So what solutions would you offer to the problems?

I believe the admins deleted a bunch of them, there realyl were too many imho, but it's always going to be a pain for the people who used the ones which were deleted.

Don't know of one, but if you want iTunes 4 so you can get music from your ipod to your pc (eg if you had to reformat your harddrive, or for "other" purposes) then I can suggest Ephpod.

If you value your security, don't buy Sony BMG cd's...

For those of you who still haven't figured out what a rootkit is, one could compare it to saying: Hahaha  I read this a couple of days back, ratehr worrying. I hope Sony get fined for it and have to apologise. -
Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, but it requires knowledge to use, otherwise you can severely screw over your pc. The best thing to do is to look up all the services in google, and that'll give you information about them. After a while you will come to recognise good and bad processes and this will speed up your analysis of them. There are a number of sites on the net that will automatically analyze your log for you, but these should not be relied upon as they are not 100% accurate and sometimes miss bad processes or even mark good processes as bad! http://www.hijackthis.de http://hjt.iamnotageek.com/ Before you do anything, you should post your log here (or at another tech support forum) to get a second opinion from people that know what they're doing.

A step by step guide is avaliable here:)

Why does everyone say that Firefox is better than Opera?
Vape replied to runescape_rocks's topic in Tech and Computers
Comes as a Firefox extension to those who want it ;)Nya ha! It's an extension! Not good enough to be as standard eh?Well yeah basically. Most people wouldn't use that feature anyway so why put it in? :) Also, there are some problems with using a different useragent... many websites will detect the "opera" bit in it anyway, and if you change it to declare yourself as a plain old IE useragent, some websites will serve you a different version of their code that's written specifically for IE which may format wrong in Opera. -
You mean this one? Note I wasn't the original author of this, I just saved a partial copy on my pc. I dunno why it never got completed, maybe the original owner lost interest or left the boards or people were arguing over spaces or something... it was a long time ago. Oh and I reckon it has been attempted another time since then too...

Dude, I love that idea. It'll bring back some great memories for those of us that've been around for a while :) Although that picture isn't particularly wonderful :-? Maybe you could get someone famous from the media board to spice them up a bit? Just an idea.

What version of windows are you running? (Right click on "my computer" and select properties.)
-
*chuckle* Wioneo: Which error message might that be? :-?
-
Woooo! Partay! I knew about this ages ago merc :P

Only thing I can think of is go to a windows folder, Tools -> Folder Options and ensure that double click to open an item is selected. Otherwise... how old is your mouse? It could just be worn out.

A byte is the standard unit of measurement for harddrive space, but for some reason network speeds have always been measured in bits. A bit is 1 or 0, a byte is 8 bits. eg. 01000110. Then you just multiply by 1000 for kilo, 1,000,000 for mega, 1,000,000,000 for giga etc. So standard dialup internet is 56 kilobits per second, which translates to 56/8= 7 kilobytes per second. So 1 megabit/second is 0.125 megabytes/second which is 125 kilobytes/second. You can test your bandwidth here;)

Not on the Firefox one, not sure about the Opera one though.
-
Shouldn't do. If you can actually reproduce a bug here then you should report it. I suggest that next time, before you update you backup your profile.

Well... Mozilla is marketing its product by utilising it's proactive userbase. And that makes a big difference, why? That's like a miniscule percentage of os's, and most linux users are techy enough to choose their own browser. Oh and chaos, I am not crazy :P *twitch* But there are Opera fans around here too... Militaris (dunno what happened to him, havent seen him for a while :-?) wyrm etc. -
Why does everyone say that Firefox is better than Opera?
Vape replied to runescape_rocks's topic in Tech and Computers
The reason you hear so much about Firefox is because of the success of the Spreadfirefox campaign. Personally I only try to spread Firefox to IE users, opera users have already been saved :D There are also a lot of comptuer newbies advertising Firefox because spreadfirefox asks them to help, which can result in some incorrect information. Firefox and Opera are different, not better or worse. I prefer Firefox and like to enlighten others about it. -

Norton Internet Security/Internet problem (HJT log)
Vape replied to Vape's topic in Tech and Computers
Just got back from holiday, jumped on pc and it's rooted. Did a quick hjt scan but nothing stands out in the log, could someone have a look at it please and I'll go grab myself some beauty sleep and see what I can do tomorrow. Thanks :) Symptoms I've observed atm (Ignore what I said in my previous posts, that was secondhand info from my brother.) No internet in regular windows mode. Norton Internet Security doesn't automatically start in regular windows mode If you attempt to start NIS through start -> all programs etc., you get the microsoft error message "Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Please tell microsoft about this problem etc. Internet works in safe mode with networking. Can't start NIS in safe mode either, if you send an error report, the more info link from MS doesn't give you any useful info. Going to run a Norton Antivirus scan in safe mode while I'm sleeping. I suspect NIS may just be corrupted in some way and all that is required may be a reinstall... I might try that tomorrow. Tools -> Options -> Web features -> Enable JavaScript > Advanced. Check the box "Disable or replace context menus"
-
Main problem with this, is that.. hmm say 95% of computer users don't know how to do this.
-
Allow javascript to replace the context menu in Tools > Options > Content > Enable JavaScript > Advanced.Tools -> Options -> Web features? Perhaps it's been renamed content for 1.5?
