A healthy life is a balanced life: work or school, sleep, chores, interaction with family and friends, games. If you're not doing some or all of these, then something is out of whack. Not everyone is a virtue theorist. I find it offensive that tip it promotes a "balanced life" over other ethical/religious choices. We only get one shot at life. This is a very religious statement. You're confusing "religion", "philosophy" and "spirituality" for one thing. Those are not a religious statements. They are not religious dogma, nor are they promoting one religion or sect over others. They are philosophical statements. Nowhere have I ever suggested that one religion or sect is preferable to another, and I strongly resent your accusation that I'm promoting any sort of religion. I am most certainly not a virtue theorist -- however it's been my practical experience, over several decades, that a balance between work and play, between feast and famine, between rest and exertion tend to lead to a more satisfactory quality of life. That's neither a religious dogma nor a theory, but practical wisdom born of a lifetime's experience. There is also considerable medical evidence indicating that a balanced life is a healthier one -- now I know a lot of doctors who think they're gods, but that still doesn't make espousal of balance a religion. We do only get one shot at our current lives -- that's not religious dogma either, that's basic physics -- time flows in one direction only. There's no "time outs", no "do overs", no rehearsals, -- you get to live from birth to death with no opportunity to go back and relive any portion of your life to undo any mistakes. Had you read the article in toto, you would have read the conclusion where I said: Quote: I am well aware of Tip.It's rules and policies. However, as Editor I have a degree of autonomy beyond that of the forum discussions. There are responsibilities that come with that autonomy and neither I nor my predecessors have abused the position by using it as a bully pulpit. We endeavour to both inform and entertain our readers, not preach, promote, or propagandize. I save my serious rants for my personal journal, which is not linked to these forums in any way whatsoever. I also compared this thread to some threads of tip.it writers. These include: Ard Choille, Kiara Kat, Swampjedi, and Duke Freedom. Yes, I think it is Duke Freedom! Now, Let me quote Duke Freedom's most recent article. Notice the "--" pattern as well as his general pattern of speech. I have had my say, respond however you like. Finally, let me add that Duke Freedom was released from tip.it staff upon breaking the rule of real-world item trading. One way he could stay as almost a complete member of the staff would be to work as the anonymous editor :-w O_o That actually makes sense. :ohnoes:
