Money easier to get now?
Both. :P Newer players always struggle hard to get small amounts like 10K, but that's basically because: - They lack the patience for money making (omg I've been mining forever I have 60 iron ores) - They lack knowledge for money making (selling 437 feathers 4gp ea!!) On the other hand.. Money making has become easier through the years, although I don't think it changed much for the lower leveled players (iron ore and coal mining, and nowadays rune essence mining are about just as profitable as they were 3 years ago). It did change a lot for the higher skilled (and especially p2p) players though. They used to make 100 - 200K / h max, 3 years ago, and can make multiple times that now.

Don't need to post threads multiple times in different boards, so I'm locking this one. Nice news item though :P. ~Locked

New fastest route from 21-99 mage (now under 4 hours)
Interesting... If it really is so "easy" to sell your nats there, then I wonder how many people are going to do that and how long it'll last till Jagex removes that possibility because they figured out it gives mage exp too fast / makes it too 'buyable'. ;)

What nobody noticed about the magic update
Let's just assume this new mage training place would be and stay popular, what would happen? The demand for nat's would stay the same or rise slightly. There will be less demand for yew longs as people will alch them less now, thus the yew long price will drop. Yew long production may or may not drop as a result of the lower prices, but i personally dont think the production of yew can go down much. Thus we have a static production and yet a decreasing demand of yew longs. Eventually this will make high-alching turn break-even again (opposed to the loss you make by high alching right now) and perhaps even profitable. In turn, this will make normal high alching more attractive again. I doubt it would have much influence on the economy and the gp creation, even if this new mage training place would be popular.

What would you do with a d chain drop?
If you don't share, telling your friends before you go there would be nice too, if they do expect you to share.

Very nice of you, but this is the discussion board :). Maybe you could help out people in the help and advice board. Tip.it provides great quest guides though, so I doubt there will be (m)any f2p quest questions :). ~Locked

Merchanting or RuneCrafing? Which do you find better?
RuneCrafting is the best for most people yes.

Party Hat Drop Indicates a Healthy Market
Most likely a result of people cashing out their masks and santa's and moving that cash in the only other wearable rare available: phats. The point is: it's very possible that the same people will do the same thing again, but then the other way around. They were, yes. But even I have to agree that it's a sign of a healthy market when the prices crash ~20% on one night, then not continue to drop the days after and even reestablish and go back up 10%. It shows there's resistance at lower prices, which means that the current prices aren't too unrealistic.

The million-dollar student
A very creative yet insane idea. Was executed well and combined with a bit of luck it became a lucrative idea. It's the hype he (with help of that marketing advisor) created around it that led to the succesion. Congratulations to the british student. That was my first reaction too. Did you check the number of page hits though? Sure it may be untargetted adverts and sure the website is not visited by people who want to look at the adds really (no website is?) but I suppose the massivity at which people visit the site could make it worthwhile for the investors anyway... It's the massive hype around it that made it a success - and yes that hype will probably disappear fast when his last 1000 pixels are sold.

Party Hat Drop Indicates a Healthy Market
Imo low rares are relatively underpriced, especially now phats went up so much in the past 3 months.

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
Good post tskolar, you're very right the inflation will mostly take place in the materials where people are really spending the time to get the material instead of spending their time to get experience and get the material "free" at the same time too. When observing prices, we have to remember that what really matters is how the prices relate to each other and *not* what the price of any given item is. The point with the current situation is that rares are ever-increasing, while all materials keep the same price. This means that the "worth" of an hour work is ever-decreasing. For example, suppose I spend 50 hours mining 10K coal (worth 200gp each) a year ago and bought a phat for that, thus for a worth of 2mil. The same phat is worth 50K coal (still worth 200gp each), or in other words 10mil or 250 hours of coal mining, now. This means that my investement earned 8mil gp or 200 hours of coal mining. However, if the situation was that we didn't have rares, but we did have material price inflation we could see the following, hypothetical, situation occur. We would mine 10K coal (worth 200gp each and taking 50 hours still) a year ago, worth 2mil total, and keep it in our bank as investement. Say the coal had risen 200% in the past year and coal would be worth 600gp each now. That means that our coal would be worth 6mil now. We earned 4mil gp with our investement, however, we did not earn any hours of coal mining with the investement. So yes, material price inflation is pretty fair as it makes sure that the hour of someone who plays now is worth just as much as an hour of someone who played 3 years ago. The only downside you might want to consider, is that the newer player will have a much easier time to buy good pseudo-rare items (think of rune-items for example), as these items already always decrease in price, but also because the newer players can also earn much more gp per hour because of the material price inflation. Therefore, the reasoning that inflating material prices are fairer is (or should be  ) one of the stronger points of people who are anti-rares - it is arguable how fair it is though, as it is also possible to say it is unfair towards the older players.

The Decline of Santas
They were supposed to... I've called them overpriced for months already. May have been proven wrong for quite some time, but what happened now was anything but unexpected really. Also, lots of investors speculate before christmas time by hoarding up tons of santas. With too many people doing this, prices tend to peak and start dropping way before it's actually christmas.

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
People really gotta start making a difference between rare merchanting with investing and understanding it.. What you describe is investing, not merchanting. Admitted: most merchants are also investors, but most normal players are investors too, while they are not merchants. It's pretty sad how merchants always get all the blame though0, while the major part of rares that exist are probably owned by 'normal' investing players. Removing / limiting the price of rares will most likely not do anything against the possibility of investement income. Like I've said plenty of times, if the price increase of rares would be limited, chances are large that materials will take over the role of inflation correction and in turn be your perfect investement choice. ;)

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
I find this a bit hypocritic.. Nothing 'forces' you to sell for a high price. OK you don't want a merchant taking your profit when you resell..? Well just sell to a normal player then? Everyone his own playing style ^^...

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
Actually this does go in the suggestions board :). Oh, you'll be the one caring when billions upon billions of pure gp enter the economy as a result of it ;). Surely, but that's not the point Bubsa and apinagez are trying to make.. I also agree with them that the merchanting 'game' in RuneScape compared to other mmorpg's is probably much bigger due to the existance of rares.

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
If I were to give a personal answer on that then - yes that's one of the main reasons I rarely trade pseudo-rare items like dragon armour and barrow stuff, combined with the fact that these items always devaluate in price on the long-term. How much power Jagex has regarding prices on such items was shown clearly regarding the drag chains. I lost count, but I'm pretty sure prices changed like 6 or more times already (and significantly, by 5m+ each time) due to changes in the game. There are several good other merchants who do trade them regulary though, and I can tell you the profits of trading these items are pretty ok too.

:: My Idea To Remove Rares ::
Like I posted on a quite similiar thread recently... Also, like apinagez rightly said already, you are taking away the "Limited" which basically is the definition of a rare. Plus, another reason why this 'idea' will never be implemented is the fact that Jagex doesn't like to 'recognize' the value phats have.

What would you do if RS was real?
Sell paper hats for millions of dollars.

Price Caps... the way to bring back tradable Holiday drops?
People will easily find ways around it, for example by letting people 'pay' up front before getting the item. Thus this will only lead into more people getting scammed. Talking about them 'ruining the economy' - I think more people would be complaining when we no longer have rares to somewhat prevent inflation problems.
