  1. This girl I've sort of liked for about a month just got dumped by her boyfriend of 4 months. I started becoming friends with her in mid-February, but we still aren't really too close of friends. I mean I talk to her every couple days because she's in band and English with me, and I've texted and imed her a couple times, but we haven't hung out yet, so I don't think I'd be friendzoned (besides the last few people she dated were already friends with her beforehand, so I don't think friendzone is that much of an issue with her xD). Um, about how much time should I wait before making some sort of advance? Also, um, I don't really know how I could do so without it being awkward, because most of the techniques in here are for people you don't know, while I actually know this girl (Bekah for future reference). I don't know if I'm forgetting anything, so if you need more information than this let me know, its late here. Oh also, could I put up pictures of how I normally dress and get some advice on how to improve from you guys? I think I do pretty decently, but I could almost definitely use some improvement xD.
  2. And the Poison wasn't? After listening to it, its decent for a hot topic metalcore band and much more listenable than the last one.
  3. Are you sure you're thinking about Bullet for my Valentine?
  4. Zombieland is the only zombie movie I've seen, but it was pretty awesome. I'm going to have to check out some of these other ones now.
  5. There's magic everywhere in this [bleep]. In all seriousness though, I don't really listen to enough mainstream rap to tell, but most artists have longer than one year gaps in their albums anyways, not to mention he'll probably be doing writing in prison. As much as I despise Lil Wayne's music, he probably won't be dying out quite yet.
  6. Yes, I have read that whole wreck of a scene, and I don't know what TVTropes is. I haven't read the series, but I know enough about the series otherwise from some other sources, namely friends who obsessed over them and other threads about the series on forums of book series I enjoyed.
  7. The Gaslight Anthem is definitely worth seeing live if the opportunity arises.
  8. Lately I haven't had much time to read anything aside from what I've had to read for my British lit class; Fortunately its a good class and I haven't particularly disliked anything we've had to read. I recently finished Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which was excellent, and am currently reading Brave New World, which is very interesting so far, though I'm only about halfway through it. Oh, and Serephurus, I noticed you said you wanted to read A Modest Proposal. It's interesting, but I just wanted to make sure you knew its not much of a book lengthwise, as it was just a pamphlet published by Swift. You can easily read it in one sitting online somewhere when you get bored. Very... interesting read though.
  9. I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on the writing level of a book series containing the Chicken that is not a Chicken scene. Eddings isn't much good aside from being a popular fantasy book of its time in Eragon's vein, but its a lot older so people tend to think its better. Like Eragon, its just a gateway to well-written fantasy.
  10. First: No However, though this is an extremely old post, anyone interested in reading good fantasy and moving on from garbage like Eragon should try reading George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (starts with A Game of Thrones) and Joe Abercrombie's The First Law Trilogy (starts with The Blade Itself). These series are both phenomenal and allowed me to transition into more mature fantasy.
  11. Basically anything off the Bends. Especially My Iron Lung, Just, or Fake Plastic Trees.
  12. Eluvium - Copia (album) SOOO good, Similies was such a disappointment after this.
  13. Billy Joel is probably my most nostalgic artist. When I was in fourth grade or so my mother would always put on this Billy Joel DVD and it ended up being the first actual music that I liked... and is probably the only music I listened to in elementary school that I still like today xD. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback and "The Reason" by Hoobastank are similarly nostalgic, but I can't stand either band nowadays. My Seventh grade was basically Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Panic at the Disco. I'm not really proud of it to say the least xD.
  14. [hide=Background] [/hide] I chickened out yesterday at the last minute. Today, however, I asked her to snowcoming just as I was about to leave. She said maybe, and then explained that she didn't know if she could go yet or not, but if she could go then she would go with me. I guess I'll just have to see if this is a soft let-down or not, but I can hope. EDIT: Guess not. She texted me later and said that she couldn't come because she had to sing at church and babysit and her parents wouldn't let her out of it or something. Ah well, at least rejections are getting easier to deal with. [/hide] If anyone was wondering what came of this...Nothing did. I talked to her on facebook later on that day (last Saturday), and everything still seemed normal. After that I didn't talk to her on Sunday at all (I didn't see her and I didn't want to look desperate by starting to text her), and I didn't see her on monday either as she had been put into a different English class at the semester. Tuesday was the next rehearsal and as such it was the next time I saw her, but something was different. She dropped basically all of the IOIs (thought they were admittedly small in the first place) that she had been giving me all last week and she spent all the time she could away from light crew and with her other friends in the pit (band members, its a musical). We started talking again on wednesday, but it was still awkward and I just ran out of things to talk about, and by Thursday I had started to accept it. However, on Thursday things changed direction again. We had started talking a bit, but it still was nothing like last week. the light crew started playing truth or dare in the light booth, and someone asked her who she was crushing on most right now. She quickly turned around and looked out the window and said that she didn't want to say because they might be in the auditorium and she didn't want them to hear. I didn't know if she actually liked someone in the pit (she doesn't talk to any of the actors) or if it was a coverup, but I started hoping it was the latter. Yesterday was the first competition, and I again dropped any thoughts of her liking me as she basically stopped talking to me again. By then. I wasn't worried about it anymore and just talked to other people up until the competition. Our school got a first division rating on the play, and the light crew got a superior award. .After that, a couple people hooked their iPods up to the auditorium's sound system and started an impromptu dance for about 2 hours. After I was basically dragged on stage, I started dancing and it was some of the most fun I've had...well, since homecoming. I danced with like half the people there, had a circle mosh pit stated me, got carried around a couple times (I'm rather small xD), and was basically a center of attention at the beginning, and I just felt like I was on top of the world. I don't think I've ever felt that confident about myself any time before, and i figured, what the hell, maybe I could try getting to dance with Stacey again. However, I tried about 3 times throughout the dance and she just kept denying me every time just to dance with her friends again as soon as I looked away. But by then, I didn't really care. There are other things to life xD. In summary: this week she stopped all the IOIs and I'm done worrying about dating her. I can still eventually find someone else xD.
  15. Don't let it deter you too much from her. The excuse sounded pretty legit to me. However if she gives you another excuse next attempt, take that as the hint to back off. This is a speed bump, not a road block. Alright, Thanks. Now, I have a bit of a snag as to what exactly to attempt next. I figure that I should probably act again this week or else possibly be friendzoned. However, there are a couple issues. I can't do anything most weekdays due to homework and drama rehearsals (though she's in drama with me anyways so it's not like I wouldn't be seeing her at all). Also, Friday is the first drama competition at like 5:00, and though the play only takes about 45 minutes, there will probably be rehearsal or a cast dinner or something afterward, so it would be sort of difficult to plan something that night. Also, I don't know if Sunday would be all that great of an idea. Every Sunday I have a decent sized get-together (about 10 people normally) to which most of my friends are invited that takes up the whole day. However, She doesn't really know anyone who goes there and inviting her to something like that would probably also be a drop into friendzone. That logically leaves Saturday. However, I have a drum lesson then from 4:30-5:00 (though I can try to get it earlier), and my mom might be throwing a welcome party for a new exchange student that came in yesterday, meaning I don't know if I could leave. The other problem, even if Saturday was viable, it's hard to coordinate a place to go. We're both sophomores and neither of us can drive, which limits the places we can go greatly, seeing as we would have to be driven by parents. There's a park not too far from the school, but that's 2 miles away from my house and it's the middle of winter (in Michigan, so its cold xD), so that probably isn't the best idea. The ice cream parlor is similarly a 45 minute-ish walk away, which would be a bad idea in the winter in addition to the fact that I would have no guarantee of a ride home afterward. Also, I'm not sure that we'd really be ready for something that consisted of nothing available but talk for a couple hours. I really don't want to do something cheesy like a dinner or movie, there aren't even any I'd be interested in seeing and i lurk this thread enough to know why to avoid them. Basically, that would probably leaves my house if I were to ask her somewhere I think, and I don't know if I could really entertain her there for that long. the only place really within walking distance is a plaza with a gas station, 7-11, decent restaurant, dollar store, and salvation army, and while it can provide decent enough entertainment with friends, I don't know how something like that would go with a date. ... maybe Sunday wouldn't be so bad xD. So basically...What can I do with that?
  16. no, i believe her, I already knew that she was in choir too so it's not like its anything unrealistic. It's just that I specifically asked her to that dance, not on a normal date I guess (meaning she might have been thinking we were going as friends or something like Amy did, then again Amy was gay), so I don't really know how to react to this now. I guess that would be my question then: Should I still be trying to date her or should I stop because of this?

  18. Generic Introduction here. I'm in drama at my school on light crew, and this month we've been rehearsing for a statewide drama competition. Lighting people haven't had to start coming to rehearsals until last friday though. At the rehearsal on Firday I noticed a couple new people in lighting but I didn't really pay them much mind. At the end of rehearsal, Amy (the girl I went to homecoming with that turned out to be a lesbian and is in charge of lighting) told me that I had to be at the rehearsal that was this monday (MLK day so normally no school). When I got there on monday, there was only one other person from lighting there, a new girl named Stacey (well I had known her before from my English class but never really talked to her or anything) who apparently was the only other one Amy told to come. Naturally I started talking to her early in the rehearsal, and as friday was literally her first day on lighting, she didn't really know all that much about it, so I showed her stuff like where to find things in the light booth, how to run the boards, etc. She was nice enough, and after I finished showing her around the booth we ended up sitting next to each other and watching the rest of the rehearsal (we didn't really have much else to do without Amy being there). We talked for most of the rest of the four hour rehearsal. I mean we did other things in between as well, like went on a little adventure throughout the open music rooms and auditorium to find something for a pit keyboardist and going up to the catwalks for a little while. As she was leaving I got her number and texted her for a little bit later in the night. I didn't really talk to her that much until today, when we had another drama rehearsal (very little opportunity in the one class we have together). Though we didn't really talk much before the rehearsal (i mean we obviously both have other friends xD), She stayed by me for most of the rehearsal today too. We talked a lot again, especially when we were both in the booth running spotlights without anyone else up there, and there are a lot of breaks where we could talk. By now, I want to ask her to the Snowcoming dance . It's coming up on February 6, so basically if I want to take her I'm going to have to act probably tomorrow. Now, here are the possible IOIs, I don't really know if any of them are legitimate. -She talked to me for most of the rehearsal today even though some of her best friends were also there. -Snowcoming eventually came up in our conversation on monday (well I sort of led it there xD), and she mentioned that she didn't have anyone to go with and didn't know if she'd even be going even though she was on student council planning it. -I think i caught her staring at me in the light booth -Towards the end of the rehearsal, Amy assigned her to do a spotlight and me to run the board in the auditorium. After like a minute she came down and sat next to me and started talking to me. -Other people's relationships and that kind of stuff has come up multiple times when we talked on both days -She always seems to follow me around in the auditorium and when Amy gives group instructions she always stands kind of close next to me. Reading over this it seems kind of pathetic, but basically, does it seem like she likes me going off that? Seeing as I waited so late to post this I probably won't get a response before tomorrow when I'll probably ask her, but I just want some opinions.

This, basically, though I didn't think it got that boring. The characters were all generic too, especially the elves, I mean, Pandoran natives.
  20. Not really as much discussion value when there's no description of any of the albums to encourage people to listen to them.
  21. I've tried writing music, but I am really awful at making lyrics. However, I have taken to making some "electronic" music with fruity loops, mainly because that's all I know how to do with the program. If you're interested, you can listen to some of it at http://www.myspace.com/nokeyboardsareflyingwithoutus. It isn't the best, but I'm happy with "The coming of Autumn" (yeah I know it's pretentiously titled) and "Spiders," and if it sucks I want somebody to tell me because the only people who I've shown the music before are friends and they obviously give biased opinions. My main issue with writing music is that the only instrument that I play is drums, so while I can come up with ideas for melodies, I have no way of writing them down and thus quickly forget them. I'm trying to learn bass as well now to try to help the issue, but that combined with my inability to write lyrics makes it difficult for me to write anything other than those little 2 minute doodles on the myspace page.
  22. Well, I don't know how many of you remember my whole fiasco with Amy, but I have an... interesting end to the story. Basically, homecoming was a ton of fun, and the Tuesday after I asked her out (she wanted to see how homecoming went before committing to a relationship). She told me then that she liked me, but she didn't know if she wanted a boyfriend right now or not and that she'd get back to me. Well, after a week I decided to ask her if she'd made up her mind yet. She said no because she was "kinda with someone else," and she wanted to just be friends. Figures that this was the second time this happened out of the two girls I asked out xD. But anyways, I told her I didn't really mind (I don't know why, but the rejection really didn't suck nearly as much as the other time, and I was still in a good mood afterwards), and asked her who the other guy was. She then replied that she was a lesbian and the "someone else" was another girl. ...Lol, isn't that a story. My first date, kiss, and homecoming were all from a lesbian who was two grades above me, and she was the one who asked me out to homecoming xD. (I'm a sophomore and she's a senior in highschool, to those who may have forgotten). ...And of course, I can't relate the story to anyone I actually know due to her not publicly acknowledging her orientation. Guess I'll just tell them what she told me, that she didn't want a boyfriend right now. Still, Quite the story, I think, especially for what was a stereotypical introverted nerd last year xD.
  23. Mainly because I didn't really want to ask someone out over texting, though I probably should have in hindsight >.>. I was thinking I would wait to see what happened at the rehearsal on Wednesday when I next see her and maybe ask her there if I don't chicken out. And My original post had too many quote and hide tags so the formatting got screwed up and he tried quoting it. I took out some excess hide tags so it would look nicer.
  24. fun. - Aim and Ignite (album) Such a bloody great album, probably will end up being my album of the year. [yt]9qC4UVwY9RA[/yt] Surprising to me that a pop album affected me so.
  25. [hide=Background as of August 28]Alright, after posting this, most people here said i should make a move within a week or so. Seeing as a week has passed, I figured I should give an update. Basically, I didn't really make any more advances, and I really don't think I'm going to. I went to band camp thinking about how I should attempt to advance things there. There was a lot of free time and most of the drum line hung out together, so I spent more time with her in person rather than texting. After getting to know her more, I decided that I honestly would rather have her as a friend than try to make something more out of it and that I didn't really want to date her or anything anymore. However, wednesday was the day of the dance at camp. It was a lot of fun, despite the fact that I haven't the slightest clue how to dance. However, something sort of significant happened, otherwise I wouldn't be mentioning it. At one point I left my friends for a minute and was standing there, and she just came up to me and asked me if i danced. I was caught off guard and responded that I didn't know how, which she responded with an "oh" and walked away to rejoin some of her friends. After that I realized how stupid that probably was on my part and proceeded to mentally facepalm for the rest of the night. After the last song she hugged me, but I realize that that probably doesn't mean much to you people. Nothing else of that sort really happened on thursday or today aside from her basically convincing me more to join lighting in drama. I've basically decided not to pursue anything anymore because after spending more time with her I am fairly positive that she is not attracted to me and that any sort of relationship like that would just be utterly awkward. I guess things might change again, but I'm content with how things are now. [/hide] I didn't expect to have to bring this up again, but now more stuff happened and figured I should share, I guess. After I posted that, things still kept going to a let's just be friends sort of area, especially since she started dating some other guy before we even left for away band camp. I was fine with this, and was starting to get over it a bit. I mean, after she threw me into a pool at a party we were both at (marching band football afterparty thing), I figured I was basically friendzoned if anything xD. Then, at midnight last night, she started texting me. I asked what was up and she said she was just laying in bed and thinking about homecoming and school starting up soon. I tried to ignore any sort of connotation and said I was just working on an essay and I wasn't too worried about homecoming (I pretty much figured nothing would happen with her and I doubted I would meet anyone in that first month). She then asked if I was taking anyone, and I replied I would probably just end up going with some friends. Then she told me that she just broke up with her boyfriend and didn't have a date. I asked her if she would just be going with friends then, and she said, "I guess if the boy I ask doesn't want to go with me lol." After this I figured it was a bit obvious where things were going, so I asked if i knew whoever it was and she said "Kinda lol." I figured it was probably already obvious to her by then what I thought of her and asked who it was, adding that obviously if she didn't want to tell me she didn't have to. She replied to this by telling me not to worry about it and that I would see when she asked him. From this, I basically assumed it was either going to be me or someone else on drum line, seeing as she doesn't really talk to anyone else I talk with usually. Am I right in thinking this, or is it more likely that she's screwing with my head or something?
