Try Arghoslent. They are a highly technical melodic death metal band that is really good at making quality riffs. The lyrics are pretty racist though, unfortunately, but they are growled so it doesn't really matter. Try their album Hornets of the Pogrom. Oops, Wookie ninja'd me, that was intended for Jaerk. Anyways, Wookie, try Sholi. they are a really good Indie rock band with a great vocalist and AMAZING drum work. They only have one full length, which is self-titled, so try some stuff on youtube first. i think you'll like them though.

Trophy Scars - Hospital Music for the Aesthetics of Language (album) REALLY good album of some sort. I guess it could be tagged as post-hardcore. now time for: Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice (album) Seems really good so far, though I'm only on the second track of my first listen.

Injection is a separate song. Today, I've listened to: Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the Between (album) Brand New - Deja Entendu (album) Cursive - Domestica (album) All three are brilliant, though Streetlight's other album is still better.

Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Scenes From A Memory? Octavarium? Boring. Widdlywoodly solos everywhere. Double boring. It's a Muse album. Though I agree on Octavarium being bad, does that mean you dislike Muse?

Getting a Job at 14 [Lock Please]
I have a friend who got work as a golf caddy at 14, as well as another who sells ice cream at some Italian place over the summers. Both of them seem to enjoy it.

Albums you're looking forward to or enjoy from 2009!
Cursive's new album came out recently. It is only available on their website at the moment and is currently $2 and going up by $1 a day until it comes out on March 10. I highly recommend it, it is quite a great album. http://saddle-creek.com/ Also, Sholi released their debut album a few weeks ago. It is a quite excellent Indie Rock release with just amazing drumming. I would highly recommend that as well. Many people here will be interested in Gorod's new album coming out in June. Swallow the Sun has an album coming out in fall. As Cities Burn has an album coming out in late April, from the sound of the new song on their myspace it will be amazing. Mastodon's Crack the Skye has mostly leaked , but I haven't listened to it yet. I'm still forgetting a lot, but oh well.

While not hard music, the contrast of instruments and vocals are amazing It came out in 2007, not 2008.

You might have already heard this, but try Gordian Knot. I would recommend their self-titled album. It is an instrumental Progressive Metal band containing members of Cynic amongst other bands (such as John Myung from Dream theater playing Chapman's stick).
