and other mobs could even mount spiders to deal with tower dwelling adventurers? I don't know if I could do it, but I know it would take a lot of time and I've got waaay too many games to play right now. The creeper mod took me a few hours. There is something I could easily do to make the creepers even harder... currently they only aggro from 16 blocks away but I could easily change that to be as many blocks away as I wanted. Also I could make them detonate from more than 7 blocks away - but if I did that the ones in caves that can sense you would detonate themselves purely because they can't get at you. I suppose I could require them to be at or near the player's Y level. Bottom line vanilla survival isn't hard or interesting enough. I'm glad to see in the next release they're making zombies (and hopefully other mobs) less stupid. As in they can pathfind around walls. Should make things a tad more interesting. Hopefully creepers don't just wander around when you go in your house and close the door as that will make things problematic for my "stuck" routine.

The creeper thing? Already did. I didn't find it nearly as fun on normal survival. Just make your base underground. I can haz link? http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/959263-110-creepers-hate-you-ai/ Have fun getting blown to pieces. ;)

I have made myself genuinely afraid of creepers when I play Minecraft. I modified the creeper so that it would be able to sense you without having to see you, and they would also be able to explode you even though you're behind a wall. And if they get stuck and you're close enough to take any damage at all, they'll explode. So simple. Yet so effective. Here's the story. After making the mod I decide I'm going to do a flatland challenge. For those of you who don't know what that is - it's basically a challenge to survive on the superflat maps introduced in 1.1. The resources you have are basically whatever you can loot from villages. Here's the challenge's unique complication: superflat maps are essentially one layer of bedrock and three layers of dirt. That's it. So there are slimes freaking everywhere making your life difficult. Despite the grass very few animals spawn - just slimes. But the scary part for me is that you have no caves to hide in. You only have the villager's houses. The way I modified the creepers means that those won't protect me for shit. If a creeper happens along, it'll detect me, try to get near me and when it can't, make a big hole in the wall letting the slimes and all manner of other baddies in. Not only that, but most houses aren't lit very well so creepers can very well spawn inside the houses as well. So when I emerge from the tallest tower of the town church in the morning, I could just be walking along minding my business fighting off slimes, next thing I know the wall next to me gets blown apart. So there's constant hordes of slimes night and day, severe lack of resources feeling like a true struggle for survival, and to top it all off, suicide bombers that can go off when you least expect it. And I thought I would never find minecraft fun again.

JAGEX LIMITED v.IMPULSE SOFTWARE, ERIC SNELLMAN, and MARK SNELLMAN
Peronix replied to Mercifull's topic in General Discussion
*bot nuke* Finish them! *this* Brutality. Jagex wins! Epic win. Jagex has made plenty of fails in the past, but with this they've earned my respect. Now they just need to hire someone with a sense of humor to overhaul the game's many puntastic quests and we're golden. -
I solved the problem. The ONE thing I didn't try: someone said that AMD's stock fans put too much pressure on the CPU. So I unlocked and unhinged it, just let it rest on the CPU, then turned it on. I got a different beep code indicating no video card... so I plugged that in, and BAM, it passes POST. BRB going to electronics store to get an AM3 compatible fan to replace this crappy one.
-
I would think it's the mobo, except I've been reading through lots of threads on the internet about people with the exct same mobo and they RMA'd the mobo, sometimes multiple times, and found it was something else, like a bad CPU. That was the case on one particular thread where it was the exact same mobo and CPU, with the exact same lights coming on and it ended up being the CPU. So I can't rule that out just yet.
-
Well [bleep]. I've taken the motherboard out of the case, all I've got on the board is memory, CPU, and the headers from the case so I can turn it on, and of course the two power supplies. It's still not passing POST. The problem is it could either be the Motherboard or the CPU (very very much doubt it's the RAM). Which do I RMA? I wish I had another known working AMD CPU so I could properly test it.
-
I've checked and double checked everything on this guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-boot-video-problems Only thing I've yet to do is breadboard it. I guess that'll be my next step.
-
Nevermind on the GPU light thing, I forgot to plug the PCI-E cables back into the GPU after I reinstalled it the first time. Still have the exact same problem, just no more red light on the GPU. As for the mobo lights, there is no definitive guide in the manual explaining the lights. It just says "if an error is found, the LED next to the error device will continue lighting until the problem is solved". Nothing about number or sequence of blinks... Both CPU and memory models are specifically listed as compatible on the Motherboard's webpage. Even if the memory was initially incompatible, the manual says the MemOK button should set the motherboard to the safest possible settings to allow you to boot the PC and set the correct voltage settings in the BIOS.
-
Well I found this in the manual: one short beep (the usual beep I've heard on all my previous PCs booting up) means VGA detected, quick boot set to disabled, or no keyboard detected. Nothing saying that one beep means it passed POST, so it could very well have passed, IDK. There are no VGA or HDMI slots on the back of the mobo. I guess I could try connecting my old PC's VGA card, if that would help.
-
From what I can tell, no. But I think it would beep even without a properly installed display, wouldn't it?
-
I've got it working. Installing windows now. Thanks for the help. Mobo: Asus M4A89TD PRO Series CPU: AMD Phenom II Black Edition 1100T x6 GPU: Msi R6950 Twin Frozr II PSU: Corsair HX850w Memory: Patriot DDR3 8gb, two 4gb sticks 1600 MHz Case: Coolermaster HafX full tower The PC turns on, but it does not beep to indicate it passing POST and nothing appears on the screen. GPU, CPU and all case fans turn on. This specific motherboard has LEDs next to components. The one next to the CPU blinks twice, then the one near the memory blinks once, and that just repeats endlessly. Holding down the MEMOK button next to that LED causes the LED to blink a bunch of times for a while before it goes back to what it was doing previously and nothing happens, not even on reboot. There's also a red LED lit on my GPU... Tried reinstalling the memory, GPU, and CPU. Memory is in the slots recommended by the mobo's manual. With no memory installed, I get one long beep and two beeps - with one or two sticks installed, in any slot, no beeping at all. No error beeps when the GPU is not installed. Tried resetting CMOS. I made sure all power cords were correctly inserted on motherboard and GPU. No loose screws/wires anywhere. Worked on an insulated surface and I was grounded. BIOS version is 2001 so my CPU should be supported by the motherboard. As far as I can tell the memory should be compatible as I've seen people with the same memory/mobo combo. As for the GPU I can't figure out what the red LED means. If anyone could help that would be great because I'm running out of ideas as to what it could be. I hope none of the parts are DOA but it's possible I guess...

...You already get hundreds of hours of content with the original game, did you really expect that they would release every possible thing they'd want to do in one go? There's nothing wrong with planning to make DLCs from the get go, as long as the DLCs aren't chintzy pieces of garbage like Oblivion's horse armor or most of the shit EA touches. -

I'm a thief/assassin on my current playthough. The lvl 100 perk for pickpocket is friggin' hilarious. Remember that uptight mage in the theives guild quest line? Now currently walking around in his underwear. You can steal someone's clothes right off of them without them realizing it. How awesome is that. -

The forum post I got it from is here: http://forum.portingteam.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=9348 However since that forum requires registration to access that link I'll just link directly to the mediafire download for the cider port: http://forum.portingteam.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=9348 You actually need to install skyrim on a PC and then copy the contents of Skyrim's program files folder to the corresponding folder inside the package (right click -> show package contents on the executable). I found a torrent for mac using a different wrapper with the files already installed. That wrapper didn't work at all. I just moved the files to the cider wrapper. By the way windowed mode doesn't appear to work at all. Very unfortunate because every freeze means restarting the computer... Also I just realized that Skyrim's NPCs are just as stupid as Oblivion's. Maybe even stupider. You can actually pick up pots and put it on their heads and steal stuff right in front of them. If that doesn't work, just pick up the desired item, throw it into another room, and just quickly close the door and pick it up. Shopkeepers will actively be keeping an eye on you and follow you, but if you're fast enough it won't matter. Makes being a theif kind of boring. -

So the mac wrapper works rather well, except for the random freezing and a tad of lag... hopefully this windowed mode mod I found will work so I don't have to restart the damned computer after every freeze. (CMD+Q and CMD+TAB didn't work for shit). -

That's a great idea. Why didn't I think of that. Taking something from an unstable bipolar always ends well. Seriously last time I tried that the thing got broken in a fit of rage. And I made him do it, of course. Easier just to download it. -

Really quite livid at the moment. I bought Skyrim with my own damned money and my dad insists on playing it all day until three o clock in the [bleep]ing morning and asking me retarded questions even though he's farther into the game than me because he won't let my play my own [bleep]ing game. He's the kind of lazy [wagon] that everyone hates that constantly demands other people to do simple shit for him (including googling...) because his inferiority complex prevents him from trying to do anything himself without other people holding his [bleep]ing hand. A masterpiece like Skyrim is absolutely WASTED on someone like him... ...Anyway, DLing Skyrim for PC at them moment. There are a couple of ports for the mac as it turns out. Hopefully it won't be buggy as hell / run even slower than it does on the PS3. At least I'll have my mods... -

Just preordered for the PS3. Can't wait. (my PC is shot right now and no hope of getting another or fixing it anytime soon; by the time I can afford it Skyrim for PC will be a lot cheaper anyway) -
I'd prefer them spend more time on gameplay rather than graphics, or it might wind up like Final Fantasy. XIII was the biggest disgrace yet; zero exploration, minigames, or sidequests outside of "go here, kill this" missions. And it's really obvious why it's like that: extra content is expensive to make when you're going for lifelike graphics. In short better graphics = less content for the money. I'd rather have a healthy supply of content in a game than a pretty game that I will never again touch after one playthrough.

^ Exactly how I did it. I did underestimate how hard it would be myself. I'd say it's on par with double nomad. The latter probably takes more resources but it's much harder to die to nomad, especially if you soulsplit. Mind you it's not because RFD bosses are actually all that powerful, it's because of all of the -def handicaps and disallowing shields and body armor.
