  1. I think that free will of any sort presupposes God's existence. If you believe in materialism, then humans are nothing more than atoms and molecules in a perpetual series of cause and effect. However, if God exists, and humans are not purely material beings, then of course, we can have free will. I lean towards free will, but obviously external things affect our decisions hardcore. I think hard determinism is something that is difficult to think about/grasp. Think about a court case. A criminal is presented before a judge. Question: Why punish him if he didn't have a choice in the murder? Answer: The judge didn't have a choice not to punish him. What a stupid question. But of course, is it really a stupid question, if they were predestined to ask it? I dunno, hard determinism just seems to cross the line and violate basic beliefs. Of course Death_by_Pod will come and argue that since we can never truly know the location of an electron based on the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, we only have probabilities of an action being performed. However this is irrelevant to us making choices - all it means is that we can never truly know what a person will "not choose" ahead of time. The person cannot control where his electrons will end up.

I don't know what Toronto's problem is with the Bruins this year. Statistically Toronto better than them but they keep losing :(
  3. I'm guessing people were making too many "nothing" articles and they were running low on database space or something. I'm not saying your article should have been removed, I'm just speculating on why they implemented this new policy.

Toronto blew out Washington 7 - 1. My only complaint is that McCabe and Kaberle only got one point each. I want to see them 1 and 2 in the league for defensemen scoring. They're 2 and 3 right now, with Pronger in the lead.
  5. That's like saying math is circular logic because you can't prove math without using math. It's true, you can't. Just like the scientific method cannot be proven using the scientific method. Everybody has unfounded beliefs.

    What say you now? :P
  7. Ask your parents if you can download it overnight. That way you won't be missing calls and it's not like you're actually on the net.
  8. I think he means in the off topic section. While it is a good idea in theory, there aren't too many food and drink topics in the off topic board. There are less about food than there were about music/movies, and that board isn't terribly active. It isn't inactive, but you can see where I'm going with this - it would be less active than M&M and thus probably pretty inactive. I like the idea, but until we get more topics about food and such in the off topic board I don't see the point.
  9. "Do they know it's Christmas" - Band aid.
  10. I dont think you shoudl teach children religion until they are a bit older. When at young ages children have a very high tendancy to belive everything they are tought and that includes Bible stories. Religion education should only be for 11+ and should be based on all the major religion including non-religion based philosophies not just the one that you follow or the one your teacher belives. Yes, heaven forbid children have any sort of belief system. That's totally bad for them.
  11. I've had the same problem - daylight savings doesn't seem to have any effect. I just ended up switching to an incorrect time zone that gave me the correct time.
  12. Nice edit. A fabrication of facts, unless you can cite a source that lists every Christian artifact and proof that they were made by a team of experts.
  13. So religion is a fairy tale? We actually have PROOF of things happening from relgion. I really do find that offensive. That's a laugh. Your logic path would be a laugh, if it existed.
  14. As far as your skepticism on Canada goes - members of the Conservative party of Canada are nicknamed Tories. I'm not sure how far it extends past that though.
  15. Creationism should be taught, but not in science class, as it's not science. It's a philosophy, and so should be taught in a philosophy class.

Bleh, Buffalo won. Miller stole the game from Toronto in the last five minutes by robbing 3 amazing scoring chances. The score was 7-4, though two of Buffalo's goals were empty netters.

Toronto plays Buffalo in half an hour. Although I'd love the Leafs to win I just don't think they can pull this one off. The Sabres have Afinogenov and Miller back, so they are healthier, albeit not totally healthy - but then again, they don't need to be healthy to be awesome.
  18. Is that so different from Christianity being based on a book? the man is right, the bible is essentially a load of stories, as are all religious texts as a matter of fact, but anyhoo, this Jedi Cult is exactely the same (albeit slightly more sarcastic) asa modern version of Christianity. Just that people don't accept it. I don't think anyone will ever accept a new religion as people actually believing it and not doing it for attention. Care to actually prove all this garbage you speak?

Another problem is - what percentage of sixteen and seventeen year olds are actually going to drink responsibly? Probably <1.

Exactly. The "good" that comes from alcohol is extremely tough to measure. That bad said, the bad that comes from alcohol is easy to see/measure. Thus it's going to be hard to argue for alcohol being more beneficial than harmful.

I've had numerous troubles with my iPod, so I might be switching over. I'm going to wait until the Zune has established itself first.
  23. I totally agree with that. I have a second cousin from canada - and he had NEVER heard of muse! I was totally shocked. He's 21 and a music heavy-user, so I was totally confused. IMO the strokes deserve alot more than what they get at the moment. Ditto. They are almost non-existent in North America. I don't get it, I honestly think they should be the biggest band in the world. To those living around the GTA - they came to Toronto for a show, and their venue was the docks. How small is that for a band like Muse?
  24. It's just what you're used to. For example, I've always played Halo2 with a controller that rumbles, and am usually the better of my ~10+ friends that play together. One time I got a no-name brand controller that didn't rumble, and you have no idea how crippled I was. I found out that I relied on how long/much my controller was rumbling to figure out how close I was to dying and if it was worth it to fight or run. It's crazy how much one thing can totally ruin you as a player. But of course if I had never used a rumble controller I would have used some other tell to tell me how close I was to dying. It was totally subconscious.
