Bad scenario: You log out in a rough state (low health, in the middle of monsters), but you absolutely had to leave. You then log back in and are immediately attacked. You try to eat ... please enter your PIN ... screen disappears because you're attacked ... you are dead. I know, hopefully a pretty rare scenario, but ... If this sort of thing ever happened, there would be rants no end about how RS is being dumbed down even further for the little kids. I personally am neutral on it.

IGNORE ALL THIS, There is already a topic - Yay me for not reading!! This is my second ever topic (see my other suggestion just made a moment ago) ... If I want to communicate with another player, I have to wait until they log in at the same time as me to do so. What if I haven't seen them for a while? What would be cool, would be a way to send a message that will sit in the players in-game mailbox until they login next. That way I can still get in touch while schedules clash (or whatever the reason is). Access to send to the mailbox could be limited to the Private Chat settings, or have its own settings for Friends, All, None. Just a thought I had ... any good?

This is my first ever topic, so please make sure you agree with me to make me feel loved :XD: Too often I have been in one of the low numbered worlds trying to buy or sell something, only to have trouble either finding a buyer or finding the trade offer in among all the messages flying through the screen. So, how about this idea ... provide a special marketplace system where people can lodge items into the marketplace for sale at a certain price. Buyers can then visit the marketplace (all in game or course) and search for the required items. All items in the search would be returned and you can then select which you want. Items to be sold could be individual items or a package (e.g., full rune). For selling by this method, the seller is 'charged' a fee by the marketplace. The items can sit in the marketplace indefinitely, also when you're logged out, and you revisit to collect your coins or item. There are issues with the stated idea around logging into different servers and tracking the status (i.e., Log on to World 1 and add full rune to marketplace, later you log back into World 99 to collect your coins. How does World 99 know that it's sold on World 1? Needs to be some way of identifying that an item is for sale on a particular world, and it is transferred to the new world when you log in (or something much more intelligent than that). Anyway, thanks for reading my idea. Any thoughts?

My experience of P-Mods to date has been positive ... not that I've seen many. There were comments earlier about whether the crown is actually needed, so let's briefly look at why the crown might be there: - To show that when you are asked to do something (like shut up), you should listen to that person - To make the person feel good when people notice they have a silver crown - To help them get better trading deals Ok, so the last 2 aren't likely to be reasons for the silver crown. I think the idea that P-Mods are more hidden could be a better way to do it. Maybe a way for them to flag a message as 'Warning' which would then include a 'I'm a P-Mod, listen or feel my wrath' tag like a silver crown. Otherwise they just look like regular players. Something else that P-Mods can be seen as, is a free resource to help you. I don't think it is the primary purpose of a P-Mod, so why not have the ability for someone to flag themselves as 'willing to help' and have a marker in their in-game name ... like a clown face. That way, people needing help can find someone who is generally willing. Just a random thought I had ...

Do you use other RS Fansite Forums than Tip.it?
truffoo replied to unorclan's topic in Questionnaires
I use Tip it only, although sometimes look at RHQ or Zybez home pages. I spend far too much time already playing RS and looking at Tip It ... -
Haha, that was one of the best jokes i ever heard!
truffoo replied to Etta's topic in General Discussion
OK, here's a bad one: Why did the Black Demon jump off the building? He wanted to be a Greater Demon (i.e., red/blood) And another: What's the difference between an iron dragon and a steel dragon? You can't get your clothes pressed by a steel dragon And another: Noob: How far is it to Falador (from Lumbridge)? You: About that far  on a map (closest smiley to illustrate) Last one: How many bad jokes does it take to get kicked from Tip It? Hopefully more than 4 Can you tell I made them up myself???? :XD: -
On my very first account, I dutifully complete the Sheep Shearer quest and a few others to get me some cash. After that, and collecting a full invent of other items, I go off fighting goblins ... and die! Since all hope was lost to ever make any more money, I abandoned the account. This account, I actually paid attention to tutorial island, and hey, there are banks ... that's pretty cool

Attack vs. Strength: The Legendary RuneScape Battle
truffoo replied to Xeones's topic in General Discussion
That's right! I'd like to add something slightly different into the discussion: What will help train faster? Say you wanted to get any melee stat to 99 (attack for this arguement's sake), what is the best way to get there? For me (currently going for 70/70/70, I'd expect it would be quicker to get all 80s then maybe 92 attack & strength (or at least the mimimal logical str level to reach a logical max hit, no point being 1 str level short of a new max hit), then go for 99 attack. That way, you're trained up the 'easy' levels to provide for a good monster throughput (hit them often and hard). You'll be able to knock through monsters pretty quick, and hopefully save a lot of food, therefore time visiting banks to get more, therefore being able to kill more. It'll take a whole lot less time to get 99 attack with 92 strength as opposed to 70 strength. Ultimately, as many have said previously, it really depends on what you want to achieve. Each of Attack, Strength and Defence have their own benefit in different scenarios, but my personal opinion is that balanced stats will more often win against unbalanced (except where huge level differences exist between players of course ... a 20/99/20 should almost always beat a 40/40/40) -
Tip.it Times Presents: What's your final goal in Runescape?
truffoo replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
Well said Devoted. One of the biggest goodness-ity of RuneScape is the MM-ness (Massively Multiplayer) of it. Focussing only on a goal would lead to getting bored, burnt out, etc. But enjoying time online with others while working on a goal is surely better. The memories that would last are "While getting 99 skill-X, I met this guy. There are really awesome people out there. Etc". Without these sorts of memories, whenever each person does quit, you'll be left with a feeling of pointlessness. Having said that, pointlessness does have its place at times. -
To clear up the inevitable confusion (on soul/blood alters)
truffoo replied to Hi9im8Here7's topic in General Discussion
You're all wrong ... it's obvious ... Summoning is coming out!! OK, unrelated, but if people read "blood altar" in the BTS, then I can read "Summoning". I think the new altar could go a few different ways: 1) Random number of runes made (as mentioned on page 1) 2) Random runes made - even if you don't have the level for them (maybe this would include Blood and Soul runes as possibilities ...) 3) Random amount of experience (5% chance of less, 50% chance of same, 25% change of 2x, 15% change of 3x, 5% chance of 5x) 4) Some combination of all of these Whatever it is, it won't affect me since I'm F2P only. Imagine the rants if they made it F2P ... not that they should or will ... but it would drown the rants about the actual update itself #-o. Don't flame me for asking for more F2P updates, that's not what I'm doing. -
I agree with this. Since I started RS (2 or 3 years ago), I only had 3 mimes (still needed gloves and all 4 emotes). Since I wanted to complete my mime set, I went random hunting. Over 2 hours at the minotaurs (burying bones plus ranging) in the stronghold, I had 3 mimes, along with a huge number of others. By the end of the next day, I had completed my mime set. You get to the point where you say, "Next bone I bury will be my next random". It's the same with cutting Willows at Draynor, you get to the point where you are expecting a random any second (pity the Ent counts as a random ... that's just annoying). Certain actions in certain places have higher random chances, and the random event randomly chosen is based on where you are and what you are doing, weighted (e.g., 4 ent options, 1 tree spirit, 1 evil chicken, 2 sandwich ladies, etc) and then 1 is randomly chosen. My impression is that there is a 'stand-down' time after your last random where you won't get another one, but an earlier post may indicate otherwise. For truely repetitive tasks, it looks like a 15-30 minute window between randoms.

Lightning, I only ever saw your name ingame once, in the tipitchat clan chat, but it is clear from the past 8 pages that you have made a huge impact on so many people. Don't ever feel that you have let people down by your decision. Life/family is way more important than the game ... as much fun as it has been. I was going to say "don't feel bad", but it's nature to feel bad and sad about this sort of change. Just imagine what you'll be able to do with all that spare time now ... Good on you for making the decision and good luck with whatever you next put your time into. Truffoo

I believe that that hints towards future updates. It's been proven that what the Chaos Elemental says in letters do hint towards updates, while this wasn't said by the Chaos Elemental I'm sure it means something. See bold above ... this must mean that 3h swords will be coming out, but that they won't be quite as powerful as the 2h ... it's so obvious! \ Idiocracy aside, I have no doubt that some things in the Postbag are hints at updates, which others are intended to make people wonder, and most other bits in there are purely for fun (or maybe a history lesson).

I got full zombie and emotes at minotaurs in a short space of time. Prior to that, I hadn't got any Leo randoms. Only got 1 or 2 sinces. Decided to go random hunting yesterday after first seeing this thread, so went down to Minotaurs again (figured I should actually train my range to better than 30), hoping for the mime gloves and all 4 emotes. In the space of 2 hours I got: - 2 mimes (emotes) - 2 Schoolmaster - 1 WOM - 2 Freaky Forrester - 1 Pinball - 1 Maze The trigger point was pretty consistent (based on 2.5 rows of things in inventory): - bury full invent of bones - bury another full invent of bones - bury another full invent of bones - start to bury the 4th full invent, and a random triggered ... almost every time Except for the mime (which I had 3 bones left to bury), all triggered on the first bone in the inventory. I shall continue hunting ...

1. If a friend from RL lent you a party hat to wear once and give back, would you take it? No 2. If an ingame friend gave you his partyhat to wear then give back, would you take it? No 3. If a rich person you hardly knew lent you his partyhat to wear and give back, would you take it? No 4. If you knew someones password, and knew they were rich, would you take thier stuff? No, but suggest they change the password 5. Would you kill a skulled person in the wilderness for a partyhat? Prbably not, I'd try, but probably wouldn't kill them :-w 6. Would you accept a duel with a much lower level that stakes all his money (say 5 mil)? Would you leave a party hat sitting on the ground when no one else is around? Of course you'd take it. If they want to duel for 5m, it's up to them. 7. If someone died, and dropped something valuable, would you give it back. AND how valuable would it have to be for you to keep it? Depends on their attitude when they come back to claim it. Bad attitude = bad result, good attitude = good result.

They like to leave the players wondering. I just hope they release the stats and effects of whatever new items they bring out with the GWD in the Knowledge Base, and not try to pull another stunt like with the Third Age items... Creating hard-to-get items and not releasing the stats just encourages players to lie about the stats in order to gouge the price. Exactly ... no update creates a bit of tension and wondering. It's why they released the advertising for it a week or so ago. Hats off to them for the way they have gone about building expectation for the new dungeon. Start with a new book hidden in a bookcase ... behind the scenes ... web advert ... a no-update week. I hope for everyone's sake that the update hits the sweet spot (i.e., minimal rants - there will be some - and no need to make it easier or harder). If I was a member, I'd be :ohnoes: [/hide] Yeah, they certainly did a good job in that area. Although now they have hit a dilemma. If it doesn't 'hit the sweet spot', people are gonna get annnoyed. Big time. Oh yeah ... although people will still complain about something in there. Wouldn't count as an update if no one complains. *Stares at wall, plays with hair on chin, and starts to ponder* ~~Hmm I can see it now... High levels will complain of some or all of the following... -Monsters to tough -Monsters to easy -Godsword has bad stats -Godsword is overpowered ---Pking is ruined yada yada yada. ---Whip is worthless yada yada yada. -Bad weilding requirements -Way to high weilding requirements Low levels will complain that they never get updates... ...Yet the rants forum will still be completely full of the same old "Aye! Y cant i eet brnt fooodz?!?@!3" spam topics. ~~ Ah well...wouldnt be runescape without any of that. :D I think Jagex is really onto something with this update and I really really hope for their sake that the people like it too. I know I will! :D ...I hope... :ohnoes: Hehe kidding. I think part of the draw of RuneScape to some of the more mature players, is the sense of satisfaction that you are so clearly more mature than others ... therefore a rantable update is probably pretty critical to the framework of the community O:) Otherwise we'll have to rant about having nothing to rant about ... and if I had to do that, then I'd have to rant about having to rant about having nothing to rant about ... and if I had to do that .......... OK, I've got mad now ... I'll shut up ... but a bit of senseless humour (that is what it was supposed to be in case you were wondering) can be good from time to time.

You start with a random maximum reward, then get x% of that reward once you finish. You started with a larger starting point. My best ... 645 feathers, sad isn't it. Only had 2 mazes though.

To be honest, it would concern me if they had to do this sort of thing with a major update. I would expect that the dungeon would have been developed, tested, and be pretty much ready to go BEFORE it was announced in BTS. Otherwise it really opens Jagex up for a killer bug which would look really bad (release with bug or delay release??). I'd only expect KB updates to be done in the weeks leading up to final release of an update (and we've seen that even those happen well in advance at times).

You're not really after 'funny posts', but more funny quotes that people can share to make each other laugh. Not really RS related at all, but I'm always up for a laugh. Here's something vaguely related ... and needs to be used in the right context: "It's like comparing buffaloes to butterflies" I came up with it when asked to compare 2 staff that we were looking at hiring for a job. Went down really well at the time.

If you had the herblore level to make pray potions ...

If they did some system updates to all the servers in preparation for this update, or even in adjustment following on from the Clan Chat update (to minimise lag) AND then added God Wars dungeon at the same time ... ... the risk of problems is huge. It is sensible business and project management to - as much as possible - make big changes independently, so that you know when a problem occurs, what change caused the problem. This may be the process they are going through, although a short note about system updates made could easily have eliminated the wondering. "Hey everyone, we've made some secret system changes this week in preparation for upcoming updates ... bet you can't wait ... it's really good ... you were hoping it would be this week, weren't you ... Muahahahahaha"

On my very first account (not this one) I didn't pay attention on tutorial island. Therefore I didn't know about banks so kept everything on me. Completed a couple of quests that gave me heaps of gp (like Sheep Shearer) and then died to a goblin. The world had ended, all was lost, so I started again ... only died a couple of times since (not counting once on purpose to see Grim Reaper). story isn't it?

lagging/sudden disconnections as part of the game
truffoo replied to Matok's topic in General Discussion
My biggest problem is the 'Back' key right above the left arrow key on my notebook keyboard. Ad kicks in, takes context out of game window, wrong key, Detail select screen. Happened today just after I attacked a Lesser. Couldn't log back in for a while because I was already logged in. Fortunately was high enough health to nail the Lesser and had been long enough to get them to stop auto attacking. Other than that, lags are normally caused by your internet connection. PC speed has nothing to do with it. If you are on a shared connection (e.g., DSL), then your speed would be affected by others also using the connection. Clan Chat may have increased the risk of lag on full servers, but I'm sure they would have thought through that scenario.
