Soft Drugs: What gives?
Good points, however drug use will always continue, legalised or not. Australia has recognised that and introduced the "harm minimisation" approach to drug users.

Soft Drugs: What gives?
I read something today and thought of this thread, enjoy. In 1974, Szasz, writing about drug policy, asked:

Soft Drugs: What gives?
You should be careful when you make generalisations :D. Generally heroin is taken for its' euphoric effect. However, heroin can be used for mood modifiers, especially by women users with mental health/personality disorders to level out their social personalities (Room 1996). Heroin is also often used for short-term anxiety relief, used inappropriately to maintain weight loss and to temporarily escape psychological memories such as sexual abuse. There are other reasons and it depends on each user. Here are a few quotes I've personally taken from counselling heroin users (Names have been changed). "I've gotta show that he doesn't have complete control over me, don't I?" - Lisa (21). Lisa felt an increase in power and control in some aspects in her life such as her relationship and her employment. Dawn (27) remembered feeling repulsed by the whole heroin scene. She felt "confident and really good". She managed to stay clean to finish a 2 year post graduate course. She still found her heroin use very pleasurable but felt it could cause her problems in her career. Dawn managed to limit her use to the end of the week when she was not working and not beyond her financial means. And to the ignorant who think alcohol is safe: Alcohol is the third leading cause of death in Australia and second leading cause of death in Australia for women, accounting for 900 deaths in 1998 compared to 185 illicit drug related deaths (NH&MRC 2001). 70% of Australian children under the age of 13 report having consumed alcohol and this increases to 90% by the young age of 15 (AIHW 2002a). Compared to 40-50% of Australians aged 16-24 years who have reported trying cannabis at least once (PDPC 2002), the 10% of older adolescents and young adults who have tried amphetamines (Moon et al. 1999), the 7% of older adolescents and young adults who have tried MDMA (who mind you most users were relatively well educated and mostly employed) (AIHW 2002a), the 7% of young people who have tried chroming compared to the 2% who do it on a regular basis (Moon et al. 1999) and 1% of young Australians who have at least tried opiates (AIHW 2002a).

What am i going to do with my life?
Well I didn't get a PM so I guess you don't want to change your life. That's a shame, I've successfully worked with the Schizophrenic a few times. Keep on digging your hole, if that's what you want to do.

Abortion.
We'll I'm not denying a life I'm more or less thinking of the psychological consequences between both, mother and child. The mother will most likely not be able to bond with the child, which means an unemotional attachment. This brings great difficulty in a child̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s behaviour and emotional stability developing through the phallic stage. The mother will most likely still have the lingering psychological problems in 9 months time when the baby is born. The mother will then have to look at her child for the rest of her life and be reminded of the rape incident. Also the mother might still be experiencing trauma which can last a life time depending on the person and might be unable to trust or to love again in a way that society can consider 'normal'. When the child has misbehaved there is a higher increase in child abuse occurring. As when the child has offended the mother, the memory of being raped can be triggered. This means the kid can potentially be hit by the mother harder than what is socially acceptable and lawful. I have counselled a woman who smothered her child to death with a pillow because the babies father was abusive and triggered off memories, yet alone rape. When the child is born it will be neglected, (at least, that is I've never come across a mother who has been able to fully come to terms with having a rapists' child). The child will already be emotionally unstable from it's upbringing by the time they find out their father is a rapist. It increases the chance of mental illness, suicide, unstable relationships. Personally, I would never want to see someone go through with it, mother or child. If they want to have the baby that's their business, I won't get involved but I have personally seen a lot of nasty counselling visits with rape victims yet alone spawn of rape victims...

Soft Drugs: What gives?
What we don't need is another teenage kid with an attitude problem, go take your problems out by beating the rug over the washing line with a broom, you'll feel better. And even if he were a 'fat tomato' chicks rather tomatoes than sour grapes. Both of you go grow up and come back when you can have a discussion.
-
Abortion.
I don't believe in abortion unless it's a rape victim. I believe if you can't afford a child, you have 9 months to do something about your income. You can sit on your arse or the both of you can go make some dough. You can flame me as much as you want but I have friends who have had abortions and I've kept my mouth shut on my opinion because I respect other people̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s choices.

Soft Drugs: What gives?
What I want to know (which I think is pretty funny) is why the government seeks media to target the war on drugs, when statistically speaking (in Australia, anyway) the use in teenagers increases after it has been released in the press :XD: Can you imagine that? Seriously... A 13 year old reading the newspaper... WTF is ice? Wow I never even heard of it; guess I'll go try it! Every time they do it, they increase the amount of users, so why do they still do it, even aware of the statistical increase?

would you ever grow a mullet?
If you came in for a job interview with a mullet I'd judge you and put an X on your resume because you can't turn up to an interview well-groomed and therefore I would make an assumption that you're a bit of a Bogan who lets himself go a bit, which means plenty of sick days and not up to my standards in presentation. It would end with a smile and a 'don't call me, we'll call you'. Out on the street is a different story, I wouldn't think anything bad. There's my 2 cents worth, flame me if you will but I'm being brutally honest.

What am i going to do with my life?
If you're serious about wanting to change your life and are willing to make it happen, send me a PM with your MSN and we can work together as a team to see results. If you're not, I can't help you and neither can anyone else.

Party Help
Well you don't need my advice then lol seems as though every party you hold is a success and people enjoy themselves, so I'm sure you think of good ideas. I don't know about everyone else but it doesn't matter what's in the party (music, or balloons or food or drink type) but the company. If there are good people, I always have a good time and trouble makers and morons, I always have a crap time.

Soft Drugs: What gives?
I've already studied drugs and substance abuse etc so if anyone wants to know any certain questions about drugs you can always send me a PM, I don't mind discussing it (unless it's statistics related outside of Australia). and The evidence that cannabis can cause psychosis that persists when the drug is stopped is not very strong (Hall et al. 1994) and cannot be explained by the known pharmacology of the drug. In the case of a user with a pre-existing schizophrenic condition, cannabis may bring out a schizophrenic episode that might not otherwise have occurred, or might have occurred at a later date. Using cannabis will not cause mental illness. It may, however, precipitate or exacerbate an already existing mental instability Drug use: Preventing harm, Oxford University Press (2004). A friend of mine had a flash back from LSD 3 months after use. He saw a black shadow in the field suggesting he come over and ran in to the bush. My friend skipped down this "field" which was actually a main high way and was hit by a car, luckily he survived. If anyone wants to know the nitty gritty of why flash backs happen you can PM me. -- Edited for all my great spelling mistakes for a 4am post.
