8: The Monster The monster will tell you the truth about the doctor and ask you to take the Ring of Charos from the doctor. Go downstairs and pickpocket the doctor to complete the quest. The monster doesn't mention the Ring of Caros; he only says that you must find a way to stop him. I don't know how valid this is as proof, but I hope it helps: The creature convinced me to stop Fenkenstrain's experiment once and for all, and has told me the true history of Fenkenstrain's treachery. The monster doesn't mention how to stop him. Pickpocketing isn't mentioned. I'd suggest a change to part eight of the guide: The monster will tell you the truth about the doctor's treachery and ask you to stop him. To do so, go downstairs and pickpocket the doctor to complete the quest.

By comparison to other novels, it's patchy. I liked the first four chapters: the characterisation, dialogue were fantastic. But after the cemetery-scene it becomes a bit self-indulgent, although there are some highlights (the scene with the fireworks). The final chapter, though, is by far Joyce's finest writing - if you don't read the full book, the last 30 pages are worth a skim at least. As an example of Modernism, however, it's required reading. If you unsure about attempting Ulysses, then I'd suggest Jacob's Room, by Virginia Woolf, or Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, also by James Joyce, to act as a prelude for things to come.

For all the older players, how does the new BH update compare with the old wilderness? Can PKing be more profitable? Are old-school mage-bank PKs back?

Eh? You'll need to explain that to me. New Labour is not a socialist party. As for the banning of Savage, I just think this is another example of a New Labour posting this list in an attempt to recapture the initiative after a rocky month. The banning of a shock-jock is not the greatest violation of civil liberties to come from Jacqui Smith.
