Yeah, from what I've gathered Eddings is pretty awful. I've also heard that the Dark Tower books get bad after book 3 or 4, though I wouldn't know as I'm only about halfway through the first one. I'm currently reading The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. I'm about halfway through, and it is REALLY good so far.
  2. Thanks, they sound really interesting. I noticed that you've been mentioning post-hardcore a lot lately, so try Thrice (sorry if you already listen to them). They are mainly a post-hardcore band, but they experiment with a lot of other things. My favorite album of theirs is The Artist in the Ambulence, though most people like The Illusion of Safety best.
  3. Mister M - Rezolution (album) Really good Post-rock-ish electronica band. You can download the album here.
  4. Perhaps you would like Mister M. they are a really good electronic band that plays in sort of a post-rock style and has a very relaxed feel. You can legally download their discography here. I recommend the album Rezolution. I'd prefer some nonmetal this time.
  5. Yeah, Appeal to Reason was their worst album (though I still liked it), but the three that preceded it are pretty much incredible.
  6. The Sufferer and the Witness, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, and Revolutions Per minute are their best albums. Get whichever of those three you don't have before Appeal to Reason.
  7. haha i wouldnt really call brand new underrated or unknown, just not main stream. they just set up a small east coast tour and each of the venues sold out in less than a minute. Yeah, but barely anyone on this site listens to them, and I figurd that a lot of people would like them.

    Hardcore

this. I rank hardcore among metalcore as some of my most hated music. Try listening to Converge, Botch, Becoming the Archetype, Misery Signals, Unearth, and newer Underoath before you completely count metalcore out. I don't listen to any sort of hardcore. I basically haven't had the inclination.
  9. There is always William Shatner's cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."
  10. Emery - In Shallow Seas We Sail (Album) Really awesome, surprisingly.
  11. I'm looking for a good turn-based strategy game for the GBA or DS. I've pretty much played through and loved the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem series, and am looking for a game possibly in that vein. Thanks!
  12. Black moth super rainbow . You like Tobacco to? (Former project) I actually never listened to it. I probably should though.
  13. Should be especially easy to do that. I've been keeping a list at the bottom of the third page.
  14. Angra - Rebirth (album) Pretty good Power Metal. "Acid rain" is probably my favorite off here.
  15. I have a lot. Not my absolute favorites, but they all are very good and need to be heard by more people here. (MeloDeath) (Not quite sure what genre, but it's really trippy) (Pop-Punk, but don't be off-put by the genre). (Not quite sure, sort of punk meets Bruce Springsteen in a good way) (Prog metal/Prog death, sounds sorta like Opeth with Dark tranquility influences and less of the loud-soft dynamics and clean singing) Intronaut (Post-Metal with breakdowns. better than that sounds) Lo-Fi Scorpio (Industrial, link has legal download of discography. Get Noir) mewithoutYou (No clue, but one of my favorite bands. Christian lyrics though, but they aren't overbearing. Whole Brother, Sister album is recommended.) (AMAZING Prog death) (Pop-punk, some of the best there is) Thrice (Post-Hardcore, but they branch into a lot of other stuff on later albums) Trophy Scars (Sorta Post-Hardcore, but just unique. try their debut, Hospital Music for the Aesthetics of Language) (Metalcore) All of these bands are really good and worth listening to.
  16. I'm a high school freshman, all honors courses and in a district accelerated math/science program (MST, I don't know if it is widespread). My Geometry exam was today, and it was incredibly simple. I'm pretty sure I only got one or two points off on it. I have Chemistry on monday, and it also shouldn't be too bad. On Tuesday I have my Statistics final, about which I am concerned because of how long some of the problems take and that instead of getting a note card to write down some formulas, we have to write them on a shirt >.>. aside from that, however, it probably won't be too difficult. Wednesday is my Band exam, which will be a joke. Thursday is English and History. My english teacher tends to give pretty difficult exams, but I already aced the poetry and riddle sections (>.>) and the essay came out well enough. However, I'm a bit frightened about how deep of detail the questions about Romeo and Juliet will be. History will be incredibly easy; just a bunch of multiple choice. Even if I do a little worse than i think, I already got As in everything last two quarters, so anything a B+ or higher will keep my 4.0.

    Punk!

Contributing to the Fall of Troy discussion, they are math rock. Also, as far as post-hardcore goes, I really love Thrice, but haven't really tried out any other bands.
  18. I can't say I ever watched anything of his before, but I really liked the first episode of his on the Tonight Show and definately will keep watching when I'm up late enough.

I have just finished Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and it was quite a great read. The story is about a man named Shadow who is released from jail after three years to be told that his wife had died in a car crash . He gets a plane ride home for the funeral when he meets a man that calls himself Wednesday, who seems to know more about Shadow than anyone should. Shadow eventually begins to work for Wednesday and becomes involved in a great conflict between the old gods and the new. Even if this sounds cheesy, I would highly recommend this book to most anyone, though I admit that it is a mature read. The book never drags at all throughout its ~600 pages, and Gaiman's writing is stellar.
  20. Interesting list. I actually haven't heard most of these. A lot of albums on here are ones that i've never really gotten around to listening to, though I've been meaning to for a while. Now that is a difficult question. Personally, I listened to Nas' album before I'd heard the others. I'd probably say Nas or Notorious B.I.G. just because they are so often imitated by others (and mostly imitated poorly) plus Notorious B.I.G has a good mix of modern beats and great lyrics. Common has a pretty modern sound (because it's the newest of those albums) while Eric B & Rakim and Run DMC have a much more older sound. It really depends on your own taste (that sounds like such a cop out but it isn't meant to be). I've never been into rap, but I tried those out(Nas and Notorious B.I.G.). They are all right, it just isn't the genre for me. I generally like to hear random songs every now and then, just not listen to albums. I felt similar about the genre for a while. The albums that really got me into rap were Eminem's Marshal Mathers LP and Atmosphere's When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That [cabbage] Gold. Try those as well before you write off rap albums.
  21. I really love them, The Sufferer and the Witness being my favorite album of theirs and just one of my favorite albums. Appeal to Reason was their weakest that i've heard by far (haven't heard The Unraveling though), but their are definitely still some great songs on there (Savior).

Can you be a bit more specific/Like, what are some books that have had that effect on you before?
  23. A Day to remember - Homesick (album) Not of my choosing, a friend is trying to force it upon me. It hasn't gotten any better yet...ugh. Lately though, I've been listening to a lot of Fall Out Boy - Folie a Deux (album)
  24. One of my friends made me listen to this. All of the tracks were mediocre to bad and the album just goes on for way too long.

I mainly read epic fantasy when I have time, as well as many "classics" for school (Advanced English and History, so I have to go through a ton of them). My favorite series by far is the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin (thanks, N0M) and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Fantasy. Martin is an incredible writer, especially in the depth of his characters and the brutality he shows towards them. Lately I've been reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson. I'm halfway through the second book now, and it is really good so far, probably my second favorite series so far behind AsoIaF. It may take a while to get into the first book. The series is much more magic based than Martin's. Also, this guy writes some of the best battle scenes I've read... Lately in my History class we've read Animal Farm by George Orwell, and I highly enjoyed it, so I picked up 1984 last night and am looking forward to reading it. For the same class, I have recently read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad (one of the most boring things I've ever read) and The Trial by Franz Kafka (which would have been really good if it was actually finished). I'm currently reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and once I got over the lead character's obsession with manliness and yams, it is actually becoming pretty good. My last few purchases included: The Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield (historical fiction about the Battle of Thermopylae; i.e. 300) The Darkness that Comes Before by R. Scott Baker (epic fantasy, really anxious to read, supposedly as good as Martin) 1984 by George Orwell Candide by Voltaire Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift Oh, and just a random question: If I hated The Odyssey, might I still like The Illiad? Also have any of you read Candide? Is it good?
