Satanism is everyone's favourite philosophy until they see someone else practicing it. It is a philosophy of hypocrites.
  2. How expensive is a psychologist? I mean, if his dad is spending all their money on alcohol, he can't exactly afford one, could he? I'd say the surefire method is just chucking your dad out and then starting the healing process. A psychologist won't help if you get home from a session to a drunk father beating your mother.
  3. That assumes it currently has God's blessing. Tell me, how does a nation go about acquiring the blessing of God?
  4. I'm definitely happy about the Pronger suspension. He's turned into a goon this post-season. Along with most of the Dirty Ducks.
  5. This probably won't help... but I can't remember ever hearing about a twelve year old dying in their sleep.
  6. If he had a bank account his wife probably used that money to keep him alive... It depends. If Poland offers free healthcare then his wife wouldn't have had to use any money to keep him alive (depending on how extensive the free healthcare is).
  7. I cover mainly solo acoustic stuff. Right now I'm heavily into covering John Mayer songs (3x5, Daughters, My Stupid Mouth, Why Georgia, etc). Each summer I generally focus on a different artist. Last summer was Jack Johnson covers and the summer before was Dashboard Confessional covers (this summer is a tad bit harder). Also, worship music as well :) I'm thinking later on in the summer when I have the money I'll buy an amp to accompany my electric and start playing some John Mayer electric stuff and move into blues.
  8. I think that is a good idea. Understanding functions and operations on functions should be second nature before attempting calculus.
  9. Actually Lionheart, I think you misunderstood your teacher. Algebra the 12U course is irrelevant to calculus, however, knowing basic grade ten algebra (simplifying, factoring, etc) is absolutely essential. You need to be able to factor and simply all kinds of functions instinctively to be successful in calculus.
  10. :o  My math teacher said calc cant be done without algebra. very odd. Oh does anyone have study tips, especially in math? Lol, your math teacher is trying to scare you. I got a 90% in calculus and the course was a province-wide standard math course (meaning I get the same mark if I take calc at waterloo). Study tips in math? Practice. Take your math book, and do every question at the end of every chapter. I know it sounds brutal, but it works.
  11. I didn't even take algebra in high school. I dropped it and focussed on calc (got an 85). It was my only 12U math course. I'm in Brock's Computer Science Program. It's decent, I mean, I'm working a $19/hr job as a co-op right now and I've only finished 2 years of it so yeah, it'll get you the money like most computer science degrees. The good thing is that the computer science program is getting better every year. Brock has been rapidly expanding in size and quality the past few years (ie. brand new $23million building), and the computer science department introduced a Masters in Computer Science degree last year, and enrollment has doubled for the upcoming semester. The (yes, there are bad things about it, like most programs) bad thing about the program is because it is expanding so quickly, they are often short-staffed and need to get grad students to teach some courses, which is hit-and-miss. Graduate students tend to either be really good at teaching, or just awful. But yeah, it's getting better by the minute, and it's treating me just fine. If you can get into the co-op program, do it.
  12. To play Devil's advocate, the Ducks play a pick-style of game that, if called by the book, would put them in a permanent 3-5 situation because there would be unlimited interference calls against them. Quick example? Corey Perry on Mike Fisher at the end of the first frame - no call, so Fisher flipped out and started punching Perry in the face and got called for roughing. Or, Bauchemin's elbow into Comrie's nose should have been a 4min PP for Ottawa, no call. Every time Anaheim enters Ottawa's zone their wingers pick Ottawa's defensemen slowing them up, which should be called for interference. But even if you take all that into account, Ottawa still sucked.
  13. I go to Brock, and they're pretty reasonable with letting people in with low 70's. You should at least try to apply to Brock for a "lesser" program, and then apply to switch programs in your second year. My friend went to Brock with a 70s average, got into Recreation and Leisure (what is considered the easiest program academically). He got decent marks, and applied for Business, and got in. He's now doing a business degree with a specialty in Finance and he isn't the least bit behind - your first your credits just go towards your electives and your last three years are heavy. As far as Calculus being required, it definitely is. If you are in any general science or math degree, you will be required to take university level calculus courses, and they are not easy. I am a computer science major and we are required to take math major calculus as just about every area in computer science relies on calculus. I hated it at first, but by the end of my calculus courses, I liked it so much that I want to be a calculus teacher and so I'm getting math as my second teachable. So I guess my suggestion to you is, attend a university as an undeclared major, take general courses, see what you like, and switch into that program. Make sure you work your hiney off at university though. As far as taking longer, don't worry about it. Once you get to university you'll have fourth year students in first year classes (for electives), people starting degrees in their 30s, etc. Everybody becomes peers when you're at university. As far as money is concerned, just get OSAP. Interest free loans until you get your degree. Nothing better.
  14. Get a tutor for grade twelve?
  15. Dirty Ducks are showing their true colours. They interfere at every possible chance and the refs aren't calling it.
  16. Spot on. Hence why the title is kind of wrong; It's not a matter of facts. It is a matter of facts though. Fate either exists or it doesn't. That's a fact. We may believe one way or another, but what we believe is irrelevant to the truth. Anyways, on another train of thought.... Is it not consistent for you, a materialist, to completely deny free will? If you are a materialist, would you not believe that our thoughts and actions are completely predetermined by other material entities? I know the Heisenburg uncertainty principle would make our actions impossible to predict, but it doesn't change the fact that we have no control over them? If you're a materialist, then fate is a fact. If you think materialism is fact, then you must think that fate is fact.

Just like eating benefits the species, but people don't spend hours online looking at pictures/videos of food, or spend their days checkin' out "the burgers"... The point is, people don't do those things because those things aren't sating their appetites. So what's the point? To make a connection, why do people spend their days lusting after people if it doesn't fulfill their sexual appetites? We are over-exciting our sexual appetites for no apparent reason. Lust may "benefit" our species in a reproductive sense, but I don't see how treating people like sexual objects benefits us in any other sense. I think at this point our species isn't in any danger of becoming extinct so what practical benefit does lust bring anymore? None that I can think of.
  18. Alright MPC, you asked for it. Creationism isn't a science so it shouldn't be taught in science class.

You'd actually be suprised at the level of excrement that studies have found on keyboards, mice, door handles and such. Just because it doesn't come out of their hands does not mean that there still isn't trace elements, even if they do wash their hands. You'd be living in a dream world if you think everything is sterile. I wouldn't be surprised, I've heard about such studies. But I would be surprised if sitting naked on a bench after someone else did the very same was just as unhealthy as typing.
  20. He's done it before, according to the Old Testament. Babylon, for example.

As unhealthy as touching a door handle. As unhealthy as using a computer mouse at a public library. As unhealthy as shaking hands. I doubt it. Excrement doesn't come out of people's hands you know.
  22. That's kind of impossible, given the Jewish religion. You know, "God's chosen people".

In poorer countries people can't afford to buy clothing and they lead fairly unsanitary lives. I don't know about you, but I don't think it's very healthy to sit naked on a bench after someone else did it just before you; definitely some bacterial contamination there. It's also how we apply modesty. Every culture values modesty, but their expressions/applications of it are different. In the West it so happens to be that walking around naked is considered immodest by most people. In this case I think it best that the government side with that which will bug the least number of people - making public nudity illegal, that way no one gets offended. No one would get offended at someone walking around clothed in public, but people would get offended at someone walking around naked. I guess the question is asking more about if people *should* get offended at public nudity. And I guess that answer is relative, making it a moot point for objective discussion at least. Just like some people are offended at farting in public for instance; it's all a matter of if you want to be courteous to people around you, so I guess if you want to be courteous, clothe yourself.

Maybe in your experience. Believe me, I've heard quite a few shallow conversations that ring true the "untrue" stereotype. I also go to a University, mind you, not a liberal arts one. Do you think walking around naked contributes to or prohibits sexual thought?
  25. insane replied to a post in a topic in Off-Topic
The more you look at women in a purely sexual manner, the more you get into the mindset that women are objects made to fulfill your sexual desires. This leads to treating women as objects, or means to an end, which is hurtful.
