The Wold Wide Web Consortium develops specifications, guidelines, software, and tools to lead the web to its full potential. They're the people who wrote the html specifications and who write guidelines for other web coding standards and also the people who run the markup validation service for checking the code on your page. Without them, there would be chaos (well, there's chaos anyway because MS don't really cooperate with them, but we've got hopes for IE7...)

I could never do these :-?

Hmm it's clearly not restricted to imageshack thumbnails as you can't see Merc's sig either... so can you see this: And can you see this? That's a thumbnail of a png image, and a regular png image. This is to test if it's just the jpg file format you're having trouble with, and also to see if your browser doesn't like the .th. bit of the image url.

Why does everyone say that Firefox is better than Opera?
Vape replied to runescape_rocks's topic in Tech and Computers
Just wondering, but why would you say that? (not meant to flame or anything, just curious) I like Internet Explorer because it is just there, easy to use, only takes 30 seconds to config it to how I want it on a new computer. I never got into all these extra bits and pieces people like ot add to their browsers. Thats why it is my favourite browser. Well well well. Very interesting. How long ago did you last try Firefox or Opera? (like, what versions?) -
Even if you were only chaning one file, all you do when you change the file extension is just that, change the file extension. Gif is a compressed image format. Changing the file extension does not compress the image, so you end up with the same filesize. Any decent image software will read the header information and tell you that the file extension is wrong.
-
Changing the file extension won't make any difference ;) You need to open it in an image editing program (irfanview is a possibility, google it) and go file -> save as and select "GIF".

It's RC3 :D Note: It doesn't say anything in the application about being called "RC3" because if no bugs are found in it, it will be released as 1.5. Fixes included are a couple of crash bugs and some bugs on apple's OS/2. Useragent is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Useragent is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4That's Firefox 1.5 beta 1. Since then there have been at least one other beta release, and RC1 and RC2 and now RC3. I believe there may have been a bug in that beta with software update which has been causing you not to get updates. I suggest you download the latest release candidate from the Firefox project page. Hopefully, after you've downloaded that you'll never have to download a complete 5 meg Firefox ever again, as the new software update downloads patches containing only the parts of the browser which have been changed :)

I'm not using Internet Explorer. I am using SBC Yahoo! DSL... But thanks for the explanation. I just might check it outSBC Yahoo! Browser is Internet Explorer, except Yahoo have "branded" it (like you brand cattle.) It works exactly like internet explorer, it just calls itself SBC Yahoo ;)

Firefox is an alternative web browser which is far superior to Internet Explorer (probably what you're using now.) It's faster, sleeker and easier to use. It's skinnable, has a bunch of extensions avaliable and is actively developed. It's open source and is more secure than Internet explorer because it doesn't support activeX (one of the most common ways spyware gets into people's PC's,) it isn't integrated into the operating system like IE so and also has an excellent history of patching any security bugs found in it (wheras Microsoft has been known to leave bugs for months without releasing patches.) All in all, I strongly suggest you download it and try it :) It's 100% free. Switching from IE to Firefox is easy, the installation takes seconds and it automatically imports your favorites and internet options :) If you don't like it (which I doubt) you can always uninstall and go back to using IE. Click my sig to go to the Firefox website - if you have any other questions regarding Firefox, feel free to PM me :)

Very good story :!: (Except I don't know how many new players would have p2p (he gave him a p2p amulet at the end.))

Try Control Panel -> Regional and Language options?

That is very odd. The only reason I can think of for it is that your browser does not support cookies and your browser is relying on session ID's to stay logged in. If you're using Firefox. Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies. Ensure "Allow sites to set cookies" is checked. If you're using IE. Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy. Ensure the slider is not set to "Block all cookies" or "high" Apart from that, when typing out long posts, it is always practical to hit ctrl + A (select all) and ctrl+c (copy) before you hit submit.

Why live and suffer when we are going to die anyways..
Vape replied to FishRFriends's topic in Off-Topic
Because of all the pleasure in life? Or if you want to... because our bodies are biologically built to reproduce, and therefore we must? -
I agree with Eeeeediot, there are people who are prepared to stoop to the lowest leverls in real life, so there are people who are prepared to do the same on the internet. As long as Tip.it continues to provide quality Runescape tips, people will keep coming back, even if they are tempted by some flashy site that claims it has 2 billion users. We must remember also that people often use multiple fansites, it's not like a user chooses one or the other, most use multiple fansites. The speed at which guides are produced is a significant factor in gaining traffic, as links to the guide will be posted on the forums of other fansites, but if this begins to be a problem for tip.it, this can easily be worked aroud by producing one guide very quickly, and then producing a good quality guide shortly after and replacing it... I believe this has already been done on a few occasions, usually the first draft guide is just linked to from the main news to the forums. And vladmoney: Tip.it isn't really like Microsoft: I don't think we have 95+% of Runescape fansite users. (I'm just guessing MS has that amount of control over the OS market, I didn't look up any stats though, feel free to point me at some if they indicate otherwise.)

How did you decide upon that? What exactly do you mean by that? A crome spoof eh? If it really is called that, then I'm sure google would return more than 0 results. Or perhaps you typoed and meant "Chrome spoof," but no... that only returns two useless results, with nothing at all related to browsers, security, or Firefox. You mean the files in C:\Documents and Settings\%username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\8dgtrndm.profilename\chrome ? They're the files that control what your browser looks like, and where extensions and themes add bits to the user interface. Just because you have files called "chrome" doesn't mean you have a problem. They're left there on purpose after you uninstall so that people who are uninstalling and reinstalling don't lose their bookmarks, cookies, settings etc. What was it about these files that lead you to believe they were suspicious? Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us as to the names of these other interesting things, maybe these are the source of your problem? Sound advice. Nobody should ever put blind faith in anything. Every computer should have a firewall, antivurs software, antispyware software and a secure web browser, such as Firefox. That is rather incorrect. I personally have never seen ANY Firefox exploits in the wild, although I daresay there would be a few sites which might target older versions of Firefox. This hardly qualifies as "a lot" though. (Unless of course you want to be picky and say that's it's a comparitive statement, in which case it is meaningless since you didn't say what you were comparing it to.) Actually I don't see merc claiming Firefox is flawless it all. As for him defending it, what did you expect, everyone just to sit back and let you tell the world whatever you think? You're posting in a public forum, people are going to have different opinions than you. (NB: People tend to argue with you more often when you're wrong.) So you're just scrambling wildly pointing out exploits in Firefox which have all been promptly fixed. If you were running the latest release of Firefox (1.0.7) then none of these exploits would have applied. I wonder why? Oh and merc, lol  I learnt a new acronym :D

To start with, don't have it sitting on carpet or anything that could obstruct it's air vents. Try sitting it on two pencils (one at each end) on a hard flat surface and see if it stops overheating.

Why does everyone say that Firefox is better than Opera?
Vape replied to runescape_rocks's topic in Tech and Computers
Funny you should use that word ;) http://www.flock.com/ Lol, I remember I installed it a few weeks ago. 100% useless.Dude, it's in beta, you're not supposed to be impressed with it yet. -
No confirmation from the admins yet ;) I daresay they're still having a meeting about it up on Mount Olympus :P

Woooooooooooooo partay! :D Hehe we suck at soccer  But the game is growing in Australia and this qualification will be great to boost its popularity.

/me bows down to the almighty Mercifull. Let me guess, you double posted on purpose to try to get the admins to put delete last post in topic in? :P

Valid point about the runescapeness of it. I still think most of the people who access the forums would be Runescape players though...

Pleeeeeeeeeeease could you add GMT+10:30 to the list of timezones. For 6 months of every year the forum times are always off for me :( (Location: South Australia, Australia) I don't know how to do it, but it can't be too difficult, as thesepeoplemanaged it. I would imagine there'd be a file somewhere that offsets the server time by however much, so I'm guessing you'd need to add some extra lines to that, and then add references to those lines in the dropdown box on the user profile page... I searched for some mods on it but most of them look pretty complex :-? Additionally, those people living in Chatham Island, New Zealand, all year, Newfoundland, from April to October, and Norfolk Island, Australia, all year would probably appreciate you adding GMT+12:45, GMT+13:45, GMT-2:30 and GMT+11:30. I asked around at phpbb but they say that 2.0.x is feature-frozen :( /me waves a large cookie in grin's direction.
