The assumption is that the rest of the interface will stay the same. Maybe they'll redo the whole game window and make it all bigger.

A little step for jagex, a large stap for runescape
truffoo replied to a topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I remember your suggestion, which came out well before the GE, so whoever above suggested that this is a new idea is very wrong. Another form of expression, give F2P bank space and they'll be happy, give P2P anything and they'll complain (well, many will). :-k On topic though, I support a minor update like this to help both F2P and low construction P2P players to store random clothing. It should be a little more limited than the costume room to still make that a better choice. But my money is on a bank system update next year that will give F2P some more space (whether it is actual slots or a smarter way to store sets I'm not sure). -
Most of Jagex staff have real lives (well a few of them maybe), and I'm sure they aren't daft enough to release an update like this on Jan 1. I'd take Jan 7th or 14th as my picks for the Summoning release. Of course they may be really mean and make people wait until the last update of the month. The way that I read the summoning information, is that it will support many skills (i.e., the summoned creatures will assist with different skills), and that it is NOT related to magic. Therefore, any use of essence at most would be as an ingredient. I can see it as being fed by a few different skills (hunter, farming, mining) and supporting all or most skills.

Future New Items, how will the GE affect them?
truffoo replied to Rahila's topic in General Discussion
Jagex already set a 'price' on all items in the game, it's just called the High Alchemy value. Obviously, on rarer items, it has no real influence on GE pricing. On commodities it does have some influence (e.g., players are only willing to take so much loss on steel bars to raise smithing and high alc). Surely they'll do a 'Tears' on new items. Have a lead in period where they aren't GE capable while prices settle a little. -
Prayer: The wings get excited and catapult you high into the air. Then Saradomin above sees you coming and throws you back to the ground and you leave a hole in the ground.

I'm sure a good solution would be for black marks on low-mid offenses to be removed after a time and a small gp fine of 10k payable to me. Sounds fair to me :^o But seriously, I've got to agree. Context needs to be looked at more than it is already. At a minimum, old black marks should carry less weight if they can't be completely removed.

I'd bet that they've got some pretty funky detection in place to actually help detect bots better using GE. I am certain that they would have considered this effect.

That's not quite right. Your offer must be the same or more than what the person is selling for. I bought a few cosmics, offered the default price, but actually paid the bottom price. The system seems to fulfil your order from the cheapest seller first, although if there is a direct match it may well take that first.

Not this time ... it's got to happen though.

Congratulations, you just advanced a summoning level
truffoo replied to onedaysoon's topic in General Discussion
Just a sudden thought about Summoning ... It was originally mentioned in 2004. A first brief was written in 2005, which was then shelved for various reasons, but the major item immediately after the first brief was Farming. Around that time (I think), you started getting birds eggs from woodcutting (correct me if I'm wrong here - highly possible). In Postbag from the Hedge #11 (27 September 2006) we read: This Postbag was released around the same time as "E) Mod Wilson rewrites brief again". Surely this is the use for bird's eggs that we've been wondering about for so jolly long ... -
Not that isn't easily avoided by using a different web browser, reinstalling your PC, etc. There will never be a foolproof way to identify whether the person is a formerly banned player, or whether they will break the rules again.

I don't agree that this should be F2P at all. I am a F2P player, and don't pay because I don't play enough to justify it. If anything, they could release an existing members skill to free players (e.g., fletching), but give a new skill to f2p should never happen. It's just wrong based on how much investment would have gone into Summoning. It's a bit like a toll bridge ... those that pay get the benefit. After a long period of time, the toll might be removed because the costs are now offset. -
Just what I was going to say. While they may significantly change the way the player-to-player trading works, they still need to allow for people lending/giving to their real-in-game friends. That and allowing for runners (rune ess, ores/fish/wood that the person can't be bothered banking or dropping). If they can effectively allow for those without creating too big a hole, then I don't think they'd lose too many players. What I actually think the short term plan is, is to put in the GE to help stream out the majority of valid trades to leave a higher percentage of RWT trades left using the current trade method. It'll be easier to track RWT trades when the volume is a lot less. Whether they restrict sale price for low value items or not, they will have trackers in place to detect when items are sold for way more than they should be. I'd suggest that gold sellers using GE would pretty quickly get banned, at least until they worked out a way around it. I have no doubt, however, that removing player to player trading has been, or is being, thought about by Jagex. I'd take a stab that nothing is decided on it yet.

IP Bans are great in theory, but a majority of home players are on dynamic IP addresses, meaning that next time they restart their router, or login using their modem, they get a new IP address. If they did IP ban, there is a risk (small, but still a risk), that they ban a legitimate player by accident who gets a banned IP assigned. I agree that they didn't lie, but I suspect that players got a bit smarter and started using Duel Arena to transfer sold gp. That is harder to track compared with basic unbalanced trades.

Of course not. OT: In fact, I think Jagex have lost quite a bit of money considering they released the DD Summoning Diary not even on a Tuesday. If they have quite a lot of people cancelling memberships all of a sudden they are going to panic and say "Well tell them we're coming out with summoning so they don't quit and stay to see hwo cool that will be". Just a theory. I think they were always planning to release the DD last week. Probably planned that way to try and get attention away from the duel update. Surely they would have known that players wouldn't like it. I'd say there are very few players who only have a staker account. More often than not, they will have a main or more as well. Therefore, unless they cancel all their accounts, the overall hit on Jagex will be minimal. What it will mean of some, is they will start to enjoy the game in other ways ... probably creating a new account for a different type of gameplay.

Will summoning bring daytime and nighttime?
truffoo replied to darksonic45's topic in General Discussion
Maybe instead of 24hour days they would be 12 hours, so 2 rs days for every 'Earth' days. Nice thought, but it's obvious that a RS day is equal to at least 4 earth days, probably more. The evidence: Would be pretty tough to implement a day / night concept that is actually useful without unbalancing the game towards players who play more casually / at consistent times. -
Ahem.... New thing for next year is summoning...
truffoo replied to Goldenjkered's topic in General Discussion
Everything in the Dev diary implies to me that this is the big update they were referring to, including Jan 2008 release. It's been long enough coming, so it better be good ... not that it matters for little old me . -

It won't be F2P and it shouldn't be. We only 'pay' through ads for the server resources and a share in the generic updates. In no way should we get this sort of thing as an update. On Topic: Summon a bulldog ... go get Jad doggy ... you watch your pup hanging off Jad's leg ... -
Not this Christmas. It's far too late for them to start thinking about it now. They will be all or mostly through the development of the Christmas event, and be testing/QA and KBing it over the next month.

The Duel Arena was designed to be a fun side-part of the game. Unfortunately this has been 'corrupted' by those using it to transfer items between accounts and gold sellers. Therefore all those who legitimately duel lose out on a fun part of the game to them. Rioters should be blaming gold sellers for this ... there was probably no other way, although I think 3K/15min is a bit low. Good on Jagex for making changes to try and stamp out rule breakers. With any change focused at this, legitimate players will almost always get hurt to an extent as well. I'd bet that they would listen to well formed opinion/comments about improving the arena update.

Monday Poll: Have you ever been scammed by a friend?
truffoo replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
They are missing an option: * Never, I have no friends! ̢̮Ãâ¹Ã¢â¬Â Ãâ¦Ã¡ -
+1 +2. If you want to have a game like that, go play WoW. The fact that you can only be human is actually one of the main defining features of Runescape. You aren't restricted in any way, and everybody is equal from the start, and you can go in any direction you like. If you end up with separate starting points (Ie as a different race), you end up in separation of players, and there will end up being a goal for players which they truly can't achieve, which will then destroy a significant piece of RS. Like dark dude said, the whole game is built around us being human, and quests/history revolves around that fact. Don't forget that you can become a monkey, a penguin and more recently a goblin. If anything, you'll be able to temporarily morph into other races, but it would be good if that morphing process gave you some benefits, e.g., while morphed into an Elve, you get a range boost.

Runescape update: May include Mechscape?
truffoo replied to Darkluniux's topic in General Discussion
Why shouldn't Tip.it host another MMO fan site? They already host LOTRO which isn't a Jagex product. Ultimately it comes down to people wanting to run it, and whether some of the Tip.it owners are interested in the new game. On topic: 'Proof' would be RuneScape 0 days, MechScape 0 days. This is entirely speculation which may or may not pan out. My guess, is that the 2 new games would (if on a subscription basis) utilise the same underlying billing system (why duplicate it?), but would probably just have colours and graphics changed out. I'm sure the billing system update was purely to provide flexibility for next year. And I'm also sure that the announced big update is RuneScape related, otherwise they will get a huge backlash about the expectation they are setting up. -
Tip.it Times Presents: Remembering the Good ol' Days.

The problem is that any article anywhere will always have a level of generalisation (generally they do anyway  ). Just not enough space to de-generalise. But good article ... I remember when I was a youngun ... -
The sorts of people that you would want to meet in F2P are likely doing something useful rather than lingering around Lumby, Varrock or Falador. The times that I've seen members in dragon or skill capes, everyone has been quite appropriate towards them
