  1. default.8dgtrndm (eight random digits) is the name of your default Firefox profile. If you create a new one, through the profile manager (Start -> Run -> firefox[Caution: ExecutableFile] -profilemanager) then the profile folder is called Thenameyouentered.8dgtrndm (different random number.) What exactly are you trying to backup? The best way I've found to do this is using the Bookmark Backup extension which backs up all the profile data you select. Obviously, you can just copy and paste the profile folder to a remote location, but you don't really need to backup 100 megs worth of cache, and your history is going to be fairly useless in 3 months' time.
  2. You can run some programs off removable media, but not all of them. Many programs require windows registry settings and other system settings to run, but simple programs will run fine. Of course, you can get modified versions of some programs that are designed to run from removable media (such as a the fully awesome portable firefox project.) However, most modern closed source programs won't be able to run from removable media. What program do you want to run specifically?
  3. After a bit of googling, it seems that logitech are being miserable with regards to this and other users have complained about the lack of this functionality in their mouse options panels. Apparently the solution is to uninstall the logitech mouse software and use the default miscrosoft mouse software, where the option will be avaliable. I searched around for a bit to see if I could find a registry setting to modify the option, but was unable to find the correct one. Can anyone else more familiar with the registry help here? Otherwise, I suggest you uninstall the logitech mouse software and then disable the show location of my pointer option in the microsoft software. Unfortunately, most likely using the ms software you won't be able to access all the advanced features of your mouse because it has loads of buttons and whatnot, so after disabling the feature in ms's software, you could try reinstalling the logitech stuff. Oh, and I suggest you drop logitech an email asking if they've got any ideas also.

  5. IE gives me certificate warnings, but Firefox lets me get in fine. Firefox tells me the site is has not verified it's identity and does not use any encryption, which now that i'm looking at it, is pretty poor really. So yeah, Jagex's problem with their security certificates. It may be possible to hide the alerts by disabling IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Security -> Check for site and server certificate revocation, but this is a BAD idea and I suggest you just wait untill Jagex fixes it.
  6. Polls are about GPS's, PC's, video game consoles and mobile phones. Really poor layout. The polls are from a remote site (free i'm guessing) which is pretty slow. Nonetheless, I voted in all of them.
  7. The game you downloaded, was it compressed? Some file uncompressors may leave traces in the temp files.
  8. Are you using Firefox and playing Runescape at the same time? It's a known issue and there is unfortunately no solution. Jagex said they are working on it, but I suggest you contact them through customer support and ask them to make it a priority.
  9. As Phil said, it's a known issue.
  10. Ah well, I guess now you get to wait and see if any programs start calling for files in there :P I don't expect it will be any problem.
  11. Yup, I'm pretty sure you can delete all of that (best bet is to order by data and leave anything from the last week or so.)
  12. Look at the connections on the back of your tv/vcr/dvd player and then at the connections on your graphics card. If you don't know the names of them, try looking in the manuals. If you have two the same, then hey presto, go and buy a cable, if not, things are a little more difficult.
  13. It's very early on sunday morning in Britain now. (like about 2:17 am)
  14. Ah, yes on re-reading that appears to be the case. Oops :)
  15. Well there's a sticky on offtopic for it. Otherwise, well you could always pay for some advertising :P Basically you're not going to get much traffic unless you offer something different. Your forum looks nice, but what do you offer that other forums don't?
  16. Not really sure why a hardward fault with the mouse would change settings in the control panel :-? Does it happen if you use another mouse? (assuming you have one.)
  17. Just a little clarification: run the av and spyware scans in safe mode, but get the hijackthis log from regular mode :)
  18. Go to Profile -> Always enable BBcode or something like that As for the problem at hand, I'd say check the box "don't show this message again" ;) There should be some preferences in the options menu of the firewall too.
  19. You could always send a private email to bill gates about it (or more realistically, ring up/email microsoft support.)
  20. Restart your pc in safe mode (press f8 while it's starting up,) run avg again and then get it to delete them.
  21. You do realise that this is the whole point of the advert. 61 people have viewed this topic, and loads of people will have viewed that news article. By making it annoying they're getting extra publicity when people winge to each other about it.
  22. Download the latest version from here. Control panel -> Add/remove programs. Remove previous version. Install new version. Open it up, configure it, allow connections for firefox[Caution: ExecutableFile]
  23. What firewall is it? What happens when you try to open it?
