Tutorial Island : Should Be Optional
i think that instead of tutorial island, there should be little miniquests that you have to do to do a skill. just like with runecrafting. this way, you get a small intro when you want to, and not all at once. it wouldnt have to be too hard of a quest. take fishing for example: for that skill, you would have to talk to the guy in the fishing shop in port sarim. he tells you that his shop needs a stock of fish. he wants you to go and fish some low level fish for him. he gives you your net and directs you to the nearest fishing ground. there, an npc meets you and teaches you how to fish. then you fish until you have the number of fish you need, then bring them back to the guy. he pays you some gp, you get some experience, and you get the fishing skill. easy. :)

Investigating the Wise Old Man
the only statue ive seen of any of the gods was the saradomin statue that was in the park in falador. it was pointing west, but i think that it was doing that because you had to dig just to the west of it for the pirates treasure quest. but then again, who are we to ingore even the smallest detail?

the help and advice board is your friend. also, i believe that rock crabs are members monsters. this in no way belongs on the general F2P board. sorry

Prepaid For Members
wait, you did send a payment, right? it sounds like you expected the phone company to pay them and then you reimburse the phone company. you do know that what is basically happening is that your calling jagex and telling them "hey, im going to pay, can you activate membership for me?" and theyre like "ok, send the money quick.", right? just making sure whats going on here.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
really? my uncles an archaeologist. goes digging through egypt or the mediterranian regions a few times a year. he brings me back tons of thing. pieces of anciet egyption pottery, fossilized sharks teeth, these cool cross shaped rock formations (completely natural, but they look just like a christian cross. in agnostic, but i find them entirely amusing) and even a trilobite one time. some pretty interesting stuff. anyway, back on topic. did anyone go and look through the historical writings yet on the jagex website? i would do it myself, but i wont be near my computer for the next 11 hours. :?

Downloads
my recommentions are googling "ad-aware se", and "spybot s&d". those are the two i use and as long as you make sure to update and scan weekly, you shouldnt really ever have to worry about things like spyware and other junk. i dont know the direct download site adress, cause i used download.com to get them. i know download.com is safe, though. ive scanned everything i have ever downloaded from them and its all turned up clean.

Remeber that quest....
phoenix FTW!! i hated that quest more than anything else in the game that ive seen to date for one reason alone: you need a friend to do it, and everyone else and their mother already did it and doesnt care to help out another person do it. once i did it, i tried to help some others but found it entirely difficult. after that, i simply avoided that spot for fear of other newbs asking me to help them. they really shouldve made that quest a bit more convenient for the second player who had to help you.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
indeed! i think that being able to summon stuff would seriously rock! imagine the implimentations for, say, basic animal summoning. you could go pking and summon a pack of wolves to assist you. you could summon cows to kill for hides. you could summon a horse to ride on. you could summon a rat to go into small spaces and get things for you. and thats just for basic animals! also, i never thought about that statue! maybe its tied to the whole thing. does anyone know what the statue is of? thats probably a big clue. and where is it facing? is it facing along one of the lines? parallel? perpendicular? maybe its facing towards a new site? have you even read the "strange book" found in the wom's house? the formulas are all there, all the hints are there. almost everything that this guys been going on is there. hes not using "pretend algebra". everything hes done is checking out so far. trust me, i know about math just as much if not more than you. after all, im 19, in college, in a major where advanced trig, algebra and calculus are all deeply involved, so i think i probably know just a bit more about the math than you do. the very fact that you feel you "need to be spoonfed everything by jagex", in your own words, there, shows me that you not only dont care for, but are apparently offended by free thinking with concerns to the analyzation of the world around you. if this is true, please go crawl back into your dark cave, replace your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and hum loudly to yourself so you can once again continue believing in your own little view of the world. thank you, and have a nice day. interesting viewpoint. repeating history might be what theyre after. but if thats the case, what we need to do is delve into the historic writings and see if and where history has already repeated and see if those incidents have anyting in relation to whats going on now. if not, then we can probably rule those out and go for stuff that hasnt repeated yet as those are most likely to repeat at this point. i dont think hes a fully fledged sara follower, though. more likely he was once a sara follower who got expelled for being corrupt in some way and now he has a grudge against them. this would explain why he can use sara strike. as of right now, he seems to be only using the tower for runes but who knows when hell up his attacks against it. in the meantime, we need to figure out whats with that statue, where its facing, whos it of, why the guy is building it, what parts of history we can relate to this whole situation and if that history has any unusual circumstances, like repetition, or being one of the few peices that dont repeat, and what piece of history is exactly revealed in the quest. ladies and gentlemen, you have your facts, available assignments, and resources neccesary. now take your pick, and go to it! BREAK!

Investigating the Wise Old Man
well, that was really mean. he got the equations from the books found when you search the bookshelves of the W.O.M.s house. if you read throught the "strange book" then everythings in there. jeez, why are you being soo mean to the guy? what did he do to you? i thought it was quite intriguing(sp?) how he figured all of theis stuff through without having access to any quests or anything involving the W.O.M. except that one book. yes, when jagex wants to, they will tell us whats going on, but for some of us, its fun to try to figure things out as they develope, not just sit around and wait for an answer to be handed to us. by the way, thanks for proving that your the impatient, mean spirited, idiot here with your unwarranted flaming.

New Skill...
ok, to clarify some concepts and answer some questions here: when building a ship, you need to use different skills only because the ship is made of different parts. you do need at least a sail, but a cannon is optional. mainly, youll need a mid to high level carpentry skill if you want to build your own ships. they probably wouldnt sell for much because they would be so common. probably a few k gp for the smallest ones, to maybe 1 or 2 mil for the biggest ones. you would be able to build bigger ships with higher carpentry skills. you would get sloops at low level, frigates at mid level, and warships at high level. the biggest differences between the ships are that the bigger ones hold more, can hold more cannons and require more people to operate efficiently. if you were going to sell a boat, you would have to sell the "deed" to it, not the actual ship itself. you would also only be able to own one ship at a time, maybe two. you wouldnt really need more than that anyway. when you visit a port destination, your ship will automatically appear in the marina after you talk to the local harbor master. you can get onto another persons ship through invite only. it will work in a similar fashion to the trade system. right click person X, select "sail with XXXX", they right click you and select "invite to sail YYYY". once a part of the crew, you sail for one trip. you can sail again by repeating the request to sail process. you would gain your sailing xp by safely making it to your destination, which you pick from a map before setting sail. once you pick your destination (you can only pick destinations that you have sailed to/from. you get one destination in a quest that starts you off on the skill, like runecrafting. then you must walk/tele to other ports and talk to the harbor master to get a new destination added to your sea chart) you get a chart that tells you where to sail to make it there the quickest. you dont have to follow the path, but theres more dangers the farther away you stray from the path. the more dangers you face and live through, the more xp you gain, plus a bonus for just getting from point A to B, based on the distance you go. if you have a cannon on board as well as a grappling hook (coil of rope and a smithed steel/iron hook assembly) then you can shoot at and board another player (and a few npc)'s vessel and fight them. you win when you either sink their ship with the cannon or kill them all in combat. then you get an amount of whatever everyone was carrying, be it cargo, gp, armor, etc. of course, without some kind of seafaring merchant task, the high seas would be all pirates, pking other innocent players. each destination port has a special market that trades lots of goods via sea. you go to these markets, and put a deposit down on a contract to transport some goods for a price per unit, then its loaded onto your boat and you sail it to the destination(provided you have sailed there before) and get paid for the trip plus you get your deposit back when you arrive. this is a good way to get money and would deter pk'ing pirates because when they sink a merchanting ship like that, all they get is a section of the ships cargo, which they can sell off at any port for a lower price. if your crew is successful, you all get a cut of the pay. if not successfull, well you get a free trip back to port and you lose the deposit you put down for the cargo. so you see, this could be just as involved a skill as combat if you put soe work into it. also, a very lucrative one.

Jagex has laughs too.
it wouldve been funnier if one of them were named "andrew" or "zezima".

New Skill...
i always thought a sailing/piracy skill would be cool. you could use carpentry to build a ship, smithing to build nails, cannons, and canonballs. crafting would let you make a sail, and your sailing/piracy skill would let you navigate around sea hazards and other ships.

you have lvl 99 everything, what now?
well maybe i don't like the search button, get a life come on, only say that when there is a topic of it on the 1st page of the forum well, thanks for quoting me(i think), but that isomething you should do. in this case, i dont recall seeing a topic like this, so your ok for posting it... this time. but im watching you! () i would probably go and get the best of the best stuff that i could find, get a bunch of really expensive f2p stuff, then go someplace that relatively deserted, and give away one item to everyone i see until i had no more. then id call them all noobs, just to see how theyd react. id probably spend the rest of my time going around trying to find people tat have similar levels, and make fun of those that are only slightly lower than me. basically, id be a complete, flaming... donkey.

Odd item combinations

boy friend? girl friend? marriage? guh?
that was in my sig. i had to remove it to make room for the new stuff :( but yeah, i think this whole marriage thing is just quite a bit stupid. why bother getting "married" in a game where your supposed to be selfsufficient?? i once saw a guy in the falador bank shouting "need gf! will give good presents!!". he was also failing miserably at getting a gf. i laughed and made emoticons at him until he gave up and logged. it was stupid and funny. ah well. at least we can get some good laughs out of them.

I found out something today!
i went and examined that dog. did you know it was emaciated? thats why it never gets up from in front of the fire. its too thin and weak to. know that other dog in the chiken coop? that one has survived by killing and eating chickens. i gave the sheepdog some bones and some cow and chicken meat and it gulped everything down like it was starving. ive called the local animal cruelty shelter and their waiting to get a warrant for the arrest of the neglagent farmer so they can take all those poor, dying animals away. after doing some investigation of my own, i found out that he was breeding the cows specifically for being killed by locals for entertainment and food and being paid to do so by the white knights. the chickens were being slaughtered for the same reasons but for some strange reason, he decided that the pigs were not going to be up for death. maybe he likes them. anyway, im hoping that this sicko gets busted big time and that he ends up in that maximum security prison near draynor for life. its less than what he deserves for putting those poor animals through all of that.

sometimes, i like being a bit evil... just a bit...
you know how sometimes, even though you try your best, even though your as nice as can be all the other times, sometimes you just cant help but be evil to another person? post about some of those times here. im not talking about being downright mean and nasty, or anything that breaks a rule, but those times when your minding your own business and someone comes along and annoys you for the millionth time and your fed up with it. or the times when your so bored, that you walk around playing tricks and generally being a nuisance(sp?) to all the newb and noobs. for example, when i get really bored, or when im trying to sell something, and theres a bunch of people busily typing soo much that i have a hard time reading through the chat box to tell whos doing what, i go to my bank, get out some runes, and shout "selling (insert expensive object here)!" i wait until i get at least ten trade offers, then type "fooled you!" and tele away to another town. i had a friend stay behind to watch the confusion and he said some of them were like "what, did he trade anything to anyone?". sometimes, id get them pming me demanding that i trade them. its generally funny.
