  1. Been ages since I played it, but dusted it off this afternoon, playing it now. incredible record, it's so simple, but it just doesn't let go of you.
  2. Badalamenti.
  3. A fantastic record, it's a shame that the "18 songs for music lovers" gives it such a nasty aura.
  4. Last saturday I showed Days of Heaven to a friend, I think I've seen it for the third time this year, still my favorite movie of al time. :) Today in the afternoon I drooled over Citizen Kane again, it's incredibly that a movie of 60 years feels so new, it's like something that could've been made today. In the evening I went to see the new Almodóvar Los abrazos rotos which was a total bore. None of the characters seem to come to live in this movie, it's boring, there's noirish elements, but none of the excitement or sexyness. It's a movie about moviemaking, but for a movie like that it lacks a soul. Penelope looks amazing, but that's always the case with Almodóvar, you could better see Volver or something.
  5. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - God is in the House Not the song, but the live DVD is playing in the background.
  6. I always get one when I'm in the mood to drink something I don't like.
  7. Buttermilk, Pastis, Coffee, Ginger Ale, Beer (Hertog Jan for normal beer and Tripel Karmeliet as the special beer), Orangina, Water.
  8. Two pictures from my cycling vacation. If somebody could index them, that would be great. :) Third day on the campsite. Third day, near another campsite, with cows.
  9. Sun Kil Moon - April the second song.
  10. That opening scene is so incredible, so are the square scenes and the march of violence. That music, Mihaly Vig is quite a hero. Now go for Satantango. Not seeing very much movies lately. Last thing I saw was Death Wish, last saturday. It's alright, not too great, though. Don't really want to spend too much words on it. Just saw about 15 minutes of "Under the Tuscan Sun", what an incredibly stupid movie. I can't see how anyone could enjoy something like this?
  11. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
  12. Autechre - Clipper
  13. Hm, pretty interesting cover. Can you tell me something about this?
  14. New muse release, can't wait to hear it.
  15. Das, did you really make a best action movies list without mentioning Seven Samourai? Which is the best action movie of all time.
  16. haha, Frankmusik, I saw that guy live a month or two ago. I can't believe those indie kids accept stuff like that, they're going downhill fast.
  17. 1,5/2 liter a day.

Only when I want something really bad.
  19. : Did you like Naked City? I thought it was awesome. That's cool! The first record is by far their best, in my opinion. Have you heard or are you planning to hear more Zorn work? And another tip, maybe you know him already..Yoshihide Otomo, he's seen as the Japanese John Zorn, I saw him live at North Sea Jazz a couple of weeks ago with his New Jazz Ensemble and it was one amazing experience.
  20. : Did you like Naked City?
  21. Ah, okay. I can assure you that he didn't do stuff like that in his later work. He's less radical in his later films, and Un Chien Andalou is also made with Dali, the eye thing might even be his idea. :) It would be a shame to miss out the great stuff he made because of that. :) I can really recommend the box on amazon. :) I don't know if the interview book Bunuel on Bunuel has been translated in English, but if it has been translated I can recommend it.

So.. Upcomming concerts: Camera Obscura (October), Tori Amos (September), The Tallest Man Alive (October) and Lowlands festival in two weeks.
  23. Los Olvidados (released in france, you can get it from the french amazon for 10 bucks or something, then you also get two of his other mexican movies with it and the documentary he made in the early thirties after L'Age D'or), it's one of his best films, and funny enough also the least surrealistic. I really love Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie and of course Belle de Jour. As for Melville, I really like Les Enfants Terrible (also released on Criterion), but that's a bit of a strange one compared to his other work, since it's not only about being cool, which is probably because it's a Cocteau movie for 75%. I always hear people about L'armée des ombres, but I haven't seen that yet. Last movie I saw was Mommie Dearest, which is a bit of an unusual film. It's really good, I think. Faye plays Joan Crawford so good, she really goes "full Joan" as somebody else wrote. I'm pretty sure the movie is meant seriously, we really fall from one atrocity into the other, but when you get over the shock of what happens on screen you see how hilarious it is. The "Tina!!! BRING ME THAT AXE!" and "No...WIRE HANGERS!!!!", especially in the wire hangers scene, jesus, wow. She must've been the model for Heath Ledgers Joker. :o 1MA, it's really a shame that you won't look further into Bunuel after Un Chien Andalou, it's a bit strange to discard (is that the right word?) a director that made over 20 films based on a twinty minute short, that also was the first film of his career. :)
