  1. Really? I thought you of all people would have liked them o.O. I've liked everything of Swano's that i've heard so far (which is basically edge of Sanity and his solo stuff) Scar Symmetry - "Holographic Universe"
  2. Edge of Sanity - "Crimson" If you like melodeath, get this. Now. it's basically a 40 minute long song/album, but it flows so well an d the riffs change so often that it plays like it's 10 minutes. Just incredible.
  3. Lately, it's been: (no order) Pain of Salvation Opeth Rise Against mewithoutYou Animal Collective maudlin of the Well Cynic Mastodon Muse In Mourning
  4. Why should that matter if you still enjoy the song? I've never understood this. Just because I listen to Burzum doesn't mean i support church burnings and murder.
  5. I haven't heard anything by them aside from MPP. What would you recommend? Agreed on Summertime Clothes being amzing though. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (album)
  6. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors (album) Amazing Prog metal album, recommended to anyone who likes the genre.
  7. Yeah, I agree with you now. After I listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion again, I fell in love with it. "My Girls," "Summertime Clothes," and "Brothersport" are my favorite tracks off it, though everything is amazing on it. I just heard that maudlin of the Well is going to be hitting the studio soon, it should be amazing. Has anyone else heard Mastodon's new song, "Divinations?" It was incredible. Crack the Skye is going to be epic.

    Rap

Though I have found some rap that I like (Wu-Tang Clan's Enter the Wu-tang (36 Chambers), Nas's Illmatic, cLOUDDEAD's self-titled, and some songs by Sage Francis (haven't heard too many though. Must fix soon)), I've never really had the inclination to really get into it.
  9. Try Gordian Knot. They are an instrumental progressive metal band, similar to Liquid Tension Experiment, made up of members of Cynic amongst other bands. John Myung of Dream Theater also plays the Chapman's stick on some of their songs. (If you don't already listen to Cynic, do so as well).
  10. I've been drumming for 4.5 years, though I've only had my set for the last year. I got my set used, so I don't really know the specifics about it other than it being a Ludwig. It's pretty much a standard single bass drum set with a second crash cymbal and a double bass pedal. Definitely stick with the lessons. If you practice and your teacher is good, you should be able to become decent in a much shorter time, and you won't be developing as many bad habits such as a faulty grip. I don't know anything about that particular practice pad, but if you can't / don't want to invest in a full set or even a snare drum, they are worth it. You probably could find a pad for cheaper, though it wouldn't necessarily have the stand.
  11. I'm probably one of the only ones here who started with C++ (had to take a mandatory course in it), but it isn't overly difficult imo. Though I did have HTML experience prior to that, I do not know if it had anything to do with it. My C++ teacher gave us three problems off this site as homework assignments. I didn't realize that until now, however XD. I might try some of these. It will give me an excuse to continue programming XD.
  12. Alright, I'm sorry for making my opening post unclear, it was rather late. Anyways,N0m and SerpentEye have the right definition of what I'm looking for. Also, I do not know if my teacher will allow me to read an alternate reality book. Also, I forgot to mention that the book has to be set after the year 1500. Sorry... The teacher just wants people to read a book and tie it into the class somehow. I guess there is a literacy problem at my school, though I don't really know because I'm in all honors classes. Thank you for all the recommendations so far!
  13. I really like reading historical Fiction (though I still prefer fantasy novels), but that isn't really the reason I posted this. For my History class I have to read a historical fiction novel that is not set in America. Any recommendations? (Sorry if I'm not allowed to post this or I got the wrong forum).
  14. The Butterfly effect - Final Conversation of Kings (album) That's over, now time for Cynic - Traced in Air (album)
  15. Eh, the only Underoath I like is Lost in the Sounds of Separation. My copy of Land Bridge by Isthmus came in today. It is incredible. The easiest I could describe it is Cult of Luna meets Between the Buried and Me and writes shorter songs. I really would recommend it if that sounds interesting, it's only about $10 from their myspace.
  16. Try listening to Nevermore's album Dreaming Neon black.
  17. Glad to see you are getting into Cynic... Definitely listen to Traced in Air as well, though. Isthmus - Land bridge (album) Amazing Post metal with what seems like a hint of Between the Buried and Me at times. These guys really need a bit of recognition.
  18. Lol? Listen to The Downward Spiral. (by Nine Inch Nails).
  19. There are some really great bands (Dark Tranquility, old In Flames, Be'Lakor, Kalmah), but a lot of trash.
  20. lolwut Paradise Lost isn't a concept album. Great band though. Yes it is because it is based on John Milton's Paradise Lost. As far as I know, only the title track has anything to do with the poem. Try maudlin of the Well.
  21. lolwut Paradise Lost isn't a concept album. Great band though. Try Pain of Salvation, particularly the albums Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element.
  22. Perhaps you would like In Mourning? I don't know if you like Prog Death though (they aren't an Opeth clone, don't worry), but they are amazing. They only have one album, Shrouded Divine. Check out the song "The Black Lodge".

    Rock Band II

Yeah, that used to happen to me when I played that song. If you think that's fast, though...Try This Calling or Chiron.
