  1. Skyward sword. It's amazing, the sword control is just so fun.
  2. Most of this however (As well as your other post) relies on people moving their budget around, which has not been proven, as the study is incredibly limited and doesn't factor in other things which may have an effect. They seem to have gone into the study with blinkers on.
  3. I read through that article and skimmed the study, and to be honest, it seems to be grasping at straws a fair amount. There could be many more reasons for concert tickets being increasingly sold, attributing it simply to increased availability through pirating and other online means is hogwash. As the internet has evolved, it has opened up much more ways of advertising and selling concert tickets for one, but I did not see that factored into the equations at all. It reeks of classic narrow-minded studies where a researcher has gone at a study with an intended goal, not open to all outcomes. Harvard or not, it can still happen. Even if you look at the reading they did for the study, you can see previous studies completely contradict each other, with one saying piracy led to a 20% loss of revenue or something along those lines, ans another sayin it had no effect. I'm not saying it has no effect at all, and people may but some concert tickets, but I don't think it could be anywhere near substantial enough to make up for the lost revenue. I've personally downloaded a lot of songs, but have not gone to enough concerts to cover the cost by far, not even anywhere close. Also, the article does say that even 'if' it may be leading to other purchases, it is still hurting the music industry, no matter what people think, otherwise they would not be putting so much money into combating piracy.
  4. This is relevant. Indeed. So while all of the top 5 downloaded games are available on Direct Download services, they were still downloaded over 3 million times each. I cannot speak for price, but they would definitely not be hard to come by through these systems. However, when offered with two options, it is obvious which many people choose to go for: a) Download game x for £40 from Steam b) Download game x for £0 from a torrent Now while many do choose to buy them, games will be pirated when it is such an easy option. because of this, ways of downloading need removing.
  5. I was like that when I used to play. It took me around 12 times to get my cape, but in the end, prayer switching Jad is actually quite easy when you figure it out (or was). In reality, you only need to switch one prayer. Learn one of his attacks as best as possible, which was magic when I did mine (this is going back 3-4 years). I would have ranged prayer on constantly, only switching for his magic attack, then switching back after the attack. it prived a much easier way to do it.
  6. Thought I would bump this thread as the new cars are being unveiled for this year and driver line-ups have all but been completed. If we thought last year was good with 5 world champions on the grid, this year we have 6. Who would have thought it? Kimi is definitely who I will be supporting this year. He was my favourite driver when he was here before, and now he is in my favourite team (Renault/Lotus). The only thing I will love more will be next year when him and Kubica are both driving for the team. Unfortunately if people haven't heard, Kubica slipped on some ice recently and did damage to his leg and is now unlikely to be back this year. Only one image is needed to express my thoughts of this year:
  7. I disagree Racheya. As long as the 'reasonable alternative' is free, then no other service will take its place. Netflix as far as I'm aware is fully rolled out in America, yet piracy is still as rampant there as in the UK where the service doesn't exist. Piracy of games still exists even with extremely easy to use (and cheap) services such as Steam for games as well. The root of the problem is that goods should not be offered for free, as it massively devalues them, leading to a situation like this. There was no quarrel with pricing and availability before free piracy was available. It is only now that people think it is their 'right' to get something for nothing, even when somebody has gone through a lot of effort to produce it, that this comes up.
  8. I may be alone here but I actually really liked he original Tzhaar designs and volcano when it was first released.
  9. A quick small suggestion, although not sure where to put this as it is related though. Would it be possible to have the same system for the equipment slots available for the regular inventory page? So you could both show for example the equipment taken to a boss, as well as the inventory?
  10. Sounds great, will be incredibly useful for those creating guides and the such. P.s Putting this in G.D actually worked well as an announcement for it as it would really get the word around quickly.

Saw the original three month statistic in an economics book. Not sure which one, will have to dig it out of the attic when I get home. However, this page suggests that 67% of full time workers get paid more than minimum wage within a year of starting work at minimum wage. Also, the economics behind a price floor are well known. But in reality, the price floor economics don't apply to minimum wages as long as they aren't at ridiculous amounts. In the UK, there isn't mass unemployment due to minimum wage because it isn't set at a level which is too high. If it can work here, there is no reason why it cannot work in America, as the economic systems of the country are surely very similar. Economic theories are all well and good, but when it comes to reality, minimum wages work in many countries. I'm not saying they are perfect, but it is a better situation than people being purposefully short-changed and the rest of society, not the employer having to fill the gap in wages. EDIT: I disagree with manners and social etiquette being required contractually. Now it may not specifically say it in a contract, but it will be expected of somebody who comes in contact with the public to be polite and keep to social etiquette. It would not be inconceivable for somebody to be fired for being rude to customers. I still think you have control over your service with minimum wages, as you can refuse payment very easily if there is a problem, and can still tip if there is exceptional service. But 'ok' and average service is the least of what is expected in their job role and is what they are to be paid for.

Sees All, Could you supply any proof for any of that, or provide the rationale behind many of the claims you made as I cannot see the links. I have worked in the same job for many years (and know many, many others in the same situation) who have only had price rises with Minimum wages. Promotion and wage increass may be possible in fast moving jobs, but in lower paid and menial jobs, promotions come very rarely and opportunities to move up are not easy to come by. EDIT: I do not believe that with equal minimum wages there is no direct feedback for the server. Complaints to the manager or the server themselves, refusal to pay for a meal or asking for a discount due to bad service is something which you could still do. You can also still tip if the server has done a good job, giving them a reward for working well.

But you are paying them by eating at their establishment any way. That is where their wage should come from. As an example, I work in a shop where I serve hundreds of people during a shift. My job role is also serving the customers, with busy and slow times. There is very little difference other than I may spend 20 minutes with 15 customers, a waiter will spend it with a single customer. I don't need a tip, even though I have to put up with some downright rude people and horrible people from time to time because I get paid at a minimum wage. The same should be for all jobs.

So, what we're actually discovering here is that when a customer tips a waiter/waitress, they're masking a far more serious problem: That their employer isn't paying them a fair amount for the work they do. I'm not sure about anyone else, but if I discovered that my charitable act of kindness was reinforcing the unfair circumstances someone else finds themselves in, I wouldn't be giving them money, I'd be giving them support to make their circumstances fairer. I fully agree. Now how does one act upon this feeling (Especially not being from the country in question). All jobs in society should be paid an equal amount as a minimum. (with exceptions like voluntary work, work experience and the self-employed)

But, is it contractually enforced? Here in the UK if I understand correctly, whatever your payment method, whatever your hours and whatever the contract, you need to be being paid at least minimum wage as basic pay, otherwise certain government offices can get involved. Can waiters in America for instance go to an official and explain that they don't contractually get paid minimum wage, therefore leading to a change in it? If not, this should be the case.

Maybe a new political movement needs forming in the US where a minimum wage standard like the UK is set up and can be enforced by law. Here in the UK it is fairly simple and rates are enforced across the board, with the only exceptions being very small and quite obvious such as volunteers and prisoners. Through lookin, there are sort of minimum wages in the US but I'm unsure as to how they are enforced if many people are paid under it.
  17. I don't understand the mega box thing. Where will the money come from to pay the artists for free downloads? If it is coming from piracy on another arm of the company, then it should still not be allowed.

Even hairdressers are tipped in america? I tip even though I don't want to, I just feel as if I'll be judged if I don't. When I travelled around Europe for three weeks, eating out pretty much every night, I must have spent a fortune tipping. Wages really shouldn't be based around tipping. We should all hate whoever first decided to do that.

I've only ever slightly broken one controller and that was my PS2 one, which I accidentally stood on and broke the two sides of the casing apart. Luckily they snapped back into place quite easily I think, or I glued them together, cannot quite remember. My controllers last a very long time. I'm currently using my original Xbox and controllers as my 360 isn't here at uni, and the analogue sticks are incredibly worn. I don't quite understand what special controllers do to improve playing. Do they improve the reaction time between controller and console?
  20. Looking at that article a page back by Torrentfreak, I was expecting an incredibly biased and one sided view against the actions taken, but looking at it, it seems hard not to see the Mega group as having at least some liability, and the actions taken against it seem just.
  21. MegaUpload, MegaVideo and all of its sister sites are all gone. There will be blood. seriously. I still had a season and a half of Skins[uK] to watch. If I do not see them [along with a good portion of other data] replaced within a year, I will do radically stupid things to prove meaningless points to people who won't listen [ie: rage at politicians] Because that sure doesn't prove that they were right to take it down in some way does it? (Unless you were paying to watch it)
  22. rather then Ddosing them they should hack and black them out with anti-SOPA messages. No, they shouldn't do a damn thing. If any single body of people have hurt the case for internet freedom in the eyes of the mass public it is Anonymous. Anonymous are the online equivalent of rioters. They just make the situation a whole lot worse, and people who didn't have a strong opinion sure as well form one quickly after. Surely the actions in the last few days with Wikipedia and many other sites doing PEACEFUL online protests which highlighted the need for freedoms showed that hacking/Ddos'ing and all the other crap is not the way to go. The Wikipedia blackout made world news in an incredibly positive way, hacking will do the complete opposite and incite massive retaliation. Anyway, not sure about Megaupload as I've never used it, but I didn't know Megavideo was used for anything BUT piracy.
  23. After 17 months, I'm a temple owner.
