  1. I've been browsing the DFO forums a lot lately, and the general consensus from what I've seen is that that particular video was bogus. Sadly, I don't really have the internet connection right now to really view it myself, but (presuming that I'm correct and this was done over a text-chat system) it could be conceivably possible that someone is impersonating Tasos and staging the whole thing just to have some laughs. I'm not sure, I'll have to look at it myself, but that's what I've been hearing on the forums. TL;DR: It might be bogus, wait for official on-forum confirmation.
  2. The first thing is ****ing funny but true. I don't know whether to laugh at them or feel sorry for them. The people in your school seem to have some stereotypes of their own. However, do they fit? That fat white kid sounds like a world-class gooch. Hopefully, he learned to not act like an idiot after that little fiasco. That second fight, though, it doesn't exactly sound like they're fighting. Are you SURE they were fighting? Because, let's be honest, if someone goes for someone's beanbag it's either 1) they want to remove them from the gene pool or 2) they want to know what the stuff on the inside tastes like. :?
  3. Freaky, necroposts are not smiled upon here. Please keep that in mind.
  4. Chi, you have a LOT more restraint than I do. I salute you. What I'm wondering is what was done about the person who threw the chair. Really, if this was in real life and I saw that being done to one of my friends, the person would have his arms broken. What sort of things did your friends do about it? And did the school do anything to punish the kid?
  5. Bullying (and I mean the hardcore physical kind) is why I sometimes think that capital punishment should be brought back. Specifically, the medieval variety. I'm not talking a ruler across the knuckles or a rod on the [donkey]. I'm talking 10 lashes with a studded bullwhip each time someone physically assaults a weaker person for the purpose of either proving how "hard" they are or having fun. Maybe then this [cabbage] will end. And yes, I have been bullied in the past, and yes, this is made me a militant, sadistic, brutal motherf**ker. Perhaps if people knew better than to push around those weaker than them because they can then I wouldn't be like this, but whatever. The past is the past, and the present is already happening. All that I hope for is that the future is better for people than it was for me. And I'm willing to take a large list of measures to make that happen.
  6. So by your logic, looking away is the solve-all solution to any problem dealing with people getting uncomfortable when they see a certain thing? Then why isn't sex in public legal since people can just look away? Some lines MUST be drawn somewhere; it's just that when it involves delaying something like the feeding of a child unreasonably (whose watching the other kids, and how long will it take to go outside to a suitable place?), I see that as less of defending your right to eat in a comfortable environment for you and more of defending your PERCEIVED right to complete control over other people where it might seem even mildly indecent. Let me put it this way: people tolerate miniskirts. People tolerate those ultra-short shirts which just barely go under a normal girl's bust line. What is the problem with someone taking the responsibility to take care of their youngest?
  7. In case you don't have it finished, I have a suggestion for the ending cutscene and maybe the credits. Go look up Drakengard 2, and look for it's theme song. I'm not sure of what it's called, but it's a perfect cap on most rpg games. Not exactly a boss fight song, but definitely epic in it's own way.
  8. For me, the biggest "Screw you" moment was a certain plot twist of the game Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time. Those who have played it know of what I speak. That right there was the biggest mind-f*ck to have ever plagued this earth. The jackass who thought that throwing that little monkey wrench in would be a good idea should be skinned alive. The game itself was bleeding awesome, all they would have to do to get it to be a world-class game would change that ONE part of the story. I hope that they redeem themselves with the upcoming prequel to that series, I really do.
  9. So go feed the child in the bathroom and the dinner table is where your meant to get your food? I meant, do it discretely, somewhere, not at the table. So a mother should leave her husband and (possibly) other children to feed her youngest just because some random stranger is staring and making themselves feel uncomfortable? And, honestly, which is easier to ignore: a screaming baby or a breastfeeding mother? the answer to your first question is yes. it doesn't take that long, and i'm sure that the husband and kids would understand. people must not have any common courtesy about things anymore. everyone just cares about what they have to do, or what they want to do, and do it where they like, they don't care about what others think, or how others feel about it. it's just rude. breastfeeding is something that is needed, but it's not something everyone wants to see. i don't get why people don't take other people's opinions into effect. Here's the way that I see it. If someone is too immature to just avert their eyes whenever someone is feeding their child, then they're proven incapable of functioning in public, and should be dealt with as such. If it's some trailer-trash crack [bleep] that is just doing it as some sort of advertisement, then yeah, you should be allowed to kick them out of the establishment. Otherwise, grow up.
  10. Oh yeah, because the world will be completely flooded overnight and people will just revolt against the government the next morning. Great timing. Don't even start on the nukes... Alright, here's a little experiment: Find a large pot or tin. Fill it close to the brim with water. Now, take a bunch of ice cubes about half the size of your head. Now, dump them into the pot/tin all at once. Clean up the mess after. In the real world, the part that goes out of the tin (if either mass of ice I mentioned) goes into such places as most of Florida, parts of New York City (the WTC Memorial site would be underwater), India (second most populated country in the world), and basically everywhere that's has any part of the area between it and the ocean being under 20 ft. above sea level. Do you realize just how many people and administrative offices on this planet would be utterly SCREWED by that? Everybody who doesn't get washed out to sea or otherwise turned into fish food is going to swarm inland. No country or organization on the planet will be able to handle something of that magnitude without extreme help, and this is presuming that all the people who run those countries or organizations don't die from either the flooding or the aftermath. I might not be a scientist, but the flooding is probably going to take a grand total of 2-3 days to reach all the corners of the world. The parts of the world that are going to be hit by this will be going absolutely mad to get to safety. That is what I mean by anarchy. It's not revolting, it's entire disregard to anything the government says if it means their death. Also, on the nuke thing, how many different areas do you think which hold these things are going to be put underwater? That's not even considering the possibility that the more extreme countries on the planet will view this as being one (or more) nation's fault, and throw everything they got at them before they're 6 feet underwater (yes, that was a pun). They're gonna die anyway, why should they give a f**k as to the consequences? Meol, I didn't mention that mainly because it helps get people in gear if they can see the effects will be quick and almost immediate. The best way for that is to go at the largest plausible target. I think that Greenland and the Antarctic fit the bill.
  11. Here's all I really need to know. You see, of all of the different effects of Global Warming (otherwise known as Climate Change), there's one that, in my opinion, trumps all others. You see, there's certain parts of Antarctica and all of Greenland which are basically entirely land-based ice. Through processes which are NOT naturally occurring, they're becoming structurally damaged, to the point where both look like Swiss cheese. This presents the problem of them falling into the ocean. If EITHER one of these two masses of ice fall into the ocean, it will almost immediately force the global ocean level up 20 feet. That will turn every single spot on this planet within at most a couple miles to the ocean into a death trap. What do you think will happen if BOTH of them go? I don't know about you, but I think that would throw the world into mass anarchy. Throw in a couple nukes, and there's a chance that this world might become uninhabitable VERY fast. That sound fun to you?

I feel your pain, dude. :wall: In all honesty, right now, at least from my perspective, entirely legally obtained guns stop more crimes than they enable, even if you give more weight to violent crimes. Until that changes, the general populous should be allowed to buy as they are now. All that really needs to be done is to enforce the current laws and refocus the approval process so that people who have been in serious trouble recently (mentally and legally) can't get a weapon. I say this as a man whose lived his entire memorable life in the heart of deer hunting country. If that doesn't work, make it mandatory for a person who wants certain types of firearms (most semiautomatic rifles and most handguns/revolvers) to have some military service under their belt. This will guarantee that they can handle a gun, and it will help recruitment. That's what I call a win-win.
  13. Unless it was totally redundant and off-topic like some people can get, I really don't mind, but really don't post for others, post for your opinion more so than anything else. I don't play at being a spokesperson for anybody, really. I also have the tendency to post my direct opinion a lot, most of the time to the point of being painfully blunt. People tend to ignore my posts regardless anyway. I think I'm beginning to get what you're saying, but in a game like Darkfall the emphasis wasn't on the elements or certain elements and how they'd interact with you. Stuff like this feels like it's made for the main 'plot' of the game. Which would be the elements and a large storyline or main storyline revolving around such effects from elements. I'm saying putting something like this in DF isn't an option because it's not what the developers think or want us to think of DF as. They want us to think of the game as skill based. Meaning pvp is won by skill, not weapons, or field bonuses., but by how you attack and how well you can attack the opponents. I love the idea, but it's not something Darkfall was made around, so really it would be a hinderance to the game in my mind, and cause arguments in pvp about 'you had homefield advantage, so it was unfair'. I don't really view it as much of a "main plot" thing, more like just some extra intricacy with how certain things coexist. In effect, this would probably magnify the skill emphasis, really. Also, I don't think the benefits of having a large skill base in one of the elements would be too much of an advantage. All the opponent would have to do is not use that element in order to be able to damage you like normal, or use the opposite element to beat the stuffing out of you. I'm trying to get it to be like a double-edged sword. True, someone could just spend time working on two opposing elements, but I'd think that it would be a very long wait to be truly effective like that. I view this sort of thing not too differently from the way that melee armor works (plate's good against slash/stab attacks, bad against crush), but in magic terms instead. Also, the environmental benefits would not be extremely substantial. For an example, say that a fire specialist is going through the desert. His natural health regen rate would improve by 10%, his mana regen rate by 15%, his base stats by 5%, and the effects of his fire magic by 20%. If that same mage were to go through tundra conditions, the bonuses would go in the opposite direction, with the added thing of becoming hungry faster. If someone takes advantage of this, then it wouldn't be too different from using the terrain in any other type of attack (forests to sneak up on people, cliffs for higher ground attacks, etc.). There are probably going to be debuffs/buffs in the game, but we've already been told there will be few 'buffs', but I don't think they'll leave out debuffs. Anyways these could weaker your defense to the 10+ types of magic skills (or trees) in the game. This game is based on skills. Skills which you train by using. There's 10x more skills than there was in UO. Meaning your character will be shaped by what you do. So forfeit the elements with skills, and you probably are on the right track, jsut elements isn't the right word for it, in my opinion. I'm viewing the elements in general as less of a skill themselves and more of a classification. Understand what I'm meaning? Nothing can hide or go invisible in the game, so no. Unless they added an item or specific skill for a quest or item in a dungeon than perhaps, but even then I doubt it, unless it's for a puzzle in a dungeon. I see. I would imagine there could be spells that temporarily increase your sense of sound, smell, or perhaps let you see a bit further, or even items with such capabilities to make sure no one is following. In DF when you walk around, you have to turn around manually, there's no camera for you. Thus you have to rely on sound pretty much to hear someone coming. As mentioned by the developers there won't be a skill that lasts more than 30 seconds as a buff to you. Thus meaning you'd have to hear the person coming, then activite the spell to see for their attacks/movement, and for only 30 seconds. Then again if I heard something moving behind me, I wouldn't waste the time getting a spell ready, when they can see me getting ready they could flee, or attack me too. Anyways if I did do the spell, and I did it somehow right before they casted theirs, then sure it would be nice to dodge out of the way of the spell to. But the chances of this is so slim, and there won't be a spell that shows you someone casting, or that enhances your senses for more than 30 seconds, so it'll prove more useless than anything, unless you're expecting an ambush. The developers have said there won't be buffs and nothing lasts longer than 30 seconds except certain potions for heal over time and such. Hopefully that shows why it's not practical in DF, it's real time combat based on skill, not having buffs to protect you or make you able to win a fight based on the first few steps of battle. I'm not thinking of this being a "cast once and let it go" spell, like most buffs and debuffs are. I'm thinking more of a constant drain spell. See what I mean? It would still be a large chunk of your mana after 30s, but you could turn it on and off at will. I'm not wanting this to be an ability that people could keep on for hours at a time, even at max levels all across the board. The longest that anybody should be able to have this active in my opinion is 5 minutes, and this is at maximum everything with all possible means of reducing mana cost and improving total mana/mana regen. A mid-level person who only trains this and whatever scattered spells they like with no attention to mana conservation is likely to be only keep this on for a minute or 2 at a time, discounting other spells. Sound fair? Nope. The map takes 8-12 hours to cross by walking/running. 3-5 hours for mounts. This excludes dungeons, floor levels and is only going in one direction. This means the surface area is incredibly large. 10k players are barely going to crowd such a huge world. I'd expect the servers to increase to 50k at some point, regardless of expenses. There's clan battle grounds, with city hotspots close together, which of course will encourage people to fight. There'll be spots close to resources, causing fights, and other encouraging things. Then there's places where there's only 2-3 spots and some resources, but only enough that 10 or so players could 'live' in the area, and any more would be hectic and not worth the time. This is all speculation supported by development journals and posts, actually 290 pages of development journals. Thing is, unless if these areas in total cover the vast majority of the continent AND can support more than one clan each, they'll be swarmed by every clan in the entire game like locusts. Any group that's under 200 or so will have to be on almost all around the clock to be able to defend their area from capture in those conditions. I imagine that it will prove difficult beyond all imagination. If it's NOT how I described, then the longest that any small-medium clan will be able to hold an area is likely to be 2-3 weeks, if that. See the problem? This is excluding the areas that are so remote that only people who are combing the entire map with a toothpick will be able to find.
  14. You like Aizen Sosuke, don't you? ;) My power would probably be best described as complete control over the elements Fire and Darkness. If you want a more in-depth description, I can provide one. Darkness is a element? :| But go on, like shadows and stuff? Alright, it seems I need to explain myself further. Basically, there's 8 pure elements in my book; Fire, Ice, Water, Thunder, Earth, Wind, Light, Darkness. Everything in existence under normal conditions has SOME amount of all these elements, even if it's only trace amounts. However, the conditions of the given area are an indicator of how much of each element is present (if it's hot, there's more fire energy than ice, for example). They each also have certain traits, which show more as you concentrate more of the element into something. In the case of Darkness, for example, you can expect some scary [cabbage] to be going down on the business end of a Darkness spell. You see, it's main focuses are fear-inducing abilities, various illusions, and things dealing with death. I'd figure that if what I described was how things went, most (if not all) reapers would have almost exclusively Darkness energy in them. If you find someone whose very adept at using this element, be prepared to fight things that you couldn't imagine in your worst nightmares. There's a reason why little kids almost always either 1) need a nightlight or 2) sleep with their parents.
  15. You're welcome, it's rare that people like my involvement in a discussion, or at least voice that. I feel special. :twss: There's no elements per say, but there are magic related skills, which may or may not increase/decrease or buff other players depending on their attacks. I have no idea. It looks like the 4 elements described magically are Fire, Earth, Water, and Air. Somewhat limited, but I digress. From a realistic viewpoint, someone whose extremely adept at one elemental magic type would have a large amount of that energy present in their body, correct? It would also make sense that the presence of a significantly weaker amount of that energy nearby would replenish their own supplies of it rather than damage it. And even if the source is too strong to allow the target to convert it into a benefit, it would have a vastly lessened effect on the target. It's like trying to dehydrate a desert animal to death: while not impossible, it's a lot harder than on something from, say, the ocean. In my general opinion this won't be an issue, or happen. You don't become adhered to an element and become weak to it as you increase a certain skill (skills are everything, running, swimming, swinging, archery, spells, everything). To continue the arguments above, it would also make sense that the polar opposite of an element (fire-water, earth-wind in this case) would have a more extreme effect when used aggressively, at least to a point (if it's too strong, it might dissipate the attack before it even reaches the target). Nothing can hide or go invisible in the game, so no. Unless they added an item or specific skill for a quest or item in a dungeon than perhaps, but even then I doubt it, unless it's for a puzzle in a dungeon. I don't think you're quite getting what I'm saying. Imagine this scenario. You're going along, doing whatever the Hell it is that you like to do, and for some reason you start getting the feeling that you're being watched. Not liking the idea of you being turned into a pincushion, you decide to activate a certain spell. It functions similarly to a magical radar, alerting you to any concentrations of any magical energy or life, out to a certain distance. It shows up on your screen most noticeably as a sort of minimap, with some various colors and whatnot that you'd expect if you could see magical energy. It shows up an abnormal "blip" about 15m behind you, so you turn around. You see a pronounced silhouette in the shape of a standard human hiding behind a tree, holding something long and with a hilt guard. You launch a fireball at it, destroying the tree and the highwayman hiding behind it, with him having a "WTF WAS THAT???" look on his face. This is the basic premise of what I'm thinking. Unless if the person in question has some sort of protection (which could do anything from hazing out the outline they see to making it invisible), they will be noticed as easily as if they were in an open field. Obviously, terrain would make this somewhat difficult in most cases, but you see what would happen. If anything, this would most likely fall under Arcane Magic, and be very difficult to find and train. Of course, there would be a constant drain on mana as long as the effect's in place, probably enough that an absolute newbie would only be able to hold it for 15 seconds at most. Increased level would be able to widen the range, improve protection penetration, and increase efficiency. Of course, there's two obvious counters to this ability. One's the ability to mask your aura print, the other's to make you completely invisible. Both of these would also be under Arcane Magic, and be equally difficult to get and train. However, the utility is undeniable. The first would only make the "Aura Sight" ability useless, but the second would give you camouflage as well, with a lessened ability to hide your aura. You'd still make sounds, and you'd still be touchable, so it's not complete invisibility. Also, they'd both be extremely draining on your mana reserves. A newbie wouldn't even be able to hold it for 5 seconds if they managed to get either of these right off the bat. Sound about right? there's over 500 spells or something? Each one can be increased for more power through use. I don't think you can make new spells, but the possibility of combining spells to advance in a skill or magic tree perhaps. So there's little hope for extreme creativity with the actual spell invention, but there's a good chance that people can mix & match different effects for new spells. Alright, I can live with that. Anybody else liking the idea of a chain freezing effect? Everything can be player made from a large range of crafting skills. So really anything in the game, you can make. I don't think you can make your own designs & styles. That's acceptable. I'd love it if I could come up with new weaponry, but you can't win all the time. I really don't think you'll be able to manipulate landscape at will, but certain areas may provide the opportunity to alter it in some fashion for some purpose like sieges, or trenches...etc. Thanks for the post and questions, made me think too. That would be livable, if not for the fact that there's only 85 or so spots specifically designated for city building and whatnot. That's NOT going to be easy to maintain for a prolonged period with ~10k people all clamoring for their own real estate. I can tell that this one's going to go to the 500+ clans. Darn.
  16. Holy sh**. I have been dreaming about something like this for YEARS. The moment I get a good system and internet, this is going on it. I only have a few questions. How will proficiency in an elemental magic type affect your ability to withstand things which negatively affect people based on that element? I'd figure that higher level people might even get a mana/health regen boost when nearby (or in) something with a lot of that element tied into it, maybe even healing from attacks of that element. How will proficiency in an elemental magic type affect your weakness to certain attack types? If someone is very proficient in fire magic, for example, it would make sense that ice magic would (initially) have a more pronounced effect on them. Would there be Byakugan-type spells and abilities available? For those of us who have no clue what I just said, think more like a "minimap ability". Meaning, they'll be aware of things outside of their normal visible range which aren't protected strongly enough &/or in the right way. Obviously, something like this would be difficult to learn and have to be made equally difficult to train, but it would add an interesting element to an already awesome game. Is there some way for players to be able to make new spells? Not like in Oblivion, but more like changing a basic fireball spell into a Hammer of Dawn-esque attack, or anything else fire projectile-related which is not covered in the game already. How customizable is the item crafting? Will we be just swapping parts on basic designs or will we be able to make entirely different equipment from the norm? Will we be able to change the landscape in any way? For example, be able to dig a tunnel that goes 50m deep, then craft an entire city from there? Because of the level of coverage that this topic has, I can't think of any other questions that I can ask. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This is epic win.

  18. That whole post deserves "what." You mixed up about thirty stereotypes. thats cause im fat. and i had just woken up when i wrote that. it doesnt even make much sense to me now that i read it again. but the main reason i dont play sports is my hair. and the rich kids. Excluding most of my back, the bottoms of my feet, and the inside of my hands, every single square inch of my body is covered in noticeable amounts of hair. I have hair on my TOES, dude. Quit whining like a [female dog] and get off your lazy [donkey] to go beat the stuffing out of these rich [needles] with a dodgeball. It's fun, it's safe, it's good exercise, and you get important skills from it (accuracy, speed, throw power). It's a win all around! And about the dent thing, just say that you got it because someone bashed your head with a metal pipe or something. That should earn you 15 badass points right there. and we have the 1st tip.iter who censors his OWN stuff. ALSO since when is "Throw power" an important skill? Why, thank you. Nice to know I'm the first person whose capable of thinking of ways to say things so that people will know what I'm talking about and not setting off the filter. I feel loved. \ On the throw power thing; do you not know what a grenade is? The military LOVES people who can use one with minimal training. Also, you never know when you need to get something from point A to point B faster than you can carry it.

  20. If at all possible, could we PLEASE put it into writing that the "moral/logical dilemma" threads are to be considered as spam? All they really do is present a random hypothetical said in such a way that it makes people feel bad no matter what way they land. All they really do is clog up the forum from doing the things that it's designed to do. Sound fair? If they want to do this, put it in Forum Games or something. If I look at a topic, I want to see something legitimate to discuss, not some random pointless hypothetical.
  21. My suggestion? Don't use snowballs next time. Watch this and this. The first one, I'm not sure of the safety, but the second's safe as long as you only touch the bottom of it. Both would be epic, the first because it's a glowing goo-like substance when thrown and they have no clue if it's radioactive or not and the second because it's a ***king fireball. Have fun!
  22. Both sound awesome, but the glitter idea might play Hell with peoples' respiratory systems. Where did you get the supplies?
  23. Alright, this is just..... Well, because this site's smiley list is somewhat lacking, I'll use my own image. This should do nicely for most people's opinion on this, even a few Neo-Nazis and other such groups. Is this guy absolutely nuts, "special", or just plain stupid? All he's doing is condemning his children to 18+ years of Hell because they just could not resist "making a point", AKA (in this case) showing that they want to continue the Holocaust and other stuff related to WW2 era Germany. Is there any WORSE way to do that? -.- Also, on a few things other people said: Yes, certain names carry a weight to them. It would be like naming someone something like Nelson Mandela *insert last name*, for example. Doesn't matter what you say, for everyone who knows the person they're named after, they'll be hard pressed to disassociate that person from the one who got stuck with the name. Thus, Rule 36 (I think) of Parenting. Yes, Hitler was voted in. The dictatorial stuff started later, when he gave himself complete control over Germany, and made it basically impossible for him to be removed from power except by force. Bush, [bleep]er that he is, has yet to try anything like that, so he's not QUITE a dictator. And lastly, the swastika is considered a mark of evil because of it's extreme ties to Nazis. There's various random groups all across the planet which use some sort of variation on it (Buddhist *caged bird symbol*, Native American *a peace symbol I think*, and a few others that don't come to mind right now), but the one that got the most attention of ANY of them was the Nazis. They used it to such an extent that until the word Nazi is wiped from the collective memory of the human race (and probably a little bit after), that symbol will ALWAYS remind people of that group of demonic sons-of-[female dog]es. Hell, even whenever I read the NARUTO series, the seal put on Neji reminds me of them.
  24. Paintball is a sport, and my school has a team DAMN IT ALL!!!!!   :wall: :wall: :wall: You suck. I freaking LOVE paintball. Where do you live at, I want to transfer.
  25. I played dodgeball in JROTC. Our coaches are wusses, and they don't like games where the object is to nail someone with anything. Well, before some panzy started bawling his eyes out because he/she got hit a little hard somewhere and it supposedly left a bruise (we play with military people, you WILL know you got hit). So now, we can't play it anymore and PT day basically sucks. Said area we played in was this area right behind the bleachers, about 1 story higher than the rest of the gym. The bleachers blocked most shots, so everything that got out either went over or rolled down the stairs on either side. It was mostly contained (to an area about 1/3 the size of a basketball court :D ), so the only people who got hurt were already up there. Also, on the whole "dodgeballs don't leave marks" line, I know from personal experience that that particular statement is bull***t. It was in 4th grade, we were doing this circle-type of dodgeball (everyone stands in a circle, you have to nail someone on the opposite side, can't move your feet) and someone blasted me on the right side of my face. Left that cross-stitch print on most dodgeballs tattooed onto my face for about 2-3 days. Hurt like a motherf***er too.
