Behind the Scenes - July
They say some of the dungeoneering dungeons will be F2P but they don't specifically say the frost dragon will be in one of them, so I don't think people should get their hopes up that it will be F2P at all

Happy July the 4th!
Well I wouldn't disagree that the Boston shootings were a major sparking point, I wouldn't call it totally unreasonable as I think (if I can remember my lecture from last year) the soldiers had been pelted with rocks and hit with clubs so it could be classed as self-defence. But I think the finite discussions on that are something for another day  But still, I agree, and I think that as with previous topics regarding certain countries/areas, posts in an inflammatory manner towards the U.S will be removed.

Happy July the 4th!
Happy birthday of your country. I have to admit though at this time of year it really bugs me that Americans think they beat the British, when in fact without the French (who it seems many dislike) the war would have been very one-sided. But the good that has been done since in the way of inventions is very good so it wasn't all bad. It does make me think, if the French didn't get involved and America remained a colony, how much the world would be different. Would the world wars have ended earlier? Would the US basically be the same as Canada is now? Would the world be more advanced or less advanced?

Celtic Knot Sliding Puzzles
Well sliding puzzles are more time consuming than a challenge so something which actually is hard may be fun. Maybe they will use a form of 3D sliding puzzle?

I Don't Like Jagex
Again, comparing Blizzard to Jagex is unreasonable. The size difference and therefore the scale of what they do is incredibly large. For clarification, if you read many of the posts about the article which was posted, it must have been more than just critical, it sounds as if it was basically calling Jagex out based on nothing but lies and unfounded suspicion. Considering it was posted on the front page of what was at the time a page viewed by a large amount of the games player-base and was probably often viewed by staff members. A good way of comparing it would be a local business being criticised by a local paper, that business would take action. Then think if the local newspaper criticised a lage multi-national business. The actions taken would be totally different, and so would they be here. Jagex decide it is fair not only because it benefits an incredibly few people, but because it also hurts just as few, if not less. You seem to lack the ability to look at the bugger picture and just focus on one specific point. And do not forget, there is a large difference between age and maturity, think of it the same way you would post count here. Just for my own information, exactly when have they ever done this? I'm sure they have apologised and agreed on faults for various bugs and server outages etc. They also admitted that they made mistakes with PVP systems and how summoning worked at first.

I wonder what extra they will add to the look of dragons? The leap between the old dragons and the current ones was huge, but we haven't had much of a technology leap since then so I can't think what they might add. Maybe particles to the dragonfire but that is about it. Can't wait to see what they do.

This will be full of win, specially for Waterfiends If you can afford it yes. Don't expect it to be cheaper than current 3rd age, it will probably be even more.

Behind the Scenes - July
I doubt they will have uses. The majority if not all TT items are good-looking items on par with things of the same level. But that isn't a bad thing as they add some flavour to the game. Sounds like a great month. I also wonder what the new monsters in the dungeoneering areas will drop. Frost leather?

I Don't Like Jagex
Well Jagex should remodel their forums, and thats not the only part that blizzard beats jagex in customer service, you can call them by phone too. You can call a GM in game who isnt like a pmod their actually employees and their job is to help you with ingame issues. For me im permanently banned from their forums anyways (for what? i dont even know) and it doesnt show up on offense history, how do i appeal this? and more importantly how do i contact them if i have an issue, such as a few times Runescape would mess up because im on a Mac. Blizzard has many options while Jagex has none. Now Blizzard may have 10x the income but they have 10x more players to deal with. Besides Jagex already has a huge profit ratio, them not putting more money into customer service is pure greed and an insult to their customers who have been used and abused for years now. Blizzard also announced hitting 10 million members in 2008, meaning about $130 per user. Using the Runescape member numbers from the other year, Jagex announced they hit 1 Million members. Going by that, using $5 as a general membership fee as some people pay more than that, but some pay less, Jagex would get a revenue of somewhere around $60 million a year. They haven't announced the amount of F2P players actively play, but i don't think it would rock the boat too much to expect around another million F2P players. This is about $30 per player. These numbers are not solid, but they are a rough estimate which are probably fairly close. The money the two companies have available to create customer services for each member are massively different. Blizzard can afford call-centres whereas Jagex definitely cannot. They have to use e-mail and on-line methods. They cannot realistically afford to compare to the customer services of blizzard. Edit: On the whole suing discussion, unless you have read said article, I do not think anybody can comment on it. Looking at Andrews reply to it: http://forum.tip.it/topic/34480-tipit-times-presents-biased-banning-raises-brows/page__st__160__p__592624entry592624 It does not sound like it was mere criticism.

I would agree ring, but I think comparing the customer services and the forums of WoW and RS is not viable. The main reason for this is the forum itself imo. The forum is based off such an old system and is so inefficient. For example, reporting posts is not possible. This leads to a vast amount of incredibly immature people using the forums as nothing more than a spam tool. This in turn cannot be moderated efficiently which in turn invites more people etc etc. This has been the process going on for years, which makes the forums a totally unreasonable place for Jagex to talk to their customers. There are areas where Jagex do talk to customers but these areas are few in number. A total overhaul of the RSOF would be needed before Jagex could use it properly. You also have to think of the money used, Blizzard has over 10 times the money at disposal to fund their customer service, but they don't have 10 times the user base to fill it. I do have to ask, when have Jagex sued somebody for criticising them?

I Don't Like Jagex
I'm unsure as to what you read, but his argument was that Jagex have made no updates which in his opinion are positive, that is what I attacked, which was the argument. Concerning your last statement, the problem is people don't leave if they are upset, they rant and rave but continue to play. Using your subway analogy, it would be like protesting outside the store that a new filling tastes terrible and that subway are evil, then going inside and having your fill of sandwiches.

That is the exact problem. You are thinking of nobody but yourself and if that is how you think, you are no better than how you perceive them. You not having the willpower and strength to change game and quit is your problem and not theirs, if anything, it shows that they have made a game which has enough lasting appeal to do that. You say they have earned no respect, but I have shown example reasons in which they do, and you have the tenacity to outright ignore them and do exactly what I would hope somebody of your age would be able to do, and that is to think. And at least one thing they have done for you is create this game, and I can say without a doubt, at one time or another you enjoyed the game.

As I said, they are a business. Very few business' will straight out admit when they make a mistake. They have made a few mistakes in the past and admitted I am sure, but when something happens which goes drastically wrong, admitting it can do just as much if not more damage to them. Do not get me wrong, I agree with people that the rock boot update had no logical basis, however, as a general rule, do not expect them to make quick decisions and put out quick messages to the public, it is an unfounded expectation.

I Don't Like Jagex
Fact: Jagex is a company which has grown from a nothing into a company which makes millions of pounds sterling per year and brings entertainment to a record breaking number of people around the world. Yet, so frequently around this forum, people show this company no respect whatsoever and seem content that they are idiotic, stupid and may as well be blind and unable to use a computer. But it confuses me to no end when people have this opinion. As a company they may make a few mistakes in their game as a rarity, however, on the whole they deserve and should get your respect. First and foremost, Jagex is a gaming company. This means that they need and want to make money. Any and every update they make to their game will be to get new users and to get more money. That is a good thing for you and me. It means the ability to hire more staff for customer service, getting updates done faster by hiring more developers and allows them to hire more servers for more worlds and more space for all of the players. Yet still somehow, people complain when Jagex try to make themselves some money, it is absurd. For the amount of gameplay you can get out of Runescape, the price you pay is incredibly minute, yet the amount Jagex can make is incredibly large, which is nothing but good for us as the players. Secondly Jagex are human. Yes I know calling them that here may get me killed. A majority of them are aged around 20-30 years, which means they don't have 40 years of business experience so the amount they have done is also astonishing (Remember, Andrew was very young when the company was founded). As they are human, they can make mistakes. The best of us do it, the worst of us do it a lot. For the amount of updates Jagex have made over the 9 years of Runescape running, the number in which mistakes have been made is a very small minority. Compared to your average business, they are very clean. You could count the number of large mistakes Jagex have made and have not had any good reasoning for on your hands. Jagex don't only make Runescape. If you have a problem with a Runescape update, you will usually blame Jagex, but it is not the whole of Jagex which deal with Runescape. Jagex have built various games which many people enjoy. However, my main gripe is that so many people resort to bad-mouthing Jagex without even taking a deep breath and thinking. I urge you to stop and think next time you feel like an update has been wrong or something has annoyed you in-game and think more than 'omg i hate this'. Think about who something will benefit, who will use it, who will it disadvantage, what advantages will it give me, who will enjoy it? Knee-jerk reactions are often the wrong reaction to have as you won't have any clarity of thought and you will just sound idiotic to those who bother to think first. Please also remember that even when somebody isn't bad-mouthing Jagex, they don't necessaries like Jagex, they just have the clarity of thought to think something through enough. If you bother to do that and think things through, I am positive that you will find some respect for Jagex and it may even make the game and it's vast amount of updates more enjoyable for you. Not only will you make the community more friendly but you will be helping yourself.

Half-Life 1 and Team Fortress Classic Problems
Does your computer have dual or more cores? It may be a long shot but I know a few older games I have tried have exactly that problem when trying to run from multiple cores. So it is a long shot, but to try this, start the game then go to the control panel. Go to the process tab and find the game's process in the list (should be something like hl[Caution: Executable File]). Right click it and click 'set affinity...' Then just select only one core.

Red Dead Redemption - Official Topic
Cougars are fine, it's when bears do it that it gets scary. So many times I've been killing a bear only to get side swiped by another one, then when standing up a third one appears. I did realise that they very often travel in 3's. I did have a situation at one point when i got between two groups of bears which all came for me. They took down my horse and just swarmed me, I only managed to escape by using deadeye to headshot them.
