I'd be in - but with school and such, I might not have time to take photos interpreting a certain theme each month, so could you submit older photos?

Help Me Buy A Lens!
I'm left with just over ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã400 in my bank after buying the body, I can't afford to waste it on what potentially could be a broken lens. I'm looking for something that can be used in the long term for perhaps a decade or two to come

Photo's galore; trip to Mogo Zoo
Now, since you asked that question, I'm going to answer that fairly critically - as always! First off, I'm not going to comment too much on the photos that couldn't be planned. Obviously the shots of the lions and other wild life are difficult and I believe that your focal length was limited (I think I can see effects of digital zoom in one or two of them). On the whole, most the wildlife photos aren't too bad, good snap shots, but no more I believe. However, landscapes are photos that can be planned. I don't know what camera you were using but I'm sure that there is possibly a manual or at least semi-manual mode. The next time you take the camera out you should read the instructions so you can utilise the creative functions of digital. For the above image you could have straightened the horizon and if you used the manual exposure mode, you could have prevented burning out the sky by over exposing it slightly. In this image you have a terribly wonky horizon, which can work when shooting birds flying, this can create a sense of freedom, but with landscapes, it's best to stick to straight horizons. The good thing is, you haven't burnt out the sky so you must have metered for it on the foreground. Burnt out sky, but I doubt you wanted critisism on that. Perfect, saturated sky - perfectly exposed too and it roughly abides to the rule of thirds. Brilliant. A little busy for my liking. However, it is compositionally sound. The bridge is nicely framed by the trees and the sky is perfectly exposed. Pretty good! I love this shot, it's a different angle of a beautiful, yet over photographed, piece of architechture. I love how the boat is the subject but is only second to the grandeur of the opera house. The sky's nicely exposed too. A postcard worthy shot. I hope you had a great time at the zoo with your family. You have great potential photographically. Keep at it! Please note: I have the flu at the moment and am not feeling very well, hence the short critisism on each image

Help Me Buy A Lens!
I've recently bought a Canon EOS 20D body only. I am interested in buying a standard lens and a telephoto lens maybe 70mm-300mm. I was wondering if you could let me know what you think of getting lenses from the internet, I think they might get damaged in the mail, and what Brittish sites you would recommend, if any. Also would you recommend EF mounts or EF-S mounts, Sigma, Tamron or Canon lenses. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Oh yeah, my price range for a lens could maybe go up to ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300, I'm still at school and don't have a part time job, but I can get a job during the summer and stuff.

You get some really wierd looks when you start using tissues as flash diffusers or reflectors :XD:

Link to camera It has a built in flash as you can see there. I guess you could try putting tissue paper over the flash bulb to diffuse it. It softened my flash on my old compact, so there is no reason why it should not work with you.

The Penguin Base- comment and c/c please
I have a photo that might work for the winter theme. Is it a serious signature or humourous? I'll find it and post it for you. I was thinking of a person through the mist like this, maybe not fishing as the water has frozen. Also, the snow covered hills as a backdrop would finish it off. How's that?

Photos from snowy Finland
I'm not a fan of them. The first one has a poor depth of field, if you were shooting with a compact or an SLR style camera, you could have had the branches as lead in lines if you switched to the macro facility. The second from the top has a nice idea, but the problem is that it's not one or two footprints in the snow, its lots, plus tyre tracks. Had you been up earlier you could have marched about in the snow and taken a photo of that. Compositionally, the third photo is fine, but there isn't anything there to grab the viewers attention. If you had someone with you, you could have got them to stand somewhere with their phone out or something, so there's something going on in the shot. The fourth is okay, but again isn't quite straight. I would personally have avoided taking a photo with a distraction in the left vertical third of the shot. The snow should act as a reflector to the light, making you require a faster shutter speed, you must have had a tiny apeture for that, but you've got camera shake in the third from the bottom, very noticable too. The focus isn't very good, the foreground is blurred, the composition is cluttered, not great. The second last shot isn't straight but other than that fine. You should have the trees at a 90 degree angle to the bottom of the image. I've made mistakes like that too, but I don't know any photoshop techniques to correct it. The last shot has the bottom front leg cropped off. Ideally you should be leaving a small border around the edge if you intend on printing and framing. I always do this, so that you never leave out the main subject. You can clone out, but you can't clone in. However, it is a nice subject for a shot if composed well. I'm sorry if you think that this was a little harsh, that was not my intention. I just want to give the best advice that I can.

Do You Play a Musical Instrument? Which One?
I've played the keyboard since 2001 and am now sitting at grade 5/6. I also play the clarinet, since 2003 and am at the same grade as my keyboard. I've taken standard grade music, I'm not awful at it but so many terms to learn. Inventing is fun. :P

Help me find a book to read
Actually it's probably just an American literature class. All the junior classes in my state have to do American history tied with literature in their Junior year. Color/colour has nothing to do with it. Ah that would make more sense. I'm from Britain, where we just do literature essays and stuff like that, from no particular place.

Help me find a book to read
I didn't think of Steinbeck, but now you mention it: "Of Mice And Men" is a good book to write an essay on. There's alot to say about it. I feel that restricting you to American authors is a bad move. There are many other great authors in other parts of the world. Perhaps asking your teacher if you can read a book by an author from outside America, would make it a little easier. If they say yes, William Golding's "Lord Of The Flies" is a great choice. Thinking about the reasoning for picking an American author, I think I now know why they restricted it to Americans. Different spellings. When you quote something and say it had the word "colour" in it, you might have the urge to spell it color. I would think if you must do an American book, "Of Mice And Men" is a great book. For some information on the author? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Steinbeck

Camera buying help
Yeah I suppose that's true, but I have 2+ years 'till I can apply for university. I can work full time for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã120 a week over the summer. So maybe I could save up that way?

Camera buying help
I need help. I've seen a Canon EOS 20D body for under ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã400, but it's body only. The seller has no kit lens as he dropped it. I have been after a Digital SLR for ages, and this is a great semi-proffesional camera. The only thing is, I need to prove to my parents that it's a good camera. They suggested that I take my memory cards and take some photos with it. I don't know if there are any checks that camera retailers can carry out and present the camera with a certificate to prove that it it working. If there are any, I wouldn't mind paying extra. This is a great chance for me to improve my photography, and I can afford getting a standard lens and a 90-300mm lens with the body. The only problem is, it might make a university degree difficult due to lack of funds. I'm not sure if I want to spend that long in education. I'm telling you all this as it might help you with any advice you give. So I want your advice on whether or not I should buy it, get it tested (and where/how) or go to university. I'll take it all into consideration. Please help!

because i already posted sometime before some pretty good pictures i made on 1 of those site's (don't remember wich) but i said that they didn't may use it and later i found some people using my pictures on other sites :-s #-o :wall: You can get copyright laws onto them! :XD: i did got copyright on them but the most people don't mind and try to get rid of it and say that the name on it is there nickname on another site :-k :wall: its realy anoying and thats why i now don't post much of graph. stuff here even not paintbrushed or something like that   Yeah, it's a shame that you aren't allowed to water mark your work here. However, most administrators of forums take copyright issues very seriously and will possibly give out the IP adress of the offender (if you can prove that you took it that is) so you can take it further. I don't bother with mine as no one can blow up the photos very big as they're resized.
