  1. I personally wouldn't use a stress test made by the same company that manufactured my card. If my GeForce4 mysteriously scored off the charts, and it was an NVIDIA stress test, I wouldn't be surprise. Also, don't OC a videocard. It's not worth the reduced life expectancy, and it kills any warantee you might have had.
  2. If your motherboard came with a CD of drivers, use them. I know of a few people who had this same problem and it stemmed from them not using drivers. Make sure you have the newest version of Sun Java, and that you are using the Sun Java to play, and not the Microsoft VM. Also, install your video card drivers if you havn't. While it won't effect runescape, it will effect other things. For instance, if you don't have your drivers installed, and you try scrolling thru an I.E. page with mouse3, it will take AGES to do so.... oh, and theres no sense in having that card if you haven't installed the drivers :P But uh... this last paragraph isn't all that important. Pay attention to what I said in the begining.
  3. works fine here
  4. theres a program called videomach, and then theres another one, I think it is called videomach. If you don't like either of those, you could try this new one that just came out. It's called videomach. If its slow producing a video, try using different codecs. Better quality = takes longer, worse quality = faster to compile. It's not the program going slow, it's the codecs. No matter what program you use the codecs will still take forever, which has already been said. If you want it to go faster get a better comp. oh, and make sure your using codecs... and not using the uncompiled setting, which will take up like 40 gigs to make a 10 second movie =\
  5. I suggest using fire instead of smashing. It's more interesting.
  6. You have to save it as a .GIF or make it a shockwaveflash extension. I've only used photoshop to make these, but then again photoshop isn't free. I know there was a really cool program I use to have that was like 4 megs and was free and it rocked.... not sure if you can make .GIF's with gimp, you could try that. Try this, no clue what the program is but the name sounds promising. http://www.download.com/Artful-GIF-Anim ... ag=lst-0-9

This happens to a lot of people. Don't know why. It could be your CPU just not being able to keep up, your motherboard, old drives, not enough RAM. We really arn't sure. One person updated their windows media player and used that to play their music and said it stopped being glitchy. I would recommend clearing your Java cache just in good measure. Doubt it will do anything but theres no harm in trying. What kind of a sound card do you have? That's something we havn't been asking people and probably should have. I have an AC97 Sound card and I listen to music on Winamp (free) whilst playing RS just fine.
  8. He asked how to make his own.... First, pull up tastmanager via cntrl alt delete. Then when you've got what you want, click alt+print screen. (The print screen button is on the upper right of your keyboard near f12) Now, open up MSpaint, if you forgot where the link is, simply go start >> run >> and type 'mspaint' without the quotations of course. Once your in mspaint, click Edit, and then click paste. Then just save it, I recommend as a PNG also, you can use cntl + v to paste the picture instead of using edit >> paste.
  9. TV's have limited framerate and a limited resolution.
  10. Sup. K, unfortunetly I share a computer with my family who are all highly computer illiterate and enjoy filling it with spyware and virii day after day. Lately my connection has been timing out... wheneever I try to update my adaware definitions I get a "error connecting to server" and I've noticed connections on limewire timing out as well. I put it into safe-mode and scanned with adaware and mcaffee, (adaware says the definitions are as of 5-10-06, but I'm not too sure if it actually downloaded them) Anyway, have a looksee for yourself, I know this version of HJT is old, and I didn't shut everything down that I could of, but that's life. <3 Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 5:09:58 PM, on 10/5/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\services[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\Explorer[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\mcvsshld[Caution: Executable File] c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn[Caution: Executable File] c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\oasclnt[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Razer\Copperhead\razerhid[Caution: Executable File] c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect[Caution: Executable File] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield[Caution: Executable File] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Razer\Copperhead\razerofa[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr[Caution: Executable File] D:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire[Caution: Executable File] C:\Documents and Settings\Duenkel\Desktop\Davids Stuff\HijackThis[Caution: Executable File] R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie/def ... earch.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie/def ... .yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost O2 - BHO: Yahoo! 11. formatting your computer without the windows CD requires earth, wind, water, fire, and heart. When the powers combind you get captain planet. It's tricky, don't try it at home.

  13. DSL uses fiber optics now-a-days, no?
  14. if your going to... get... visual basic, you will also have to get all the newest msdn junk.
  15. DSL doesn't use phone lines. If your using a phone line, your using dialup... If your on dial up & your being disconnected, it could be a bad telephone line, or someone messing with the phones, I know I use to have a problem when I had 56k using the internet because the line was bad... I had a seperate line installed and I could get uptimes of nearly 2 weeks on a 56k connection (old bnet warring days, dont ask :P ) If your on DSL, it could be your ISP. Either your too far from their nearest server, or they are limiting your speed and/or bandwidth. Try releasing & renewing your IP once you start having troubles and see if that does anything.
  16. In other words, both. The file itself I guess you could say is physically on the hard drive. If the virus is active... as in its an executable file or dll injection, then it would also be in your RAM (or memory sticks as you said) As soon as you turn the computer off, the RAM gets cleared... so the file would then only be on the hard drive. As soon as you turn the computer back on though, the virus would be loaded back into the RAM. If you took the hard drive out and put a different one in, its not like the virus could infect you through your RAM if that's what you were getting at, though that would be a rediculous method to getting rid of a virus.

This is how lazy we've gotten at T&C :P What he means is: update your definitions for norton, then restart your computer. While it is booting up, hit f8 repeatedly until it asks how youd like to boot up. Select "safe mode" then scan with your anti virus and it should take care of it. Afterwards, restard your computer, download "Hijackthis" run it, save a log, and post it here so we can be sure your computer is clean. -sidenote- I think I am just going to bind some of these common things to a few macro keys, like the safe mode and what not speach we all give day after day :P
  18. Nah, because after it would try to boot from a CD, as soon as it realizes theres no CD in there to boot from, it moves on down the list... I.E. to your floppy drive(s) hard drive(s) or external drive(s) Er.... if you could access your files but couldnt boot from that HD, sounds like your windows files were currupt / missing... if the hard drive were busted, you wouldn't have been able to access any files on it at all. And yes, it is possible that his hard drive isn't spinning. In that case, putting in the windows cd will do nothing because it won't be able to recognize any drives to install windows on.
  19. thats all right, I somehow managed to... find... the full version.
  20. hmm... I don't mean to spam the topic, but are there limitations? Like since it's a free trial, are you not alloud to use certain features? For instance, customized buttons? Otherwise what would the point in buying the full program be. Hmm.... thanks for the info though, never knew that.
  21. Yes, I know this topic is rediculously old... but I have a reason for putting it back up top. Just as an update, I've let the laptop sit unpowered for... when was my last post like a month or so ago? Anyway, I managed to repair my windows. After that I toyed around a little on it... after about 45 minutes of playing it crashed again. Never the less, I booted up again the next day, got all the important files off of it and onto my main computer... it took almost 5 hours to transfer some small pictures and a couple text files (which goes to show something is definitly wrong with the way the HD is spining) but this time it didn't crash, just went reeeaaalllyyy slow. Anyway, I thought it was fairly humourous how random this thing is. Oh... and did I mention I am going to get my sisters old POS computer? She's getting a new one, the old one, while bad, can act as my new server box, woot. Guess I will turn the laptop into artwork or a table, lol.
  22. hehe, I beat you... but I think the newer versions of windows blinds are only 30 day trials? What version do you have? And yea, I ran into a few problems with the program but nothing major, overall I give it 9/10
  23. you can either manually play... right click your desktop >> properties >> appearance >> advanced. Or, you can download the free trial of windows blinds, which is a program that takes advantage of the windows XP theme system, basically making some really wicked looking skins. If you really like it, the trial is only 30 days, so you would have to buy it after that... but its worth it if your really into the concept of a personalized & customized computer.
  24. Yea, thats what I meant. He should have driver CD's. I don't know of any drivers that windows will get for you.... despite it having the option to connect to the internet and search for you, I have yet to ever "find" drivers this way. I have always had to use my mobo / sound card / videocard / mouse / wireless card / you-name-it CD or website.
  25. drivers...
