Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
I can't wait till this is finished either, and I think I may just tile some parts, as I need to get this done in about a week - just found out we're moving house! And I probably won't get internet access back straight away, and I don't want to leave you all hanging. :P Footprints... uh... yeah, I did something with them in the previous attempt at grass (*hiss*), but I'll fix them up once the grass reaches them. ^^ Grass overlapping. *notes down* Nearly forgot about that - can't do it straight away though, as I'm using GraphicsGale and the grass is on a different layer from the other stuff like the salamander and the character. :P I'll keep that in mind though - nearly forgot about it. ><

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Darn, caught out. :P Yep, I used the examples from Zoggles for the grass, took a bit of trial and error to change the perspective from what they did (top view) to a more of a side-ish view like what you see on the pixel now. I didn't try to tile them - every time I do that it looks terrible for me. >< So yeah, I did draw them all separately, and it was a very difficult thing to do for a few hours. If it gets too tedious doing them separately, I'm going to have to copy-paste them then edit the copies. Yeah, I haven't done the background at all yet, but I am going to do a sort of foresty scene - very thick forest that sort of fades into the background as the trees go into the distance. If I can wrangle it, I might do a bit of moonlight peeking through, but not so sure about that. :P EDIT: Pomar, I can't currently work on anything other than this (and Aesahaettr's pixel avatar he won up there... *points*), but I can give you linkage to the grass tut I used and based my grass on - here. :)

Wow, nazgul back pixeling?
Eeeee! I like the fire. :D The fire is spiffy. The tree doesn't look too bad for a spraycanned bit of the pixel, but maybe you could roughen up the texture just a little to make it look like the bark of the tree, cause right now it's very smooth - that is, unless you planned it to be that way, which in that case ignore everything in this paragraph. ^^ Not too many other comments on the shading as it's still a shading-WIP, but the clothing isn't too bad either, just needs a little more shading. :) Welcome back to pixelling. :P (and psst, I'm a she. ;))

Cheers, rik, I'll give that a go if this attempt doesn't do any well either. Sadly, I didn't use the spraycan (which would have saved me a heck of a lot of time if I did, and it would've created the same effect as well... ><)... but anywhoo, last night before I went to bed I decided to have another go at the grass - all over again. *shudder* I've only done a little bit of it, so any comments about it are once again greatly taken in. Fortress, I'll try to put that in - good idea. :D

Thanks for pointing that out, Shade. :D Cookie goes to you. At second glance, yeah, it did need fixing up, and I have done so accordingly in this next UPDATE! sasdfwerasdgadjvbidsf. I hate grass so. much. I'm avoiding grass in my next pixel. I can't stand the sight of it anymore. Worked about four or five hours on the grass alone (not straight of course, that's unhealthy. :P), but I couldn't quite pull off the effect I had achieved in the top patch of last update. :| Not cool. Did the best I could with lighter-shaded grass where the fire will be, and around the glowing butterfly jar as well. Will probably re-do the prints again - tried to make them 'spottable', but also inconspicuous, and ended up making them a little too dark. So that's back on the drawing board next update, as well as an attempt at the background which will hopefully be a whole lot kinder to me than the grass was. If worse comes to worst, and I get enough "pmg your grass sux0rz", I'm going to have to dive into the cesspool of green again. *cringe* Tips to help me on my grassy problem are well and truly appreciated, and will be rewarded with not just one virtual cookie, but two. Yes, two. I know. Wow. ;)

pixel
If you insist that I rate it, My_Eggs has the right idea about it - 1/10, I'm afraid. It looks like you spent a grand total of about five minutes on this sig - rule number one in pixelling, and in sig making in general, at least put some effort into your work. Don't just shove what is essentially an uncompleted sig into everyone's faces and ask them to rate it. Two, you used the default Paint colours. Double click on one of the colours and it'll come up with a big colour picker thing. That's what you use to pick colours - don't feel like the default colours on the bottom are what you're restricted to. Three, have you taken a look at any of the (mindblowingly incredible) pixel guides here on Tip.It? They're up there in the sticky. Take a look at them, and take their advice. That's how I went from where I was to where I am now. The guides are an excellent resource - take the initiative and use what you have available. I vaguely wonder if what I just typed in this reply will be noticed in even the slightest.

Law running
And tell me why someone would go to 99? Because, face it, unless you're completely loaded (with about 50m+ worth of ess to burn from 54 rc to 91), 99's a whole lot cheaper for the crafter, and faster to get a trade for the runner.

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
The grass was done very roughly, didn't catch most of the massive in-between spaces. :P I'll fix that up, but thanks for your opinion. ^^ And you got the bag guess correct! You win... a free pixel avatar! PM me with some specifications and such, like what you want in it or whatever. It doesn't have to be at Tip.It's avvy specs if you want to use it in another forum instead. :) There is some small print to this prize - send me a bag of Doritos... We're Dorito-deprived down here! XD

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Aw, making me feel really good, Bloodredsword and Reddawn. :D And because of that, I've gotten myself together and got some work done, so here is the resulting UPDATE. YAYS. Not much development this update, did the box trap and the chinchompa at the back, albeit not very well... may fix that up in the future. Also did the two bags, one being a bag of marshmallows (as labelled... ;)), and the other, now that it has some vague details, you should be able to hazard a guess at what it is. First person to guess... well... gets something special from me. :D As you can also see from the middle of the pixel, I've started a little bit of work with the grass. Used two slightly different techniques for both the top and bottom patches of grass, and I'd appreciate any opinions as to which you think is the better looking patch. I swear, grass is quite possibly the hardest thing to pixel. X_X Yet again, C/C's are very gladly accepted. Thanks for the support, everyone. This piece is well on it's way to being finished. :D

Pixel W.I.P. C/C Plz
Agreed with Nadril, grass is uber bright. If you use Paint, go a little lower on the big square colour-picker thing, toward the greys. Gives the grass less of a glaring look and makes your pixel all of a sudden easier on the eyes. :) Have you decided on a light source? If there's going to be the sun in the white space above the grass, you'll want the shading to be directed toward the sun and not toward the viewer. Good luck, mate. :D

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Oooh, you are sneaky, aren't you, Mementh? :P I guess you could stick it into your blog (with due credit of course... ;)), but I'm afraid my greediness strikes on the second request - I'd appreciate it if you didn't use it. Sorry mate. =| Hope you understand. Reck, thank-ees, I like the colours also. I think I might have to attempt my first anti-aliasing with the salamander though... seems like it's going to contrast too much with the grass. >< Regardless, I give you all another UPDATE! Yay, updates! I've slowed down a little since yesterday as my inspiration is running a little dry at the moment. Had a very difficult time shading the tent as it either looked boring and plain or it looked tacky. Hope I got it right in the end though. >< I loved doing the butterflies in the jars, though, it was great fun trying to make them 'glow' in the jars. Any comments on this? Did some basic colours for the chinchompa/box trap (which still isn't looking too good, but hopefully it won't look too bad once it's fully shaded), and the bags of stuff beside me. Will finish those tomorrow and begin on quite possibly the thing I'm dreading most - the grass. Yet again, C/C's are rewarded with cookies. :D Thanks!

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Mementh, I'm flattered, but I'm long due to treat myself with a signature (can you believe that I've never actually finished one for myself... ever?). Sorry. ;_; But in consolation, I bring you an... UPDATE! Shaded and pixelled the character to the right. Had a terrible time doing so - I found out today that I can't pixel any sort of cloth-like texture... at all. As you can probably tell with my attire in the pixel, it's not quite Runescape-esque as she's wearing sneakers. :P As you can tell, I changed the lighting on the salamander and it looks a bit better this way, in my opinion. Also shuffled the box and the chinchompa around (I did this last update, but forgot to announce it)... doesn't look as wonky as before but still looks a bit iffy. =| I'm quite happy with the hands, actually, which is new considering I always detested pixelling hands. In this pixel, I'm not happy with the aforementioned cloth texture and the eyes... I can't stop myself from looking evil in pixels! I'm not evil... ;_; Once again, C/C's are appreciated. :) Next on my agenda: the background stuff and the bags of marshmallows and the something-else-you-have-to-guess that I took out of this update as it was obstructing the view of the character. They'll make a return next update though. :D And once again, I've rambled... I really have to stop doing that. ><

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Xman: Yeah, planning to have a nice thick forest of trees that fade into the background (I have a vague idea of how I'm going to do that, but have yet to actually try it out... ><). Hopefully it doesn't look too monotonous, but we'll see. ^^ UPDATE! You know when you start something and say you're only going to do this much and then move onto the next thing? Well, when I told myself I was just going to do two-toned shading for now just to get a feel of it, I kinda... uh... got carried away when I started on the salamander. Note to self: start on something other than your favourite bit in the pixel. Anyway, these are the fruits of my labour. Salamander shading, surprisingly, took a relatively little time when compared to the hours I spent on linework (guh, I hate linework). Took about an hour to get the colours and shading to co-operate and look "right", but I'm pleased with the result. The colours picked, now that I see them, look a bit Terley-ish. :P Shuffled around a few of the pawprint positions, looks alright-ish now on a darker background, but that lousy box trap is still taunting me. It's just asking for a bloody redraw. >> I also downsized the marshmallow to see what it looked like - I think I may have mini-ed it too much. XD C/C please. :D EDIT: Oh wow, I do start rambling sometimes, don't I? o_o EDIT TWO: Hmm... is it just me or is the lighting on the salamander's body a bit iffy?

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Thanks for the compliments, everyone. :D They make me feel all fuzzy inside, like a chinchompa. Erm... scratch that. I'll try to do my best with the shading. *salutes* :P Nazgul, be my guest. ^^ Try away. :P It was indeed intended to be a night scene anyway. :) G'luck with it, and if you manage to fix up that bloody box trap, even better. XD
-
Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
I did say it was impossibly large... :D I think I might downsize it though... compared to either one of the bags, they'll fit about three marshmallows max at this rate. XD But yes, I'm trying to figure out how the heck I'm supposed to fix that stupid box trap. >< I'm trying to get a perspective reference from ingame, but still nothing. Going to have to do some major fixing before I colour. Blah. Maybe I'll try shuffling the box trap and the chinchompa's positions...

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Cheers for the comment, Tom. :) I bring you another update! Whoo! No colouring as of yet though, but I've got the basic colours in my head right now, and once I finish up this round of lineart I'll get to work. ^^ Some of the extra bits I'm not so happy with, so I'd appreciate any suggestions to improve it. The pawprints and the box trap don't feel like they're on the right angle, so any tips on that would help a lot. :) The pawprints, I think, will look a little more natural and not as... wonky?... once I add the rest of the ground in. The fire-ish lines are just to give me an idea on how I might do the fire, and the logs'll be roughened up and individualised so they don't look so uniform back there, and the same with the butterfly jars. Sack-like things beside the person are a bag of marshmallows and a bag of something else you'll have to guess once I get to detailing it. ;) Thanks again. ^^

Oh wow, what a coincidence - the pixel I'm working on now fits into your criteria. :o Mind if I enter it in? :P WIP is posted in the gallery here. Cheers PJB. ^^ *vaguely wonders if anyone else is going to join*

Who Needs A Tinderbox? [Pixel - Completely Finished. =D]
Inspired by the new Hunting skill (which I'm getting slightly addicted to), I just wanted to have a bit of fun with the uber cool new fire-breathing salamanders. : Plan here is to have a sort of camping feel to the image, and having me toast an impossibly large marshmallow by the fire - but I seem to have forgotten my tinderbox. Pyromaniacs ftw! FINISHED! Re-finished, edited according to c/c. Thanks go to dark_shadow for the text placement suggestion. ^^ C/C on the pixel is greatly appreciated. :D (lets hope I actually finish this one... ;))

Do You Have a Strange Addiction To a Skill?
A lot of people'll think I'm weird after this, but my strange addiction is Farming of all skills. I can't get enough of my Ranarr seeds and tree seeds. Every time someone says "seed sale" anywhere, I immediately rush to trade them to see if there are any seeds that I feel like buying at the time. It's a terrible addiction. ><

Tip.It Times Presents: An Interview with Gregechidna6
Excellent, excellent article, very much appreciated, Greg and The Editor. :) Always wondered what it was like back in RSC (only started a couple of years ago). I remember when RSC was available to F2P... I tried it, and sadly got incredibly bored of it after a while since it was very difficult to do just the Tutorial Island section. Just shows how much easier Runescape is. But once again, great read. Kudos to you. ^^
