"I'm leaving TIF" Sticky.
Ah but if a respected member of TIF were to leave and announce it using a thread rather than the hypothetical sticky, it would give other people (who, lets face it, people might not know or even care about) the idea that they should post a thread to let others know they're leaving. It should be the same rules for everyone, regardless of how much they are respected. I concede, however that since there have only been four threads of this nature, it is a little early in the day to introduce a sticky.

How'd you feel about strenuous walking [Hiking]?
I'll walk for a couple of things and enjoy it. I'll walk for a good photo, I would walk for hours if I knew I'd be guaranteed a good shot with nice light. I also walk for a long time for golf, I will be taking up climbing soon (bouldering - I have a fear of heights. Please don't laugh) And should I ever conquer my fear of heights, I might climb a small mountain in Scotland with a tent, and a laptop and my camera. So I enjoy walking if it's for a reason, walking for the sake of walking isn't my idea of fun. :P

I've got good grades in all my prelims - so I'm getting my first lens tomorrow! Canon EF 50mm F1.8 MKII - it's gonna be great! Anyone got any tips for building up a lens collection?

"I'm leaving TIF" Sticky.
I think that a sticky should be introduced into the main forums not related to RuneScape or ArenaScape. On the first page alone, there are three topics - that's four people (two in one thread) - announcing their departure on the Off-Topic forum. I don't know about you, but I find it irritating, I go to the Off-Topic forum to discuss things, not look at posts saying that someone is leaving. I don't think that those leaving should have to toddle off and let no one know but I think there must be a better way of letting people know. It's been done for the RuneScapers, so why not give the other users the same thing? Does anyone else agree with me and if they do, have you have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Ban "+1"
I agree to a point... If someone saw an argument and agreed with the original poster, they might say: "+1 because... " Then that would be the only exeption, but in general, I have to agree that it is annoying and should be discouraged at least.

Would any of you be interested...
I support - make a support list :P

Congratulations - at least you have at least two other EOS digital series users to help you when it comes to lens buying. It's pretty darned similar to my 20D I believe

The crop factor is related to the size of the sensor. If you have a full-frame (large) sensor, then there is a crop factor of 1 - so you times the focal length of your lens by the crop factor to get the effective focal length (what it actually is) I can tell you for a fact that the 400D has a crop factor of 1.6 so you times your focal lengths by that - you have an APS-C sized (smaller) sensor which gives that crop factor. I will edit this post later when I have more time to explain it in full. I hope this helps just now. If you have time you could try putting crop factor or focal length conversion into wikipedia. They are the same thing. EDIT: This might explain it slightly better than I did. Canon EOS 400D/Digital Rebel XTi Type: digital single lens reflex camera Sensor: CMOS APS-C 22.2 x 14.8mm (1.6x conversion factor) Maximum resolution: 10.10 effective megapixels, 3,888 x 2,592 Lens type: Canon EF lens mount, Canon EF-S lens mount Shutter: focal-plane , vertical travel, mechanical Shutter speed range: 1/4000 to 30 sec, 1/200s X-sync Exposure Metering: full aperture TTL, 35-zone SPC Exposure Modes: automatic shiftable Program, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, Auto Depth-of-field, Full auto, Programmed modes, Manual, E-TTL II autoflash program AE Metering modes: Evaluative, Partial (approx. 9% at center of viewfinder), Center-weighted average Focus areas: 9 AF points Focus modes: One-Shot, Predictive AI Servo, automatic switching Autofocus; Manual Focus Continuous Shooting: 3 fps for 27 JPEG frames or 10 RAW frames Viewfinder: Eye-level pentamirror SLR, 95% coverage, 0.8x magnification ASA/ISO range: ISO 100̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ1600 Flash E-TTL II: automatic built-in pop-up, 13m ISO 100 guide number, 27mm (equivalent in 135 format) lens focal length coverage; compatible with Canon EX Series Speedlite external hotshoe-mount flashes Custom WB: Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten Light, White Fluorescent Light, Flash, Manual, user-set WB bracketing +/- 3 stops in 1-stop increments; Rear LCD monitor: 2.5 in. color TFT LCD, 160̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâð viewing angle, 230,000 pixels Storage: CompactFlash Card Type I & II Battery: NB-2LH Battery Pack Weight: 510g (body only), 126.5 x 94.2 x 65mm (W x H x D) (Specifications taken from wikipedia)

Wow, this thread sorta died back there didn't it? :P Onto business: If you want to send me a link to the site selling the lens, I can get more information. I'm assuming that it's the EF 90mm-300mm F4-5.6 though. I've heard that its a fairly good lens but it isn't the sharpest lens out there. This is a good lens to have in your bag, there is a cheaper Tamron, but the build quality and handling are reported to be better. Most of the canon lenses now are compatable with the EOS series, Canon's relatively new system. I say relatively new as they have many film cameras in the EOS range. THe mount that you'll be after is ideally an EF mount. This allows you to use the lens on any EOS camera including the full frame 5D, 1D, 1Ds and the 1D MK II. An EF-S mount is only compatable with the Canon's D-SLRs with a smaller APS-C size sensor. The lens I recommended is for D-SLRs only, but it's of superb build quality for the price. Oh yeah, you might want to remember the crop factor of 1.6. This means that a 90mm-300mm lens would become a 144mm-480mm lens. I'm saving for the lens I recommended to you, just be sure to order any third party lenses in a Canon mount.

Dream Job
Professional photographer would be my dream job, but for a realistic job, perhaps working in a camera shop or a dentist if I can work hard enough.

Tsk tsk tsk. Never split the composition in two. The rule of thirds is a fantastic compositional rule. Rule of thirds I'd describe it, but I've got a 200 word french folio piece to learn for tomorrow. I'd best get started! If you look at a few of my photos and imagine the third lines, you'll see I hold this compositional rule very highly. Just a wee reminder to everyone who uses digital cameras :P

What Exercise do YOU do?
Well... Monday, I golf after school - don't knock the health benefits of golf. Tuesday, I have PE (Table tennis/badminton) then an hour of badminton after school. Wednesday: I swim after school. Thurday: I swim after school again. Friday: Swimming after school. Saturday & Sunday: Golf, but not 'till March - not a member of a club 'till then. I try to go out taking photos these days. If you think lugging all my equipment about isn't excersise, you're sadly mistaken. Also, when shooting photos I'll occasionally have to set the timer and run to remove a distraction. Last week it was a branch next to a river, I got pretty wet and the branch didn't get moved but I got an extra distraction in it: my arm. I walk my two dogs for a few miles every day too. How's that for excersise? :XD:

Donating blood?
The needle is pretty big. My sister has given blood a few times and the first time, she had to stop half way through as she went really white and was, as knives669 said, light headed. So they whipped the needle out and started giving her lots of fluids and sugar. I will be giving blood when I'm old enough as my mum needed a few blood transfusions and my dad would have died after the car crash if blood wasn't available. So I think it's a good idea to give blood. What's a few minutes of pain plus a few days of discomfort compared to someone losing a loved one because people were too afraid to give blood. Go on! Save a life!

General Internet immaturity
Or a locked topic  Nods at my vanity topic. Immaturity ruined my topic. I wanted a serious topic about what could be a problem, yet most of the people who repied were just immature and made predictable jokes, hence the lock. I'm kinda sick of immature posters who just think that every thread is an opportunity for them to make a joke. There's a whole FORUM dedicated to jokes and "fun" things. They could let off all their immaturity there and come and make constructive posts, but they don't. It just annoys me when a topic has potential and is ruined by a few immature people wanting a quick chuckle.

Edited screenshots, I don't really like them, though I don't really like runescape related stuff (yeah, I am on a runescape tip site) 4/10

Top Gear
Puncture. It probably would have been less likely to happen had they used hard tyres. I saw it too, and I watched the crash too. Not the highlight of the show. I liked the road work project. A great start to the new series and it is good to see that Richard is okay.

Your favourite calculator word?
Same here, though I got a graphic calculator for maths and you can type anything - it has all the letters from A-Z  I love it, when you're bored you can draw sine graphs together so it looks funny. Y1=sinx Y2=sin0.5x Y3=sin0.75x Y4=sin0.25x Y5=sin0.125x Y6=sin0.875x And so on. That's better than talking with calculators

What happens when someone knowing 0 about PS make something?
Download some brushes, filter packs rarely work out well. I learned alot from fiddling about like that, but I prefer working with brushes, renders and layers. Read some tutorials, they will help you a great deal.
