  1. a lot of their stuff is cheaper, and is bought by people with a tight budged (so definitely not me, my comp is worth about 2500 euro's) and when their first dualcore was released, they had a pretty good market share for a while, not a very long while though
  2. So you admit that merchanters sell at rip-off prices? Otherwise, it should be perfectly possible to make a profit under the new system - think of Real Life, sites like eBay act as Grand Exchange, and yet people make money just by buying and selling without actually making anything, why should it be any different on RuneScape? Player will always buy at the lowest price, they always have - except that the lowest price was often the only price (when you're the only person selling it in a particular place), anyway, if you get the lowest price (which you can now do more easily) you can sell it for more (just a bit lower than the second-lowest price)
  3. I think: Of course it will change merchanting, but perhaps merchanting will become something that does not take forever and is reserved to rich noobs, but it will be something that slayer and crafters can participate in. Hopefully that will mean that us crafters and slayers won't be continuously ripped off by merchanters who are making considerably more money without actually making anything - but just by manipulating prices in such a way that it rips off everyone except themselves. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with normal merchanting as a concept, but it just seems like most of "them" first want to scam you and if that fails, 'just' rip you off with evil prices. On the other hand, perhaps the Exchange will be flooded by merchanters with evil prices, instead of honest crafters and slayers trying to sell their loot/products and trying to buy new materials/food, and then the merchanters might make money even faster than before - atleast the relatively honest non-scamming ones, because it's fairly hard to scam an Exchange (right?). Change is not always bad, IMO there is something seriously wrong with merchanting in RuneScape and the Exchange might just change that - for better or worse, we'll have to see.
  4. christmas tree (2005, dec 21st) (I'm the guy with the warrior helm, d long, rune armour and klanks gauntlets) old greater demon (january 2006)
  5. this Jade Vine, while lvl 167, isn't really good at fighting. In fact, it fights like a lvl 50 or something, it just has a lot of health and defense. It took me quite long to kill (with rune axe) but I hardly got any damage from it I found it quite hard to find the place to dig, not because it was hard to get around but I because I had no idea where to go. Maybe it's a good idea to have a picture of where you actually have to go?
  6. Username: Harold King Netherlands (no I'm not a noob)
  7. That the word "null" occasionally appears is only logical, but the head..? Maybe it happens to be the model with number 0? (does java use a binary 0 for null? if not, it would be 'whatever model had number [null-value]')
  8. finally there will be a market for death runes. It used to be pointless to make them, many people would buy them for only 250gp so natures were more profitable, but no longer! But law runes are probably still more profitable..
  9. Minor bug (introduced with the agility shortcuts - I don't know whether it is still around) If you had your cat following you and you failed the slippery-log shortcut in ardougne, your cat would walk to a spot right on the water! Screeny with myself and my own cat:
  10. Indeed they are not, only some species are - the big ones might be, but most of the small ones certainly aren't. (I hope some of these are new..) I've learned .. .. that there is no sky .. that you can perform magic with funny stones with a picture on them .. that being hit by some weapons makes you tired (torags hammers, whips with spec..) .. that rings take just as much space as plate armour .. that if you yell "red:" whatever you say next will be red instead .. that stringing a bow takes as much effort as cutting it .. that you only get slayer experience if someone told you to kill that specific species of monster .. that magnetism only affects arrows on the ground - not in the air .. that there are no real building stores (where you could buy any kind of plank etc) .. that when building a house, you will not need stones/planks for the walls, just money .. that holding a specific kind of saw makes you better at building .. that after a while crystal objects 'revert to seed' .. that getting more keyrings copies your keys .. that some inhabitants of RuneScape think there are no toilets, but other think there are (I've never seen one though) .. that inhabitants of RuneScape can see your skills without using lunar magics (how else would those guild-guards know whether they should allow you in?) .. that you don't get tired from fighting .. that smithing nails takes as long as smithing plate armour .. that dragon longswords and daggers are imported by fairies from some weird place, but maces and battle axes are available from 'the heroes guild' .. that those daggers seem to be better than those longswords, not in stats but in capability (dagger pwns longsword in duels) .. that most dragons don't actually drop anything 'dragon' .. but that they DO drop 'clue scrolls' .. that dragons exist in the first place .. and that if you wear armour made from their skin you suddenly become better at using ranged weapons as a side note: magic armour (mystic, splitbark, etc) is the only type of armour that cannot be made by players, armour for archers and warriors can easily be made though. Does this sound fair to you?
  11. The long route is completely safe but twice (or more) as long as the short route At level 65 RC Astral runes seem to be the most commonly crafted rune. For some reason, blood runes seem to be more common than soul runes.
  12. Also you can tamper with your cookie using inline javascript, but does it get counted? (doesn't the voting thing remember you in its database?) Good to know how voting works: tip.it/runescape/index.php?poll=vote&poll_id=[iD]&Answer=[ANSWER]&submit=Vote replace [iD] and [ANSWER] with the actual ID and ANSWER that you want to vote..
  13. I've refreshed the page about 7 times now, I can go to the result page but the poll showing on the right side near the ad is still the PKing one for me edit: pic: edit again: ok nvm it finally showed up.. voted yellow (seems to be the least popular though)
  14. ah where is the poll? I still see the last one (about PKing)
  15. Nice articles, but I do have a few things to say to the first person (Alloran24?) * F2p range is bad because fletching is p2p and thus the arrows are not worth the effort * If you only mine smith and fight anyway, p2p indeed doesn't offer much more * It would if you'd do more (minigames, herblore (potions really can be handy), better weapons -> more fun fighting otherwise too-hard monsters, etc) * Reasons for older gamers to stick around include (but are not limited to): *more mature players (if you find them) - many of my best friends on RuneScape are adults, and they're all p2p, at least partly because of the high number of kids in f2p *less begging - sure it happens but I've seen more of it in f2p *less crowded/more servers - don't you just get a headache of a chatscreen that just keeps scrolling? p2p has a number of quiter servers *more challenging quests/gameplay (bosses etc) *skills that are more linked to eachother (farming -> herblore, slayer -> herblore/farming (lots of seeds/herbs drops), etc) *more magic (f2p magic is not that powerful, not to mention the higher cost of the higher runes) *fun ways of training (various minigames that offer lots of xp such as trouble brewing and pest control) I'm really not trying to make anyone join p2p, but please do if you feel like it :D Anyway, I do not think that p2p is not worth it, nor is it expensive compared to other paid games (in fact, at 5 bucks a month it's not even expensive without comparing it to other games, unless you're a kid you probably give out more to other things - like food and electricity and heating)
  16. I play at 100% because otherwise I can't see the difference between a lot of things that differ only in colour (metals, herbs) quickly enough (not anymore, I used to be used to 75%) And btw, runescape is not textured (ok the sprites are), it is colour-shaded. Which is why the low-poly models look even more horrible than they would as just low-poly-textured-models *points at terrain* I used to play at 75% before I became member, but all those member dungeons made me try 100%, and I stuck with it because.. well why actually..? Interesting how most ppl play at bright settings, perhaps JaGEx should make a 125% notch? (oh and while they're at it, make the minimap load at your brightness setting immediately, instead of loading it in 75% and changing it to your setting the first time it changes)
  17. Is that even possible? Let's calculate.. You can get a maximum of 1/4 of the XP you get for att/def/str/range/magic as slayer XP. Well since there are 5 of them, that seems possible. But, there is HP, you get roughly 1.3 XP for every Slayer XP you get. There is no avoiding it unless you train slayer with the Tears of guthix - but that requires Slayer to be your lowest skill. (or rings of recoil, come to think of it. and of course quests and genie lamps) So it looks to be impossible, but.. You can keep Slayer as high as your HP (but not higher) with the Tears of Guthix (though that would be very hard it's theoretically possible..), that together with genie lamps just Might give you 99 Slayer at 98 HP (and most other skills at 98 as well, because otherwise the Tears would train them instead). Note that for the last level you cannot use the Tears, it will all have to be genie lamps and quest rewards etc. (or even using rings of recoil..) I highly doubt anyone in RuneScape has an untrimmed slayer cape though, it is hardly worth the enormous effort.
  18. I agree with the many people who have said that the cooking cape demands the least respect of all skill capes. Slayer and agility are my favourites, though obviously I have neither :( Not because of the emote, but because they are insanely hard ( as in "you'd probably give up before you're halfway" ) to get, unlike cooking, fletching, smithing, firemaking etc.. Imo, if you're wearing a cooking cape, you're just showing how much money wasted on a too common 99 (unless you fished yourself of course, but seeing as you can't see the difference..)
  19. The main page clearly states what "mastered" means ((You can do every action in it)) btw Attack (90), strength (88), defence (88), hitpoints (90), woodcutting (82), ranged (76) before the 2 newest prayer I used to master prayer as well (68) and before the agility shortcuts (yes they are new) I used to master agility (back then in the low 60's) In any case, I voted 5-9, as I should have. What would be the requirement for combat? "able to solo the highest boss" or something? (does my 110 count?) And how about questing? "able to do all quests"? (in that case I would master it as well)
  20. I believe that <13 means greater than 13... #-o you believe wrongly then <13 in this case means age<13, where age has the smallest end of the arrow so it means that Age is smaller than 13.
  21. I don't really like those collapseable things. I already have trouble finding things as it is.
  22. Some older players are just as bad though.. I started playing when I was 14, but I never begged, no really, not even when I got hacked (keylogged) 2 years ago (I was 15 then). You now know I'm 17 So technically I'm still a kid, but I figured out Mournings End part 2 alright, before the tip.it guide was out, though I admit it took me 2 days (for the whole quest), but that was mostly because I had to get new food every few minutes and because of that insane list (without the list it would only have taken 1 day). Once I got the hang of the puzzle it really wasn't all that hard. And the monkey madness puzzle.. come on people that is a really standard and easy puzzle. (I did Monkey Madness when RFD came out, same for Horror from the Deep) Lots of kids < 13 are annoying (go to varrock in a free world, IIRC it's where they gather) but you don't see the ones that aren't because they don't annoy you, you just walk past them without taking notice.
  23. I agree that a low level does not mean a young player (everyone starts as a level 3), but, how many level 100+ players act immature? Probably not as many as lower leveled players who do. Firstly, it takes time to get a combat level of more than 100, even with pc, so young players can grow up before they become level 100. Secondly, if you act immature you run a higher risk of being banned before you reach level 100, thus leaving the mature people (who can be of any age by the way, I do not mind a relatively mature pre-teen). Thirdly, everyone who is now level 100 is older than he or she was when he/she started as level 3, and probably more mature than when they started playing (unless you're truly ancient) Clearly, a players level is not an indicator of his maturity/age, but I think we can reasonably say that on average, higher leveled players tend to be older and more mature than younger leveled players. Oh and of course this only goes for main accounts, not pures and the like. edit: I'm currently level 110, and 17 years old. Some may say that 17 is young, but I'm starting at University this year so I should have been 18 8-)
  24. Did you know.. ..that rune claws are the only smithable weapon with a special attack? ..that if you get a slayer assignment of skeletons (not uncommon at burthorpe) you can kill the skeletons in the Barrows minigame or other high-lvl skeletons to get more experience? ..that the attack delay occurs after you swing your sword/shoot your arrow so if you change from a dragon halberd to a whip just after you hit with it you have to wait unnaturally long? ..that clicking "make all" for 2 potions is considerably slower than the old way of quickly clicking the 2 unfinished potions and the 2 second-ingredients? ..that you can speed up most actions with long animations by trying to do it again before it is finished? Adding coal to the heater of the blast furnace can be done almost 3 times as fast as usual this way, but the timing must be exactly right. ..that when you ride a mine-cart and you lag a bit whilst the new map is loading, the cart sometimes appears to go off the track? ..that the Chivalry drains your prayer less quickly than using 3 regular +15% boost prayers? ..that the Lunar spell "Spellbook Swap" (req: lvl 96 magic, Dream Mentor) is extremely good even though it is rarely used? You could cast both teleblock and ice barrage yourself using that spell, have access to all teleports, and that at the cost of only a few extra runes!
  25. Did you know that you can just walk through the door without using the ring on it? Might not work for all doors - but definitely works for some.
