  1. I agree. In the scale of human civilised history, the time between WW2 and now is almost nothing. Maybe our world is snowballing and moving faster and faster. do we unintentially see ourselves as much more evolved as a society since then, when in fact we are probably incredibly similar and it could all happen again?
  2. So if I were a boot camp trainer, would I feel bad if one of my trainees had a mental breakdown because of me? Social expectations depend situationally. Erm, I would hope you would feel bad yes? But i don't quite get how that relates, please explain? We are all on equal terms in this game. We all pay roughly the same, we all play for hopefully the same reasons (having fun, wasting time etc). We should all treat each other with basic respect we would if meeting another person on the street, as that is basically what we are doing.
  3. I disagree. I am a liberal thinker in this perspective. I see big sweeping changes as a great way to change this game for the better. The problem Jagex have is that even minimal changes get rants, so big changes probably make them want to kill themselves. For example i personally would LOVE if Jagex made all the dungeoneering ores and armours available outside of the skill, with stats equal to those of their regular metal counterparts. It would add much more choice for lower and middle level players in their armour and would be more fun. However, it would be such a large change that it would never happen. I think that adding more bosses and worlds would only continue to increase the number of players boss hunting instead of thinning them out. It could even make crashing even more common with even more people as some bosses could even be easier and more profit. EDIT: But this is real life and you are meeting them. They are real people, just because they are not right in front of you does not mean they are not human and not people. You should act the same with somebody across the world as you would with somebody 2 feet away. The only reason I can think of not doing so is that maybe somebody 2 feet away would smack you around the face. It boils down to anonymity of the internet.
  4. I'll sooner support giving the DEA the right to execute civilians and then search my house for evidence that I am a crack lord. ... It's ingame.... and to remove bots... Just like in real life different people have different views on what they would like authorities to know and not to know. However, I do think Jagex should set up a covert team who have the ability to insta-ban bots and then have a few people to review those banning.
  5. But it's not an issue of respect. Quite simply, there is not enough to go around. There's a very small number of non-LS worlds and a very large number of players who want to use them. No amount of respect can change this. Caring for the community and being respectful of one another will not magically create more non-LS worlds. As far as instancing bosses, that's not a good idea for the bosses we have now. They're too easy to farm. MHing is profitable because it takes a very long time to accumulate the levels and gear to do it effectively, not to mention the ever present chance of death by some freak cause (which is not uncommon). The profits from MHing do not need to change. What we need is a plethora of new bosses (some instanced, some not) that will spread the population around, which will help to eliminate the need to crash. The second point i'm not going to argue here because I think it was discussed to death in the 'intelligent perspective on bots thread'. If you knew you had no chance of being crashed, would you be willing to wait about 5 minutes for the previous person at a boss to finish however? Especially if they are lower levelled, they probably wouldn't be there for long. That is what I am getting at, however I know it would only happen in a perfect community which will never happen. How about, if once one person (or clan chat group) is inside a boss room, no more people would be able to enter and pass the door. To stop people from camping in tank gear without killing 'for the lulz' they would have to do x amount of damage or kill in x amount of time before being booted from the room. It would force people to wait and even team with others waiting, which in turn would let them compete within themselves for kills inside a clan chat. Not a perfect solution and many will argue that it would just slow the whole thing down and that they deserve to be able to crash (even though many have argued nobody deserves anything) but it would totally solve the issue of crashing.
  6. They are pretty cool and a bit of a reminder of what can happen even in modern society. Who knows if the events in those pictures will ever happen again?
  7. It all seems to boil down to (from the last few posts at least) how much somebody cares about themselves over others. Which in effect is the driving force in determining how good a games community is. Those who just care about themselves and not about others will crash immediately. Those who care about evenly will probably hop a few times and maybe be forced to crash. Those who are overly caring will never get a chance due to everybody else caring about themselves more. It all comes down to how friendly the runescape community is at the current point. Currently, it is very bad when in situations involving lots of money. It also seems to be a snowball, as it forces others to have to care about themselves more over others. Before people tell me that we should care about ourselves first, I agree. However, would caring about others more benefit us as well? If enough people cared to improve the community, wouldn't people have an easier time finding a world and not being crashed? This in turn could improve the whole atmosphere of the game. But that will never happen with a large user base of teenagers. A perfect solution in my mind would be to instance all bosses. As a bonus it would devalue all the boss drops which are massively overvalued by bringing more into circulation which if you had read a recent thread on botters would decrease MH profits which is something which in my opinion needs doing.
  8. Lol@ someone who has a lot more gameplay left, from someone who has played all the minigames, done all quests, etc. If you have no game play left how have you been playing recently? There is game play left, even for those who have done what they assume is everything, it just takes some imagination with other people, considering this is an MMO.
  9. Tomorrow: "We've finally released the long-awaited graphics update! Features: -Optimized lighting effects for players when near two or more concurrently active light sources. Thank you and we'll see you for next week's update!" We won't see any immediate benefit of the Z buffering update.
  10. Nobody deserves anything, nobody has earnt any right and there is no way you can say you earnt a spot. That doesn't mean you can't crash, it doesn't mean crashing is wrong, but don't justify it. It's not nice to others, but it's nice to yourself. Stand up for the fact that you choose for yourself, and I'll accept that. But this talk about deserving and earning is just crap. Exactly, nobody does deserve or have the right to a spot, but I would hope that everybody playing has the ability to know that everybody has the right to be treated kindly and fairly and given a bit of respect.
  11. Once again, you're biased. Her opinion aligns with yours. I thought I was clear, I will write an article. I will. Stop saying I won't. Furthermore, since when is critiquing someone bad? This is a discussion forum. We're discussing it. Are we not allowed to post if our opinion differs from that of the writer(s)? You miss the point once again Danny, this article was written in lieu of a discussion on the subject. There was a place for such discussion which serves as just as positive a place as an article. Yet when we display our opinions on the article, you say we can't as we're not willing to write an article. A flawed and misguided statement which I will discount as a 'null point'. I invite you to show me an article which has incited as much negative comments as this has, until then that's a null point. Just because someone doesn't have the same view as you, doesn't mean that you need to insult them in your article. You don't seem to get that. The article frequently insults the reader if they are of a certain belief! Hah! That's the very definition of a bad article! It isn't accessible to others because it clouds it's own argument through insults, which is what I said originally. The last times had an article which some users found just as insulting, in which the writer displayed their dislike for quests. I am not arguing with you discussing the material within the article, but if you read back to my first quote on this thread, my point was that saying this article does not deserve to be an article is plain wrong. An action taken by many players (complaining) annoyed many other players and one of them wrote an article on it. Just because that person may have previously stated their views on a forum does not mean it cannot be written in an article. Discuss the content to your hearts content, but the article stands. I do not refuse to admit people will do that, I do refuse to give them any sympathy whatsoever when they say they cannot do anything else, because they can, they just won't, but this is majorly OT.
  12. Until somebody comes forward and writes an article or puts forward a good idea for one, I find it safe to say they (myself included) are unwilling to write one and shouldn't criticise whether or not an article should or should not be written. As I have already stated, I would assume an article writer can write whatever they want (within reason of course), their view is allowed to be their own, be it one which will upset others or not. I think many articles upset a few people at least, it just so happens this time you were one of the few on the receiving end. This shouldn't meant that this one should not be there, it means that maybe you should read it and think twice about what you may have done to get this directed at you. Just because your view is not the same as somebody else's does not mean they cannot express that view. To a large extent, I feel her article even represents the view of many people who saw the mass ranting on the RSOF and felt it was pathetic. Just because she posted in a thread about it here on the forums does not mean she cannot write an article on it.
  13. If they pull put that early the country will be left in such a state that it will probably fall and go backwards taking decades more to get up to a full working country. Imo they should stay, train and secure the country for a few more years.
  14. You can disagree with its topic and statements, but stating that it is not even worth being an article in my opinion is just a null point. If you aren't prepared to write for us yourself, don't tell the current writers what they can and can't write.
  15. Why do articles like this not deserve to be on the times? If you have ideas for articles, by jove please say! Please try yourself coming up with ideas for articles for a year then we will see how many 'original' ideas you can come up with. Criticising a public articles topic when you are not prepared to do it yourself is a null criticism. Good articles imo. I agree with the slayer one, but I am one of the shrinking group of players not concerned in the slightest with efficiency and just playing the game to waste time and have fun. They don't deserve to be on the times because the article in question, Racheya's, was her direct response to a forum argument. Where the exact same insults where used, and answered. Rather than glean anything from this, Racheya chose to portray those complaining in a negative light. Frequently calling them kids and making further over generalized. In a sense, it was just trolling. I have an idea for an article, a rebuttal to the point offered by Racheya. Oh wait, there's already a thread for that, created before the article was even written. It was not a reply to a thread but a view of the discussions on this forums and other forums. To somebody who had no read the thread, it would not force them to read it to know background, it does not direct them to said thread, it does however display her views towards the views other people have. That is the whole point of an article. Roughly, all an article needs to be is somebodies view on something else, written to a good standard. She stated an overview of many peoples view of the delay and then her own view. A discussion on a forum is exactly that, a discussion. It looks to me as if the reason you have difficulty seeing its validity as an article is because it goes against your own point of view you have stated in the threads she gives an overview of. As stated before, I think it is safe to say the editorial panel would welcome articles from all of you whatever the viewpoint, as long as you write of a good standard. If you are not prepared to show your own viewpoint in an article, you shouldn't say somebody elses viewpoint isn't worth writing an article on.
  16. You're completely missing the point. It has very little to do with an "entitlement complex." - There are a limited number of non-LS worlds. - There are thousands of players who want to use these worlds. You see the problem we have? We are FORCED to compete with each other. Like Bladewing said, if you're going to be mad at someone, be mad at Jagex for forcing us into these situations. No one who solo boss hunts regularly will tell you that everything is all fine and dandy and hopping for a half an hour is an acceptable course of action. Like I've said before, crashing is not personal. Crashers are not sociopaths, bullies, or whatever other demeaning title you want to assign to them. They're just playing Runescape the way it was made. The problem is that many people don't even try to find an empty world. Many people will just crash without trying to find somewhere that will inconvenience nobody. I would be fine with somebody who has hopped 3 -5 times crashing because they have put the effort in NOT to crash. But immediately crashing whoever is there is just doing it is almost lazy.
  17. Why do articles like this not deserve to be on the times? If you have ideas for articles, by jove please say! Please try yourself coming up with ideas for articles for a year then we will see how many 'original' ideas you can come up with. 18. The problem is that those willing to defend their crashing seem to skip most of the posts which give very good criticism to the crashing yet pick up and start arguments on the posts which have more holes in them. Guys, if you are going to discuss this, do it in a sensible and constructive manner. Personal insults and off topic arguments will be removed from here on in.
  19. Jagex seem to employ largely from university graduates who have done placements at their studios and or have experience in other games studios or electronics firms. But this really isn't a place to discuss how to get a job at Jagex, and I think the chances of anybody knowing anything that could realistically help would be slim so I am locking this.
  20. By what right do you have claim to a spot? To answer the question, non its a free spot for anyone to join in. Seriously the only animosity towards crashers that I would agree with would be if you owned the spot, which you dont. Therefor them investing more time and money should give them the chance for more profit. (this is coming from an average leveled noob that they could crash even if ive already taken a 3rd of its health before they got there) It all comes down to common decency. You may have the ability to do something, but should you do it? What i would call a good person would not crash if there is another way of doing it. If there are other ways to do something yet you still continue to crash then you have no common decency. There really is no argument over that as far as I can see. trying to rationalise crashing when there are other ways to go about it is the same as trying to rationalise for example scamming in old free trade. It hurts others and only benefits you and does not need to be done.
  21. Ifr the wall was another 2m that could have been a horrific accident. Both cars would have been out and just imagine if a back marker had been exiting the pits at the same time. Was a good race by Webber, the laps he put in were outstanding.
  22. Why have yellow phat's dropped below green and almost purple now in g.e price?
  23. I have to agree on Nightfire. It is an unsung Bond game. The multi player rivalled goldeneye imo. Spent so long having fun 2 player on that game.
  24. The update was ready... The graphics engine was not. I don't understand you. The update required a graphics engine update which didn't exist. Quality-Assurance should have gotten that, but since they are so rushed they didn't. I knew someone had suggested it earlier! Glad it was you, Pure. Did you read the explanation? The QA team do not use computers which don't work with the update. The only fault would be that the managers had brought those certain computers for the QA team to use. But there is almost no way the could predict that they would need older and slower computers for one update a few years down the line. In no way has the workload of the QA team effected this delay. And bladewing, pages and pages and pages of complaining with no discussion does reflect badly on the forum and you are fooling yourself if you think it does not.
  25. The reason a majority of the complain s are complained about are because they are almost always discussion-less (new word woo). Complaining leads o complaining which leads to complaining. Complimenting leads to speculations which lead to discussions. And to be honest, from my point of view, when a whole page is just people complaining about a game delay, it makes the forum look bad. I certainly wouldn't join a forum where everybody looks miserable and argumentative. Anyway, quoting myself is fun, from the thread when they brought back BTS: Only had to wait until the second BTS to lose hope.
