  1. I'm really precise when it comes to computer science, as that's what I do for a living. I don't really care if no one cares (heh), but I cringed at the bad info on this post. Had to set it straight. Personally, I'm wondering if the best idea is to just cast the signed int (database stored) into an unsigned int for processing, in game. That wouldn't require too much - a slight slowdown on the client side, perhaps. That way the database storage remains the same, and the backend doesn't have to be redone. I don't know the RS client or server architecture, nor the backend schema, so I can't say for sure.
  2. xzero, that's wrong. Whoever said that has no idea what s/he's talking about.
  3. I know how you feel. Yesterday I had to go to Walmart THREE FREAKING TIMES because I kept forgetting what I was there for.
  4. I have YET to see anyone other than cp who honestly understands what's going on behind the scenes, in the programming. This is kind of a quick and dirty explanation. A Java long primitive is well big enough to hold tons of gp. 64 bits, unsigned. The PROBLEM is surely within the database that stores the user records. GP is stored as a 32bit signed int (2.1B = 2^31 - 1). The concern isn't space. We could possibly convert the signed int into an unsigned 32 bit int, doubling the cap. But, this really isn't a good fix. The solution is a 64 bit number. The problem is size of the dataset. Millions records will have to be reorganized - and since they're probably optimized on disk to the extreme, I expect all records will have to be rewritten totally on disk. Modifying tables with data isn't done lightly. Heck, it's not good to do at all. When you add in millions of records, there's a huge downtime involved. Then there is an issue with speed. Doing arithmetic on 64 bit values, for the most part, is slower than 32 bit values. This is because most processor registers are 32 bits, so you can't do the work all at once. So, we have AT LEAST two times the instructions necessary for addition and subtraction, and more for division and multiplication. In the end, it's a huge pain in the butt, and it doesn't affect many people. Let me be totally, brutally honest. Even if everyone with 2.1b gp quit, Jagex wouldn't even notice. It's not worth the pain to swap data types to satisfy <5 people. So, my money is on the "don't expect this to change" side.
  5. I am a skiller, and xp > money in my book, for the most part. Thing is, I try to at least break even on what I use. So, I end up selling end products high and buying raw materials low. However, that only works for very large amounts. If I can offer 100k higher to buy or 100k lower to sell, and get a transaction an hour faster, I usually will - because that's time I could be gaining xp. Merchanting takes real-world skill, whereas the other 21 don't. So when you quit runescape, your mining knowledge dies - but you will still be able to use your merchanting knowledge.
  6. I plant 4 sets of herbs - 3 I can afford to lose, and one good one. I bind my nature amulet to the good one. It's also the last one I plant. Then I leave and go do whatever. Currently it's spinning flax for 80 craft and 99 fletch. When the nature amulet thrums at me, I go pick. This method has taken me from 75 to nearly 81 farming. I used to do limps, too. Yeah, you may get more cash per hour runecrafting - but I can do 2 skills at once. For a skiller like me (and the original poster), that is the deciding factor. This is the result, so far. I've sold 1k avantoe, too. Ranarr, Toad, Irit, Avantoe, Kwuarm, Limps, Snapdragon, Cadantine, Lantadyme, Dwarf. All not for sale, they'll get me to 85 herblore.
  7. Got 89 mage, but missed the levelup shot.
  8. Keep on grinding, my friend. You're almost there!
  9. It's the fungus growing in your beard, man, that drives the ladies away. 8)
  10. I think this has one MAJOR thing you haven't considered, which Nick suggest: People who just plain stink can get reported. That's not fair.
  11. Today's Level: I do safes, because I need gems for 80 crafting. This represents about HALF of the gems I need to get 80 crafting.

  14. I'm sorry, you're wrong. More money = inflation. Inflation = prices go up.
  15. AMJ, really, pick a better thing to attack? I see a post at the top of the forum, I reply. I don't check to see if God Himself has said "Thou Shalt Not Post on This Topic." If you want to call someone out on bumping an old post, find the one who actually did it. I don't need your permission to post, nor am I flaming you. Disagreeing strongly isn't flaming. Attacking your opinion isn't flaming. Now, saying you're acting like a jerk now or a spoiled brat in your first post might been seen as flaming, I dunno. I do think it's funny that you've fallen to the level of calling me a 'forum noob,' though. Having great skills and a recognizable name does not make you in charge. Really, your last post has some great points. Instead of whining about how people won't pay 5m for whips (first post), you accept that that's how it is and move on to other things. I just can't understand why you think you have to have the bad attitude.
  16. Axe Man Jerk, you really need to lose the attitude. World != Revolves Around You.
  17. Because they think it makes them look cool - when in reality, it makes them look young and immature. :)
  18. Dude, you 'pwned' no one. How was I to know someone bumped this from the dead. Glad to see you've got a good attitude about it now, though. :P
  19. Agreed, chris. Honestly, Axe Man, I expected better out of you. I didn't have you pegged as a "take your ball and go home" type. Sure, don't sell your little whips for less than 5000k, but you're gonna be really sorry when a better weapon comes out and whips take a nose-dive. It'll happen eventually, or else RS2 will end. Either way, you've accomplished nothing. "Unskilled Market Watcher" is laughable. I hate to tell you, my friend, but 99% of people who own a whip are "unskilled," because they can't get one on their own. Don't break your arm patting yourself on your back, Mister High and Mighty. Cmon folks, get outta diapers. I honestly don't care how hard you worked to get to 85 slayer, you can't change market forces. You can drum your heels as much as you want, but you might as well wish gravity was gone. You say you spent lots of cash getting there? Your fault - Jagex isn't going to pat you on the back and give you a free partyhat set because you spent lots of money. It annoys me that super weapon poison has practically become unsellable due to huge supply. Am I gonna whine or rant about it? No. I missed the boat by not being 82 herblore and 70 farming a few months ago. That's life. Whips are non-consumable (barring idiots who alch theirs or die with no looters around), and more enter the game every day. Yeah, more people get to 70 attack daily too, but not only slayers sell whips. Merchants have NOTHING to do with the price drop. Everyone wants to blame merchants for everything from prices going DOWN to prices going UP. Get a better scapegoat - using the merchant card makes you look like a lobotomy patient. What we're seeing is the market trying to find an eqilibrium price. Guess what, you don't get to set that price. Everyone has a little bit of a say. The whip is really worth... guess what.... what people are willing to PAY for it. Not what you say, not what the alch value is, not what the magic 8 ball says. You want prices to go up? Fine. That's understandable. But barring a drop rate reduction (which some say has already come), the long term trend is down. Get with the program. I really can't feel sorry for your rich tail, AMJ. I really can't. I really figured you were more than a spoiled brat.
