  2. As Jemathonical said, there is a countdown timer on the top of the page in all the event posts. There will not be added a timer to the website or forum indexes, if that is what you mean. Laikrob
  3. Hi, As the others already mentioned, TETAU is first and foremost to satisfy our Australian members. The "normal" TET uses Euro friendly event times.

  6. Daddy Long-legs are not spiders. They are harvestmen (order Opiliones), which is an arachnid that haven't got poison glands or fangs. However there is something called Daddy Long-legs Spiders, a popular named used about the species Pholcus phalangoides and other species in the family Pholcidae. These feed on other spiders, like the common house spiders from the genus Tegenaria. What you said is a common urban tale, and is as true as the "On average every person eats 100 spiders in their sleep". Meaning not at all. Above quotes are from Wikipedia. And to scn64: Solifuges don't run that fast, and do not attack unless you look like a prey. Bonus info: My finger on the ground looks like a prey. -.-
  7. They cannot run faster than you.
  8. In addition to visiting school classes for educational purposes, I have also helped people getting over their fear of spiders. Most people can fortunately be cured without phychological help.

  10. Just want to make it clear that solifuges are arachnids but not spiders, despite their popular name "camel spiders". You are right about there being two specimens on the military picture, and the middle picture in my previous post shows the real size (the species in the picture is one of the biggest) much better.
  11. Solifuges are arachnids, but do not reach close to the size showed on the picture, where the good ol' fishing story trick is used. Solifuges are not venomous, but can deliver a painful bite (learnt the hard way in Egypt). Here are a few of them: From Israel: From Egypt, 30 seconds before said hard way learning: Please keep in mind I have small hands. : Edit: This picture better shows the jaws of the bugger that bit me:

  14. I keep several species of tarantulas (popular name for mygalomorph spiders belonging to Theraphosidae) and have kept other kinds of spiders, but I used to be scared of them - to the point where I scanned a room when I entered it, and any black dot on a wall was discreetly checked out. The fear of spiders is a natural instinct, and is actually very useful in areas with venomous spiders. I have been on day/week trips dedicated to invertebrates and reptiles in Thailand, Laos, Egypt and Israel. Some of the spiders there can cause some damage, but compared to what the venomous snakes and scorpions do, it's nothing. I have also been bitten by an unknown spider in Brazil, and watched a bump on my leg reach the size of a tennis ball while waiting for the doctor - knowing that one of the most killing venomous spiders (Phoneutria spp.) was common in the area, I was pretty pale at that point. :ohnoes: Not many spiders are venomous enough to kill a human, but I can assure you that neurotoxins and toxins attacking tissue are no joke. A few examples of tissue damages (Warning! Pictures are not pleasant.): http://www.ascendedhealth.com/brown-rec ... icture.htm http://www.badspiderbites.com/spider-id ... ures/feed/ I hope to work with spiders in one way or another some day. Hopefully finding alternative medical use for toxins - natural toxins are already used in treatment for several diseases.

The flood limit makes it possible for the Moderators to keep up with the spammers while contacting Admins for immediate bans. Hope you understand this, we have the flood limit to protect our users and forums against spam attacks. Laikrob, Tip.It Moderator

  23. I was suspended once, by my music teacher. My crime? Our band played the song "Rape me" by Nirvana. Since I am female, she found it very offensive that I sung that song. I asked her to read the lyrics, and tried explaining to her the art of words with several meanings. The male band members didn't even get a warning. :wall:
